Another great Sam Reilly book! It's a stand alone but does give a lead in to the next book. I enjoyed the fact that there are a number of different story lines that are really all related. At times it might be a bit confusing as chapters touch on the different threads that all nicely tie together by the end of the book. One of Sam's father's ships has gotten stuck blocking the Suez Canal. This is costing the company millions per day as no ships can get thru. Sam and Tom head there to see what they can do to refloat the ship. As repairs are being made to the big ship Sam and Tom look into why the accident happened. What they find is it was no accident but sabotage. One thing leads to another as the threads come together. As work is underway to refloat the ship Sam is called away to help a friend. As it turns out the friend and the sabotage do have an important connection. Sam is not in time to save the life of his old friend but gains valuable info that helps put pieces together about what is going on that relates to the sabotage. Sam happens to meet a beautiful widow that needs help. In trying to solve the puzzle of his old friends murder Sam helps the widow. Together they find themselves in trouble with a human trafficking ring. This is one of those odd threads that does relate. So keep reading to find out how all of these threads connect, how Sam saves the day, and the next story background is setup.
Good tie-in with the Suez Canal crisis! I keep listening to your books because you keep the series relevant to current events and tie them into the past. When I began this journey, I thought you'd just mastered a formula and did it well. I was wrong.
Listened over winter break and into the new year. I enjoy the Sam Reilly books - although the author can get a bit repetitive in their description. I don't need to know a person is out of breath when you say they're running for their life. And then you tell me they're straining for breath, as if they were running for their life. I love the descriptions of the place settings and I found that I google where the events take place and the kernels of history that the author puts in the book. Absolutely fascinating. (Yes it's the same review for prior books, because it's true for all the books IMO.)
The Trident GS, owned by James Reilly, Sam's father, is sabotaged in the Suez Canal. Sam and Tom work with a team of experts to free it.
Sam heads to Chad to help a friend, but not in time to save him. But he does save Amira, who provides him with the information on the third Golem that will lead to a treasure of unbelievable wealth.
The book is entertaining with plenty of plot twists that make Sam Reilly series a fun, exciting read. I greatly enjoyed the book.
A ripping Sam Reilly yarn again from Christopher Cartwright.
Now what happens.??? How long do I have to wait to find out what happens next. I get really mad when I can,t put down a book only to find an abrupt ending that leaves the characters in limbo waiting to find out what happens next. Terrific characters , so well constructed but what a climax in limbo wondering where they will go next?
Sam is required to remove a ship wreck from the Suez Canal. The wrecked ship is huge and completely blocks the canal. It just happens to belong to his father. There are complications as to how and why the ship was damaged, and what it has to do with a very small six year old boy hunting relics in a pyramid. I do recommend this novel.
So many twists and turns. Globetrotting and fighting the bad guys. Loved all the different cultures and backgrounds. Just when you think the story is over another mystery. Loved it.
