King Henry III rules England but it is an England controlled by barons who wish to usurp his crown. When a new Pope demands unpaid monies owed to him then Sir Henry Samuel is dispatched to Rome to buy time for the beleaguered king. Once in France then treachery abounds. The dangers of sailing in a sea controlled by Moorish pirates adds to the problems Sir Henry and his new squire face. Back in England the king faces threats from all quarters and soon the knights of Cleveland are once more placed in danger.
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
A Wonderful Continuation of the Story of Stockton and the Valley
It was a pleasant surprise when I saw that Griff had decided to continue the stories of the men of the Valley and Stockton and surrounds. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I am a huge fan of Griff Hosker and devour his stories when they become available.
This story lacks a bit of the detail and tension usually in his stories. That is why it only has 4 stars. A very enjoyable read!
Sorry to push you Griff, but eagerly awaiting the next episode! The whole storyline is absolutely fascinating dipping deep into what is the history of our country. Fiction it is, but how close to the probable , the if, buts and maybe's.
Simon de Montford makes his move to claim the throne but reckons without the families of the Warlord..Sides change, loyalties tweaked but Henry Samuel still gives a bloody nose or two
