On a journey to free the rest of her family, time-looping Tempara must visit a place where death isn’t final…
After Tempara successfully saved three of her Greater Temporal Fox family members from the clutches of a dangerous temporal ritual located in the Frozen Reaches, the Fox-turned-Dungeon Core travels south to an entirely different Wildlands region in hopes of freeing even more of her family. While it was treacherous in the cold, northern region where she called home, the new region is unlike anything she has ever encountered before.
The darkness-shrouded Nightgloom Swamp is not for the faint of heart.
Full of large pools of stagnant water where powerful, unknown creatures prey on those trying to cross over their domain, as well as narrow land bridges that connect different islands located inside the Swamp, the real danger comes from the dungeons that reside nearby. Out of those dungeons roam the undead in numerous hordes, and only those versed in the ways of the formerly living can successfully navigate their way through it without falling victim to the dangers lurking around every dark corner.
Will Tempara be able to brave this new and unknown region, or will she be frightened by the undead hordes waiting to pounce on some fresh meat?
This story contains Dungeon Core elements such as dungeon construction and defense, LitRPG/GameLit mechanics such as character progression and stats, and contains NO harems/sexual content or profanity.
I've been reading Jonathan's books since Dungeon World came out years ago and have to, he doesn't disappoint. Really loving the Temporal books so far as they really put the defense in dungeon defense. Sometimes, things might seem a little too hopeless, but that's when the hero shines through.
Almost exact same formula as Book 1, but not as interesting. Less in terms of characterization and more in the way of grocery lists of stats and descriptions.
Tempara once again delights with her logical strategy and determination. The new mechanics are fun and the new characters were interesting and didn't over stay their time in focus. I'm really looking forward to the next one :)
A bit heavy going with the continual recycling of the core, but this seems to be the dynamic of the tale, and it shows the importance of persistence and the struggle of rebuilding after each defeat. Good read.
