Ironwood #4

Luna Cursed

Rate this book
Ciara Wolf Slayer is the one Ironwood that all wolves fear. When a deranged cult decides to awaken Fenris to start Ragnarök, Ciara must put aside her vicious past and work with the one wolf strong enough to take them down.

‘Luna Cursed’ is book four of the new spin-off series in the best-selling 'Fae Universe,' featuring everyone's favorite supernatural hunting family, the Ironwoods.

Ciara would rather die than go to a wolf shifter for help, but when she finds herself bitten and bleeding out, her instincts send her straight to Tor, the one man she knows will keep her safe.

Tor has done everything in his power to forget that Ciara exists. She's off limits in the worst possible way, especially when every member of his pack fears her or wants to fight her. Knowing that isn't enough to stop him from binding the Wolf Slayer to him to save her life, even if he has to spend the next fortnight guarding her every move.

Ciara and Tor strike an uneasy bargain. They will work as partners to hunt their enemies until the full moon and then go their separate ways. Unfortunately, there's no planning for destiny, and they will learn that you can't fight Fate, no matter how much you want to.

Please note, 'Luna Cursed' is an adult paranormal romance that contains graphic violence, swearing, and sex scenes.

When Alessa Thorn writes yet another brilliant female character like Ciara Ironwood aka The Wolf Slayer, and then has Torsten Skarison, a Viking werewolf shifter (or Úlfhéðnar) tend to her life threatening wounds, I knew I was done for. I’ve had a soft spot for Tor, since he walked onto the page in Heart of The Winter Prince, and every book in this series since. I didn’t stand a chance against this glorious tattooed, blonde, long haired Viking, that just happens to be one of Odin’s wolf berserkers. He’s hilarious, very alpha dominate, but secretly a cuddly teddy bear. And he’s met his match with Ciara! I always identify with Thorn’s FMC’s, sometimes it’s just their sense of humor, or nerdy habits. But I really connected with Ciara’s own alpha personality, her need for independence and control, and her fiery temper. ⚔️

I love the emphasis of Norse mythology, and how the last few books have come to the precipice of preventing Ragnarok (or the end of the world.) The way she’s woven Odin lore, light & dark elves, and even a Tolkien reference or two, into her characters and plot, had me smirking and laughing the entire time.

Without spoiling anything my favorite tropes in this book have to be: Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, only one bed, I hate you but get in my bed NOW, ridiculous pet names in their native language, touch him and I’ll kill you, a Holmgang (battle/duel to the death), a sexy chase in the forest 👀, and a shirtless Viking chopping firewood… Because who doesn’t love that?!?

This was bittersweet, since it’s the last book in the Ironwood spin-off series… but I’m hoping for a few other stand-alone’s. I need more of the Greatdrakes, and she can’t leave us hanging with THAT ending!🐺

"Keep calling me names, and I'm going to fall in love with you.”

Well, the Ironwoods have come to a close (kind of) and I have so many feelings after finishing Luna Cursed.

I already knew how much I’d love Tor and Ciara. Their past tension, dislike of each other and banter was a fantastic build up to their story. And what a story it was! Romance, tension, banter, legend, adventure, family.

This series has given me more than I can explain. I’ve found myself in each of the Ironwood women. I’ve swooned over elves, wolves, magicians and death daddies. The magical world showed me so many sides to some of our favourite mythical beings. I’m so sad to be leaving this family. It has, very much, become my own.

I cannot wait to see how Alessa continues to expand this world.

If you haven’t read these books yet, please do. Start with the Fae Princes and then into Ironwood. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

"You want to run from us? From me? Do you know what will happen when I catch you? The same thing as last time you tried to push my patience. Do it. Run. I fucking dare you."

Tor saves Ciara’s life by creating a bond between them. But now they have no choice but to stick together until the next full moon. In the mean time, they want to make sure Ragnarok doesn’t happen.

I love Tor. He gives me best friend, protective, teddy bear vibes. He is a bad ass and he is sexy as hell but he just seems so easy to be around. I knew as soon as she introduced him four or five books ago, that he was meant for the Wolf Slayer.

Ciara is tough on the outside but soft on the inside. She definitely has her reasons for disliking the wolves. But she doesn’t let it cloud her thoughts or feelings when it comes to Tor. I love how possessive she can be with him.

The heat was good and the plot was really interesting. I did prefer some of the other stories just because of preference. Some of them were a little more interesting to me. I also wish the ending happened a little differently. I won’t reveal anything major but I was kind of hoping for something else. But again, these are just minor issues I had. I still overall loved this book.

I’m sad to see the end of the Ironwoods but I’m excited to see where Alessa is going next in this universe. She is amazing at writing different tropes with different characters. I’m looking forward to the next series.

I love Ciara and Tor! I was already curious about them by reading the previous books and couldn't wait to get to know them better.

Ciara and Tor's banter was a DELIGHT. Ciara is a fierce character, that has always stood up for herself and is VERY independent. It was good to see her find her match on Tor, a delicious alpha, who despite being very possessive of her, has always given her the space she needed to figure things out. I love him more for how thoughtful and respectful he was about her feelings.

Don't even let me start with the primal kink present in this book. It was magnificent.

That being said, the romance and the spice were great, but being the final installment of the series, I was expecting a little more action in the final battle and all. It was a little underwhelming the way things turned out and I was also expecting more cameos of other characters since this book was supposed to be the last of the series. Also, I felt like everything was rushed toward the end.

But overall, it was a fun, sexy reading and I enjoyed this book and the series a lot!

Absolutely loved this book just like all the others in this series. Action, adventure, spice, family and friends. Overcoming internal and external demons so to speak. The pace and formula is just right to keep you coming back for more until you finish the book.

I liked it. It was better than book three by far. Tor was the best thing about book three so I was ready for his book.

Now Ciara annoyed me a bit. Not surprising considering it seems all of this author's heroines have. The difference is unlike Layla, I did like Ciara. She had every reason to be resistant to catching feelings and possibly mating with Tor.

Sure, the push/pull from Ciara was damn well frustrating and I sure didn't find it as cute as Tor did. But I really liked them together. They made sense and I just adored Tor. 😍

He was still the best thing about the entire book besides another appearance by Arawan.

I will say as much I as I enjoyed this series I find the "mold" the author used for each of the Ironwood heroines to be tiresome. It's perfectly human to have insecurities or doubts about yourself or being in a relationship. However, I felt like with each heroine it became too repetitive for each one to have certain hangups about growing attachments for someone. Honestly the Ironwood head honcho Kenna sounded like a cunt tbh if the way she raised them with whatever tough love she deemed necessary to make them independent badass hunters caused them to have such deep issues later in life. Like, geez y'all. I kept thinking why do y'all not see her as a problem here? 🤔🙄

I also found the idea that Tor could just bite Ciara and she becomes a wolf within minutes (because he was an alpha) a little too farfetched for me. Being a big fan of paranormal and wolf shifters romance I've read a lot of different versions with different creative liberties taken by the authors. So the idea of being bitten by a wolf turning them into one was fine but the idea that it could happen so quickly and painlessly seemed a bit of a reach. Didn't fit for me with all I know of wolves in the paranormal sense. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway! I enjoyed it. I enjoyed 3 out of the 4 books of the series and I call that a win.

Wolf Slayer ♡

I'm not usually a fan of books written in third person POV and I probably should have started with one of the first books rather than the last to get the background stories of all the side characters but it was easy enough to figure it all out.
I really loved Tor i mean who wouldn't love a Viking God wolf shifting alpha am i right? And Ciara loved watching her crumble for him lol

Ciara Ironwood known as the Wolf Slayer to many was fearless in her hunts until one night she became the hunted leaving her fighting for her life after she's bitten and in her moment of weakness she goes to the one person she probably shouldn't. Tor a wolf shifter and Alpha. When she passes out he's left with little options but to form a bond between them to keep her alive, something she will 99.9% not be happy about if she survives but Tor is left with little choice but with the full moon looming they'll have to stick close together until they know if Ciara will shift or not, something that terrifies her.
Tor promises to help her in her hunt to find Vag and stop him before he manages to do the unthinkable and free Fenrir from his resting place. When Tor finds out his missing sister is the reason Ciara was hunting Vag to begin with he'll stop at nothing to find her. The more time Tor and Ciara spend together the harder it is for them to fight the chemistry between and deny the inevitable ending the path is leading them to. Tor is upfront with his feelings for Ciara but it's she who will have to overcome the fact that she's falling for the same creature who stole her parents at a young age but Tor is nothing like the monster who killed her parents and hopefully she comes to that conclusion before it's too late.

"Or what? You'll run?" Tor smiled, showing way too many teeth. "Please do, kanin."

It’s official, Alessa Thorn cannot write a bad book. Luna Cursed was everything I expected and more. First of all, I’ll admit it, of all fantasy creatures, if I have to choose, I’ll almost always be team wolf. There is something about a hairy hot gigantic male that growls and snarls that makes my toes curl 😮‍💨 Bonus points if he chases me in the forest and calls me 𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯 (IYKYK 🫠)

Tor and Ciara make the perfect pair. Their tension is out of this world. The story is great and super entertaining, I couldn’t put my Kindle down. I’m sad to say goodbye to the Ironwood family, but I can’t wait to see what Alessa has in store for the following books in this universe!

𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲:

🐺 Chasing (and oh boy… you don’t know it yet… but believe me, you like it 😉)

This gets one more star only because I liked Tor and Ciara. But the dialogue drives me nuts and wish this was drawn out more, I think that could have won me over.

Two Alpha personalities colliding in a shower of sparks. Oh and don't forget some sexy banter and heat along the way as Ciara and Thor chase down the last of the villains linger after the 3 Generals were vanquished.

I love how all of Alessa Thorn's FMCs are badass, weapon-wielding women with sassy attitudes but a soft underbelly that they show to the men who are worthy of them. The men are also nothing to sneeze at. Every one of them are strong, Alpha types who adore their women and never step over the line or try to take advantage.

This was an enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend reading The Ironwood series first before reading this one. Many of the characters from the previous books ( and even from the Fae Universe series) make an appearance.
Was it the best book in the series? I don't think so but I was happy that most ends have been tied up.

This book was very good. I have to admit that by now I was getting a little annoyed with the fated mates situation, so it's great to have a story where a bond was formed to save her, but she had a proper choice. Sure, the other characters actively chose to mate, but it sometimes feels a bit forced. So it was nice to have a change.

The plot is getting better by the book. I love how it has expanded to a wider universe, and we are getting more than the basic mythical creatures involved. I am also really intrigued about what the coming books will hold . . . The girl didn't want to disrupt Fenris, but it looks like there may be a book about their love story coming out soon. I am very excited.

So overall, this book was great. It was your basic plotline, but you fall in love with the characters on the way, so I really have nothing to complain about.

She’s a cousin to the famous Ironwood hunters, books 1-3 were about each of them finding their mates and this book was her turn.

She’s a wolf hunter after they killed her parents when she was little she devoted herself to putting down any rabid wolf that the packs never took care of themselves.

After working alongside an alpha wolf in the book before with her cousin and hearing how his sister was kidnapped by a bad wolf she went out alone to try to find her. She was attacked and ended up on the alphas doorstep after being bitten and he bonds with her to save her life.

Of course the entire book is about them trying to get his sister and stop the bad wolfs. They love each other but she’s fighting it…

It’s a very predictable book, each one of these books are almost the exact same

After fighting it they finally mate and live happily ever after

I NEED MORE!

I have absolutely adored this series and hope there's a follow-up (possibly the Greatdrakes family?). There was so much that was unexpected, just when I thought I'd figured out how everything would unfold. Glorious plotlines, expert writing. The bedroom scenes have gotten hotter along the way, and this last book did not disappoint!

I will say that the editing got more lax as the series went on, with more and more instances in which I had to backtrack and mentally rewrite sentences with the correct words and punctuation to figure out what was going on, but I've certainly read worse, and it wasn't enough to detract from my enjoyment of the book or my need to know the outcome. I won't say "ending" because this had what seemed like the biggest cliffhanger of the series. I honestly don't know if that's only because there isn't a sequel to immediately satiate me since I did just binge the entire series in one go.

Highly recommend!

As usual, loved this book by Alessa!!! I related so much to Ciara and her insecurities… and also to Tor for his! I love the building relationship between them and the tension!!!!!!! The tension people!!!! Damn these two have chemistry!!!! And can we talk about that epilogue? No?? Ok fine 🤐🤫 anyway… Alessa’s writing is easy to read and you always feel like you’re part of the story, which is amazing!!! So obviously, definitely recommend!!! Do start with the first book in the Fae Universe though!!!

4.5 Stars!

This was one of my most liked books of this series, along with Imogen & Arawan's story, but it ended like there were more stories to tell. Something was going on between Lachlan & Apollo that needs to be explained. And in the epilogue, Tor's sister has somehow (and without any knowledge or intent), woken Fenris from his sleep, and they both seem to be drawn to each other.

I hope this author has plans to write at least these two tales, as well as the rest of the Greatdrake brothers' stories. I wouldn't mind Valentine meeting his match, either!

Luna Cursed is an ABSOLUTE favorite! Tor and Ciara have been introduced in previous books in the series and there is a slow burn lead up to this book and it definitely delivered in the romance department. I love that their book delves into their past, their connection and healing. Ciara has a hardcore shell with a protective, loving center that is just written perfectly. Tor is an alpha male, but doesn't dominate Ciara; he lets her grow and come to him on her own terms. Their story is just *chefs kiss* perfectly written.

Devour this Book

Is Alessa Thorn my most devoured author of 2022? Yes. Will I buy her books for life? Yes.

Please read her books, the character development, the lore, the spice of it all is literally the best in the business. As much as I want to say more you’ll just have to read it for yourself.

Note: I knew that Ciara would be one of my top Ironwoods after reading Bron’s story now I’m happy to say she’s in the top ranks.

2.25/5

Obviously having read the prior books I knew what to expect from this, but to be honest I think this book had the worst writing of them all. The plot was boring and the dialogue was so cringe-worthy at times it actually hurt to read.

I did not go in to this book expecting a literary master piece, but I can confidently say that this novel was not on par with the previous books and so I was left disappointed.

Good read

I always enjoy Alessa Thorn books. I would highly recommend her books. However, I wish that she would not put so much detailed description into the sex scenes. But if that’s what you love then it won’t bother you. Her books are filled with a lot of actions that she doesn’t need all those sex scenes. I found myself skipping pages. But she is still a good author.

Omg Alessa definitely saved the best for last, this book was everything I wanted and needed, plus more, the banter, chemistry, the push and pull, Clara and Tor have it all, I couldn’t put this book down.
How can it work between the famed Wolf Slayer and the famous Wolf Shifter, do they hate each other or is that a front to disguise the chemistry and connection they share, watching them fight each other and for their lives is something to behold. I can’t believe this ending!!

What’s not to love about Viking werewolves, Norse folklore, Fenrir, the wild hunt and a small glimpse of Arawan.

As always with this Fae universe, I absolutely loved it. Tor & Ciara are so good together and I absolutely ate their chemistry up. I also devoured the Viking/norse theme, I couldn’t get enough and I’m definitely needing more about the wild hunt and what’s gonna happen next with Fenrir.

Alessa Thorn: “A slow burn romance? Not on my watch!”

This was more of a 3.5 for me but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m still in a trauma state from reading The Savage Lands or if I just didn’t connect with these guys as much.

That being said- this whole series had no business being as good as it was. I can’t wait to see where she takes
the next inevitable spin off.

What do you get when you have a badass FMC with the literal nickname Wolf Slayer and the most lovable Viking wolf-shifter with a dash of Alessa Thorn’s specular command of story telling with Spice and banter?

You get this amazing book.

I have said it a thousand times and will say it again, Alessa Thorn is an instant read for me. I’ve loved this world she has built and I never want it to end.

The last book of the Ironwood series, and it was an absolutely banging one! It was so wholesome and vulnerable and lovely, I loved it so much!! Plus, all the cameos by the other Ironwood siblings were so cool!!

And the epilogue aaagh 😭 the author has promised a Fenris book in the future, it's gonna be so lovely!
