A bit about me ...

I'm from Australia's Outback where we don't have running water, ride kangaroos to work, and still listen to the wireless each Friday for entertainment. I enjoy wrestling my pet crocodile, Brutus, and playing with my dingo when I'm not out hunting buffaloes and feral pigs while swigging moonshine.

Don't believe me ...

Alright, I enjoy telling stories and read all sub-genres of horror. I'm a big fan of Richard Laymon, may he Rest In Peace, and like nearly everyone else on the f**king planet I love good ol' Uncle Stevie.

If you let me ... I have plenty more stories up my sleeve ... but for now I'll toddle back to wrangle that stray buff out in my paddock.

David Longbottom is obscenely rich and handsome. He also arrogant, lacks empathy and is a total psychopath who can only get his kicks through extreme violence and sex. In short he’s the perfect character if you like your books fecked up and depraved. It doesn’t get any better than Musing’s of a Sadist.

In Musings of a Sadist, Ryder Kinlay introduces readers to the remarkable character of David Longbottom. Firstly, I need to say that Kinlay writes in such an easy-going fashion it’s like having an Australian friend whisper the story lovingly into your ear. This is a personable narrator telling a story that, in the hands of any other narrator, could likely be unpalatable.

David Longbottom is a flawed human being. Admittedly, he loves his mummy, but everyone and everything else in the world is there only to serve the needs of his sadistic desires. Musings of a Sadist is beautifully written and shows us the world through the eyes of a terrible human being, turning cruelty and ugliness into something genuinely beautiful. If you have a stomach for horrific and an appetite for cruelty, you’ll be in damned good company with David Longbottom and Ryder Kinlay.

What a fantastic collection! Ryder holds nothing back in this Longbottom collection. Each story gets better and better as we dive deep in to the world of a sadist. This is a brutal inside peek at what lays hidden behind the curtain. I highly recommend this book and Kinlay's previous work. Like a fine wine, Ryder improves with each new twisted tale of extreme writing and violence. One of my favorite authors! If you are reading this and loved this book, I highly recommend her book Rehab!

Grab your finest whiskey (it won’t be good enough for David!) and prepare for the ride!

I love this collection!

From start to finish it’s full of filth, violence and laughs. If you haven’t met David yet you really should change that, go grab yourself a copy and start your love hate relationship with Mr Longbottom.

OK, I'm going to do this review a little differently as I've already read the other 3 books in this series! I'll post my review for the final story first, and then I'll repost my other reviews underneath!!

Well, what can I say?????? 😂

This was hilarious, poor Todd Love for a start!! Then, I thought Ryder and I were friends, but I'm pretty sure now that she secretly hates me!! 😉 That was full throttle brutal (and that's just her description of my character, I have great tits I'll have you know!! 😂😂) Although I do get double teamed by Dakota and Longbottom, brutally, so very brutally!!
Seriously though, Ryder continues to deliver on the sheer arrogance of Longbottom, you will still hate that you love him, and love that you hate him! The humour, violence and overall greatness is highly evident in this latest installment! I love that we see more of Dakotas character in this one too! Brilliant!! Loved it!!

BLOODYMOON!
I was honoured to get an ARC of this book and...Woah!! Ryder can definitely do extreme horror!! With a very sexy opening, a gripping story, blood, pain and horror, and a great twist ending, I absolutely loved this book. It even had a good old cringe out loud moment!! Perfect!! I also loved the addition of the classical music in the background, it really added to the horrific atmosphere for me!
5 bloody great swords from me 🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡

THIS IS NOT AN EXIT....
This is the second Mr Longbottom book by Ryder Kinlay, and she just keeps getting better!!
In this one we learn more about Mr Longbottom himself, turns out he's a complete dick, no surprise there! But I kinda like him! 😂
Loved the dark humour and the reference to Hannibal Lecter, who I adore! 🖤
I also love the brutality in Ryders stories and the way she sneaks it in there, they start off quite "innocent" and then BAM!! Blood Splatter everywhere!! 🩸🩸
Keep 'em coming Ryder and I'll keep buying!!

5 tasty brains from me! 🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠

DIA DE LOS DEATH 💀....
This is the third book in the Longbottom series, and probably the best yet, we get more of a look in into Longbottoms character in this one. Damn,is he a guy you hate to love and love to hate!!!!
There are some hilarious descriptions in this book that had me laughing out loud!!
I love how Ryder builds up to her brilliantly brutal endings! You get totally suckered into thinking one thing, and then BAM, there's the brutality!!
Ryder Kinlay just keeps getting better and better, and I can't wait for the continuation of Longbottom!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Overall 10/5 Skulls From Me, It's Been A Fantastically Fun And Brutal Ride!! 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

**Review**

I had to reread David Longbottom’s shenanigans in MUSINGS OF A SADIST by Ryder Kinley. I read each installment as they came out but having them together, back to back to back to back, just added to the Longbottom experience.

Longbottom is a wannabe Patrick Bateman. He wants to bang his Mom, kill everyone who doesn’t meet his insane expectations, and he is taking his best friend Dakota along for the ride.

Just when you think David is growing a conscience, you find out it’s really just his penis. He has no redeeming qualities and has a rich/pretty boy complex. But he is funny and charming so that is his only kinda positive quality.

Kinley shines in this collection. She adds in some of our favorite people in indie horror as well as pop culture to make it relatable. Religion, Charlie Sheen, Rebel Wilson, nothing is off limits in Longbottom’s world. We are just background noise.

I can’t say enough about how much I love Longbottom and his adventures of just being him. A reread is just what Dr. Dakkie ordered.

I've read the other stories in the David Longbottom series and really enjoyed them. So imagine my surprise to see this collection WITH an extra never-before-seen short story. Naturally, I just had to buy it, and let me tell you something: if you love charming, dangerous, psychopathic assholes, this is the collection for you!

A series of well-written short stories taking a chilling look into an extremely narcissistic serial killer and his world view...or the view in his bathroom mirror. ;) Often darkly comical and extremely gory, this collection immerses you in depravity of the highest order. I needed to read something lighter afterward just to cleanse my palette.

Minor spoilers:

I loved the opening story and shock of the bride the most, with Davie's ever-increasing “fixation” with his mother being probably the sickest part of this collection. (But it certainly fit the character.) I would have liked to have seen more consequences for Davie, but then the rich do tend to skate through life, don't they?

I recommend this collection to those looking for a bit of blood-soaked psychotic fun.

If you'll excuse me, I've got a shower to take now. Great Job, Ryder!

Woah, if you thought Patrick Bateman was fucked up, David Longbottom says to hold his glass of some expensive liquor. The relationship David has with his mother makes my skin crawl. And his killings get worse and worse. David is a narcissistic, psychotic, sociopathic, monster. This story is depraved and awful in all the most entertaining ways. Read this within a day, my eyes could not be torn away. The author did an amazing job of making me love to hate, and hate that I love David Longbottom. Fantastic!

Meet playboy millionaire David Longbottom, connoisseur of luxury brands with a bit of a violent streak. Musings of a Sadist follows Longbottom through 4 short stories overflowing with dark humor and acts of cruel violence. David is a bit of a character, he has some odd tastes and a soft spot for mommy dearest. He’s a character that is larger than life, one that I can see becoming a horror icon like Patrick Bateman or Hannibal Lecter. You can’t help but feel charmed by his charismatic personality, even after watching him stop someone to death.

This collection is everything you could want and more when you read an extreme story. It feels almost like episodes of your favorite TV show, each story giving you different aspects of David’s life, introducing his family and friends into the cast, each of which are just as depraved as him. There’s a little something for everyone within these pages!

Musings of a Sadist is a wonderfully written and delightfully violent story of David Longbottom, a rich, sociopathic monster/ladies man who I so love to hate! His character is well drawn by the author and she keeps you entertained throughout with the tales of his romantic adventures which give a whole new meaning to "love em and leave em". I cannot wait to see what is next for David, Dakkie and his Mommie Dearest!

Well written but not my thing.

I was kind of expecting An American psycho kind of thing. This guy was worse. I really hated him. Enjoyed aspects of it. The writing. And it's Australian. Im not much on extreme horror. But i dont think that put me off too much here. Anyway im going to read Rehab next from this author Think ill Enjoy it more. I kinda relate to rehab more than male psychos. Oh wait. Nope had a few of them in my life. I should have had a knife.

Musings is the collection of Bloodymoon, TINAE, Dia De Los Death with a bonus story Hot Shots.

If you like Davie, don’t worry because this is not the end! He will be back. You can't get rid of him that easily!

This year there will be a four-novelette-series featuring Mummy Dearest, Davie, Dakota with the final one weaving a ll the stories together into a hopefully surprising climax.

Thank you for reading his pompous drivel, and I hope you enjoy Musings.

Stay tuned!

This collection of David Longbottom's stories takes you on all his mis-adventures. And includes the newest installment Hot Shots where dear Dakkie gets himself into quite the situation.
My favorite thing about this series is the author has created a character that is so repugnant, so whiny and depraved that you just can't help but love him.

Another fun installment of Longbottom!! I've loved the whole series! I can't wait for more!

As usual, Longbottom is an insufferable jerk. He's so seriously hateable and I just can't get enough. These stories are twisted, violent, sexual and loads of fun!

Musings of a Sadist by Ryder Kinlay is dark, gory, and disturbingly addictive. David Longbottom is a charismatic monster you’ll hate to love, and Kinlay paints his world of wealth and violence with sharp, bloody precision. Not for the faint of heart, but impossible to look away from.

If Patrick Bateman put some actual effort into being the bad guy, he might be able to reach Longbottom levels.
This story collection was everything I wanted and more. Ryder did an incredible job at making you hate Dave Longbottom; I mean, the character is a fresh view of how dark I wanted Bateman to go. The first story shows you an almost Grey esk story with a country girl getting a Cinderella tale. But a wild honeymoon in Thailand isn’t everything it seems. Dave is meticulous in covering his tracks, and with Mommy and Daddy’s money behind him, his butchery knows no limits, making him incredibly dangerous. Women to him are, as he says, a means to an end, condiments in his life. That holds no actual value to him or will ever hold a candle to the true love of his life; his mom, which is all kinds of Creepy as it adds an element of Norman Bates to the character. Unable to pull away from mommy’s apron strings, then you have the supporting cast or rather his entourage. Who are entirely submissive to his every need, making him an even more jacked up jackass that is so easy to hate. The relationships he partakes in and how he manipulates the women he courts to try to change them into his perfect woman. Like In Dia De Los Death and his grooming of poor ‘Mary.’ Where he is projecting onto her his sexually need for his mother, which is all kinds of wrong. But again, you can’t stop reading, but you’re doing to know how he will twist and destroy this woman. Dakota, his best friend, is just as sadist, if not equally as screwed up mentally as Longbottom. I think he has a little thing for Davie, which considering his charisma and intimidating stature, isn’t surprising why he submits so readily to Davie. Whatever Longbottom does, you can guarantee Daks won’t be far behind making a grizzly mess of his own. You get a sneaky peek at the bonus story, which by the way, is both mesmerising and revealing in its way. So if you want a book that packs a punch, this book will make you avoid Christian Grey wannabes forever.

Musings of a Sadist (David Longbottom's Misadventures) collects the first four stories Kinlay's written about our favorite Australian Patrick Bateman impersonator. Kinlay successfully crafts something that feels less like a collection of separate stories but serves as more of a sequence of vignettes about Longbottom's life over a specific period. There is an assortment of self-referential moments throughout the included misadventures, reminding readers that each installment is sequentially consistent.
Naturally, this begins with Longbottom's Thailand honeymoon from the story that introduced us to this depraved maniac, Bloodymoon. I've already reviewed this story, so I'll refer you to the following link if you want to see what I had to say:
https://meltdownmessiah.com/2021/08/0...
We move on to an installment that is of personal interest to me, as Ryder Kinlay incorporated a character named after me in the debauchery and cruelty taking place. Again, I've reviewed This Is Not An Exit previously, and you can find my thoughts at the following link:
https://meltdownmessiah.com/2021/09/1...
Next up, we have Dia De Los Death, wherein David feels like he might have finally found a woman he can love, and we learn just how perverse his devotion to his mother happens to be. I've reviewed this story previously at the following link:
https://meltdownmessiah.com/2021/10/2...
And finally, we come to Hot Shots, the newest Longbottom tale and one exclusive to this volume. When David's best friend, Dakota, calls him in a panic, seeking assistance because he's in an apartment with a dead man he'd only recently been intimate with, Longbottom resigns himself to helping out. Readers have the distinct pleasure of learning new facts about biology and the biological functions that can transpire post-mortem, so it's educational. Of course, the excitement doesn't stop there, and everything turns out splendidly for Dakota and David as they jump into a bonding experience and set the stage for future misadventures.

“Roll your eyes, but I honestly don’t give a flying fuck about you or your boring - and probably debt-riddled life. That’s why you’re here, right? To escape from your sorrowful lives and enjoy some Longbottom loving? It’s all about me. It always has been.”

You know what?
This protagonist truly, to the bottom of his rotted soul, is the literal definition of giving no fucks; and it’s pretty damn glorious.
Think Norman Bates, crossed with Bruce Wayne and Hannibal Lector…
Now picture this mashup, “Twirling and dancing, stamping in pools of blood like a child in a rainstorm puddle” - that is the one and only, Davie Longbottom.

This is Freudian fueled, acid trip of an homage to American Psycho.
I could hear the characters voices in my head as I was reading, with their myriad idiosyncrasies and tones shining through… owing to the indulgent and highly-stylized prose, which had all the Chandler Morrison vibes.

“Now, learn from the master. This is how we end the story. Watch and weep. “

Love love love it!

If extreme horror and gore is not your thing, turn back now. Give up on this book, it's not for you. If you are like me however, and can't get enough of the gore and depravity, then pull up a comfy chair, grab a bevvie or two, and get ready for a great time. Ryder Kinlay does not skimp on the "good stuff" with this book, and I think if Patrick Bateman read it, he'd love it. Maybe. Or maybe he would say "but what were they WEARING?" For myself, though, I couldn't care less about the characters' designer clothes and was incredibly glad for the fact that although that stuff was described well enough for me to get a clear picture, it was not obsessively detailed. Personally I prefer for the "good stuff" to take center stage, which it absolutely does in this book. I can't wait to read Ryder Kinlay's other book, Rehab, just as soon as I get a chance.

The "protagonist" of this story, as it were, is so mind-numbingly unoriginal that I almost added this to my DNF shelf. I struggled with even writing this review as I KNOW the point of the stories is that he is an unlikeable character, he is an exemplary amalgamation of every well-to-do, "I'm owed the world" psycho killer that's ever been presented in media beforehand but notched up to the nth degree. That being said, I still struggled so so much to read through this guy's POV -- even with all the sex, he still screamed "INCEL" to me for some reason and I found myself with very little patience for his antics and what he had to say.

When I read the first instalment, I realised the author had something here and was delighted when I heard there would be plenty more to come. I enjoy my extremes short and brutal, and that's exactly what is given here... but all together! Happy Days!

Longbottom is a character you love to hate. He's arrogant, a narcissist, rich, and no empathy whatsoever. Think Patrick Bateman and you're nearly there, because Longbottom ran right by him to reach the finish line first.

So, if you like your torture books with a little spice, then pick up a copy of this 'bloody' meal.
