Crushing on the Quarterback

Hooking up with your teammate may be a bad idea, but when it comes to Cannon Diaz? Worth it.

In my opinion, anyway. Cannon doesn't seem to agree. After we hooked up at our high school graduation party, he left town the next day without so much as a goodbye.

Bummer. I was really hoping for a repeat.

Three years later, I'm shocked when the superstar quarterback transfers colleges, and we end up playing for the same team again.

Not gonna lie, I'm still harboring an epic crush on the guy, and I don't try to hide my interest in him. That's not my style—much to his annoyance. Or so he would like it to appear.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I'm imagining the way Cannon watches me back when he thinks no one's looking.

Crushing on the Quarterback is an MM romance short story.

Crushing on the Quarterback is an enjoyable short story but it tries to do too much, and it just doesn't work out due to the short length. I feel it would have been a lot better as a full novel or even a novella.

It started HOT!!! 🥵 DAYUMMMM THESE BOYS - you can call em football whatever, but rugby is hotter! (please don’t come at me, it’s not always I got my rugby boys)

I love the storyline and tension between the MCs. for a short book, it was good and I enjoyed the writing. It had a really strong (porny) start which really helps with my current mood.

As for the MCs, I can sure you that Channon was almost likeable. I mean he’s quiet, little grumpy, in the closet and all but I didn’t fancy the lacking of his character’s depth. You see, I don’t like talking about depth when it’s a short book, but I do disagree that length has something to do with how a book is considered well-delivered. because I found lots of amazing novellas. The point is, I don’t get it how Channon - one that was insecure with his sexuality and wanted nothing to do with Kemp 3 years ago, suddenly had intense sexual feelings towards Kemp three years after. He said he has always wanted Kemp since freshman to be exact, and that part was the depth I needed so I wasn’t satisfied. Yes it was only 50 pages, but I still wasn’t satisfied.

Another thing is Channon and Kemp looks so similar. Again with the depth, but this time personalities. The only thing differ them is that Kemp was the one on the knees three years ago when they hooked up. That was exactly how I differentiate them everytime I read their POV. “ok this is Kemp. The one that sucked Channon’s dick.” Otherwise, it was hard to recognize them individually LMAO awkward.

Overall, I do suggest reading this with lower expectations. Really, do not expect depth even the novella-kind-of-depth. But I have to say, the HOTNESS this book holds definitely helps with everything else that I complained ! 😬💗

MM Romance
Football Second Chance
2.5 Stars ⭐️

This is super short and I prefer this author’s shorter stories so no problem there. However, this author can and has done better. This was like serious whiplash. When they reunite 3 years later one of them doesn’t want to come out, talks about it at length via boring inner monologue about the football draft and not wanting anything to hurt his chances. Next chapter, he’s making an announcement that whatever the guy’s name is, is his blah blah. Wtfever 🙄

I read this a few days ago and remember no one’s names. This is going to be one of those stories I see at the end of the year and don’t remember even reading. However, if you are in the mood for a short, hot football romance this will do the trick.

Tropes:
- sportsball
- second chance, kind of

Closeted QB Cannon has a steamy bathroom hookup with another football bro and then goes into full gay panic after he busts a nut and completely ghosts Kemper.

Three years later and still very much in the closet, Cannon switches colleges to get more game time and is once again thrown back together with Kemper. This time he refuses to runs scared!

& let me tell you, the chemistry between these two is hot on and off the field 🥵

This was a super quick and steamy little queer sports romance, and I loved every bit of it. I wish it were longer though 😫

I wanted something short and cute to read, and this was perfect. I enjoy reading this author’s stuff. She never disappoints me. This story was like 50 pages, but it was fun and sweet. The sex scene was also very yum. Oh and the ending! I liked that, too.

This is a very quick, short story.

There's not much to it, and it ends very quickly. But for what we do get, I enjoyed Cannon and Kemper together. The chemistry was there, and if we'd gotten a full book with them, I think it would have been really good.

But, as it is, this is just super fast, with a hot blowjob scene to start us off, and then jumping 3 years in the future after high school to when they're gonna start their senior year of football, and Cannon transfer's to the school Kemper is at.

They reconnect, and have some hot sex before agreeing to start dating.

For Cannon, he wasn't ready to come out, but then all the sudden he just kinda was and it was NBD for him, so that could have been done better, imo. Also, of course, with this being so short, the ending was rushed and them saying "I love you" was completely unearned.

So, 3 stars for me. It was good for what we got.

3.5 stars!

Kemper and Cannon have a hot moment together but while Kemper is more than happy to make his sexual preferences public, Cannon is not. The two of them part ways until a few years later Cannon finds himself on Kemper's football team. The attraction that brewed years ago comes surging forward and now Cannon isn't so willing to let Kemper go.

"You know that feeling when the play isn't going the way we planned, but you always seem to know I'm going to search you out downfield, so you find a way to get open? I know I can throw the ball and just trust in that connection between us. And it's always so effortless with you. I guess it's a little bit like that. I don't know how we'll make it work, but I just trust us. Always."

This was very surface level but it was smutty. I think this had the potential to be a really good story had it been way longer. I just didn't get enough time with these fun characters but for a short MM story, it hit the spot.

Cute story, fluffy no angst

Contains: teammates, coming out.

Cute , sweet and short story about 2 players of football who decide to give it a shot to love. Remove 1 star cause I would have appreciated a more developed coming out story as to the team, friend, etc.

This was a fun and cute short story. I really liked that there wasn’t any waffling when Cannon decided to come out. His matter of fact, it’ll be what it’ll be, attitude made it a relaxing easy read.

Firstly I enjoyed reading this a lot. It promised to be a short quick romance and it was. Low on angst, high on steam. Funny in some spots. It was what it was and that was great. However, it didn’t fully deliver on what I came into it expecting.

The blurb gave me the impression that the book was about a high school crush that didn’t develop after a steamy encounter, and, how years later, the two end up back on the same team and flirtations happen. This, however, wasn't exactly how it played out.

quickest, easy breezy read. nothing crazy special, but entertaining and cute :) very very fast paced, almost to the point of feeling unrealistic, but with 60ish pages what else do you expect?

Trying to get through some of my already-downloaded books on my Kindle before I move onto my next series. Here's Baylin Crow's "Crushing On The Quarterback."

This short story was sooooo gooooooood! It was very low angst and very high steam. It was fantastic and fabulous and the sexual tension? D: Yes!

Very worth the 60-minute read.

I honestly don't know how this one happened, it was on KindleUnlimited and only 100 pages so I shovelled it in before class. A crush on the quarterback was definitely had. Football was referenced. You know, things happened.

It was a cheeky lil read, but I think it should either be longer or not exist at all. The word count is too short to get properly attached to any of the characters, and with that care about their relationships. Some 250 pages of this would have worked, because the concept itself was strong; it was really just the pacing that held it back.

For the writing style and plot, solid four stars. For the characters and pacing, one or two. This is the type of writing that would work well as a fanfiction, where you already know the characters and you can fill in the blanks on their personalities.

story of Kemp and Cannon

📚Crushing On The Quarterback by Baylin Crow
🔈no audiobook

This is a teammates to more college sports romance, featuring Kemp and Cannon, and is a standalone novella.

Kemp and Cannon played football together in high school, they hook up at the end of their senior year but end up going to different colleges. Three years later, Cannon transfers colleges and Kemp and Cannon end up in the same football team.

This is a no angst, spicy little novella. It’s a great read, light hearted and it’s sweet as the two MMCs have been crushing on each other since high school. I kind of wish it was a full size book.

Things to expect in this MM romance are:
College sports
Teammates to more
Football players
Second chance
Both MMCs crushing
No filter MC
Light hearted
Bit of dirty talk
Bit of spice

This is only around 85 pages so it’s short and sweet.

Canon is the QB and closeted. Kemper is a WR and out. They both have a one night stand in high school, then three years later end up on the same team in college. Kemper is a flirt which Cannon cannot avoid, they have sex and then fall in love asap.

Look I’ve read 300+ novels with the same storyline, so I can’t exactly hate this but alas it is something that I will forget. It’s cute though.

3,5/5 mas arredondado pra cima porque é pequeno, mas é bem redondinho e tem personagens muito carismáticos. Deu pra visualizar o time, o roommate, a ambientação, todo mundo direitinho.

A fun short & spicy read!

I really enjoyed the second chance vibes in this one! You don't get stuff like that in short books very often, so it was nice.

Cannon and Kemp are really fun mcs. They're a good spin on the grumpy/sunshine trope. Leo is a cute little side character too!

The spice is pretty fun. the intimate scenes could have been drawn out a little bit more, but I still enjoyed them.

This was cute but definitely too short. It felt like a rush at the end and didn’t really make much sense why suddenly he thinks so different. I wish they had more time to strengthen their relationship and I wish we could have actually seen Cannon changing his mind about the situation.
It was still cute und I liked the spice in this too.

Livro curtinho.

Amazing short story

Football teammates, low angst, high heat! Great short story with amazing writing.

Lots of banter back and forth between the characters, loved it.

Baylin writes dirty talk so freaking hot. Of course I wanted more, but I’m satisfied with the story 😏🔥

Cute.

These two typical high schoolers who played football together. Seems both have a little crush on each other but neither know it. Graduate and go to different colleges. Are pulled back together and discover each other a who!e lot more and play together wonderfully.

Short and sweet

I def think Kemp and Cannon could have been a full length story that I definitely would have read, but that being said I love a good short story, too. It was short and sweet and I loved it.

loved!!!

This short story is jam packed with steam, laughs, sexual tension and love. The chemistry between kemp and cannon both on and off the field is palpable. Loved their story. And glad they came full circle. They are so awesome together. Wish we had more.
