I just landed my dream job as an editor at the esteemed publisher, Astra Books, and my client is the infamous sci-fi writer Derek Hamilton. The greatest writer of our generation--in my opinion.
But it's not as wonderful as I thought it would be. I can't get this guy to respond to my emails, texts, or phone calls.
Whenever I get him on the phone, he's a jerk that hangs up on me. He's a pain in the you-know-where. Yes, he's gorgeous...but he makes my life a living hell.
When I corner him at his penthouse, I discover that he hasn't submitted his manuscript because he's too busy with his day job...as an aeronautical engineer.
The guy owns his own company building rockets and other innovations. He's also a professor of engineering at NYU.
Of course he doesn't have time to write his next book...with a schedule like that.
But I have to get him to write this book otherwise I'm going to lose my job.
Now I just have to figure out how to do that...

I’d like to take a moment and applaud the author.

description

Yeah, I had the same face as JLo when reading this book. I was regretting spending my money while I was debating setting my kindle on fire or throwing it away. Ok so like I was saying let’s applaud the author for not only ruining a sweet little boy character but also turning him into the most awful, despicable asshole I’ve ever read. I thought his father was a dick but this asshole takes the cake. He makes his father look like a saint and that’s saying something because his father started as a dick.

It’s like the author read my mind, like she knew I needed to read about the sex with OW was amazing, passionate and how he kept going back because he enjoyed it. He should have just started a relationship with the OW if he felt that way in fact it shows he has more chemistry with Fleur than with the pathetic heroine. Now everything else will fail in comparison with the heroine. Why would I believe the sex that he’ll have with the heroine is special or something that he hasn’t had ever when he says things like this about his fuck buddy? He’s nothing like his father. His father never said anything like this about OWs in fact his father said sex with his heroine was better and special for him.

There’s no detailed sex scene with OW in the book. He enjoyed bareback sex with her, the douche bag didn’t want to wear anything. So I’m 100% sure know what’s coming, surprise baby with the OW or a std but since this author so far has shown predictability then surprise pregnancy it is. 🙄

“Fleur was stunning, and her French accent was a turn on. When we were together, it was fucking cosmic. The sex was amazing. I kept coming back over and over because it was addictive. It was emotional and passionate, and it didn’t make sense to pick up another woman when the sex would be disappointing in comparison.

“I already knew what was going to happen before it did.
She walked up to me and slapped me across the cheek.
I turned back to her, pissed off that she’d touched me that way, but also aroused by the insane chemistry we shared. It was up one moment, down the next, unpredictable. We were all over the damn place.”

“I was back to where I didn’t want to be, screwing a woman I despised. Every time I tried to end it, she pushed me down and got on top of me, rode me so good that I forgot why I wanted to get away from her. Last time, she begged me to fuck her in the ass—and I couldn’t say no to that.”

“He was a gorgeous man, so of course, he was a playboy screwing the most gorgeous woman I’d ever seen. She clearly wanted more than that, but he’d never given her a commitment. Guys like him never did. That poor woman was wasting her time.”

“Derek has ruined me for all the other men.. and I hadn’t even slept with him.

At this point he had seen her on a date with OM, so he starts fantasizing about her and writing a story about them doing the naked tango instead of talking like any grown adult he goes to a bar and picks a woman up, takes her to his apartment and proceeds to fuck her brains out. Meanwhile the heroine is doing some fantasizing of her own and she also starts writing her fantasies she then goes to his apartment to leave her fantasies pages and sees the girl barely clothed so leaves feeling heartbroken and betrayed.

Do I still need to write safety at this point?

Recap about all 5 books:

-His father was also a dick and ho like him. Although his father stopped once he started noticing his heroine. (I think, not remembering well here)
-His father ex was a crazy abusive bitch, he also has a crazy abusive ex.
-In the eyes of both heroines women are catty bimbos and whores.
-His mother worked as his father’s assistant.. dun dun dun... the heroine is also his assistant.
-His father had hook ups and his heroine had to see them in his apartment.. Again this hero hook ups are there to be seen by his heroine.
-Who wants to bet that there will be a surprise pregnancy? Whether is from his crazy ex or heroine since this hero likes to have bareback sex with anyone but doesn’t want kids. At least that’s what was only thing different in this book from his father’s, his father did not want to have another kid so he protected himself with the OWs but not with his heroine. His heroine became pregnant.

NO PUEDO CON ESTE LIBRO. NO.

VAMOS A VER:

So Derek Hamilton is 100 per cent hotter than his daddy! What I thought would be weird because we met and grew with him from ages five to six, didn't seem to be a problem at all! I don't even remember the little boy who built model rockets because the man who teaches, innovates and writes is one fine specimen!

Derek Hamilton is now 30 and has gone through a couple of emotional traumas. Least of which is Valerie's abandonment. I was looking forward to some Valerie drama but it seems that won't be possible going forward.

I assume Fleur - she's French - will take the place of Valerie in Emerson's life. It all seems a bit predictable. Something that despite the pace of this series, it has never been. We will see how this one turns out but I already have it pegged.

Emerson, though sometimes seeming like a replica of Cleo, is more outspoken, confident and mouthy. It will be interesting to see how she changes throughout this series. I hope not too much because I love that scrappy attitude of hers.

As per usual with this series, we leaned heavily on the day to day tasks as Emerson takes a more personal dive into Derek's life. So once again, the main characters have yet to even share heavy panting. I don't mind though because what they are doing now is equal parts entertaining and arousing. Even if I could do with a little fewer lines from their unpublished porno.

It's good to see Cleo and Deacon in their fifties. Catching up with them but not getting too involved. After all, we did just read four books about their precarious relationship.

Unfortunately, we saw nothing of Daisy and Dex. Maybe they will show up later.

I didn't want to put this one down. Think I checked the percentage once because I didn't want it to end. I hope this level of interest keeps to the end.

We wrapped up the story of Deacon and Cleo and it was wonderful to see how their complicated story turned out. They got their happily ever after, which meant that we knew there was more on the docket for Derek, Deacon’s oldest son, and the boy who we grew to love in the first few books. We’re introduced now to Derek when he’s fresh out of college, and on the eve of his own wedding.

As you can imagine, knowing that life until now things weren’t smooth, this wedding couldn’t go off without a hitch. Derek is so in love with Tabitha that we think that the biggest complexities will come once they are married and trying to build a life together, yet we never get to see that happen because Derek overhears a conversation between Tabitha and his best friend Kevin, talking about an affair that they had together that lasted for at least a month. Derek’s heart is broken, and we have a great view at the downfall of the man that he could have been.

We’re now about 10 years into the future, where Derek has made a name for himself working at NASA on rockets, developing technology that betters several different industries. He’s a professor at NYU and he’s an accomplished author. The challenge though is that he’s put up all the walls that would allow someone close enough to care about, someone that would give him a reason to be the man that he could be.

Enter Emerson- exactly what Derek needs but won’t admit. Emerson has just landed a job as an editor at the publishing house that Derek’s signed to, and of course, when Derek has put all else as priority before the book that he was due to finish a year ago, she’s after him like you wouldn’t believe. She makes contact after contact with Derek in the hopes of getting somewhere and yet she fails. When she manages a small win, her life quickly changes.

Her success at making Derek see that he has to do ‘something’ catches Cleo’s eye, and we quickly see Emerson’s role change in this story. She goes from being an editor to being a personal assistant, doing for Derek what Cleo did for Deacon. Make this strong and authoritative, powerful, sexy man realize that he needs someone to care for him for more than his money. To make his life easier, and at the same time, we know from the success that Deacon and Cleo had, to have Derek and Emerson realize what they’re each missing in a partner.

Emerson slowly breaks through the walls that are up in Derek’s life – showing him that by allowing someone to help with a few tasks here and there, that he can find time to do the things that he loves. By allowing Emerson to help unclutter his life, he’s able to open up the side of his brain that’s creative, that’s more human and that’s the side that everyone loves.

Derek realizes that there’s something about Emerson that wakes him up – his creative side sure, but his passion and his need for something not quite so empty. There’s a challenge though because they are in a boss / employee situation, and neither has really opened the door for anything more between each other.

We watch Deacon and Cleo push Derek to be open to a future with someone that can love him and in return love her – and yet he’s still not open to that. His traumas from the past with his mom, failed marriage attempt and even challenges with his profession in the past have made for a man who’s not willing to ease up because he needs the control. We’re left at a point in this story where he says he’ll consider being more open, yet we know that’s not going to happen quite so easily. It’ll be interesting to see what Emerson has to do in order to get Derek to open up, yet we also know that she sees him for the persona that he puts out there and perhaps there’s really no opportunity anyway. So….i’m off to the next book because I can’t wait to see how this plays out

Wow Derek and Emerson😃

What a huge change in personality!!! Sweet, sweet Derek, is now a brooding, hot, sexy, thirty year old. My how time has change! When I read the beginning of the story about what Tabitha and Kevin, did to him. My heart broke along with his. But ten years later and he turned into his dad, Deacon when Cleo, fist met him, and Derek was only five. Throughout the entire book I was waiting for sweet little Derek to show his face. Emerson his assistant is a carbon copy of Cleo. And I think that Cleo saw herself in her that's why she hired her for Derek. It was like reliving Deacon and Cleo's, story all over again except it's with Derek and Emerson. I love their sexual attraction towards one another, it's hot! The was that Emerson stood up for Derek, when his fuckbuddy Fleur slapped him, was priceless. Fleur reminds me of Derek psycho mother Valerie. They have the same temperament. They never did say how Valerie died...?!!! The hot Porno fantasy that Derek wrote about Emerson was totally off the chain🔥🔥🔥☄😁. I cannot wait for them to combust together 😍. Looking forward to the next book.

This book through me for a loop right away. We didn’t get the sweet and attentive Derek like we got in the other books. This Derek is very similar to his dad as in he’s closed off and shuts everyone out! He refuses to let anyone help him because he’s para kid someone will sell his information. We learn that Derek has been through a lot and that is why he is the way he is. Cleo senses that his editor is someone who will be beneficial to him and hires her to be his personal assistant. Emerson is Dave’s with roadblock and roadblock by Derek. They go through a rough time and she was going to quit till Derek realized he screwed up and fixes it. I love how Emerson is always putting Derek in his place and doesn’t put up with his sh*t. I felt bad for Emerson at the end bc she is starting to get feelings for him and she walks in and another woman is there. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this story plays out.

Where did sweet little Derek go? He is just as intense and closed off like his father. I wasn’t expecting that truthfully. But then some of his past is revealed and then you understand why he is closed off. He has so many jobs he’s trying to juggle. He is supposed to write a book but he has no time. His editor, Emerson, won’t let up though and forces herself into his home to get answers. He reluctantly agrees to start writing with her guidance. Cleo senses that Emerson will be very beneficial to Derek and hires her to be his personal assistant. As one can guess, Derek is not easy to work with or get along with. But Emerson is patient and little by little she breaks his shell. It’s fun to watch their developing relationship. I can’t wait for The Boy Who Has No Hope.

I will be honest, it took me some time to be able to read this after the first four books because I just could not envision sweet little Derek as a man. However, I finally got in the right frame of mind and loved it! There were are so many similarities between Deacon and Cleo’s story, but still enough differences to keep your interest peaked for Derek and Emerson.

Derek is a total jerk, but Emerson recognizes there is so much more to him and gives him the time he needs to show his true personality, heart, and intelligence. Not only do they become best friends and trust each other, but the sexual chemistry that exists between them is so hot!

I cannot wait to see what happens next, hoping that their relationship progresses even further. ❤️

I wasn't sure I could make the leap from child Derek to man Derek but it only took a quick minute to make the transition. This book gives us a look at what Derek has become and accomplished in his life. He is like his father in the relationship arena and it is his mother Cleo that pushes him into a working relationship with Emerson. What follows is at times painful to watch as they try to work together and get to know each other. Needless to say Victoria Quinn has the ability and talent to make this book all consuming! So happy she is continuing the series with Derek and Emerson story! Ready for the next one!!

Omg, I didn’t think I could be so hooked so quickly. This continues with Derek as a grown man and how he is juggling his life job and everything else, but he is not managing and is so unorganized. His mum Cleo comes to the rescue and appoints his editor as his new assistant. Emerson is like a breath of fresh air. Like she is a younger version of Cleo.
I absolutely love this dynamic between Emerson and Derek. Will anything happen between them. Will Derek past haunt him forever?
This is a must read. I read it in 1 sitting. Couldn’t put it down and now having to wait for the next installment is like torture.

I wasn't sure how this book would be as it was going from the parents to the son. However, it captured my heart and attention right away. I was floored to see just how much Derek struggled like his father. Emerson was beautiful not just in looks but in her heart and spirit. These two are like oil and water. Neither willing to give in. This story had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know what would happen next. Both their pasts making them into what they are now. A must read book. I can not wait to see where their story leads me! I just know it is going to be a fantastic journey with these two.

Well another wonderful read in the Soulless series! Derek needs to open up and stop acting like he doesn't want to truly be with someone! And Emerson should just tell Derek how she feels about him! Can't wait to see how this story plays out.
I wish I had the writing ability and the imagination that these author's have. I just don't right now, I suppose. I also don't have anyone to bounce ideas or dialogue off of like these wonderful author's do. They sure do come up with wonderful stories! Some times I wonder where they get their ideas and inspiration from?
If you haven't read any of Victoria's books, then you are missing out! Start reading!!!!! lol

There are so many similarities between Derek and his father, Deacon, but you can really see that they are also complete individuals. I love how the author allowed Derek to actually have personality traits from both Cleo and Deacon (in my opinion it makes him a little more relatable). It only took a couple of hours to read and I was so absorbed in the story that I couldn't put it down. We get to know Derek's backstory and I cannot wait to get more of Emerson's. These two characters clash but eventually find an acceptable arrangement. I love Derek's untitled work!

I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this story!

Derek got his own book which is amazing! Derek is for sure Deacons son all brains! He meets Emerson an up and coming editor that has been his fan for years. She has been after Derek to write a book for ever but finally little by little she starts wearing him down. Cleo approaches Emerson to offer her a amazing job. The job is to make Derek's life easy. The big question is can Derek and Emerson continue to work together or is the walls going to come crumbling down? Cant wait to find out what happens nexted!

I really enjoyed Derek’s story. I was unsure about the direction Derek’s book would take but I was not disappointed. It starts with an informative prologue that briefly catches up and sets the scene for the rest of the book. I really liked Derek and it was nice to see that he had retained some of the elements of his childhood character from previous books even he does need a little push from Cleo and Deacon to get there. Emerson is very likeable and seems to be very similar to Cleo in her personality. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I loved this author and first 4 books but was extremely frustrated with the "boy" series. I get broken soul and all that but in 4 book there is about 4 chapters of happiness in this entire series. I know you need angst and heartbreak. But 4 books of grief I got through just wondering what I read and why the writer hated these characters so much. Seriously it has about an hour of happiness. I felt washed out and drained. I am not going to even bother with the last books which is a shame I adored the first 4 books.

Next generation

This is the first serial I have ever read where it features the romance of the adult child of the first couple, and the story is just as good as theirs. It's refreshing and unusual.
Derek has gone through some things. I really feel for him, though he can be insensitive, rude and cold at times (like his dad was!).
Big fan of Emerson. Nice to see a confident and self assured woman for once. Just who Derek needs. It's fun reading their interactions, knowing what is sizzling underneath.

Wow is all I can say after reading this book!!! What happened to sweet Derek. It's history repeating itself. Still I can understand to a certain degree that Derek has experienced some trauma in his life. Looking forward to seeing what kinda of journey Derek and Emerson is going to take us on. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. As always my review are voluntarily no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

1.5 I gave this author a try because I needed a change of scenery. Unfortunately this story and the characters didn't do it for me. I've read plenty of books about damaged dark characters, but these two were boring and appeared to possess some king of personality disorder. Derrick and Emerson's story wasn't entertaining.

I pushed to finish this book only to see that it didn't conclude in book 5. How much can you ramble on about a book editor who is now a glorified overpaid employee that is obsessed with organization, or Derrick's weird behavior and blaming it on his right side vs., his left side of his brain. This story had a weird theme to it that didn't resonate with me. One and done.

Loved this book, seeing a continuation of Deacon and Cleo’s son Derek into adulthood. The way his life, personality and relationships have been effected by his childhood and the way his biological mother used then abandoned him. His continued close relationship with his parents especially Cleo who constantly tries to make his life better, introducing Emerson who is perfect for him in every way.

I enjoy seeing how Derek is as a grown up. I'm loving Emerson. She's smart and is not a pushover. I also love how we get to see Deacon & Cleo many years into their marriage! I love how Victoria Quinn is building the characters in this series. Even new ones are strong and believable and add so much to this beloved series.

Wait, there’s more! These were the exact words that ran through my mind when I found out this book was published. Not only do I get to read about the next generation but I get a glimpse into the lives of Deacon and Cleo as they become older as well. You feel the anxiety Derek has just like his father. But you also see a different side of him that would astound you.

This book is the start of Derek's story, Deacon and Cleo's son. Derek is just like his dad Deacon and can't let the past go and keeps letting the past stand in his way. Emerson just wants to truly help Derek and be his friend, but Derek fights Emerson at every move she makes. The story is a slow burn to love and happiness.

Great start to the New Hamilton

We learned and grew with the young Derek. So to read about him now as a young man with his own mindset and thoughts was a interesting perspective. I felt like I watched him grow from a young boy just like how cleo probably felt. Can't wait for more developments.

Good Story

I have enjoyed the Hamilton series. They are easy reads. I like the MMC being so intellectual, that he can’t form responses very well. And it leaves mystery into which direction they’re going to go with the conversation. This one could use more editing. Ironic, seeing how the FMC is an editor.

Kept me entertained but as a hopeless romantic I don’t know how to go forward with my life.

After reading some reviews for the books that follow Emerson and Dereks story I know I won’t read them because I hate the feeling of heartache I’m feeling just with the first part of their ‘love’ story.

I’m surprised this wasn’t written 10 years ago with how terrible the women are portrayed, viewed, and treated in this book.

Spoilers maybe:
Don’t read this if you want some romance between main characters to happen at all in this book - the only spice is between the MMC and multiple other women. I hate the OW trope and this guy is just a giant bag of 🍆s
