What do explosions, murder, and cryptocurrency have in common? You guessed it – Shelby Nichols.
Who knew that dabbling in cryptocurrency could be life-threatening? In a game of cat and mouse, it’s not always obvious who is chasing whom, especially when it involves a mind-reading soccer mom like Shelby Nichols.
It’s hard to fool a mind-reader, but that doesn’t mean finding a killer is easy, especially when the killer disappears into thin air. But threatening her family changes everything. Now, nothing will keep Shelby from finding the truth, and it soon becomes apparent that it’s never a good idea to mess with Shelby Nichols.
Solving crimes with sass, suspense, and a splash of the supernatural. Colleen Helme is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, best known for her fast-paced, laugh-out-loud Shelby Nichols Adventure Series, where cozy mystery meets a dash of the paranormal. With over 19 books in the series and several more in her Sand and Shadow and the Love, Loyalty and Larceny series, she’s built a world in which readers love to escape.
I have been a big fan of this series since the beginning. Who knew bombings and murder and mob bosses could be so much fun! This one was no exception. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy or even understand a book about cryptocurrency, but I shouldn't have worried. It all came together into what was another great book. Now I'm just waiting for the next one.
Wonderful, Amazing, Hilarious! Ties that Bind is an amazing, hilarious, and complex mystery that does not stop! It amazes me that Colleen Helme can keep coming up with such unique tales and get Shelby into and out of so much trouble, but she sure manages to keep the roller coaster of humor, terror and unique experiences coming for Shelby. If it wasn't for Shelby's laugh-out-loud experiences, I am not sure my heart could handle all the edge-of-your seat moments! Wow! Ties that Bind may be the most swoon worthy book of the series! If you are new to the series, it is not a romance; it is action, adventure, humor and mystery, but Oh, My! Like most fans I have a huge crush on one of the characters that make the series even more fun to read. It would be great without Ramos, but I hate to think of that possibility! Someone has stolen 100 million dollars in cryptocurrency and several million from Shelby's brother, yes, Shelby's brother, so we know she is going to be in thing up to her neck even though she barely knows what cryptocurrency is. Ramos has a bigger than usual job keeping her alive between this job, her work with the Dimples to find a murderer, and a request from help from a new friend that initiates a trip to Las Vagas and facing a terrifying nemesis. As always, her rides with Ramos, the love of her family and their newest family member, Coco, a rescue with cadaver experience who has brought joy into their lives, keep her going when there is too much going on.
As of late, I’ve been in reading slump suffering through one mediocre read after another. I was really concerned that I o lost my reading mojo but leave it to Colleen Helme to set me back to right with the latest installment of Shelby Nichols, “Ties That Bind.”
This time Shelby’s brother, Justin, is in town meeting with Chris. He is planning to open up a new Dental Office and move back home with his family. However, there is one small problem. Justin is keeping a secret and boy is it a big one. It seems he lost quite a bit of cryptocurrency via a con man. Yet, all is not lost because it seems Uncle Joey also lost a barrel load of cryptocurrency to the same conman and no one steals from a mob boss and survives.
This tale takes Shelby through a labyrinth of complicated scenarios with one involving a Las Vegas mob boss who promises trouble in the future. As we weave through the storyline, Shelby’s life is constantly at risk and injury seems to plague her in every situation. Luckily for her Ramos and even Dimples has her back.
I love the world of Shelby Nichols and this installment is no exception. Ms. Helme consistently delivers a great read, with great plots, colorful characters and snarky dialogue. I can’t wait for the next installment!
Shelby's life gets more complicated as the series goes on! This is book 16 in a highly readable series. You could read it as a standalone as the pertinent information is explained as you read but why would you want to miss out on all the fun of reading the whole series?! Considering the time scale of this book was only about a week an awful lot happens!! Great fun characters, lots of misadventure and mystery, and a cameo from Ella that links to another series by the author made the book un-put-down-able!! I read til late to know what happened next!! Thanks Colleen for another great story. You won't regret reading these books!
4.5 stars I always am excited when it's time for another Shelby adventure. This was particularly fun because of the crossovers with Ella St. John. I love seeing what we missed when reading her story, and I also love knowing how to fill in the blanks that Shelby is missing now. I look forward to more crossovers between these two series (even if I think Shelby will remain my favorite).
In this adventure, we get to meet Shelby's brother who is just as gifted as Shelby at landing himself in trouble. He's stepped in it, real good. And I really enjoyed watching him shift from doubting Shelby and her "premonitions" to counting on her. And, of course, his mess mixes him up with Uncle Joey, to keep things extra interesting. I love how now that we're 16 books in Shelby is so intertwined with Uncle Joey that she is basically family. How things have changed! And that definitely makes things a bit more complicated with her brother :)
Ramos definitely has his hands full keeping Shelby safe this time - there's the cryptocurrency doublecross with Uncle Joey and her brother, there's the problem with Ella St. James (if you read that series you may remember her calling Shelby for some help), and there's also a police investigation with Dimples. Somewhere in the middle of keeping Shelby alive (safe may be generous-- there was one or two moments I was severely holding my breath), Ramos and Shelby manage to flirt with the lines in their relationship just the right amount to keep her from crossing any lines but to keep us drooling after Ramos. I love that ultimately both Ramos and Shelby respect that line and won't cross it. She loves Chris and her family too much and he cares too much about her to put her in that position (I think).
This book had everything I've come to expect - plus maybe a bit more? We got some really fun glimpses of Ramos outside of his normal element with Uncle Joey that were particularly great. And Shelby scared me more than once.
The narration by Wendy Tremont King has become my expectation for Shelby -- she IS the voice I hear when I think of Shelby and I think I would be very disappointed to have anyone else narrating these books. I really enjoy her (even if I've given her a hard time on some of her accents) and love that I can easily listen at 2x speed. Can't wait for more!
I laughed, I cried (I didn't really cry), I cheered for Shelby!
I loved this book! It was really hard to put down and it had a ton of fun gems scattered throughout! I love how Colleen brings every character to life. This book is packed full of all kinds of mystery and action (as well as some STEAMY scenes with Ramos - *fans self*). I had several legit laugh-out-loud moments, a few where I had some real anxiety for Shelby, and many moments of pure HELL YEAH! I'm so excited for everyone to read Ties That Bind! I hope you love it as much as I do!
As always, Colleen Helmet provides another fantastic adventure in Ties that Bind, a Shelby Nichols story! I definitely loved that there was soooo much Ramos in this book. In my humble opinion, I can never get enough of Ramos!!!! This book was extremely educational as well teaching us more about cryptocurrency.
Thank you Colleen, always happy to read more of Shelby Nichols!!! And Wendy Tremont King, you are such an amazing narrator!!! You're a fantastic pair!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh what an adventure, explosions, guns, airplanes, near death experiences all over the place!!! Shelby lives an amazingly charmed life and I main point there is she is still alive lol Ramos is always nearby the save our Shelby. Manetto wonders how she finds so much trouble but seriously she juggles a family a mob boss and the police lol Shelby’s brother was an interesting new addition. I can’t wait for more
I love the adventures and the mysteries in each book. This one definitely did not disappoint. I loved it and had a hard time putting it down. I love the Shelby/Ramos dynamic ❤️ Can't wait for the next one!
Colleen Helme did it again! Ties That Bind may be the best Shelby Nichols book yet! Shelby gets into more trouble in this new adventure... And Ramos is there to help save the day! I love all the characters in these books. I love the scrapes Shelby gets into. This was an action packed book and I couldn't put it down! I can't wait for the next one!
I just love the Shelby series! All of them are fantastic & I look so forward to an upcoming release. The characters are lovable and I love the same ones are used repeatedly. Colleen Helme is a mastermind and I'll forever be a fan! Very happy ARC reader!
Several years ago I purchased the Carrots book. Recently I ran across another book in the series and decided I would read Carrots again and maybe one or two others. I just finished Ties That Bind, the sixteenth book in the series! I need more Shelby Nichols! The characters are great and I love how they interact! Shelby and Ramos make me swoon! Too bad she's a happily married family woman. Her life isn't dull though. Due to a shooting she can read minds. She gets into so much trouble! I spent some time thinking about what I liked about the stories. Unlike some books there are many story lines going at once. They move fast and you're caught up in them before you know it! So get the first one, then the second one, and enjoy!
I have read this series again. It has a way of getting into your life and you think of these characters as family, as crazy as it seems. I can’t remember her getting her PI license and so I feel like I missed something. I liked getting to know her brother although he’s a brat but what sibling isn’t? I love the relationship that Ramos and Shelby have. It’s getting crazy but they love each other and they would never let it get physical. I love the banter and teasing. I have a problem that I can’t get the book or Novella and it’s making me crazy. It’s probably where Shelby gets her PI license so if anyone knows how to get it please share. Until our next adventures….
I have read all of the Shelby Nichols series and this one is even more powerful than the others. With a deeper look into Shelby’s family and a close up of the world of finance and currency, desperate travel, some blunt life issues and as always racing against the clock, Shelby, Ramos and even Uncle Joey have their work cut out for them this time. Add in a wee bit of a crossover and this is Shelby Nichols adventure in surround sound and I loved every word of it. This is definitely a keeper for my collection.
Shelby Nichols is on the job again, for both her husband AND "Uncle" Joey --this book begins with a bang and that fast pace continues to the end. I loved it! All the usual characters are there plus Shelby's brother. And Ramos-- there has to be Ramos. Though this book could be a standalone, I love seeing the characters grow from the start. Crypto currency is at the heart of the story, which I found very interesting. The plot is well thought out, the pace is quick, and how Helme can make me tense one minute and laugh the next is great. I can hardly wait for the next book!
This was another great addition to this series. Somehow, it never gets old to see Shelby jumping from one disaster to the next. This book was interesting in particular because I actually learned a little bit about Crypto Currency (go figure).
I also want to say that I'm happy with where exactly Ms. Helme is stopping a certain relationship. As much as I love the UST, I've decided that I really don't want Shelby to blow up her life and I really do think it actually WOULD blow up everything.
I alternated between listening and reading and as usual, Wendy Tremont King knocked it out of the park. She has become the voice of this series to me.
Highly recommend this series. Can be read as standalone, but better if you read from the beginning. I really enjoyed this book. Lots of mysteries to work through. Ramos is a favorite. He can do no wrong. Her brother, however, I wanted to thump. I'm a little unsure about Forrester, the computer guy. His motivation seems murky. Shelby almost dies numerous times in this. Its action packed. There is also a scene involving a lizard that that me laughing. Told mostly from Shelby's POV. No cliffhanger, but some foreshadowing.
After 16 volumes it has just continued to get better. Love the connection between the characters especially Ramos and Shelby and Dimples but still her devotion to Chris. Life and its emotions are complicated and Colleen Helme seems to be able to weave these characters lives and their emotions and complex strengths and faults together and still tell a great story that doesn’t disappoint! My only complaint is that once again I read it too fast and now I’ll have to wait for the next one. Thanks for a great read!
The Shelby Nicholas series started in 2011. In this book we meet Justin, Shelby's brother. I love that even though she is attracted to Ramos, she is devoted to her husband, children, and dog.
This adventure deals with theft of cyber 'cash' and issues with greed vs demolishing a building safely.
There are guns, shooting, murder, attempted killing, explosions, bombs, and other violence. Her life sounds exhausting.
I like that the guys in her life wonder about her thought process. Sometimes in wonder and sometimes in horrified amazement.
Yea, as a guy this isn’t really my cup of tea but I’ve throughly enjoyed every ‘oh baby oh baby’. LOL As a true blooded sci-fi affection-ado and mystery action sans drama reader I was surprised when Carrots came up and I actually read it. Speed reading helps with everything except Shelby,.. she puts the pause and WTF moment in every one so far,.. actually looking forward to reading the last of these so I can get something fantastical to read,… new location on the fifth planet of sun.
With Colleen Helme writing it, I can always count on an entertaining experience when I open the book! Ever exciting, Shelby manages to get into scrapes that she’s not quite responsible for and her husband Chris can’t really blame her! But, oh, he sure can’t keep from hoping that she’d stop! And Ramos doesn’t help the situation! This one includes demolitions and bombs, kidnappings and international travel, oh fun!
This is just an outstanding story filled with intriguing characters that I just adore. The story is filled with intrigue, action, drama, escaping tricky situations, and avoiding bad guys out to silence Shelby. I loved every minute of this one. The entire series is exceptional with this one meeting my every expectation for excellence. It ends well, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Just an outstanding story.
We learn more about Shelby's family through brother Justin in this book. Ella visits Shelby's book which is fun to see other book characters come in between their books and get a little more depth to them. Ramos, going home with him, we get to see a bit of a new side. Miguel has some mental musings.... Could this be a future spin off? Lots going on, fun and interesting seeing Shelby get in and out of trouble! Recommend audio book also!
Oh Shelby! She gets into so many scrapes and near death experiences and yet always survives to conquer the next challenge and capture the bad guys in the process. This time things get a little more personal as her brother get involved in a cryptocurrency scam with a guy who has a penchant for bombs. This book moves along at a quick pace and grabs the reader right on in from the start.
This had everything: romance, funny, amazing charters, action ?and so much more. Shelby just can’t stay out of trouble no matter how much she tries. Now she sees her brother Justin and she knows something up but he won’t tell. Shelby is Shelby and trouble follows her everywhere. I know that once I start Colleen’s books it has to be on days off cause I never put her books down.
This series is one of the best, right up there with J D Robb. The characters grow throughout the series. The storyline has action, mystery and humor with a touch of romance. The writing is superb. Needs to really be read in sequence to get the full outline and intermingling of the storylines and characters. So good I've read the series from the beginning at least once or twice each year. Can't wait till the next book.
Further proof that if something can go wrong in Shelby's life, it will. How is she still alive?!?! I'm laughing as I write this, but it's with love. What can I say, I love this series. I thought I'd be over the tension between Ramos and Shelby, but I'm not. Yet. To be fair, she has more chemistry with him than with Chris, but don't murder me for saying that! Regardless, I'd love to see where we go next. ❤
If you enjoy a mystery with a touch of laugh out loud mishaps, a sexy good/bad boy, a kind hearted mob boss and a mind reading heroine then Shebly Nichols Series is a must. Colleen takes us into the world of Cypro Coins and cyber theft in Ties That Binds and has Shelby and Ramos going all over to solve the case and get back what was taken from Uncle Joey. Good clean fun. A must read
Not to be disappointed. I enjoy Shelby’s adventure as each book is different and still captures your attention to see what happens and how she’s will get out of all the stuff she gets into. I love the characters as well as the new ones that were introduced in this book and hope to hear more of them in the future. Look forward to the next book in series. Can’t wait to see what the author comes up with!
But I am starting to find the interest between Shelby and Ramos to be getting a little old. He deserves to find someone who makes him happy and Shelby needs to let him.
I do really like these books but this one took me much longer than normal to get through. I didn't like it as much as others in the series. Still look forward to reading more though!
