Cecilia has always been interested in writing and spent many hours writing poems and short stories throughout her teenage years. She has always had an interest in fantasy, mythology and witchcraft.

As she grew up, her writing got put on ice as she followed her other passion – Animal care. She moved to England, where she completed her Bsc (hons) degree in veterinary nursing and started working full time at a 24 hour hospital. She later moved to Cambridge with her partner and two dogs, hoping to get a better work- life balance.

It wasn’t until the lockdown came knocking on everyone’s doors that she picked up her writing and fell in love with it all over again. It started off as one book, but by the time she finished the first draft of her young adult fantasy novel, she knew it would be a series.

I gave this book a 3.5 so rounded up to 4.

I enjoyed this book, However I feel like I was not the target audience. If I had read this 10 years ago in my 20's I'm just I would have loved the crap out of it. This is a YA book and it feels like it.

The world is nicely built, and the writing style is great. the author really makes you want to know more about Jax and Cassie.

I would recommend this book for anyone that that like YA books and urban fantasy.

I believe that Forgotten Memories by Cecilia Agetun is a contemporary fantasy that will be enjoyable for Young Adult readers.

This Fantasy feels like it can stand with many YA Fantasies that have become big names, with adventure, protecting loved ones, learning who to trust, the mystery of pasts and growth by learning about oneself. I appreciated that this was told from Jax's perspective and the attention to the world-building Cecilia.

While I think this is a well-written YA, I struggled with some things. I sometimes found the plot speed of moments happening was too fast or too slow. Also, some moments felt like some of the abilities are written in to make moments more convenient or cliche. BUT hear me say that might bother me as a 30-year-old woman but didn't when I was in High School.

This book made me feel so nostalgic with it being similar to YA books I’ve read when I was a teen. I SADLY felt so old following these teenagers, albeit magical ones, in their journey of self-discovery 😭😭😭 It reminded me of how uncertain you can be when you are young and inexperienced.

This kind of reminds me of Twilight, but if the characters are not trying to jump each other and they actually try to communicate better.

I love the found family in this story, which was really tight, and the development of trust between each characters. They each help each other to harness their powers and become better versions of themselves.

There’s also a reincarnation trope which always makes me feel THE FEELS. It’s one of my absolute favorite tropes in books. There’s absolutely nothing that makes my heart ache, both in a good and bad way, than someone getting reincarnated and finding their way back to someone they loved in their past life.

“A lifetime with you will not be enough, and I promise wherever you are, I will find you in the next life and love you again no matter what. Our love has no boundaries.”

This is VERY YA and should be read with that expectation in mind. If you read this as an adult, like me, make sure you understand that this story is definitely intended for a younger audience. I would say this would be absolutely perfect for teens ages 12 to 17.

I am still excited to follow their journey though. This book makes me feel both young and old, since it transports me back to a time when I was a young teen reading magical books like this, and old because I am viewing/reading this as a matured and experienced adult.

Thanks for giving me a free copy!

*Disclaimer: I have been sent this book free as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, feelings and opinions expressed in this review are explicitly my own and not influenced in any way*

Forgotten Memories is a book I'm going to have a difficult time forgetting about - pun intended.
Cecilia Agetun wrote Forgotten Memories which follows the life of Jax and Cassie, and their journey through exploring the magical ins and outs of their past, present and future. It had me hooked from start to finish and I can't wait to dive into why this book will be on my re-read pile for years to come.

Forgotten Memories is a YA fantasy novel following Jax and Cassie as they navigate what can only be described as seriously unfortunate circumstances, and the problems they encounter I sympathise with greatly. Coming of age, forbidden romance, and fantasy themes are all woven into the storyline, and were dealt with excellently by the author.

Jax - I wasn't a fan of him at first. He seemed moody and whiney, but as I read through the chapters (all from his point of view), I found myself sympathising with the wretched luck he is dealt throughout the novel. His character development came on in leaps and bounds, he stayed true to his moral compass and his compassion towards his friends and family is admirable to say the least.
Cassie - I truly felt for this young girl through every page. A teenager who has to be thrust into a world of magic and conflict, bearing in mind she has been sheltered from this her whole life, with betrayal and complex relationships at every twist and turn. Cassie handled everything life threw at her and she became my favourite character rather quickly.

I'll be honest, YA Fantasy isn't normally my genre of book, but Cecilia did such an amazing job and handled the book with a level of maturity and class I could only aspire to have. The phrasing in some paragraphs confused me at first, but pushing through those parts, it all became clear and made sense. The romance was handled tastefully, the conflict wasn't too brutal or fictitious, and the storyline flowed at a nice pace that was easily digestable and made me want to read on.

TL;DR : If you're looking for a YA Fantasy novel with magic; werewolves, witches, demons etc, and you need an easily absorbable book to read, Cecilia Agetun's Forgotten Memories is the book for you.

Forgotten Memories is a young adult fantasy novel written by Cecilia Agetun. This is the first book in the Freya Legacy series. The protagonist Jax showed the world in the novel from his point of view. From the first page, I was drawn into this fantasy world. It was refreshing to learn where this book would take me from the first paragraph. The opening incident started when Jax accepted a favor to protect his friend’s daughter. I witnessed the struggles he faced while keeping his promise. His battle between his emotions and his duties as a friend often collided.

Cecilia Agetun did wonders in balancing the character’s emotions and how it entwined with what happened around them. Every incident and emotion were clear and easy to understand. She managed to weave hints of what was to come in the early chapters. This brought a little mystery that kept me reading. The novel pushed me to look at my surroundings. Fate is a powerful thing. It has a way of taking us to the place we need to go and meeting people we never thought we needed. This book brought this out well.

I enjoyed every minute of it. My only concern was the usage of single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks for dialogues. I wished she had used the proper quotation marks for dialogue tags. It would have caused less confusion, on my part, in the opening chapter. Based on my remarks, I would rate Forgotten Memories four out five stars. Good job Cecilia. I recommend this book to all those willing to believe in fate. It’s all around us. Friends turn into enemies. Strangers into the people we keep dear to us. Families often developed from the most unexpected circumstances. I can’t wait for book 2.

Good start to a new series

Forgotten Memories by Cecelia Agetun

YA fantasy romance

Forgotten Memories is the first book in the Freya’s Legacy series, written by Cecilia Agetun.

This story is told from the perspective of Jax, an anomalous demon. Jax has promised his best friend Nick that he will protect Nick's daughter, Cassie and to teach her to understand the abilities and powers which will manifest after her upcoming seventeenth birthday.

Jax soon realizes that dark forces seem to be connected with the foster home Cassie is living in with her foster family, putting Cassie and her foster siblings at risk. Will Jax be able to keep his promise to Nick to keep his daughter safe?

Strange magic seems to be at work, as each time Cassie and Jax touch, they share memories and feelings which they cannot remember nor explain.

I enjoyed this book, I found the storyline intriguing and the characters engaging. The flashbacks to the past tied the relationships between the characters together in a surprising and satisfying way.

This is Cecelia Agetun's debut novel and I believe that she has a bright writing career ahead of her.

If you loved Vampire Diaries (the show) and Twilight, this is a book for you!

You follow Jax, the MMC, as he fulfills a vow to his friend to watch over his half-demon daughter in the human world. Honestly, I typically don't read books where you only follow the MMC, but in this case I loved it! I also enjoyed that Jax was such a supportive and sensitive MMC and from the start wanted to do right by Cassie. I also liked that Cassie was so open to Jax, and really tried to understand him even as she was thrust into a world of magic/demons that she had no clue about before.

The suspense starts early with Cassie and Jax having a strange electrical feeling when they touch other, and I couldn't stop reading as I wanted to find out what their connection was. Cecilia did a great job plugging small clues, and when the flashbacks started - OMG! I was very impressed by how moved I was during the flashback chapters. There are also several plot twists that I didn't see coming (and I typically can lol, I read a LOT of romantasy/fantasy).

I also loved that the side characters were thoughtfully explored along with the MMC and FMC, and the friendships were so well created!

The last 30% are a roller coaster and I'm here for it!

I can't wait to read the sequel!

If you enjoy magic, demons, werewolves, witches and mysteries this is a good one to read.

This book had the 16/17 yr old me jumping up & down!!!
I love that within the first few chapters we learn that this book will have more than just your regular old Demon around.
The beginning sets thing up nicely and leaves you with questions you’re begging to find answers for. It then slows down for a little too long I felt. It picks back up around 60% into the book and things start moving at fast but steady pace keeping you wanting more.

Written from Jax point of view was great. I loved him as MC. His progress through the book was fun to read and had me right there with him all the way.
Cassie not so much… perhaps because I feel like she was under developed. I hope to see more in the next book.
Out of all, Leah is my fav!!! I loved every minute she was around.

Overall I liked the book and want more of Jax.

• Contemporary fantasy
• Demon with feelings
• Magic
• Unlikely allies

Forgotten memories has a unique take on the challenges of being a demon tasked with protecting your best friend’s daughter in the human world. This book was a little slow for my liking and the quick trust between Cassie & Jax felt unrealistic (though this does get explained later) but it made it harder for me to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
There was also a lot of subplots to add to the complexity but in my opinion some felt written out of convenience or awkward.

However, I did enjoy the awkward moments Jax had from not being in the human world as much. Overall, it wasn’t a bad book, it just didn’t resonate with my personal preferences. That being said, I’m not a YA anymore, so if you are, and you enjoy the supernatural world with a slow start, you may love this!

If I read this in my teens I'm sure I would have liked it a lot and read it in one sitting. Now, it did take me a bit longer, but it was a pleasant experience nonetheless. It was an easy YA book with magic and all kinds of beings and very tangled family relationships and an evil organization that steals magic.

The characters don't really show their college-going age, and honestly, sometimes, they are made a bit too dense. What I mean by that is that information is clearly transmitted and they should be able to understand it and yet they still go "I couldn't understand what she was trying to tell me." or "I had more questions than answers now. "

There are some funny bits and some parts that made me say "awwww", so I'd say it was pretty decent. Not a masterpiece by any means, but nice enough.

This was a good book. I enjoyed reading the relationship between Jax and Cassie and seeing how their realationship grew! There wasn't as much world building as I would of liked for some of the places but that is okay honestly. The characters were fun as each has their own thing special about them. Seeing Jax as something more then your typical demon was great to be able to read! The investment i had in how this book was going. The memories? Chefs kiss honestly, it was so creative in my opinion! 10/10 would recommend for a good read! I can't wait for the other books.

Jax is easily one my favorite YA characters

A demon who has knows how dangerous his own powers are and has more self-restraint than I'd have if I was in his place. Though he seems powerful, there are certainly entities stronger than him, posing enough dangers.

The world is very interesting too. I got the feeling of a world inspired by viking myths (the raven and names like Freya) but then merged with contemporary YA to form a new world of its own. Magic spells, demons, shapeshifters, and memories of the past. The story has hints of several layers around it which I'm guessing will get explored in future books.

Also, I really like the cover art

The most interesting part of this book was the world-building. It was well built and full of different integral places and characters. I didn’t really feel like shipping Cassie and Jax together though and the plot itself, although alright, wasn’t written in a very good way. There was so much of telling, not showing, and the descriptions weren’t very fun/exciting to read. The characters were alright though and I mainly hope to see some improvement in the writing style for the next book because that’s the main thing that caused iffy-ness on my end. So my 3 stars is just for the okay world-building which includes the magical parts of the characters too since the magic was pretty cool too!

I really enjoyed this one! Jax heads to the human world to watch over a friend's daughter who is about to come into her magic, meaning she could be in danger.

Cassie isn't as oblivious to the supernatural world as Jax initially believed, making his job a little easier, but when he discovers some odd magic at Cassie's house, he tries to find out why.

I liked the flashbacks to the past, showing how everything (and everyone) fit together in an unexpected way.

I found this story to be an intriguing one, and it was really easy to read. I look forward to the next one!

This book had a lot of great descriptions that added a lot to the world, and it helped build the world well. I liked the characters and how much they cared for each other. Jax struggled with his demon and losing control. While his was literal, I think that is a very relatable thing. His dilemma with his demon really made him an interesting character.

The plot was interesting ad kept me reading. I was able to read the story pretty quickly because it kept me engaged. The conflict made me want to find out what was going to happen next. The author did a great job with this novel.

Demons, Magic, and Shifters

This book started off rather slowly. Eventually, it does get very interesting, though. There are demons, and they can be good and bad. There are witches and shifters as well. It's a typical good versus evil theme. There is no language, but there is violence. Nothing graphic. There is implied sex, but nothing written into the story. The book is good if you don't mind magic and demons. The romance is sweet. I won't be reading the second book because of the demons, but if you're okay with it, it's one to consider.

Life has recently had more downs than ups for many of us lately. However, reading Forgotten Memories helped me escape to a world of magic and budding love. It was well written and Cecilia definitely made you fall in love with the characters. This was my go to when stressed or when having to deal with traveling delays. This was the 1st book that I read from Cecilia but I definitely want to look into her other books and look forward to her for future books.

This is Book 1 in "Freya's Legacy." We are taken on a journey of Jax and Cassie life, past present and future, through the Jax's eyes. It's a lesson of learning to love, who can we trust. I found Cassie had a lot more to learn than Jax. There is everything in this book, magic, romance, fantasy, adventure, mystery and more. I didn't want to give much more away, apart form I love the story line and it flowed well

Definitely a 3.5 I enjoyed the story but I feel like this would be much more enjoyed by a younger audience. Which I love reading YA and NA so maybe that was my mishap? Sometimes the story line moved quickly where I had to go back and re-read but other times there were a bit of ‘is this going to happen’ and then it would which I was like how convenient. I received this for an honest review and am leaving this voluntarily.

This book had a lot of good ideas that I feel like weren’t don’t well. I’m not a fan of insta-love/obsession no matter if they’re fated to be together or not. I also couldn’t get behind people knowing about certain elements of magic but not others as well as being able to text over dimensions. I was left with a lot of questions being unanswered and having more questions than I started with.

Fabulous read

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait to read more. The only thing that I struggled with is the narrating character didn't always sound male. I could tell the author was a female trying to speak for a male. However, that issue became minor as the story unfolded.
It's a brilliant story that I look forward to continuing.

This book has a lot of potential and could have been great. I didn’t feel convinced by the relationships / depth of relationships which could have been more convincing. I found it quite annoying that each chapter title gave away what was about to happen in the chapter - the book creates its own spoilers. Not sure yet if I would read the second one.

Absolutely amazing! This book will build you up and then rip your heart out then build you back up. It's amazing can a demon and a witch truly love and Conquer anything that comes between them? This journey between the characters and how they truly all woven together is magical and 1000 percent worth reading! Can't wait to start the next book!

It's terrific! It gave me Twilight vibes in a good way. The story is well told and the opening firmly anchored me in the storyworld.

The writing is smooth and the pages fly by. You can feel something sinister lurking and you can't wait to figure out what will happen. The ending was fabulous and left me very satisfied. And looking forward to book 2.
