Giselle Kennedy's journey continues in the second book of the series, as she finds herself in a precarious situation with the man who once held her captive. As Giselle tends to Santiago's injuries and protects him from danger, she begins to develop a bond with him that she can't ignore.
But when Giselle realizes that Santiago has taken her precious locket, she starts to question their relationship and wonders if she can ever trust him. As they travel together to Fort Hall, Giselle must decide whether to stay with Santiago or leave him behind.
At the inn, Giselle is offered help by a group of strangers, but she must choose whether to trust them or take her chances with Santiago. With danger at every turn, Giselle must rely on her instincts and her growing feelings for Santiago to guide her on this perilous journey. Will she make the right choice? Can their love overcome the challenges they face? The answers lie ahead in this gripping tale of love, trust, and survival in the Wild West.
The beginning describes exactly how my daddy raised us: ‘This was the Americas, and people were free to do whatever they wanted. Most people were trying to survive … but for some to take their freedom as an invitation to visit horror upon others?’ I mean, that ‘my freedom to hit you in the face ends at your right not to have your face hit’.
The author also calls out the problem of racism. Santiago isn’t treated the same way that white men are; perhaps even less than a female. But yet, the white folk had no problems having the ‘other’ do their dirty work for them. All the better for Giselle, eh?
We’ll have to wait until ‘The Bandit and the Widow: Forbidden Feelings’ in order to find out…
The Escape: Undeniable Attraction is book 2 of the Proposal series written by Faith Isabel Bloom. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The main characters, Giselle and Santiago, are well-drawn and relatable. They seem almost like real people that you reach out and touch, instead of fictional portrayers. These two characters are on their own through most of this episode. The guys hunting Santiago have wounded him, but he and Giselle have managed to escape, hiding out in a cave for a few days, while Giselle treats the gunshot wound in Santiago's arm. It is just a deep flesh wound, so she does not have to dig out a bullet. After they leave the cave, they head for Fort Hall, in order to get supplies for their remaining journey to Kansas. Giselle charms both Santiago and his horse, and also manages to charm most of the people at the fort where they buy their supplies. When they leave the fort, the story begins to go into a dreamlike state. Giselle gets extremely tired, and since she feels comfortable riding in front of Santiago on his horse, she falls asleep and starts dreaming. However, the book does not share Giselle's dream. Instead, the story goes from her dreaming to the two of them coming upon an inn. This is where the story becomes hazy. I believe what is happening is that Santiago is also asleep, but still in his horse, and is having a kind of psychic connection to her dream. Santiago and Giselle enter the inn and Santiago seems out of place and not wanted. The people in the inn are laughing and so is Giselle, and she is completely ignoring Santiago. It is like she would rather be around these people, instead of Santiago. It is like a Freudian nightmare. At least I hope this is what I am reading. I hope I'm not disappointed in book 3.
I gave this episode 5 stars, hoping book 3 will bring them out of this nightmare. The two characters have feelings for each other, but they haven't told each other about these feelings. I will definitely read book 3 when it is released.
Giselle has been captured by the outlaw Santiago who is returning her to her former employer to collect the reward offered for her return.
As she tends the wounds he suffers from an attack by a gang they become closer but that is before she finds out he has taken a treasured item of hers and sent it with one of his men to prove her identity. You can see her anger, but also you can feel the attraction she has for her captor.
As they stop at an inn for food she is captured by men at the Inn who wish to know if she is willingly with Santiago or not. What will she tell them? Who can she trust...strangers or the outlaw?
The story continues in the series. I love the western and the descriptions of the characters. It is a good western romance with a bit of suspense and a hint of danger.
Thanks to Faith Isabel Bloom for writing another great story and for allowing me to read and review a copy.
Captive and Captor Santiago and Giselle are on the run from the men that have shot Santiago. Giselle starts to question Santiago who refuses to divulge much information Santiago has taken her from the only safe place she could find with the Taylors. He has taken away her chance at freedom and safety, only to deliver her back to those who wanted her captured. She had every reason to leave him Satiago to die and yet she does not. What will Giselle do now she has another chance to escape? This is a well developed historical story that includes elements of racism against Mexicans and woman. The characters are intriguing. Cannot wait to read the next instalment. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
This story is filled with suspense and tension. Giselle has been taken from her safety with the Taylors and is being brought back to William, who wants her punished. Santiago is only in it for the money he needs. As they spend more time together, they are starting to have feelings for each other. What will Santiago do? Will he bring her to William? I am looking forward to the next book in the series.... highly recommend. I received an advance copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.
