All Mum's The Word Books can be read as Standalones.
She doesn't hear me…
And her ears aren't the problem, not anymore. I can feel Olallie everywhere, the minute she walks through the halls, looking like a lost beauty queen contestant. A loud static rumbles through my chest, and it makes me angry; a stranger can make me react, make me pause. Especially when the person is her, a tiny angel who's lost her wings.
I'll be the first to steal away her silence. One day the throne will be mine. If I play my cards right, her daddy might hand over the keys to the kingdom. Marrying the corrupt king's daughter will be my favorite torture. Till we both shall live in chaotic love and ruthless harmony.
He should have stayed away from me.
I wasn't the angel everyone claimed me to be. There wasn't a halo hovering above my head. Even true love creates scars so deep you have to rip your heart apart to mend. He didn't get the picture, and I wasn't in the mood to make him believe.
But most things in my life don't go as planned; I never stood a chance. Not when Lawson came in like a fierce storm so damaging; it could only be him who bowed.

I, too, was confused with the flow of this book. I was always lost as to who I was reading about. When and where? The story and characters had me reading on. Give it a try. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
The characters I enjoyed, but the book was hard to read. It needs better transitions and or more details to help the reader know that a change has occurred. At one point in the book it states Olallie left the hospital then jumps completely into a conversation but doesn’t explain how she got to have this conversation, who it’s with (though the reader will figure it out due to the content of conversation), or what had this conversation occur now. There are many other times like what caused the Half brother to get beat-up then and there. Again there were issues with the transitions and timeline. The time lines throughout the book are also not easy to follow. As I said I loved the characters and the ideas within the story have great potential if the flow to read was easier.
I am voluntarily leaving this review. I’m giving this story a 3.5 rating. While the story was great, there were many plot holes, spelling and grammatical errors. With a little better editing, this has the structure to be an amazing story. Although there should be a trigger warning for physical abuse.
Olallie is deaf, but is forced to get cochlear implants when she qualifies for the procedure. She had a hard life growing up and now that she finds herself having to move in with her father and half siblings, she has to learn to trust and ask for help instead of believing that she deserves every bad thing that happens to her. Lawson also had a hard life growing up and finds himself falling for the beautiful new girl. He treats her bad but it isn’t stated why he is behaving so badly toward her even though he knows he loves her.
Like I said, with better editing, this has the bones to be an amazing story. With fixing the plot holes and errors, and elaborating on certain areas of the story, it has real potential. You can still understand it with all these problems and it truly is a great book but it could be better.
No seriously, what was that? The story line and plot were decent. But the writing was uncomfortable. I’m not sure what the author was trying to accomplish but it’s abundantly clear a new editor is needed. I can’t even describe how disjointed this book is. And the ending? It’s so abrupt and makes no sense compared to the rest of the book. It’s altogether just a weird book that had potential but failed miserably. I should also note that the main female character is underage. I know many people dislike reading about children having sex so that also needs to be noted.
The first book in this series is called Minder follows Olallie and Lawson. This book is about a new romance, Olallie and Lawson are a cute couple but they also go through a hurricane of drama. Lawson wants nothing but the best for Olallie. Olallie doesn’t know if she can trust him. This story is a roller coaster, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen from page to page. I can’t say much more as I don’t want to give anything away. The writing was easy to follow. This book is 179, everything is well balanced and nothing is rushed. But this is a great wild read that kept me wanting to know more about these characters.
The storyline is okay but the book is hard to read. I found myself lost as to who was “speaking” from time to time so it became hard to follow. Or the scene changed without warning. Trying to keep up with all the different characters with everything else was quite confusing in the long run. I normally would continue on to finish a series (and go back to see what I missed if I didn’t start at book 1) once I’ve read one book, but I will not be doing that in this case.
I received this book as an arc from Hidden Gems for my honest opinion.
Gosh, I really don't like leaving reviews that aren't great. I think this book has a lot of potential, but it's just not ready in my opinion. It reads like a second or third draft, unfortunately. Timelines don't make sense, transitions from one topic/chapter need improvement, and the overall flow is just off. I will give this author another chance in the future, because I do think the story would be really good with a little work. I was sent a complimentary copy and I am choosing to leave my honest review.
Once I received this book I was able to read it from the beginning to the end. I thought the characters were so well done it made the story just be so much better and this is my opinon. I thought the story line was so good it made it go so much better to read for me in my opinon. I got this book for free, thru an Advanced Review Copy, ARC, with an honest review freely given.
