After stowing away on the famous pirate's ship, Caspian eventually earns a place amongst the crew of the Chained Maiden. But soon finds himself falling- not just for the sea and the freedom- but for the sharpshooter named Hraefn. After a deadly ambush, Jack reveals a plan he's kept from his crew. Find the ship of legends; the one which controls the sea, the one that Jack promised to someone from his past. But first, they need to hunt down the missing pieces of the map, and they aren't the only ones looking.
Battling sirens, raging seas, and a growing love for Hraefn, Caspian finds himself in the fight of his life with his newfound family. But not every story has a happy ending, and not all pirates get their treasure.

So much fun! I was a lucky person to get an ARC and I loved my time with From these Raging Seas.

Here’s what I liked:
Found family
Pirates 🏴‍☠️
Romance
Multiple POVs
Adventure
Brittany’s writing style

Dislikes:
This is not a complaint I make often but it was too darn short. The author could have played with and dived into soooo much. But it is a series so we will get more…..Hopefully soon 🤞🏽
No Ace POV - would love to be in his head

Content note: mild swearing and violence, no sexual context

I loved this book! It is one of the most well written books by a newer author I've read. (I only found 3 or 4 typos or weird sentences in the whole book! Lol) But really, good world building, good character development, and real human situations. Trying not to spoil anything, I cared enough about the characters that I had feelings when ~things~ happened to them, both good and bad. I rooted for developing relationships and was hurt at deaths and betrayals. It's a different world, but doesn't rely heavily on the fact, which I enjoyed. It just was what it was, and so were the relationships. There were a few moments that I thought "oh yeah, this is a forced YA moment" because it was so innocent, it was awkward, but overall, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I read it all in a day! It was left in not a gutted-and-throw-the-kindle-across-the-room-because-the-next-book-isnt-out cliffhanger, but in a smile-and-can't-WAIT-for-the-next-one. Read it! I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Thank you so much Brittany Czarnecki for allowing me to read and review this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

From These Raging Seas is an adventurous story with a wild ride of emotions. There are a few points of view to follow and each one is written with a distinctive voice. I love being able to tell which character view I'm reading from and not get the feeling that they are blending into one.

I love the character development and the world-building is exciting and intriguing. I adore all of the characters and how different they are from each other. Hraefn is a favorite and I enjoyed reading about Tsu and Skye.

Czarnecki's writing is imaginative, creative, and always improving.

I'm curious about the sequel and I look forward to the next adventure.

I guess March is the month of pirates because I’ve only been reading books set on the sea, including From These Raging Seas! Brittany has done something really fun with this book and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read it early!

We’ve got a multi-POV story (4), some good queer rep, a mute FMC, PLUS an action packed sailing adventure full of highs takes shenanigans. Let’s get into it.

First off, the characters: I really enjoyed them. Captain Jack is what the series is named after. He’s a pirate on the hunt for pieces of a map leading to a long lost ship from a pirate long ago, one said to be faster than any other and might have some kind of magic related to the sea? Who knows, it’s a legend. He does have someone trialing along behind his escapades, and he best watch out lest this other pirate come for his loot.

Hrafen, probably my favorite of the lot. He’s my favorite type of guy: he’s a sharpshooter, he’s got a sense of humor and a bit of an attitude, he’s gay and he’s got a tragic backstory. Also he’s dreamy. I really enjoyed his POV throughout the book. His dilemma over having feelings for the newest crew mate, his moodiness over being back in his home town and his fear of a rival sharpshooter who has his sights on Hrafen all lead to a really dynamic character. 10/10 will love for a long time.

Caspian, said new crew member, our resident bisexual king. He’s trying to escape the demeaning life his family put him in and so escapes on the deck of a famous pirate, off to have adventures. Caspian goes through a lot of self discovery in this book, including one of his own sexuality. He’s not shy about admitting he cares about people (*cough Hrafen cough*) or showing he’s angry or joyful. He’s just a bundle of courage and eagerness. I thought Brittany did a good job of showing his struggles and overcoming them.

Tsu my silent queen of death. We all love a silent assassin and she might just be the top of the list. Wicked fast with a blade but unable to speak due to an injury from many years ago, she can still sign to others on board and with one hell of a sarcastic beat.

The story itself is daring. The last few chapters I could not put down there was so much happening! Throughout the book we find the crew traveling to different locations in search of missing pieces of the map, some with steep payments that affect more than just the captain. There’s epic ship fights, deals to be made, laughter to be had and tears to be shed.

Do keep in mind this is a Brittany Czarnecki book so there may be some character death. Keep that in mind. Love characters but BEWARE. She loves offing them. 😂 overall a really quick read. It’s one you can pick up and finish in an afternoon and leave it aching for the next in the series! I can’t wait for it! From These Raging Seas is a queer, NA pirate adventure hitting the shelves this spring!

Such a great start to an exciting series! Each character has a story and I absolutely love multi-POV so this was a treat since i dont see it done too often. Each character is written so well with such personality and history that shapes them into who they are at this moment in the story.

If you want action and tension....step right up. I will be eagerly awaiting book 2 and jumping back into the Blackboune series.

**ARC REVIEW**

So I’m just gonna start this by saying WOW….so I’m pretty sure this is the first book I’ve read that is in the pirate genre, but it was oh soo good!

I love how diverse the characters are and how deeply developed (all their backstories) Brittany has made them. Each of them is like their own little nautical snowflake and the more you read about them, the more there is to them. I especially loved my tsundere Hraefn…😈

The world building for FTRS is not lengthy at all but is well written and unique. You can even pull some aspects from varying real cultures that I suspect helped her shape this world. I really do think that’s pretty neat and kinda grounding.

The story itself is a fast paced, action packed adventure that I’m so glad I didn’t miss! There’s some foreshadowing in there that some may spot and others (like myself) completely overlooked and so the plot twist was shocking! Literally never saw it coming and I was all for it! Ate that s**t up!

Overall, highly recommend and cannot wait for more in the series!

TW: violence, gore(?), somewhat manipulation, mental and physical trauma

Tropes: slow burn, found family, treasure, power seeking, LGBTQ+

From These Raging Seas had me hooked from the beginning! I knew I would love Hraefn right away! He's the tortured soul who pushes people away, but you have to love him! (Hello, Rhysand and Darrow vibes.) I love multiple POV writing, and really loved the back and forth between Caspian and Hraefn as they decided what their feelings were.

I love Brittany Czarnecki's work, so I was prepared to have my heart broken. However, I was NOT prepared for how it happened in this book. She kept me surprised and wanting more. I was so impressed with how well-written the fantasy parts are. It felt like just the right amount! I want to know more of the character's secrets! Will Madame Kiera be back?! This is my first time reading a pirate novel, and I love how much I got to learn about the crew members from their own perspectives. Tsu.... Well, just read it. She's amazing. I know there is so much more coming in this series, and I'm ready for all of it! This was sword-slashing, cannon-firing, ale-drinking amazing, with a beautifully frustrating love story!

Thank you, Brittany, for letting me be an ARC reader for this absolutely amazing book.

Even though my heart is literally shattered from that ending.

Easily one of my favorite reads of 2023 so far and it's making me want to binge some pirate fantasies. This is honestly the first one I've read and it's SO good. I also just ki d of want to boars a pirate ship and sail the Seas 😅

I love all the characters so much. Well... maybe not a certain arrogant person... 😭

Honestly though... this book deserves a million stars and I am not so patiently waiting for the second. The writing is flawless and I always feel like I'm a character deep in the story when I read Brittany's books.

Just get your tissues ready when you read...

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review* ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

If you enjoy YA fantasy, character driven plots, multiple POV, pirate adventures, new friendships, the found family trope, secrets, betrayal, and romance, then you will enjoy From These Raging Seas!

It is a quick read that sucks you in from the first few chapters, and keeps you hooked until the very end. The book has an incredible cast of characters that I fell in love with (…and got my heart broken over when certain events happen). All the characters have a lot of depth to them. I can’t wait to see how they continue to grow, change, and develop. I found the world itself to be well-developed. I felt like I was transported into the world throughout the whole book. I am going to enjoy getting more acquainted with this world in the rest of the series.

The book overall gave me such Six of Crows/Pirates of the Caribbean/Fable/Namesake vibes, and I was totally here for it. I’ve been trying to find a cast of characters that I enjoy just as much as the Crows and I might’ve found that in Captain Jack’s crew!

I really loved this book, and definitely recommend reading it!

I was delighted to be given an ARC of this book.
High stakes pirates with lots of great representation, including LGBTQ+ and a character who speaks sign language.
This story had me hooked from the very beginning with its incredible plot, endearing characters, and pleasing writing. I devoured it as quickly as possible and I’m left wanting much much more of this story.
Every character’s story and how it shaped their personality and motives was very well thought out. There was the perfect amount of mystery, action, longing/pining, and twists and turns.
Similar vibes to Six of Crows. I would recommend this to anyone that’s a fan of fantasy.

ARC review~

First off I wanna say major thanks to Brittany Czarnecki for sending me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review! I knew I was going to love this book from the moment Brittany started talking about it on her insta page so maybe this review is bias but who cares, I absolutely loved this book!!

The book has been described by many other reviews as “Six of Crows meets Pirates of the Caribbean” and I’m here to tell you it cannot be more true!! I absolutely loved the WIDE spectrum of characters, plus their histories and development. Tho I must admit, Captain Jack seems to be my fav <3

Without spoiling much all I can say is this book is the perfect mix of world building, complex characters and SO MANY EMOTIONS written in that unique style I’ve come to love from Brittany Czarnecki. The moment I put it down all I could think about was needing the next one!! Instant 5 star read!

I don't even know what to write because you really got me crying at 1:30am, I literally used a whole thing of blue stickynotes while sobbing.

I haven't read a book this fast in a while, I got so hooked and couldn't put it down.

Every character is so lovable, I can't hate a single one (other than Deadeye and Blacktip, respectfully). I can't even hate Ace, I love him dearly, but also, I feel so betrayed at the same time. I knew he was acting suspicious for a long while, but to kill Tsu is absolutely devastating. I am desperate to know more about what's going on. There's absolutely no way he didn't care about his crew. I don't think he could lie and fake it through everything, I think he had a lot of genuine moments with them all. There's no way he didn't see them as family at one point or another and if I'm wrong, catch me crying next book.

I'm never going to get over Tsu's death and Jack's reaction. I literally loved their dynamic so much. Speaking of which, Skye???? What a horrendous way to go what the fuck. Everyone literally started dropping like flies. Ugh, I'm so upset. This book is so fricken good and so fucking sad.

I love found family trope so much, I think it's nice to see a captain care so dearly of his crew rather than seeing them as expendable. Pirates and found family are just too good.

I crave to see more of Nitelocke in the future, preferably not dead. He had such little time but I loved every scene of his.

Hraefn and Caspian literally just needed to have one full conversation to realize every frusterating misunderstanding between them. I both love them and want to strangle the two of them everytime they fight over saving each other etc etc.

Again I loved this book so much, I can't wait to cry to the next one.

This book was so good! It’s the best combination of pirates of the Caribbean and Six of Crows action.
The plot was amazing! It kept me guessing what will happen next and kept me on my toes.

The pacing was really well done. There weren’t any part of the book where I felt that the story was rushed or was too slow and boring. It was literally perfect.

The characters in this book are so so incredibly detailed and although going into this i wasn’t sure about the multiple point of views, I was pleasantly surprised and pleased that I loved it. They all offered a lot more detail and backstory and character development throughout the book and gave us more details on the characters past, their thoughts and feelings and their part in the story and I have to applaud Brittany for this because she did it masterfully!

I felt all the emotions of all the characters and the bond that each of them has to another and it was such a stunning story! I can’t wait to see where the next book in the series takes us.

Also
Jack deserved better.
A solid 5 star read from me. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

*I received an e-arc from the author for review. Thank you! All thoughts are my own*

This was my first book by local author, Brittany Czarnecki. I came across her first series in Barnes & Noble and quickly connected with her on social media. I was surprised by how much I loved this book! If you like fantasy, pirates, adventures on the high seas, romance, and the found family trope, then I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s told from multiple perspectives, as well as including flashbacks, and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story.

Caspian is an eighteen-year-old from one of the wealthiest families in the Sunken City. He’s always lived in the shadow of his five brothers and always felt like he didn’t fit in. After the death of his mother, he has a falling out with his father and brothers, and decides he needs a change in his life. After the infamous Captain Keelhaul Jack comes to town, Caspian sees his opportunity. He stows away on Captain Jack’s ship, The Chained Maiden.

After Caspian is discovered as a stowaway, he works hard and eventually earns a place amongst the crew. He finds himself enjoying the freedom and life at sea and soon begins falling for the ship’s sharpshooter Hraefn (Ray-fin). After the ship is involved in a deadly ambush, Captain Jack reveals that he is in search of a ship of legends, a secret he had previously kept from the crew. The ship of legends controls the sea, and it also has something to do with a promise Jack made in the past. In order to find the mysterious ship, they need to hunt down the pieces of the map, and they aren’t the only ones searching.

Caspian finds himself in a fight for his life, while battling pirates, sirens and the raging seas. Who will survive, and will they find the treasure?

This book has an amazing cast of characters, and I can see why other readers are comparing it to Six of Crows, Fable, and even Pirates of the Caribbean. I quickly fell for each and every one of them as they are an amazing squad. I think that Caspian, Hraefn, Jack and Tsu are my absolute favorites though! Just be prepared to have your heart ripped out and put back together while reading this gem, as Brittany doesn’t exactly go easy on us.

From These Raging Seas will have a cover reveal soon and it is set to publish this spring of 2023. I hope that you’ll check it out, as I highly recommend it! I am certainly excited to continue this series as well as read other works from this author.

I am one of the lucky ones who have received an ARC - many thanks to the author - and let me tell you that it was a wonderful, fast-paced adventure like a raging sea (see what I did there).

When it comes to multiple POV writing, all the characters have their distinct personalities, which the author, in my opinion, mastered very well. It is a character-driven book with high stakes and I am rooting for each of them, which can be heartbreaking too. I cried over betrayal and deaths....damn it still makes me so sad, but what a read.
BONUS: A lot of great representation (i.e. LGBTQ+) and a character who speaks sign language, which is AWESOME.

The world-building and magic make me hungry for more. Knowing the author as I have also read her "Blackbourne Series" (House Blackbourne Forever)* I am sure we will see more of this. The book is shortish BUT knowing the author....well...this is more than a pirate fantasy read, it is about Found Family, pirates, romance, slow burn connections, adventure, and more. So, get ready!

*I need to redo all my reviews for the series because my previous account was hacked.*

TWs include physical and mental trauma, violence, and somewhat gore (implications)

** I received an eARC for an honest review **

In From These Raging Seas, we step away from the Blackbourne series to a world of pirates. It’s refreshing to step away into a different world. I always admire how Brittany creates well thought out worlds that draw you in.

FTRS is YA story with pirates and lgbtq+ representation. Caspian and Hraefn were a charming duo. They were coming into their own, and exploring their sexuality through each other. The emotions are there, but they recognize their youth and how that may affect their relationship. I love what was done with them in the end.

They’re not defined by their feelings, which I really enjoyed. I’d love to read a story that features them when they’re older.

The story itself reads as a coming of age story for the main pair. For the other main pov, not so much as he is an adult that deals with loss and has a ship to manage. Jack has a lot of layers to him that I found interesting.

The relationships built throughout grew organically, and were a joy to read. The adventure itself was a lot of fun. It reminded me a lot of old school pirate novels that draw you into the sea, and get you invested in the world of pirates.

Overall, it’s a great read in the YA category. If I could change something, it would be that I’d like more of these characters. Before I knew it, I was finished with the book! It feels like we were only scratching the surface, and would love more in the future.

Strap yourself to somethin' lads because this is gonna be a bumpy ride! What a whirlwind! This book is intense from start to finish, filled with epic pirate battle scenes, deceit and sexual attention that'll make your toes curl. Reading the fight scenes in this book had me dodging punches like they were right in front of me. With queer and disabled representation set along with some of the most surprising fight scenes I've ever read, I had so much fun exploring the high seas with Captain Jack and his crew. And with a huge cliffhanger at the end, I am itching to have the rest of the story. Expect the unexpected!!

A very interesting read, and one of which I’m looking forward to continuing in the coming sequel. I loved the layout of every chapter being in the perspective of another character. Especially in the battle scenes where we get to see what one person was doing and thinking whilst the previous narrator was somewhere else. My one gripe with it would probably be the fact that Caspian lived after being shot in the head with a bullet. I won’t get into the details. That sentence alone implies everything I could say.
I did enjoy it and look forward to seeing the story, and the romance, continue. I sure as hell hope that Tsu didn’t actually die though because how dare the most interesting character in the book be killed off without even the slightest warning. You can’t have one guy be shot in the head without a single bit of brain damage, and then let the most vigilant and skilled assassin of the crew get killed off in a single moment.

I love Blackbourne series by same author, so naturally I jumped right in when I got a chance to receive an ARC and review FTRS - and I was not disappointed.

I always love Brittany's prose and writing style. It's easy to read even with multiple POVs, and I love how each characters have depth. Betrayal is a common theme in pirate books, but I enjoyed all the romance and angsts and friendships that comes with it too. Hraefn and Tsu are my current fav characters from this series, followed closely by Caspian and Captain Jack.

Looking forward the next book in Kellhaul Jack series!

Captain Jack has procured a crew of incredible members of differing strengths and talents but there may be a traitor in their midst and with a rival captain showing up at every pivotal moment - how many of his crew will still be standing from this field? And will he find the treasure? Newest crew mate Caspian also must struggle through feelings he’s never been allowed to feel before and prove his worth to be on the crew after he stowed himself away on the ship.

A fun pirate adventure with loads of characters and intrigue plus heart and grief

I received this book from the author as an ARC when one of her videos came across my FYP on TikTok.
To say that I enjoyed it would be an understatement. I haven't read pirate stories in a couple years but I am beyond glad I gave this one a try. It was sweet and exciting and has a double agent I wanted to strangle when my suspension was confirmed.
I cannot wait for book two and though I have a virtual copy of this one now I will be investing in a physical copy asap to add to my shelves.
Great way to start out the new year!

I freaking loved this book. It was like a trip down memory lane in the best possible way climbing aboard a pirate ship and going on the BEST adventures. I love the characters - words cannot express how much I want Tsu to step on me. And how much I want to shoot the sh*t with Ace. There was snark and romance and betrayal and GAH I just want to put on my POTC playlist and read it over and over again. Highly recommend if you like fun, fast paced YA adventure books. And Found Family cuz yeeeaaahhhh boooiii we got that in spades and I can never have enough of that sweet sweet trope. This book made me so freaking happy I am running out of words. Goodbye reality I’m headed back into From These Raging Seas

I may be a little biased as I’ve known the author for about 20 years but this is a good pirate adventure story with interesting characters. It’s the first in her new series and I liked her first fantasy series too. This isn’t my typical genre so I appreciate her writing in a way to make it accessible to all readers - although I did have to google how to say Hraefn properly! Great work Brit!

My daughter, the author, has opened my eyes to fantasy books. Another very well written book and as much as I know my daughter and her twisted mind….she always throws something out that you can’t see coming. I love/ hate that about her style. You come to know these characters in the book and something happens you don’t expect. Bravo Britt!

*** I received an ARC for this book for an honest review***

Swash-buckling action! Queer representation! A captain that is the darker version of Jack Sparrow that I didn't know I needed in my life! This book has it all. Not only does this book contain all the pirate action, slang, and setting that I wanted, it was filled with beautiful characters and relationships. This book hooked me from the first sentence and introduction of Captain Jack, and kept me hooked as we explored more characters and points of view.

Each character was thought out and their trauma individual. They all ended up on Captain Jack's ship for a reason and while not everyone's story could be explored in the first book. Those such as Tsu, Caspian, Hraefn, and the captain himself were all done wonderfully. I cannot wait for the second book now.

The pacing of this book was well done. Not too fast so it's hard to keep up, but fast enough so that we don't get bored in between the action. I loved the character interactions and how each of the different perspectives was identifiable. Be cautioned however, that this book does jump back and forth between past and present so be sure to look for this while reading.

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this book from the author. I am most definitely the target audience. This book had my heart racing from the start, and I only hope I can convey my sheer delight in this review.

From These Raging Seas is the first pirate-themed book I’ve read for a good few years, but I felt like a kid again as soon as I began, following the crew into battle and adventure. That said, I wasn’t ready for just how much I would enjoy it. I loved the atmosphere throughout the novel. Intriguing questions are raised immediately. Some are still left unanswered, and others gave rise to more curiosity. There are so many pieces to this story. I can’t wait to collect all of them, and, at the same time, I’ll be sad to see this journey end.

The tension in this book is insane–My heart has never been in my throat only to plummet to my stomach and rise back up again to repeat the process so many times in one book! The growing relationship between Hraefn and Caspian frustrated me in the best way, a perfect balance of bittersweet and genuine romance.

The sudden, and often shocking, action scenes had me gasping in disbelief.

The author gives us a wonderful variation of POV. You’re able to really dive deep into each character’s thoughts and feelings. As such, I was 100% invested in what was going on throughout the book.

The world-building was very well-thought-out. The author’s attention to detail is the silk bow that wraps all the individual elements into a beautiful gift, that readers everywhere will open and enjoy.

The communication between the crewmates, both verbal and non-verbal, is masterful. Not a word wasted. The tone and pace are fluid throughout. I was never bored, never tempted to skip on or over any scene.

I love Captain Jack’s complex character. Upholding a reputation he doesn’t necessarily approve of, but is a part of him. He finds ways to appease his conscience along the way. He displays restraint, even in situations where he could probably get away with killing someone without consequence.

Though they all have their quirks and reasons to like them, it’s no secret who my favourite character is. Hraefn captured my heart from the get-go.

I struggle to really enjoy female characters, but Tsu I loved from the moment she made herself known on board. Her introduction was, for me, sheer perfection *chef’s kiss* Most of the female characters have an air of mystery about them that I sincerely hope I get to revisit in Book 2.

The plot was familiar in the sense of what you’d expect for the genre, and yet the author gives it a unique spin. A delightfully fun queer pirate novel I’ll definitely be reading again!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it! *****
