Breathe is a collection of poetry that witnesses the transformative healing journey, from dark to light. Through love, loss, trauma, and ultimately, transcendence, Dan Sage's first major poetry collection, of nearly 70 poems, will remind you that you are not alone and that there is a way through hardship – via acceptance, expression, and gratitude.
This collection will speak to you regardless of what stage of the journey you are on. May you find in it a companion to help you through depression, anxiety, and heartbreak.
5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Breathe is a breath of fresh air for those carrying pain, and a lesson on how to release and let go of that pain on a healing journey.
From the very first poem, the darkness gripped me - that of the poem, and my own darkness, which I never quite learnt how to deal with.
The pain and heartbreak the author poured into these poems spoke to me, but amazingly, it didn't leave me there to wallow...instead, each poem evolves and shifts towards optimism, and shows you the way through the darkness.
I started reading, I couldn't stop, my soul hungry for answers. I immediately had the sense that this isn't a collection of sad poems, but as the blurb describes, a journey from darkness to light. There is a character arc here, where I as the reader will be guided from the darkness to the light - and I am here for it.
I needed to know how this book ends, because the book evoked emotions and deep reflection - I felt emotional reading it as old pains swept under the rug resurfaced, not in a terrible way, but in a 'so it's time we did something with these' sort of way.
I had so many questions, and I had to keep reading - I needed to hear the answers. I needed to know how my journey in this book ends, or at least, how this first phase of my healing begins.
How do we shake the old black dog that's hounding us? How do we let go of our pain? Is peace possible? And... Breathe.
These poems are easy to read, and I can tell this can book could be read in one sitting. This book will pick you up, and set you back down in a better place than where you started.
If you're looking for gentle words that resonate with you, that soothe old wounds and nurture you into a better way of thinking, guiding you towards peace, then I highly recommend looking up Breathe by Dan Sage.
Bought this book as a little gift to myself and was impressed by how much it resonates with me in many ways, from beginning to end. Truly beautiful and well written poems.
I don't think it prudent to review my own book, but I did write it, so I am pretty fond of it. I give myself 4 stars, as there's always room for improvement (unless you nail it with something like, 'The Beatles' with Sgt. Peppers or 'The Smashing Pumpkins' with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.) ;) xD
