Well... It's been a minute since I read me some erotica... #ImAGoodGirl #YeahRightImReallyNot
and who better than Roe Horvat to... let's say... reintroduce me to the genre.
See, I'm a sucker for Roe's filthy writing... add this to non-shifter omega-verse AND... #StickAForkInMeImDone
Let's start with what I loved!
- THE SEX.
I mean... erotica? so yeah. It was hot as Hell... with all the knotting, hole licking, nipple sucking... You get my drift. It was hot with a capital H. #PantiesNotOnlyWentPoofTheyActuallyMelted
- NO WOMEN
I just love alternate realities where women are not even part of the world building for many reasons. First, no homophobia, second.. no chance of bitchy females trying to get between my MCs, third... no chance of surprise MF sex in my MM romance. #KThanxBye.
- The Characters
Zana was actually a great alpha, loved Navis, though insta, with his whole heart, encouraged him to follow his dreams, was there for him through thick and thin... He was a good husband... with a big c*ck #WholePackage
Navid was sweet but had a spine too. I love that Roe didn't go with the whole "Damsel In Distress" route for the omega. #MoreThanTheEyeCanSee
THE SEX
Oh I said that already... #MovingOn
Now for the niggles:
- The Formatting: we are reading part of the book and then BAM! The next sentence is happening later in time...days or weeks later, with no space or clue that time has passed. It was jarring to say the least.
- I know that is basically PWP, but there were some things that weren't given as much importance as they should have. Navis and Zana's parents, Zana's work. Navis studies... it was all swept under the rug.
- The bonus chapter.... I mean it was like the author just wanted to throw more angst for the sake of it... 23 YEARS LATER... and we get a Zana who has tuned into another man, who has neglected Navid, and who has an epiphany in a matter of minutes. It really didn't make sense at all.
- It was sometime too sappy, the endearments were just a little too much, and Zana asking Navid how he was feeling got tedious and got on my nerves a bit because #LessIsMore
So.. in conclusion:
I read it and I didn't skim
It was hot.
It was sappy, sometimes a little too much.
It was sweet.
It needed a bit more polish and tightening up, a little more depth.. It would have been a 4-4.5 star read for me.
