Verity Stanhope loved well until her husband’s death. She has no need for love now, in her thirties, but she’s never lonely, thanks to the young men who are more than happy to learn the lessons in seduction she’s said to offer. Then she meets temptation: Oliver Fitzallen, Earl of St. Ervin. He’s not looking for an affair, a mistress, or a night of bliss. He wants her heart and will settle for nothing less.
My lady rake is about Verity wanting to keep her independence, her promise to her late husband that she wouldn’t marry again, and taking young men to her bed. Oliver aids her in getting rid of one young man and states that the bargain will be that she marries him. She denies this several times, but in the end Oliver wins her heart.
3.5 stars This is a fun, entertaining, quick read. Oliver and Verity are interesting, relatable, intriguing, entertaining, complex characters. I enjoyed these two as individuals and a couple. Their path to happily ever after was interesting and fun to read. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story.
This is the fifth book in this collection which I have read and I have enjoyed it so very much. It tells the unusual tale of how the widowed Verity Stanhope and Oliver Fitzallen met, got to know one another and fulfilled a wager and it was such an easy book to read, shortish but very entertaining and enjoyable.
For a very short book this one had an interesting "reveal" near the end that made the story more compelling than it had seemed in the beginning. Other than the reveal (or two) at the end the rest of the book was mostly description of their lovemaking and a short dating period. An enjoyable hour or less of reading.
This is a really captivating story that has plenty of steamy moments. The characters are amazing in their conception, and have to battle with past promises to a dead loved one. A very entertaining read.
I enjoyed this one but felt cheated. I guess I’ve just read too many books 😂😂 I loved the characters and storyline so much. Verity was a wicked wanton lady. There wasn’t a great ending to this one. 💜💜💜
Verity and Oliver's story is full of steam, she seems obsessed and he has wanted her over a decade. As it begins she contradicts herself one chapter after the next while he remains steadfast in his plan. Both seem to have one track minds, his marriage and hers...
Great addition to Wicked Widows, and from the female perspective of being a rake! OMG! She took control of her life and knew what she wanted. I am happy she got her HEA.
