Only to have it shattered with a banging on the suite door. Now she is whisked away like a character in one of her novels with guns blazing and danger at every turn.
Diavolo a cover model, a DJ, an actor, and a boxer that has several degrees to his name. While he wants nothing to do with his family's business he has no choice after news of his father and brothers slaughter. Now he's the new drug lord of the Montoya Cartel with Valentina pulled into the chaos. Where twist, turns, danger, suspense, betrayals, family treachery, revenge and fiery passion are waiting for them.

What an opening! We have a best selling author - our heroine Valentina - whose eyes meet our Man/God Diavolo across a crowded book launch, in Paris no less.
Without spoilers, their first meeting sets of such a fast paced chain of events that we cross continents, blood is shed and identities revealed. No one is as they seem and the plot is multi layered and includes my absolute favourite, the dual POV.
So what missed the mark for me? I just didn't feel the chemistry between the H and h I'm afraid and yet their first meeting was fire and ice..... Their passion, and the steam, (again first meeting aside) was tepid at best. Sorry!
It was all wrapped up to conveniently without any of the push and pull and true angst that keeps me gripped.
Having said that, I LOVE Piper Stone so it pains me to say that this was not one of my faves, however this lady can still write and her prose is graceful and as descriptive as always. I so wanted to love it but just didn't. Sorry!

Valentina is at a writer’s convention when she meets sexy cover model, Diavolo and they share a steamy night together. Diavolo’s family is also part of the mafia and when his family is being hunted, he knows he must go back and keep those still alive safe. Now that Valentina is involved can he keep her safe as well? Fast-paced read with loads of action, drama and suspense. Great characters with sizzling chemistry. I loved it.

Piper Stone never disappoints! Valentina was a prosecutor turned romance author. She is feisty, sassy, and very independent. She has been hurt I the past and has no desire for a relationship. In walks Diavolo, he is hot, dangerous and has been on a few of Valentina’s book covers. They happen to meet at a book convention, and the chemistry and attraction is there. But after a night of pleasure, Diavolo is thrust back into a life he didn’t want, and Valentina was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or was she?
Secrets, drama, betrayal, violence, twists and turns, defiance, revenge, and chemistry will keep your interest from page 1. I have to say that some of these things, I did not see coming! I always enjoy reading anything from Piper Stone and this was no different. I look forward to reading more from her as she has become one of my favorites. Meeting and having wild sex with the cover model of a book is a fantasy we all would love lol. This happened to this character. Lucky b*tch! Valentina gave up law to write romance books. While at a book signing she meets Diavolo Montaya, the cover model from her latest book. Sparks fly leading to dinner and kidnapping. She was taken by mistake which leads to HEA. Skyler Morgan does a great job with the narration.

Brutal Heir: A Dark Mafia Romance. It's fast paced, pulse-pounding, mind-blowing, and intense. The characters are compelling, passionate and well developed. A dark, edgy, and thrilling romance that had me mesmerized from the opening line and once I get started couldn't put it down. This captive-to-captor romance was everything and more. The fiery sexual tension and fiesty back and forth banter between these two had me hooked and turning the pages way until sunrise. It was decadent and utterly addictive. Once I started reading I was riveted and on the edge of my seat. A brilliantly written story with a twisty plotline that keeps the reader engaged and guessing until the end.

Wonderful read, characters that written amazingly and the scenario is captivating
I guarantee that you will love this simply amazing story that has been written by a simply marvellous author that is able to draw you into the story completely and this will be totally engaged by the characters that have been written beautifully and a scenario that will quite literally have you hanging on every word.
Diavolo Montoya had suddenly found himself being drawn back to his childhood home after an assassination of his father and oldest brother, this had left his injured mother on life support and his younger brother and sister in a secret location, an effort to keep them safe from the murderers of his family.
Prior to being called back to his father’s home he had been at an author’s book
Convention/party when he had met the author Valentina who was a world-renowned author that is now also an award-winning author and their interaction had been combustible and there is not a thing she can do about her feelings.
Suddenly Diavolo and Valentina had to return quickly to his home when he was notified there had been a shooting and there and been several people murdered, him home had been in turmoil and those soldiers and staff left behind had been either dismissive or terrified.
Rojas was the man responsible for the terror within the house and also for the murder of his sibling and parents and it was apparent there would be no starting the new until she had been able to discover the truth alongside the man she was intending to wed.
The action and the story within this book is simply stunning and I do not want to spoil the read for others so I guarantee that you will be unable to put the book down until you reach the end and discover the final outcome.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

The daughter of a prominent politician with secrets, who has herself gone from being a renowned prosecutor to a romance writer of some fame, Valentina Jennings, meets one of the models who graces a couple of her book covers, Diavolo Montoya, and the chemistry between the two is positively explosive! And secrets are the name of the game in this fast-paced, exceedingly hot and steamy novel by Piper Stone. Valentina does not mention who her father is, nor that she was a prosecutor, and Diavolo leaves off the part about not only being a model, but the fact that he also happens to be the son of the head of the Colombian drug cartel. When they are incapable of walking away from one another the day they meet, their physical encounter is inevitable and scorching. Unfortunately, Diavolo’s father has just been brutally murdered by a rival, along with his older brother and his mother dies a few days later from injuries she sustained during the assault. Diavolo must leave the hotel immediately since the faction that killed his father and brother are on their way to kill him. Valentina has no idea Diavolo is more than a model so when he tells her she must come with him so he can protect her, she tries to walk away. But Diavolo is a man who always gets what he wants and if he cannot acquire what he wants, he just takes it. And he wants Valentina. This is how Ms. Stone opens her latest trope, Brutal Heir and it is probably one of her best novels. It is fast paced, exciting, hot beyond measure and emotionally challenging to read (but in the best way possible). This is how I remember a Piper Stone novel from early in her writing career. I could not put it down and I was truly sad that it had to end. You want this book!.

When romance writer Valentina Jennings decides to enjoy a sinfully decadent, very private, “rooftop to suite”, date with Diavolo Montoya, the gorgeous cover model of a few of her novels, it seems like the perfect opportunity for a delightful, “one and done”, fantasy interlude! When Diavolo’s “soldier” comes knocking in the wee hours, Valentina finds out just how wrong she was … “Brutal Heir” is brilliantly, beautifully written! The plot is extremely well developed, featuring a high level of tension in all the right places, AND in just the right amounts, all the while managing to make perfect sense along the way, AND at the reveal! This not only held this listener’s interest from start to finish, but produced quite a few “edge of your seat” moments where I literally had to use every bit of my restraint to NOT up the speed to break the tension! THIS is masterful writing and THIS is why I listen to audiobooks. Also featured is a heat level that is absolutely, positively, fan yourself forbidden, delicious, and delightful! The dialogue, THIS beautifully written, sometimes snappy, sometimes snarky, but at ALL times realistic and convincing … beautiful …dialogue, made all the more delightful by clear, emotional, perfectly timed narration, and spoken by characters so deeply defined they resonated WITH and created strong feelings IN this listener! Some of those feelings were positive, some not, but ALL were powerfully PRESENT nonetheless! No spoilers! I don’t want to ruin the many surprises this listen holds for anyone! Having checked all MY boxes, “Brutal Heir” is a five star winner in all categories! I loved it!

Buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!

Diavolo sexy as all get out now leader but with so much danger surrounding him, meeting the women of his dreams only to be drawn away from her due to his father, brother being murdered, mother left in critical condition, and younger sister/brother in hiding for their protection and all of this falling on his shoulders so fining the responsible parties for his family’s massacre. Their attraction was instant, very intense, and the magnetic pull had her going with him back to his home only to be met with danger, but walking away from the man her heart has chosen wasn’t an option but finding out who took his family that she could do knowing he would protect her but will they find out who took his family, was it an inside job, does he take care of the responsible party, can she hang in there with him despite the danger, and can they find peace with what happened, happiness?.

I loved the story of Diavolo and Valentina. Valentina is a world renown romance author/and former prosecutor. She's at a convention in Paris for authors and fans. She gets together with her cover model Diavolo Montoya. They have an amazing time together that turns into a sizzling night stand. There is banging on their suite door and she is being spirited away in a helicopter with danger all around her and Diavolo. Diavolo has carved out a life of his own without being in his family's business but when they are killed he is the only one left to take care of the Montoya Family Cartel. Valentina is pulled into the chaos but she finds herself fighting for a future with Diavolo. There is plenty of twists, suspense, danger, lies, betrayals, revenge, and passion. I couldn't put the book down until I learned the truth about who started the brutal attack on his family. Amazing characters, fantastic storyline. I enjoyed every word of this story and highly recommend it. I can't wait to read the next book by Ms. Stone.

Another fantastic read by the wonderful Piper Stone!
The hero in this book is very different from the typical Mafia romantic lead. Diavolo, (great name, by the way) has no interest in being involved with his drug lord family and has actually made a life far from the violence and danger he was raised in. As a model his photos have graced the covers of romance novels including several of Valentina’s. Unfortunately after his father and brother are murdered by a rival family Diavolo is reluctantly forced back into the life he’d thought escaped. I found it interesting having a male lead who is a Mafia lord against his will. I also thought Valentina, a former protector turned romance writer made for a unique heroine and in many ways a perfect match for the unwilling drug lord. Their chemistry was explosive but undeniable. The story was also not what is typically found in the Mafia romance genre. I truly enjoyed every single, exciting moment.

She saw him as the beautiful alpha who graced the covers of the romance books she wrote. He saw her as the passionate woman who'd awakened him from the dead. He's built walls around himself in an attempt to keep from pulling a woman into his darkness. Diavolo has been many things: an actor, a DJ, a cover model, a boxer, all in an attempt to steer away from what he fears most...becoming his father. He has stayed away from the cartel, but with the death of his father and brother, he is now the new drug lord of the Montoya Cartel. He wanted nothing to do with it and now he's pulled Valentina into this dangerous world. She knows nothing of his world, except for the books she's written about the mafia, and they've not prepared her for any of this reality. But Valentina keeps pace with Diavolo, step for step. He can't help but be amazed at her skills, suggestions and perceptions. The pace of this book is perfect and the hits keep coming as they find their way out of the danger. Their love story is not only sexy and sweet, it's genuine. They are the perfect match.

Amazing narration from Skyler Morgan. He brings the action, suspense and the heat with the chemistry, all to you ears . Perfect narration

The premise for this story was outstanding. The book was dark and brutal but did have light and life. The characters were compelling and real. Diavolo was forced into taking over as head of his family. He became what he feared most, a version of his father. He was an anti-hero, a dangerous man on a mission to protect Valentina and his family at any cost. I admired how he changed, still feared by his enemies, but he gained the respect and love of his family. Valentina was no shrinking violet. Despite the situation she found herself in she continued to fight for a future with Diavolo. I think that all of the struggles
and pain gave Valentina and Diavolo the tools to heal each other.

OMG! Wow what an absolute amazing book, the story was exhilarating and the characters were sensational. Piper Stone has done it again bringing another amazing story into our lives and imaginations, the emotions, the adrenalin, the endorphins, and our breaths. The story had action,suspense, violence, danger, murder, abuse, trauma, courage, strength, threats, healing, determination, frustration, manipulation, memories, games, fear, trauma, secrets, lies, pain, betrayal, enemies, twist and turns, forgive, lusty lovemaking and lots m,ore emotions to add to the mix. You know all the rage now is mafia books with Italians, Russians or Irish – or a mix of all three in a series. I totally dig those books but this one is a little different. It goes back to the old Cartel stories I read a while back. I had forgotten how much I love them. Diavolo is the perfect cartel head. He is all bada$$ but he has a kinder side which he shows Valentina. And don’t think she is a shrinking violet because she is not. The alpha guys will get me every time and Diavolo is totally alpha. I love their back and forth dialog and the relationship. I don’t know if this is going to be a series but I hope Piper writes more of the cartel stories. And that accent, yum!

hot Mafia alpha
Brutal Heir written by Piper Stone is a Dark Mafia Romance.
At first I wasn’t sure how this story line would work, a Mafia guy who is a cover model and a romance writer who used to be a prosecutor. But OMG this author made it work and it was hot. The characters were fantastic.
Diavolo Montoya is a hot dominate alpha male who has tried to build a life outside of the Mafia, but circumstances railroad the life he wants and his choices are taken away from him.
Valentina Jennings used to be a prosecutor and decided to let that career go in order to follow her dream of being a very successful romance writer.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a stand alone and has a HEA.

Another great read by the very consistent author Piper Stone. When Valentina a world renown romance author and former prosecutor meets one of her cover models at a convention, it's lust at first sight. Diavolo, cover model, has created a life without being in his family's business but when they are killed he is the only one left to take care of the Montoya Family Cartel. They soon find themselves running for their lives. The characters are well written, compelling storyline, sizzle, steam, action, drama, twists, and tons of turns. A great read and since it's available on Kindle Unlimited, a free read with your subscription. 4 1/2 Stars from me.

Lost me at 50% ☹️
For me, this author is hit or miss. It took me until 50% through to realize this was a miss for me. It had a lot going for it in the beginning, but at a certain point the wheels came off the bus. Dialogue became disjointed, repetitive and/or contradictory, and the FMC made a *really* stupid decision (which was where I bailed). *MINOR SPOILER* You are a smart woman - former DA and bestselling author - clearly in a life-threatening situation where you’ve been told to essentially “stay put” - and you decide to run out to save a puppy? Give me a break. I love animals, but this was a bit too ridiculous for me. It’s really too bad because I liked the overall premise. But my time is too valuable to spend any more of it on this one.

Valentina, an author, is in Paris at a convention where she sees Diabolo Montoya, the cover model of some of her books. A night of passion is interrupted and Valentina discovers that he is not what he seems and she is thrust into a world of violence, treachery and betrayal while discovering her feelings for Diavolo and dealing with the scars that both of them have. Well written and kept me up reading as I could not put it down. The attraction between Valentina and Diavolo is electric yet her calmness and strength is what Diavolo needs. A great story that I highly recommend.

Wow, I’m left speechless. This book is truly a journey in finding the truth amongst the the lies, information, puzzle pieces. As for my emotional their all over when it comes to the Valentina and Diavolo. They are so much alike and made for each other you truly can’t help but to keep them safe from harm. I love how protective Diavolo is of this family and Valentina. I also, love how Valentina’s past career heightened her abilities to truly see Diavolo and his many sides. Also, she truly is smart and is able to read between the lies. Most of all I love that Diavolo is a man of his word.

A new addition by this author and one I thoroughly enjoyed. I do like mafia reads right now and this was great. This story revolves around Diavolo Montoya and Valentina. Diavolo’s father and oldest brother is assassinated so he returns to his childhood town. His mother is on life support and his younger brother and sister in a secret location. It’s up to him to keep his family safe now. He met Valentina at an author’s book Convention/party just before his family’s assassination. Valentina is a world-renowned author and they are already smitten.

Good story with a lot of twists and turns that I was not expecting. Diavolo seems like an okay guy. Not super into the cartel life. Don’t get me wrong he can pull that part of his life out and throw it around like someone who has lived that life. The female lead gets the surprise of her life when she goes on a date with the cover model. She is kind, compassionate and not afraid the new Diavolo. She really shows her worth the further into the storyline.
Overall its an intriguing story with easy to like characters. I was wowed and shocked a few different times. I listened to this on audio. Skyalr Morgan did a wonderful job.

Valentina is a former prosecutor turned author. Her specialty is Mafia romances. When she meets the cover model for her books she throws caution to the wnd for a fling, but this will not be a brief encounter. Diavolo wants nothing to do with his father's business but he learns of an ambush that caused his father's and brother's deaths while also gravely injuring his mother and is forced to avenge them.
This was a great book. I loved the mystery, drama, danger and passion.
