Rate this book

Gunstein Bakke (b.1968) was born in Setesdal, a valley in Aust-Agder county in southern Norway. He made his authorial debut in 2000 with the novel Kontoret. All his publications have been well received, but with Maud and Aud he has finally been recognized as one of the most original and interesting voices among Norwegian authors. Bakke's thought-provoking book combines poetic language, polyphonic narrative and astute analysis in a manner that stands out in contemporary Norwegian literature, and Maud and Aud has brought him much acclaim from literary critics as well as several nominations for Norwegian literary prizes. Bakke currently lives partly in Oslo, partly in Gotland.

"Před očima ti neuběhne celý tvůj život, tvůj život ubíhá každý den, ale ne teď neboť nemáš čas a proto nemáš život - právě teď - a proto ani nestačíš zemřít." Pokud člověk teda nezvládá tlačit a filozofovat zároveň.

Do silničního románu sestavil Bakke svůj filozofickej svět okolo aut, dopravy a silnic.

Pensum i samtidslitteratur

Kā dievs: pati to neapzinoties."

This book is not something for a quiet evening unwinding from work, it's challenging and thought provoking. If I were a teenager, or a person eager to experience new challenging style of experiencing a novel, I would have loved this book. It's full of imaginative scenes, metaphors, dreamy snippets of time, insightful pieces of inner though, everything tied together through the core topic of road (un)safety. As I'm older and look for a gradually built story that drags me in and entertains me without the need of employing thinking processes, I didn't enjoy it as much. But I can see why it got the awards.

Different style from the rest and it is really interesting that its main focus is the traffic and how it affects our lives.
