Dreams for the End of Summer

Rate this book
A Love Story from Ocean City, Maryland.

When Megan Tyler was a young girl, her father told her, “No one loves you as much as I do, but I sure hope one day someone does.”

Years after her father’s death, Megan Tyler is happily married and adores her stepdaughter, who Megan met a decade ago when Cassie was a student in Megan’s third grade class. But the past year has brought unsettling changes.

Megan’s husband Stewart has sold his successful business to a company that requires them to relocate across the country, and Cassie’s moved into her own apartment in nearby Washington DC.

With Stewart and Cassie already starting new lives in new places, Megan remains home to finish out the school year. But as summer begins, instead of joining Stewart in California, Megan decides to spend one last season at their little place in Ocean City, Maryland.

After a morning swim in the ocean, Megan meets Blake Pippinger, a surf patrol veteran everyone calls Pip, and she soon begins to believe it was Pip, all along, who her father was talking about.

From the first warm days of May until the cool shadows of September, Megan struggles to reconcile her loyalty to a love that’s fading with her intense feelings for a man she believes she was destined to be with. And when a hurricane bears down on the small coastal town, Meagan is caught between a new life with Pip or losing him to dreams of summer that could have been.

If you can't be at the beach, the next best experience is writing (or reading) about it.

I started out writing crime novels around the time I became a criminal attorney. Then wrote a romance (perhaps as an emotional antidote) after taking on divorce cases. A humorous mystery, set in Ocean City, Maryland where I spent summers as a kid and later got married, has popped up now and again.

So not all of my books are the same. Crossing genres is great fun--almost as much as riding waves.

Summer at the beach

Great story that was hard to put down. It keeps you wanting to find out what going to happen. I was always hoping Megan got what she wanted.

Very low rating for me - and just to be clear, I simply didn't like the story. I felt like I was slogging through the story the entire time. I just wanted Megan to grow a spine and make a decision. It's really unforgivable the way she treats her daughter, Cassie, in the end. I can't imagine a young person having to live with that scenario. And no, the entire book building how strong and vibrant and able Cassie is doesn't for one second justify putting her in the main character's wake of indecision and emotional cowardliness. Anyway, it's just me. Apparently, a LOT of other people like the story.

Hmmm... I kept reading this book because I liked the main character, Megan. However, the decisions she makes in this book become unbelievable. Why does she want to leave her husband for a young lifeguard? Why would she choose to live in a beach condo rather than her mansion in California? Finally, why would she fake her death so that all her loved ones would mourn her? Anyway, I still like Megan, but I feel that she could have made better choices.

I loved this from the first page. The story unfolded with twists I didn’t expect and. Loved the end. Best that it wasn’t a usual “40 something widow/divorced woman who inherits a inn/hotel etc & reconnects with old boyfriend “story!🤣

Wonderful book

I loved this book. It kept me on my toes and up late at night. I am familiar with Ocean City, Maryland, so parts of this book brought remembrances that added to my enjoyment. The characters became family and did not disappoint. I highly recommend "Dreams for the End of Summer". I am looking forward to reading more titles by Preston Pairo.

I loved this book because I can relate to the main character, Megan. Being a woman who at one time made the heart wrenching decision to divorce her husband of many years, I understand the emotional ups and downs of possibly making that decision. The story of Megan and Pip is sweet and so well written I felt like I was part of the story.

Very interesting book!

I enjoyed following the life of Megan. There are times when I am reading a book I can guess how it will end. This book is so well written I never knew how it would end.
