Once a month, for as long as they’d been friends, Lisa, Mindy, Ruby, and Tina gathered for Rom Com Movie Club night. Facial masks, nail polish, and wine could settle the world around them as they dished on movies that made them want to love—even if the premise of happily ever after seemed far-fetched.
Having been tossed around from home to home growing up, Lisa didn’t have much of an idea of what happily ever after was supposed to look like. Her friends had become her stable home, and their love was enough to carry her though day to day. But life had always thrown obstacles at her, she never considered it might throw a man her way, which would cause a rift with her best friend before her best friend’s wedding.
When things went bad, it usually started a trend, and Ryan was caught in that loop when he decided to return home to live with his parents until some other opportunity came his way. He had no idea that opportunity was going to come right at him when he followed his brother into the girly chaos that was Rom Com Movie Club night, and he fell head over heels for Lisa, in a clay facial mask and wet toenails.
Falling in love with her best friend’s soon to be brother-in-law wasn’t ideal timing, but when had timing ever been on Lisa’s side? Now with a man who loves her and a best friend who assumes Lisa’s out to ruin her wedding, Lisa must decide which happily ever after she wants. The one with the man and the fairy tale ending, or the love of a friend who has been there for her whenever she needed her.
Bestselling Author Bernadette Marie writes contemporary romances and believes in Happily Ever After. The married mother of five believes in love at first sight, quick love, and second chances. An avid martial artist, Bernadette Marie is a certified instructor and holds a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. She loves Tai Chi, traveling to Disney parks, and having lunch with friends. When not writing, or running her own publishing house, Bernadette is probably immersed in a Rom Com, from which she will often quote one liners.
The ROM Com Movie Club, Book 1 by Bernadette Marie Contemporary romance. Lisa, Mindy, Tina and Ruby have been friends since college. They get together each month for a night of romantic comedy movies and self care. Having the women’s friendship is important to Lisa since her background lacks any family stability. Ryan returns to his parents home after leaving his job to make decisions on his future. He decides to go with his brother crashing the girls night fun, and ends up falling for Lisa with a face mask, college tshirt and all. Now they need to figure out all the little details of a new relationship and what they want their future to look like.
Of course, we know there will be steam and conflicts as the two and their friends maneuver work, relationships, jealousy, weddings and past issues. Expect some drama and misunderstandings as in any rom com. Predictable. Several well known movies are listed and are included in a cute twist at the end. I personally don’t care for yelling and arguing so the hero here wasn’t a favorite. He does pull it off in the end with the aforementioned twist. I look forward to reading more about the other friends in the remaining two book in the series. 3.5
Close friends Lisa, Mindy, Ruby, and Tina have a monthly Rom Com Movie Club they always plan for. With Tina the first of the friends getting ready to walk down the aisle, Lisa meets Ryan who is the brother of Tina's fiancée. Ryan is intrigued by Lisa and they find themselves dating but if it doesn't work could it destroy the friendship she has with Tina or could it be the best thing that ever happened to her?
I really enjoyed this one. As a movie buff this one checked my list of books to read. I also am a big fan of food especially food blogger's as plot line and this had it as well. Really entertaining and I think it had a very honest feel for the couples and characters who look out for one another. Entertaining story, look forward to the next book.
Ruby, Lisa, Tina, and Mindy have gathered once a month since college for Rom Com movie nights. Their informal club is an opportunity to get together to unwind, share some laughs and de-stress from their everyday lives. On Rom Com Movie Club nights, the four girls use face masks, paint their nails, drink wine, and watch their favorite romantic comedies. Of course, they all want their happily ever after but for most of them it seems to be an unattainable dream.
Then Tina becomes engaged to be married and a chance encounter has Lisa falling head over heels for the brother of her best friend, Tina’s fiancée. Tina does not take it well and feels Lisa is going to ruin her wedding. Lisa is devastated and the friendships she has with the girls feels as though it is in jeopardy. Lisa feels as though these girls are her family so it takes an emotional toll on her to think she may lose them. Now Lisa feels that she must give up her happily ever after or risk losing her best friend.
This was a cute book about friendship and love. The girls had an unbreakable bond until romance was involved and then their friendship was put to the test. A misunderstanding between friends almost came between Tina and Lisa and came close to breaking up the friendship between the four girls. Thankfully, Mindy and Ruby were not willing to let something so trivial come between them. I loved all the characters and the bond they had. I loved the banter the girls had between them and could not help but laugh out loud when there was some name calling involved between them. Knowing it was all meant in a loving and fun way they laughed as well. I enjoyed the character of Ryan and how he fell in love with Lisa, seeing past the wet nails and face mask to see her true beauty.
This isn't the first book I've read by the author. The Rom Com Movie Club is amazing. The book had me hooked from the beginning and I loved it. I never want the love for Ryan and Lisa to stop.
Lisa has been in several foster homes and no one has really stuck by her side. Her friends are the only ones she can really count on. Then her friend's soon to be brother-in-law comes walking into her condo. Things start to escalate from there, but then she gets hurt. She isn't allowed to see him anymore. The quote I chose for Lisa is: “I’m not creeped out. Aaron is a stellar guy, or we wouldn’t be letting Tina marry him. I’m going to give you credit for being a stellar guy too, since you share genes with him. But, if you prove me wrong, I’ll wreck their marriage.”
Ryan is back home and he isn't sure what he's going to do. When he meets Lisa he decides that he wants to befriend her. He then finds that he can't keep away from her. He wants to stick around and let Lisa know he's not going anywhere. The quote I chose for Ryan is: “Please make sure she knows it’s your decision. Because what I get from her is that other people have always made the decision who is part of her life. They come and go. I don’t want to go. You make that clear.”
Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.
The Rom Com Movie Club (The Rom Com Movie Club Book 1) by Bernadette Marie. This is such a fun rom com. Lisa, Mindy, Terry and Ruby have been friends for a long time, Mindy Terry and Ruby met in college and they met Lisa working at a restaurant. As a movie buff I really found this book interesting and unique. I have read several books by this author and I was very excited to start a new one. I mean honestly though who doesn’t love a good Rom com. Needless to say I was not disappointed. Once again our author gives us amazing well developed characters, and a fascinating plot that leaves me wanting more. The characters are very relatable and realistic, and the story as a whole is so amazing that you almost feel like your in the story. So whether your looking for a new story to try it your like me and love a good rom com then make sure you run and pick up this one today.
I loved this book. Just the title of this book pulled me in, but let me tell you it was more than I hoped. There was a cute meet, misunderstandings, friends, family, and insta-love. Lisa and Ryan are perfect. The whole cast of characters is just wonderful. The only thing that I am upset about is that I have to wait a month before the next one comes out. If you love Rom Coms this book is for you.
Prepare yourself to long for the days of slumber parties with friends and to even begin planning to bring them back as the author has done an excellent job capturing the fun, the drama and the comfort of being surrounded by friends sharing the things you love.
What to expect:
Fast to Love romance
Found Family
Pop culture references
Closed door romance
PTSD/Anxiety brought on by foster care
Pros:
It is beautiful to see an established “found family” working through beautiful happy moments and the scary hurtful ones. I appreciate that all the girls have distinct personalities and bring something unique to the group while also having overlapping qualities so it doesn’t feel too unrealistic. You learn just enough that you want to get to each of their stories to learn more.
I like that the guys in the story so far aren’t shown as perfect individuals sweeping in to save the day. They have difficulties, they sometimes mess up and they sometimes do really great without knowing they are. They give a great example of what a partner could realistically be.
Cons:
While I understand that the feelings shown by Lisa are very realistic I really feel someone needed to stop and tell her that love isn’t about what a person deserves, it isn’t something that you should be trying to earn it is a gift, freely given and that is why it is so rare and meant to be cherished. Everyone telling her she is worthy or deserving of love is both right and wrong. She can be worth everything and she can deserve it but that isn’t how love works. Love isn’t that logical and moreover, until she feels worthy of being loved she won’t be able to accept it and set aside her fears.
I feel that the story of Courtney was rather rushed. We hear of her and she is the reason Ryan is home but to bring her in for one minute to screw things up and not resolve the issues seemed like an excuse for a fight. I would have liked to have had her stick around so Lisa could confront her. Or for the club to have escorted her out in some way that embarrassed Courtney and no one else. I like that Ryan and Lisa eventually talked it out but I think it could have been healing and therapeutic for Lisa to have gotten to say something and maybe even to have stood up for Ryan who was technically assaulted.
This book has everything I want in a sweet romance! The core group of girlfriends is so amazing and I love reading about their relationship and how they are navigating changes in their friend group as one gets married and another develops a serious relationship. The Rom Com movie club is so sweet and fun. The characters are real, sometimes you hate them and sometimes you love them. There is just enough kissing and steam between Ryan and Lisa to make your heart race but it is a closed door romance so no actual intimacy is described. This book is a wonderful warm hug! I can't wait to continue this series and stay with these characters.
Ok, this was such a cute read! Five stars because it gave me all the feels. And all the nods to all the classic rom-com just made it so fun. The characters were so loveable and relatable.
Lisa loves watching rom-coms because of the happy endings. She is sure she will never get one of those so she lives through them vicariously. Until she meets Ryan Blair. And then falls head over heels......fast. As she tries to enjoy this fast-moving relationship while trying not to upstage her friend's wedding, she wonders if this will finally be the path to her happy ending.
So... this is a highly rated book that absolutely did not work for me.
The concept sounded cute. I was looking forward to reading this. But instead this book frustrated me a lot.
This is a romance, yes, but it's also basically insta-love. Our leads meet, for a few minutes, and fall in love. He's instantly like "cook for me" and she's like: yes of course... Then the guy decides that showing up at her house the next morning is a good idea?
“Just show up at their house?”
“Well, yes. Is that creepy? I didn’t think about it being creepy. I’m not trying to be.”
At least he aknowledges it's kinda creepy, even if she apparently doesn't think so? Don't show up at people's houses in the early morning unannounced, especially not if you don't know them?
And despite them not knowing each other, her friends are just cheering her on, like of course he cares for you based on you because you were in pajamas so he can't be all about looks. When literally all he knows about her is her looks?? They haven't had a proper conversation, so he knows nothing about her?
So, you were in pajamas, and not sexy ones. Your hair was a mess and you still had green on your forehead. A man doesn’t move in on that unless he’s connected to what’s inside.
It's the whole "love-at-first sight"/ fate thing, I guess? They're just that made for each other. He's her prince charming.
“I know I don’t know you well, but I’m very sure you treated her like a princess.”
Ryan blinked hard. Seriously, he’d given off those kinds of vibes?
This is during one of their first conversations. He had not been giving off those vibes, unless showing up at someone's house when you barely know them is how people treat princesses?
Their romance is FAST. They go from meeting, to sleeping together to moving in in about a week and a half, I guess? He mentions marrying her more than once in their first week, because why would you want to get to know anyone before marrying them, I guess.
“I mean them. I don’t just say them.” He eased her toward him. “I love you, Lisa. I love you.”
It's been a WEEK. What do you mean you don't just say them? You barely know her.
So, our male lead is kind of a creep. We have the earlier showing up at her house and lovely things like: he’d have called her and sat in the stunned silence so she could hear him breathe.
He was gonna just sit there breathing into the phone without saying anything???? And he's kinda showing some control red flags too, but that's what romance is in this book, because the one other couple tracks each other's location constantly. I feel as if I must admit, I don’t think I want you going out looking like that.
He has barely known her for a week and he's already talking about her clothes? "Aaron pulled his phone from his pocket and searched for her location.
“She’s at Lisa’s.”
Ryan crinkled up his nose. “You can follow her?”
“Yeah.”
“Next level commitment,” Ryan contemplated."
Is tracking someone's location next level commitment? Or is it just kinda stalker-ish? I guess since they're both doing it it's romantic or something?
Then there's our female lead, who is VERY open about her issues. “Because everyone in my life gets tired of me. I’m used to it.” She just tells him straight up, which honestly, I admire. But then she's also telling him all these things about herself, without prompting and: Lisa hated talking about it,and she couldn’t believe she’d let Ryan pull that out of her. "I like this charater who has no family because she's so similar to me, and I really relate." "What about your family?" "I can't believe he made me tell him about not having a family." -_- you already did though???
She does also get kinda manipulative with them later on: “You’re thinking about it too hard. You don’t want to be that linked to me, do you?” Lisa’s lips quivered. This is after asking him to move in with her after like a week. And he is already considering he just has to say yes because saying no would be akin to "leaving" her.
Telling her no, or that they’d think about it was the equivalent to him leaving, right?
But issues aren't logical, and I know that. So I'm not saying she's wrong for feeling how she does, I'm just saying she's wrong to use her feelings in that way.
She's also constantly drinking/drunk/hangover in this book, which according to her isn't a regular thing, but really, it does kinda come across as if she has a problem there too. “I feel as if I need to make clear the fact that I don’t drink,” she laughed wiping the foam from her lip. “I mean, I drink wine at Rom Com Movie Club, and I might have a beer here or there, but this week, I’ve had more hangovers than I have in years.” He sure is a good influence on her, giving her more hangovers than she had in years.
And the family stuff. Her last foster family is one she's still in contact with, who love her and wanted to adopt her but couldn't because of circumstances. They talk monthly despite living in different countries, but our female lead just... doesn't actually count that? I live halfway across the world from my family and I don't talk to them monthly... Guess I'm family-less too?
And she has some super close friends who are like her family and have been with her for ten years, but she keeps talking about how everyone leaves her, to their faces. And they're like "we didn't and we won't" and it's just ... ignored. And I get being scared of people leaving or not actually liking you, I do. But somehow the way she handles it comes across as dismissive and if the people who do love her/ are with her don't actually matter that much to her. She needs therapy because she's not handling her issues well, and I don't buy the whole "love fixes her" thing we have going on here.
Then there's the friends. The narration is kind of really rude/dismissive about Mindy the whole time, who is kinda shy? It annoyed me. The best friend is being bridezilla. Her future husband/brother of the male lead is... something alright. He talks about female lead not having much stability in her life right away and says things like she used rom-coms as therapy, which I guess could have been a joke but really isn't funny when you know someone has anxiety problems.
There are enough grammar issues and typos that I had to look up if this was self-published. Which it isn't but also it's the author's own publishing company, so maybe it kinda is? I think she’d being kind *she's And though, in their situation, he worried about her. what? She couldn’t help but hold in her humor about hold in her humor? Her laughter maybe? What? Sure, things were bad when the anxiety kicked it, but years ago, her episodes were new to her friends, but it didn’t stop them from being there for her. But... but... it doesn't link together like that? He was ginning *grinning but he couldn’t help but fight the attraction he had for her. Except he's not fighting it at all? Did you mean he couldn't fight the attraction?
And then there's the numerous inconsistencies. Let's start with a minor one: favourite films. Our characters talk about their favourite films several times. The films are always different, and just one fitting to the current situation. Extra points for when male lead had to "try to remember" what his favourite film was about.
And then the bigger thing that drove me nuts. Male lead is just out of a serious relationship. Or maybe not just? The time period seems to shift from a few weeks to a year, and back again. When Courtney had broken his heart, and his spirit, he couldn’t have imagined that home would have brought him peace. Sure, it had only been a few weeks, but already he felt whole again. So a few weeks and already all-in into the next girl huh? But then later on: I should have come home a year ago,” [...]
“Was that when you broke up with…”
“Courtney,” he finished her thought. “Yeah.” Was it weeks or was it a year? His aunts don't know they've broken up, despite having talked to his mum months ago, so I guess it wasn't a year? Maybe it was months? When Courtney told him he was a waste of time, he didn’t think this would be his life a few months later. And then a bit later we're back to a few weeks: I caught her cheating on me. I moved out a few weeks later and moved home. WHAT IS IT??? THIS IS BROUGHT UP SO MANY TIMES BUT THE TIMELINE CHANGES SO MUCH????
So we have insta-love with no real development, unlikeable characters, no real plot, grammar issues and typos and many inconsistencies. This was a very frustrating read.
Rom Com Movie Club is a series about four longtime friends who meet monthly to watch rom coms and have a girls night in. This first book features Lisa. Lisa is an orphan who has been left behind many times. This group of friends are the only ones who have stuck with her. Lisa definitely has a fear of abandonment. One of the group, Tina, is engaged. During one of their club nights Tina’s fiancé and his brother bring some cookies to the girls. Lisa and the brother, Ryan, hit it off immediately. Tina reacts really badly so Lisa and Ryan try to stay friends instead of taking it to the next level. I loved Lisa and Ryan together as a couple. Ryan was such a great match for Lisa and proved time and time again that he was in it for the long haul. The supporting cast was great and I can’t wait to read Mindy and Ruby’s stories. The book ends with a super sweet HEA. I highly recommend The Rom Com Movie Club to anyone who likes contemporary romance.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job with the female voices. Her voices for the make characters were not as great but I find this is often the case.
I have been a fan of Bernadette Marie for a while now. So I was very excited to start another book by her. Once again, I was not disappointed. It is what I have come to know and love from her. A book with wonderful characters and fantastic plot line and me not wanting the story to end. I always feel like I am one of the characters in the story when I read her stories. I absolutely loved this story. Lisa, Mindy, Ruby and Tina are the types of friends I have wanted for myself but have never found. They are the friends that get together once a month to celebrate friendship and watch a romantic comedy. Their night is full of traditions - starting with wearing a baggy college sweatshirt and pretending it is the sleepovers they loved as teenagers. The biggest tradition of all is the searching for the happily ever after through film. This time however, things begin to go a little sideways and their friendships are tested. Lisa has not exactly believed in happy endings, but she loves the idea of them. Tina is getting married and stressed out beyond belief. She is venting to Lisa about how she is sharing her future in-laws house and how that house is growing by one more. Her fiancee’s brother is moving home. Lisa asked to see a picture of Ryan and sparks instantly flew. When they met the chemistry was unimaginable. However, it also tested the waters of the girls’ friendship. The last think Lisa wants to do is ruin Tina’s wedding, but should she have to walk away from her happily ever after? Or will Tina come around and see how much happiness and love Ryan and Lisa have for one another. I definitely love this story and the characters. I cannot recommend this story enough to those that love a good comfort of a story about friendship and love.
An enjoyable and engaging contemporary romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Lisa, Mindy, Ruby, and Tina gather once a month for a ‘Rom Com Movie Club’ night, and I loved each of these likeable and relatable characters, and their friendship really came across in the narrative. Lisa didn’t have a stable home growing up and her friends have become her family, but she still didn’t really know what a happily ever after looked liked, only in the films they watched. Although Lisa is used to having obstacles thrown at her, she never imagined that by finding the man of her dreams, it would cause a rift with her best friend. Meanwhile Ryan had returned home to live with his parents whilst looking for his next opportunity. However, he never expected that following his brother, and joining in with his future sister in laws girly ‘Rom Com Movie Club’ night, that he would fall head over heels for Lisa. Although it’s not the best timing for falling in love with her best friend’s soon to be brother in law, just before the wedding, Lisa is surprised when her friend assumes that Lisa is out to ruin her wedding. Having fallen in love with a man who loves her back, Lisa must choose between her fairy tale ending, or her friend who has always been there whenever needed. This was a heartwarming and sweet romance, and I loved the chemistry between Lisa and Ryan. However, it was also a story about friendship, and I loved the banter and the dynamic between the four girls. I look forward to the other’s getting their own stories and hopefully HEA’s in the rest of the series!
I LOVED this book so much.....with my whole heart....this book was so much fun, laugh, romance, tears and a bit of wedding and family drama....adding a mix of rom com movies.
Four friends...Tina, Lisa, Ruby and Mindy are thick as thieves and their friendship is so much more than friendship...they are like "Family". Every month each of the ladies hosts a rom com movie night with all the fixings...movie, pedicures, face masks.......and a impromptu drop in by Aaron, Tina's fiancee, and tag-a-long Ryan, this is where Ryan meets Lisa for the first time. Lisa and Ryan have instant sparks...but Lisa is more hesitant. Her past leads her to be cautious and self doubting....but Lisa takes the leap with Ryan... but Tina is planning the wedding of her dreams with her fiancee, Aaron, nothing Tina wants more is no issues nor drama nor anyone taking her wedding thunder down during the countdown the upcoming nuptials. Will Lisa be able to let go of the past to move forward with Ryan and will Lisa and Ryan keep on simmer while their friends are heading down the aisle...
This book is truly fantastic. The story line I loved dearly and flowed so easily..this book was hard to put down....and I love all the rom com movies that are in the book because I watched them all too!! If you love a good romantic comedy story....definitely pick up this book....truly fantastic!
I am so looking forward to the next books in this series.
Lisa, Mindy, Ruby, and Tina have been friends since college. Although Lisa didn't actually attend college, she met the other girls while working at the coffee shop the others were at to study. The girls adopted Lisa into their lives, and they became an instant chosen family. Every month they gather together for a Rom Com movie night of food, face masks, and toe nail polish. On Lisa's night, Lisa meets Tina's soon to be brother-in-law, Ryan, and is instantly attracted to him. Tina, in the throes of wedding madness, tells Lisa that under no circumstance is she ok with her dating Ryan. While the other girls all try to help even out Tina's wedding mania, Ryan pursues a relationship with Lisa. Can Lisa find a way to balance her love for Ryan and not get caught up with comparing their love to a Rom Com? Can Tina see that her friend's happiness is worth more than her feelings?
Wow. What a great first book to a series! Each character was well written and all relatable. The author did a fantastic job of describing anxiety and how it affects those who suffer from it. The girls' relationships with each other are something that everyone should have. Love that is deep and willing to tell the truth even when it hurts. People in their corner, cheering them on but pulling them back from the crazy ledge. I am really looking forward to reading about the other girls finding love!
5 Stars The Rom Com Movie Club (The Rom Com Movie Club Book 1) by Bernadette Marie
The Rom Com Movie Club is the first book in The Rom Com Movie Club Series and is a wonderfully written Contemporary Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. I loved absolutely everything about this book from the amazing characters that are relatable, fully developed and real to the storyline that flowed so well that you feel like you are right there with them. I found myself chuckling to being a bit sad as this story has it all from drama, humor and lots of bantering. This is Lisa and Ryan’s story, she’s used to being tossed around has growing up in foster care she didn’t have the best idea of what happily ever after really is. Then there’s Ryan and he’s moved home and staying with his parents until something comes along Lisa and three of her friends get together once a month for Rom com movie club where they each get facial and watch a rom com amongst other things. These two definitely have the chemistry and attraction but can they have a happily ever after ? I highly recommend reading this book and I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
The Rom Com Movie Club. Just the name inspires fun and good feelings. I wonder when I should start my own club. Bernadette has of course hit the nail on the head with this new delightful Rom Com series. It is so easy to get lost in this tale and before you know it you have come to the end.
It is also told in dual POV which is my favourite way to tell a story. There is insta love but it’s done so well that it doesn’t matter in this story when you know you know not that it bothers me anyway but just saying. Opposites definitely attract in this tale.
When he sees her in the delightful facial mask and pretty polish on her toes, he realises she is the one for him and the fun begins.
I was worried about her best friend I mean who thinks she is out to ruin her wedding just because she has found a man. Ok so he is her brother-in-law to be but seriously! Really, I did want to smack her for a minute or two.
I am excited to see where this series goes. I anticipate more fun, a lot steamy and some clever wit.
I love this book so much! Huge page turner for me and I couldn’t put it down. I’ve been in a reading slump and this was the book to pull me out of it! 😍😍 The connection Lisa has with her group of friends is absolutely AMAZING. The way they’re always looking out for each other and being their for one another is simply heart warming. Lisa had a rough child hood growing up. She didn’t have the family a lot of kids have. She was in and out of foster homes. Until one day as an adult, she met this group of 3 girls and they were inseparable ever since. You don’t see friendships as great as theirs and I adored every page I read. Then Lisa meets Ryan and it’s love at first sight! Lisa doesn’t think she deserves love and she thinks everyone is going to leave her, but Ryan makes it a point to make her BELIEVE she deserves everything good in life. It’s a really good book and I can’t wait for the second book to come out!!! I’ll be counting down the days. Highly recommend everyone to read this if you love a good rom com 😉
Ok, please excuse the fan girl in me-but you need to read this book right now! It was flipping amazing from start to finish I could not put this one down, it engaged me and captivated me! Perfect read!
This book was realistic in many ways. I know I love my romance books, and how girls meet guys, and live happily ever after, No one ever talks about them in between! In this book, Ryan and Lisa and have the perfect match. But to stay together there are many obstacles, characters, and drama they have to fight against! Sure it would be easier to quit, but when you have something sooo good is it not worth fighting for? The book really spoke to me, and the characters sucked me in! This quickly became a new favorite for me!
I truly loved this book. And again very much a high recommendation from myself and you need to read this book sooner than later! Definitely a well worth reading of a book and author!
This book was a true delight to read. A fun, entertaining romp through the rom com’s as we follow Lisa and Ryan’s relationship. Oh, the chemistry is bubbling, the trouble is brewing and the laughs are coming. Most people who have been in relationships can relate to this romance. I found the characters relatable. It kind of felt like Tina & Aaron were the back story. I love Ryan and Lisa. Their story shows how they have to work to make love work. All the references to the Rom Com movies are terrific. We needed this book. The writing is full of light humor, contemporary, and just plain entertaining. This author writes in a tone that makes the story feel real, like you are there and these could be your friends. I can’t wait for book two. A definite favorite of mine.
I enjoyed this story. The story has a wonderful underlying tale with the Rom Com nights. Plus all the movie themed bits snuck in here. The characters are good. The four women have a wonderful story of getting together and being besties through everything. Then enter the men in their lives. Ryan is impulsive and quick to acknowledge his “like” upon meeting Lisa. Neither party was at their “best” upon first meeting which is good. Their tale is filled with best friends, misunderstandings and inner turmoil. They have highs and lows which make the storyline move along at a quick pace. I laughed and even teared up a time or two.
Overall this is a charmingly wonderful tale of friendship and overcoming adversity. I look forward to more in this series.
I absolutely adored Ryan and Lisa’s story. The instant connection, the tension, the supporting characters, the way everything just MESHED so perfectly.
I can honestly say I loved every aspect of this book. Ryan and Lisa’s instant love, even though she was less than presentable when they met, their hardships with Tina and Aaron during their wedding, the friendship the girls found. All of it just makes this wonderful story about love and friendship and instant connections.
I just had such a great time reading this wonderful book that I binged it in a day! It left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Filled with wonderful characters, a fantastic storyline and fun witty moments it is a feel good book you just have to read! I so can't wait for more. I want a Rom Com Movie Club of my own!!!! This book brings us the story of Lisa and Ryan whose attraction and more importantly connection is immediate and so strong. With emotional scars to deal with and drama from friends it is a captivating ride to a happy ending.
This was such a cute read! It was quick paced, and the characters were extremely lovable. It felt like I flew through this one. I loved the witty banter between the girls, and how fiercely they fight for and love each other. I loved the romance between Ryan and Lisa, it was extremely sweet. I cried a few times, and it was very emotional to me. I'm very glad I picked this one up and I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
This book was so quirky to me. I enjoyed every part of it. I love all how all the author referenced rom coms throughout the book. Once I started I could not stop reading it. Definitely will be reading the rest of this series. I highly recommend this book.
Lisa had never had a sleepover so her and her friends do what they call “the monthly romcom movie club” where they all get together and watch a romcom. Tina is getting married and is one of Lisa’s best friends, she is the first one to arrive for movie club. Tina is telling Lisa about wedding stuff and says that her brother in law is now moving in with everyone at Tina’s mother in law’s house. Tina shows a picture of her brother in law to Lisa, of course she’s swooning over him. While Lisa is swooning over a picture of this guy, Mindy and and Ruby show up for movie club. Aaron is Tina’s fiancé, and Ryan is Aaron’s brother. They are hanging out in the garage at their parents house thinking of what to do for the bachelor party. Aaron doesn’t want to do any of the typical things. He suggests axe throwing, or golf cart racing, something fun. Aaron ends up showing a picture of the girls to Ryan, and He is stuck looking at Lisa. That’s when mom walks in with a box of cookies and tells the guys they need to deliver it over to movie club. While the ladies are in face masks watching the movie, all of a sudden the doorbell rings. But Lisa made home made pizzas, Ruby asks if Lisa hired a stripper and they all laugh. Lisa looks out the peep hole. It’s Ryan and Aaron with the box of cookies Tina forgot. Mindy and Tina run down the hall to the bathroom to wash off their face masks. Ruby doesn’t care, she opens the door for the guys while her and Lisa are still in their face masks. Aaron asks Lisa to show Ryan her apartment. She gives him the tour of her small apartment and tells him that she’s a YouTube blogger for her job. Lisa is a good blogger and got an award for it. Ryan asks Lisa to show him what she does for work. So he sets a date for Sunday for her to cook for him and she can blog it. After the guys crash movie night Aaron tells Ryan it’s time to go so the girls can enjoy their night. Lisa thinks nothing of the date, nothing has been long term for her, except her girlfriends. She worked at a coffee shop near campus when Mindy, Ruby, and Tina were attending school. They pulled her into their friend group and kept her around. They traveled places they had seen in their romcom movie nights to go try different places to eat. Romcom night was over, the ladies tidied up Lisa’s apartment before leaving. Lisa wakes up the next day with a wine hang over, and someone is knocking on her door, on a Sunday? Ryan he shows up with two coffees and a bag in his hands. Lisa invites him into her apartment. Ryan couldn’t wait a week to Lisa. They both chat for twenty minutes then Ryan leaves. Lisa was good at meeting people, she had been doing it all her life when she was bounced from one foster family to another. Lisa picks up her phone to go through food options and decides to text Ryan to see if he is allergic to any foods, and they end up bantering back and forth and then Ryan calls. He asks Lisa to a baseball game on Tuesday! She says yes and tells him to be there at noon and she will have lunch ready before the game.
Book Summary: Lisa is hosting the traditional rom-com movie club night at her apartment where her 3 best friends join her for the festivities one night. As they settle down to begin, there is a knocking on her door and since all members and food and drinks are accounted for there is some unease approaching to unlock the door. However, all is good when Lisa opens the door to see Tina’s fiance, Aaron with a box of forgotten cookies. What’s not so good is the man next to Aaron. Ryan, Aaron’s brother, and Tina’s future brother-in-law, also Lisa’s perfect man whom she had just seen through her friend’s phone upon her arrival that night. And great she had pajamas and a face mask on too. Perfect. Being back home after his recent break up with his ex-gf and losing his job, Ryan is looking forward to getting his career back on track and looking for a place of his own. When he accompanies his brother Aaron to drop off the forgotten cookies for the Rom-Com Movie Club that his future sister-in-law belongs to he can’t help himself from crashing the slumber party. Especially when the photos his brother showed him prior to their adventure did not do them justice, especially Lisa. He’s not looking for something serious so when he asks Lisa out and Lisa accepts will they both be able to keep saying that they’re not dating and are just hanging out?

Review:
I really loved reading through this story and had the whole series been available I know I probably would have binge-read it all. What a great idea for a story as well for life goals to have a sisterhood where once a month you dedicate to some bonding, good food and drinks, self-pampering, and good old romantic comedies. The story moved well and at times I didn’t realize I already was at chapter 20 when I thought I was on chapter 5 with the number of cute moments between Ryan and Lisa and the banter between the friend's upcoming nuptials drama. Though their relationship was moving quickly I found it to be one of those stories where they knew there was a connection so no need to deny it now where they disagreed was where the fun began for these two as they each have gone through their own hardships in life and one is back in town and possibly not staying and then one is there and ready to gain some more stability in her life. Since this was the first book in the series I have to say I can’t wait for what’s next. Also, can we get a novella/prequel for Tina and Aaron I’m sure there’s a story there too lol, especially with the ladies of the Rom-Com Movie Club have got your back.
Her best friend’s getting married. She should be happy for her. But she’s a broken soul trying to find her way through life. He’s the brother of the groom, and he can’t take his eyes off her. The Rom-Com Movie Club was an entertaining and fun book to read. It’s quirky, full of humor, happiness, sadness, and some tears. The author makes you feel it as if you were the character. Well some feelings. The Bridezilla best friend, yeah I didn’t feel that, but mostly the things everyone else went through yeah. Lisa is a lost soul, who doesn’t really know what true love is. Growing up in the foster system she moved constantly and as well as had a new family, it became easier to be alone. And it worked for sometime till she met the 3 women who have since become her family. Best friends who meet once a month to have a rom-com movie/sleepover. What happens when someone enters her life that doesn’t want to leave? Ryan just moved home and his brother is getting married. Jilted on more than one occasion, the hopeless romantic in Ryan hasn’t given up just yet. When he meets Lisa for the first time, he knows she’s special. He can’t keep his eyes off her, but he’s been warned to stay away. Now that he can. Will Ryan heed the warning to stay away? Will Lisa let him in? These two have been through some things, things that could keep them together or tear them apart. The character growth that is written throughout for Lisa and even maybe for the bride to be Bridzilla. It’s phenomenal what the author did with these characters. I feel maybe another story for these friends now that Lisa’s brother is moving home. I can only hope. Till then check this book out!
Kind of cute, pretty silly, sort of romantic, a bit sad, mostly heartwarming - and an overall fun and feel good romcom.
Best friends Lisa, Ruby, Mindy and Tina enjoy a monthly rom com movie night, complete with face masks and all of the classic romcoms. As Tina’s wedding approaches, her fiance and his brother, Ryan, who has just moved home to Denver, make a surprise visit to movie club. Ryan and Lisa have some instant attraction at this first meeting, even with the remnants of a green face mask on Lisa’s face; but Tina does not want them to be a new romance that detracts from her wedding. The bridezilla drama is annoying! And so many aspects of the story scream of immaturity! But there’s a fast track of a fun romance that keeps things interesting. It’s too fast and too easy, but it’s fiction. There’s some chemistry and spice (not overly detailed.) The close friendship support is really beautiful. And there is some good exploration of Lisa’s issues that stem from a life in foster care, including talk of how she deals with anxiety and uses journaling, therapy, and connection with one family that showed her true love to keep her grounded. The story takes some detours, but it winds up as expected with one friend married and another well on her way.
Lots of mentions of classic 80’s and 90’s romcom movies might make this fun for romcom movie fanatics. The story itself was a little bit hit and miss. Some parts are great, but some aspects are really annoying and far fetched. Overall it all came together okay for me in the end. Maybe more of a 3.5⭐️ for me, but I’m giving it 4⭐️ because everything turns out well with a heartfelt HEA.
