Well, I expected this I suppose.
I just didn’t want it to happen.

First off, this series could’ve been a single book. The books themselves are so short that the “plot” in each of them ends us being rushed and loses any sort of impact.
Second, Jade and Malachi spend two and a half books playing this hot and cold game with no logic behind it. When they finally decide to seal the deal, we get a fade to black. Really?? I’m rewarded with nothing after having to endure their useless back and forth spats and attraction for two whole books?
Third, the plot twists.
Jade spends three books raving about her sister and how she saved her and she’s her reason for breathing.
And suddenly she’s dead because of a group of fae that, for the first time, Malachi let live after threatening his wife/her sister twice??
And the Paragon?? This is the fae version of the Volturi and you can’t convince me otherwise.

Lazy writing.
Be better.

Book 5 of 2023

The first 2 books I adored. I was so, so excited for this release but the book just felt flat and disorganised. And felt way different than the first 2.

The book seemed to move extremely slow, like slowest book I've ever read, and suddenly there were so many plot twists and action scenes just packed so tightly that they didn't make sense.

This book left me with so many questions and left me quite disappointed. If this was the first book from the series, I was definitely not going to read book 2. Not quite sure I want to read book 4 either.

I was obsessed with Mal and Jade and now I've read book 3 I'm kind of disconnect from them and don't vibe with them or with them being together anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm super sad I didn't love the third book as much as I wanted to love it.

Okay, so I loved the first two books but this third one just didn’t quite do it for me. I think it’s the constant flip-flopping of emotions between the characters. I get that they’ve gone through some stuff but the constant back and forth seemed to be the vast majority of the book and seem to make it drag even though it’s short.

Also, certain events happened in the book that should’ve played a huge part in character development or plot seemed to just have characters move on so quickly. I feel like the pacing of the book is off. Much of the book seems like nothing is really happening and then all of the things happen and you’re left with a cliffhanger at the end until the next book (which I don’t mind cliffhangers at all).

Genre: Fantasy
Tropes: Arrange Marriage, Kind of enemies to lovers
Standalone: No
Series: Fae of Rewyth #3
Cliffhanger: Yes
Rating: 4 ⭐

“If you are willing to risk your kingdom, your reign, and your people for me,” I paused, staring into those deep forests of eyes, “I won’t stop you. But I don’t think I’m worth saving, Mal. It’s too much trouble–” Malachi shut me up with a kiss.

Well certainly this book was interesting like past two books. The character development of Jade was awesome. I liked her powerful and the development of their relationship was quite good. I must say that everything was executed so well.

I am so excited for the next book. And I hope the next release would be soon.

To be honest I like the idea of this story and where it is leading. However, some of it felt as if it were just put in As a page filler. The entire portion of Tessa and Adonis seemed like it was going to go somewhere great and then poof it was done? And the Eli situation? What is going on here? And Jade never listening. I mean come on already. A little frustrating. I just didn’t get some of it. Definitely led us to the next book. This may have been specifically set up this way. So I didn’t really dislike the story I was just a bit confused.

my thoughts while reading this book:

- jade, you are "in love" with a man who tortures people you care about. does that seem healthy?
- i felt absolutely zero emotion when tessa died
- one battle is not a war
- why the fuck did the fae not use their supposed magic during this supposed war ??
- the fae have wings yet fight only on land ????
- silas is the leader of the paragon but was taken down by malachi within 1 minute of being captured ??????
- i genuinely don't understand what's happening

I think I prefer the second book in the series than this one, but I am still with the series and eager to see what happens next. I wish there was more romantic moments in the story, or romantic plot was more evident to the deep love the charters are said to have for one another. A lot of the plot is repetitive and just waiting for things to happen, so not a huge fan of that.

It was so bad, I want to give you a zero, but that's not possible, so I give you a one.

I was hoping this series would improve with continued writing experience, but i was wrong.

the book still make 0 sense, there was so many plot holes and barely anything happened.

there seemed to be a complete character transplant of both the FMC and MMC as well as other characters. everyone became bloodthirsty psychos hellbent on revenge on anyone who threatened jade or looked at her wrong. there wasnt a bit of remorse and i just straight up hated the characters. honestly wanted to to dnf at like 60% but persevered.

I did not like malachai at all after the last book, and honestly it got worse. After nearly killing jade to protect himself, his excuse was that he had to use her to prevent him from dying bc if he died he couldnt protect her…. like ok bro sure are we all just believing that?

i wanted to like it and gave it a change but just did not.

Jade is clearly the key to solving all these issues. Just breaks my heart she has to go through so much endless trauma to figure out how to save anyone. Truly this book has lots of lows and very minimal highs. Ugh! Hoping this next book tells us more of what’s to come.

Also why couldn’t this just be one book? It’s like 5 mini books. 😆

Tropes:
Fated mates/ like calls to like
Age gap
Touch her and die
Fae/human or witch tbd

I have given up on this series for now. I downloaded them onto my kindle whilst away as they were easy reads but now I am home I don’t believe they are worth it.
Poor dialogue, many grammatical errors, poor plot and world development/ explanation and finally PG, waited for the smut and when it finally happens it’s a fade out scene.

These books are quick reads , yet the story line is similar
Some things in this book happened and I was put off , but since there wasn’t character development
When said characters are offed, my reaction was more of “hmm anyway”
I fear I’m still invested. So I’ll be hoping to book four soon enough

It was like very predictable… you have jade and Malachi going from “I hate you” to “ok.. my love for you is so strong, let’s make out?” 💀😭 Like it happened every time they spoke words to each other. Then yk Jade gets into some mess and her savior comes and saves her *ahem* Malachi. After like 20% of the book you kinda expect what you expect lol 🤯😂

Mid. Tessa shouldn’t have died. It was a cheap and abrupt death too. She deserved something different. Also the plot wasn’t there for this one. Entertaining still… but meh.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️7/10(Very Good)
🌶️.5 1.5/5

“Be their queen,” I pushed. “Be powerful and fearless and wild. And be mine.”

We Finally get to see Malachi as KING MALACHI after the events of the last book. The fallout from what happened in the last book is still in the air and the trauma between what jade and Malachi went threw is unfolding. We get a lot more court politics in this book. With the change of leadership there is always bond to be drama and this book spares absolutely none of it. Your heart will be ripped out with a few life altering events for the characters we have grown to love so much, but they are pivotal to the character development. Just like before you will have betrays, death, war, and a few plot twists. This book has the least amount of spice but with how much emotional trauma and self discovery we have in this book, I’m happy there wasn’t a lot of spice. We do however get that sexual tension we love between our two MC and it’s to die for. This book is a build up for the next book but it is done beautifully, you won’t want to skip out of this storyline

Not gonna lie, this started out like the generic version of ACOTAR. A really forced one. Then the plot developed a bit more, but there are glaring similarities. I almost didn’t finish the first book because it was kinda cheesy. However, the books are less than 300 pages are a quick read. The story line has developed a bit but the love interests are throwing me. He’s almost manic? There is only in more book in the series to be released this summer, so I’ll likely finish it to see what happens to him. Overall, 2.7/5 and 1/2 for spice

I expected nothing more than what we got from this book, which was the same lack of plot, character development and world building as the first two books.

The relationship between Jade and Malachi still continues to grow without any actual context, story build, or actual relationship. They are just all of a sudden so deeply in love with each other with knowing next to nothing about each other in general.

I think it's safe to say we learned more about Malachi on page 1 of War of Wrath and Ruin than we did in the entirety of the first two books put together. Granted, we still know nothing more than he was a tormented boy with an obsession with a human female. We know nothing more about Jade aside from the fact that she can't make up her mind, makes the worst possible choice in every scenario, and is now -1 sister. Imagine, the one character that we as readers were actually getting to know and have a story built with subpar character development, dies. With no context aside from it being the people who should have died two times over at this point but those men were some how the exception to the 'nobody threatens my wife and lives' rule.

Every single plot twist was predictable. Can Jade disobey an order she was given? Of course she will! Will Malachi's sister do the exact opposite of what was asked of her? Duh! Will every character in the book make the worst choices they possibly can? Hit the nail right on the head!

0 world building, yet again. Supposedly multiple 'allies' came to help which were all recently enemies under his father but there was no story or explanation as to why they came? No meeting to determine if they could be trusted or had ulterior motives? That seems like the correct way to handle it when wanting this position for decades.

0 character development or developments in relationships. People are just instantly okay with each other after everything that happens or they die. No middle ground. Did you used to not trust Random Person A, well, now you do with no reconciliation of the wrongs they did to you.

A sub par romance with 0 story, after two and a half books finally decide to make their marriage official and get down and dirty, yet it fades to black and then is never spoken of again. We still have no idea who the Paragon really is, even though the author gave herself the perfect moment with Malachi opening up to Jade to explain who this big evil actually was. However, just like everything else that conversation was as short as possible because 'Saints' forbid we actually get to learn more about the character backgrounds and story. (We still also have 0 indication of who these Saints are or why they are important or even why it's considered a curse word?)

The only thing I can be thankful for is that I finished the third book before the next book in the series comes out, so I can conveniently forget about it and not feel like I need to suffer through yet another book. Debatably, the worst thing about this entire series is that these last three books could have been shoved into one 500-600 page book and been more effective as a single book. The concept could have been amazing, with plenty of areas for twists and turns to happen that weren't actually predictable. Great concept, half assed writing, and lazy editing caused something that could have been great to be less than even sub par.

This book took a little more for me to get into. It was a little slow going. But I am excited about all the developments.

Malachi and Jade said I love you to each other and Malachi finally gave into his feelings for her. That made me super happy especially since it was a two book fight for him. It didn’t take Jade long to forgive Malachi for what happened at the end of book two. Which I mean I kinda get why but I also wish it had taken her longer to forgive him. He did hold a knife to her throat and threatened her life.

Malachi is always under estimating her. But in the end she comes through. I love watching her come into her powers through out the book but it seems like there is a lot more. I still don’t really understand the prophecy it sounds like it’s just for her to create peace and bring powers back to the fae and witches.

Serefin and Adeline are so cute together it’s so sweet. I wish I could see more of them. I also wish I could have seen more of certain scenes like the coronation it was so fast paced in my opinion and not much described about how it was set up. Just that fae we’re dancing and drinking and eating. And I was like okay? But there should have been a little more.

The ending of this book was kinda a surprise but not really. It was a surprise in the fact that the paragon started mentioning something new, some trials. But it was predictable in the fact that the paragon got through the fighting and main battle.

I am still very unsure of Esther I don’t know if I like her or hate her as a character but I do know that she is strong even if she was weakened during the book. I also question if she brought the paragon to Jade, Malachi, and Serefin or not.

I didn’t like that Jade’s sister died there really could have been something there with her and Adonis. And the fact that Malachi went softer then he was rumored to be in several spots, with isiah and the five fae that threatened Jade not once but twice. I guess he was going for the good king but that’s just not him.

Overall good book. Just needed some more details and better lining up of plots.

I was three books in, hoping that it gets better and had to DNF the third book at 23%.

The writing is just bad. Insanely repetitive and unimaginative. “So it seems your plan did not go according to plan.” And if I have to hear “prince/king of shadows” one more time… this phrase is repeatedly used, at least 5-6 times per chapter it feels like, to describe the male main character. It becomes a cliche.

There is no setup for how the characters get forced into marriage other than her father owes a “debt”. No explanation. The story opens up with her otw to the wedding with no backstory. It feels like you’re thrown into a scene with a scared woman you don’t care about. I went with it in hopes we’d have some explanation later, but no. And the stupid prophecy. I’m three books in and feel like it has barely been explained.

Also. I completely understand keeping the main female character in the dark. I get it. It adds suspense. But it’s highly irritating that, even with alternate POVs, there is NO explanation of what the heck is going on. No one whose perspective I share knows what the prophecy is or why the main character is special, and everyone is in the dark. Three books in and I’m really annoyed by it. Once the prophecy is kind of explained I feel like I was only given information I could have guessed at on my own.

I don’t like either of the two main characters. I have seen no growth, formed no investment in their stories or fate, and honestly wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t make it. The female main character is indecisive and shows no character arc, while the male main character is annoying.

It feels like the “don’t touch what is mine” trope is way over used. To the point that the male main character is just irritating and I flip through half of the scenes that involve that phrasing.

I like Adeline. That’s about it.

I’m pretty open minded normally but I do NOT recommend this series. It was not enjoyable to read. And I can’t remember the last time I DNF a book….

I completely re-read books 1 & 2 again before I read book 3 and I can say that this is one of my favorite series so far.
This book has so much emotion. Happiness, sadness, love, forgiveness, anger, confusion, confidence, betrayal, loneliness, satisfaction, jealousy, acceptance, guilt, embarrassment and so much more!

My heart hurts for Jade on many different levels.
But, I was so happy when she finally forgave and truly became Malachi’s. (Although, she should have known that Malachi had a plan when he told her to trust him. She trusted him in every situation but that one. -But I get it, she had a lot going through her mind and was still just trying to process what was happening and what had happen and after being betrayed the last thing she needed was a knife to her throat by the one person she never expected-)

When Adonis and Tessa met I was excited. I’m not ganna lie, I thought that was going to be the start of something for them!
So it is more than safe to say that I was in favor of the Kings punishment for traitors. I wish punishment would have been given after the second situation especially after Jade and Adonis had thought they handled the situation when it happen the first time.
Now I will always wonder what could have been for Tessa if things did not happen like they did.

Also, if Malachi and Jade or one of them (or anyone) does not end the Paragon and all who betrayed them.
Let’s just agree now, that will happen!! Okay, okay, good!!!

** Also, I want it to be known that everyone needs a Serefin in their life.. He truly is Malachi’s Ride or Die loyal best friend. Who is more of a brother at this point. **

If there is one thing I could say about this series, it's that it's at least consistent. I don't really find myself loving them more with each book, but I'm also not hating them more with each book, so I guess that's a good thing. I found this book to be pretty fast-paced, and I definitely would consider it an easy read, the same as the first two. I think there are ideas there, but I just wish the author would spend a bit more time developing some of the ideas and characters. I also found the pacing a little weird at points, but I guess the trade-off is that you have a book that can be read rather quickly. I did appreciate that the relationship issues between Jade and Malachi seemed to get resolved a bit and now dragged out. In this book, more of Jade's powers get shown, and I do feel like the overall plot is moving forward a bit, so I did appreciate that part of the book. The author also shows a much darker side to Malachi, which was nice to see, but I didn't really like the death in the book. The ending of the book seems to set up a type of trial in the next book and I did mention in a review of a completel different book, that I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with magical trials lately since they seem to be in so many fantasy books so I'm not sure how I feel about reading another trial. I'm still going to finish this series, I mean, I've made it this far, so I feel like I can't give up now. I feel like I don't have high expectations going into the next book since I feel like this series haw been pretty average but I can at least hope it says consistent and that I don't hate the next book.

Maybe some spoilers?

I honestly can't tell you where this series is going and it's not necessarily a good thing.

It is sooooo scattered it is hard to keep track of what is actually important.

It opens up to Isaiah being tortured by Malachi. Fine, we know he is morally gray but then why is it that his whole personality changed so that he could "be himself" and show Jade the real him? If he was always this person, why wouldn't he have let her see it before now?

I expected some character growth from Jade especially after Malachi brought her family to the castle. Instead we see Jade reverting back to "will they hate me"? Tessa has clearly grown and she isn't as big a character as she has been made out to be. Which brings me to her fate... there seemed to be an attempt at an emotional catalyst and it fell flat. I didn't feel bad about it at all, why? Because Malachi is all threats and actions except for this one instance.

My next gripe is that we got a fade to black? Everything prior to this was detailed but when it came down to the act itself, we get nothing? Highly disappointed there. Their relationship is so wishy washy that I can't find the chemistry that they so desperately need.

We get yet ANOTHER cliffhanger and this one makes even less sense than the others.
What was the point of Esther? What was the point of Fearford? What is the point!?
