There's Been An Accident

Rate this book
From the bestselling author of the Call Me Tuesday series comes a suspenseful, thought-provoking reminder of our intrinsic connection to one another and the devastating impact our choices can have on the lives of those around us.

Addison Quinn was nine when her parents were killed in the worst car crash ever recorded in the sleepy town of Driftwood, Indiana. She alone survived to tell the police about a mysterious blood splatter she'd seen on the outside of the windshield seconds before she was thrown from the vehicle. Addison was convinced the splatter caused her dad to lose control of the car, but because no evidence was found to support her claim, an investigation concluded the accident resulted from a slippery road.

Thirteen years later, guarded by her beloved dog Hero, Addison lives reclusively in Driftwood with her grandmother. When she meets Zane Isaac, the town's charming new veterinarian, she makes room in her inner circle for one more. As her romance with Zane blossoms, so does Addison. But beneath the surface of her newfound joy, a shocking secret about the wreck—thirteen years buried—is clawing for the light. And once the truth emerges, it will be as destructive as the wreck itself.

I struggled to finish it.

The story started out interesting enough but quickly turned to being predictable. I fell like I was reading something that was more like a junior high conversion than a book. I found myself being able to skim many pages without missing anything relevant to the story.

I enjoyed this book very much. There's Been An Accident by Leigh Byrne. The story was interesting and the characters were well written. I am recommending it to those who like a good mystery and to those who might like to get into mysteries.

Ok I started out hating this book. It was soooo slow in the beginning. It was just depressing. It tells the story of a girl and her grandmother who only had each other. Then it switches to a guy that had no one. There wasn’t really a “I have to keep reading” point in the beginning. The chapters were so long they just seemed to drag. I don’t mind a long chapter if there’s something happening. But then finally, at about 32% there was a point where I was interested in the story and the book was finally enjoyable. I wouldn’t say this book has great twists. It just ended up being a good story. It’s not a thriller, like I think it was supposed to be. It’s really a love story. If I had known that, I would’ve gone in to the book a little differently. Honestly the story itself is 4 stars, but it just took way to long to get to the point.

Ok I picked this up long ago and read the first few pages, but then put it down because it was on my kindle and I’m a book on hand kind of girl sometimes. Glad I went back because it ended up being a great story. I only gave this 4/5 stars because I wanted more from the ending. Byrne is a great author, the book was easy to read and follow. It made you feel all the feels. Enjoy!

The plot isn’t awful; the “drippiness” is SO awful

We have a tragedy, which the author explains thoroughly, and years of aftermath. Some of the explanations are sufficient, some even detailed and psychologically sound.
The whole thing starts to unravel when one character, a seemingly very upstanding woman, lies about an incident, tells her kids to lie-and they bring that lie into adulthood. Even when the author tries to make it seem as if the character doesn’t know what he did, really-I mean, come on. He’s had how many years to ponder it? If it had stuck with him at all, if there was an ounce of true guilt, he would’ve known what he’d done. That he didn’t realize who the new patient’s owner was was the beginning of the end for me. Totally unrealistic. We hear over and over again later that the patient looked just like one he’d had..it’s just too silly to not assume he’d at least guess what was up.
Characters’ speech patterns were pretty unnatural, overly formal. Kind of sophomoric, and obvious (sometimes a lazy method authors use to introduce facts or feelings-yawn).
Easy read, with no solid pleasure or thinking involved.

Review: I literally randomly added this book to my TBR after just seeing it pop up on Amazon when I was looking for thriller books. I have never seen it posted on bookstagram, so this book is now in my ✨ precious gems ✨ box.

I throughly enjoyed this book. It is definitely a YA thriller but that’s okay. I was not expecting the plot to go the way that it did, but those are always the best types of books. I also feel like because there were two tragic car accidents, one 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 Addison and one 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 to Zane… I am wondering if the person Zane lost, was also a person Addison lost 🤔

This book was easy to read, the chapters were medium long. I cried a handful of times because there were sweet closed door romance situations that were just SWEET. I also cried because of the tragedies that Addison and Zane both were smacked with, especially when they were younger.

An Accident on Thanksgiving Day !

This is a story of an accident that took place on a Holiday killing both,Addison's parents in a burning car.
The little nine yr.old girl was thrown clear, but suffered with many scars & horrendous guilt, thinking she might have caused the wreck,by causing her dads eyes to leave the road.
Nothing was farther from the truth.
Addison,lived with her grandmother & her dog,Hero.
Other than her good friend Millie, that she met in grade school, she was very reclusive.
Yrs.later, when she had spent a most miserable childhood, graduated from Business College,Addison finally met the man who had seen the wreck, that killed her parents.
He along with his twin brother, were riding their bikes, that fateful day. They were only thirteen. They knew a few things about the accident, that had never been told.

2.5 stars. I really thought I’d like this book more than I did.

I got the impression that this book would be a mystery/thriller romance but really it was just a romance. all of the mystery builds up to nothing because the big revelation is so heavily foreshadowed early on. addison and zane are insufferable.

there are some glimpses into excellent writing but this book reads like the author wasn’t sure what genre she wanted to write.

there were spelling/punctuation errors but I did not factor that in to my rating.

The story was fairly well-written. However, the actual story, or plot line, left a lot to be desired. Many of the "twists" were incredibly predictable and somewhat unrealistic.

I appreciated the characters, as most were believable and well built. The town of Driftwood was also described quite well and gave the authentic small town feel.

I've read and loved other novels by Leigh Byrne, but this one was a disappointment. 2.5 stars.

Loved the book, could not put it down. Engaging story, Great characters. My only critique and this is my own selfishness, because I got invested, I wanted an Epilogue or a page saying story will continue. I just wanted more, again my fault for getting attached & falling in love with the characters, I didn't want it to end. Which just means the Author did a Fantastic & Amazing Job. Truthfully she reminded me of Iris Johansson in the way she brought the characters to life, the Eve Duncan series is my all time favorite series. Just a Fabulous Book, Highly Recommend you will Not be disappointed 5+ Stars.

I had been waiting for another book from this author and she didn't disappoint. I connected with the characters right away feeling as if I knew them on a personal level. There were some unexpected twists that made things even more interesting. The author's writing style is creative but easy to follow at the same time. I hope she is already working on her next book.

Great book, easy read. I liked how everything came full circle, although I did end the book wishing I knew more about what happened to Zane’s father. It seemed crazy how Zane’s father and Addison’s parents both died in a car accident, I wondered for a second if it was too coincidental and they were related!

awww a puppy

This was a good story that had a lot going on. I enjoyed the fact that they bonded over a puppy and an old dog. Everything tied up in the end but it also left some room to wonder by.

A tragic accident leads to a puppy being a hero, a young girl finding her strength to become a survivor. A chance meeting leads to answers that took years to come out and of course a few surprises. A book that will grab you and keep your attention till the end.

loved it

Loved the characters and the story however I didn’t think the secrets should have been secrets. I think the mother over reacted but it’s the story and I did enjoy it. Had a nice flow to it which are it an easy read and difficult to put down.
