Some loves last a lifetime...Some last an eternity.
General Michael of Elysium is all that is honorable and pure. He has faithfully served his country after being betrayed and cursed by his best friend, Darius, during the Millennium War. But when the curse prevents him from getting his dream position in Elysium’s government, he has no choice except to seek out his old friend with whom he shares a complicated history.
Darius, powerful and silver-tongued, is branded a fallen angel after selling his country's secrets to the enemy. A member of Inferno’s court, he spends his days mindlessly pursuing pleasure, trying to forget the only man he loved— Michael. Until Michael shows up and demands that Darius reverse the curse he laid. Though Darius is reluctant, he needs Michael’s help and so, he agrees to a devil’s bargain. But the delicious attraction that burns between them might be too hard to resist.
Journeying through the country together, Darius and Michael learn more about each other’s secrets. When the feelings that they’ve been denying explode, the two angels discover that under layers of tension lies a deep love that could destroy everything they've worked for.
The Devil’s Curse is a slow-burn M/M fantasy romance featuring loads of sizzling tension, pining, steam, and a happy ending (HEA).
The Devil's Curse is the story of Michael, a General set to become an Archangel. However, due to being cursed by his closest friend, Darius - now a fallen angel branded as a traitor - he is not able to attain the title. In order to break the curse, he goes to find his ex-best friend, and he learns that there is more to the events that led to Darius's betrayal.
I enjoyed this story! It was very much plot driven with the romance interwoven. I loved how it really felt like an enemies-to-lovers story (or rather a friends-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers?). It was also a slow burn! While low on the spice, the scenes we have between Michael and Darius are steamy and well-written.
These two loved one another for a hundred years, and while it took a bit longer on Michael's end to realize his feelings towards Darius were romantic, I loved how beautiful and emotional it was once they came together. My heart went out to Darius; he was suffering for so long, alone and feeling so betrayed. The reunion between them towards the end was also emotional.
I also really loved how there were strong female characters. There is a tendency for authors to make female characters unlikable or one dimensional in MM stories, so I was happy this did not happen. There is also great world building as well.
The plot was intriguing and kept me engaged right to the end! Overall it was a great read. While Michael and Darius story ends with HEA the story I believe will continue in the next book. There is a larger storyline which is not resolved by the end of this book.
This is the second book in the series. The first one is FF, and while I did not read it, I was able to enjoy this addition fully.
If you’re a fan of fantasy stories similar to works by Sarah J Maas I think you’ll enjoy this story!
This story follows Michael who wants to become an archangel for Elysium, however, his wings are useless thanks to his ex-best friend cursing them and making them unusable. He’s determined to become one, and so has been given permission to go down to Inferno where Darius lives now to have him break his curse and get his wings back. However, as he stays in Inferno, Michael ends up making a deal with Darius to help him before he can get his curse broken while trying to fight the attraction they have for each other.
I really enjoyed this book! I love steamy romances, but I especially love when they have a story, and the romance does not overshadow the story. You really learn about the world and the characters. And this is the second book in the series, but it’s definitely its own standalone and you might want to read the first book, but I don’t think you have to.
I really enjoyed the romance, like A LOT! It’s such a slow burn enemies to lovers and it’s so well done! They have a history that hurt both of them and they have to reconcile with each other before allowing that love to truly blossom, as well as for Michael to come to terms to his true feelings for Darius, and it was wonderful to read all that slow burn and angst!
If you love slow burn, enemies to lovers fantasy romances, you should check this one out!!!
I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one, so I'm really happy I gave it a chance!
their relationship, their history, their longing for each other, the sacrifices they make... I loved all of it 🥺
one of the things I didn't like about the first book was the lack of storyline. in this case, however, we can see more things happening and we also get a deeper look into the fantasy world (though I feel like there's still a lot more that can be done about the world-building)
one thing I didn't like was how some knowledge was presented to the characters. I feel like it was directly delivered on a silver plate when it should've happened in a more organic way
also, I do have to say I did guess the plot-twists, and I'm REALLY proud about it 🤭. they were really well hinted and it didn't feel like they appeared out of nowhere, which is great!
This is the type of feel good romance that I love. Embroiled in a feud started by the enraging homophobic establishment we are taken on a ride with Darius and Michael finding each other again. Like any romance that you feel in your gut these two have enemies to lovers with a lot of angst and a slow burn covered. But once they got set on fire y’all the spice was *chefs kiss*. Found family and being able to finally surround himself with people who truly care about him was a journey that Darius had to endure. That’s the only way he even made it until Michael’s return into his life. Micheal on the other hand has grown up in the shadow of his family’s accomplishments namely his dad, and the expectations to live up to and surpass that status of legacy. His father is an entire can of worms that I could go on a series of tangents about but I will just say he’s a pos and never cared about his son the way a parent should. Michael at least had his eyes opened to the lackluster unfulfilling society he was living in and his fathers faults to be able to make his own decisions and choose his own happiness. Petronella and Acelina were ridiculously adorable. We LOVE the acceptance of all loves. Love is love. Also I will Stan the Queen forever. That is all.
"Never be ashamed of what you want, especially if it's me."
The second novel in the Scions of the Underworld Series is a MM second chance adversaries-to-lovers with So. Much. Pining. Prepare your hearts and your loins because this is sweet and spicy and fantastic.
I would describe this as Romance that happens to be in a fantasy world. The specifics on the politics and military issues between all the different realms was interesting and definitely helped move the story along.
But the romance between Michael and Darius was everything my heart needed. I laughed, I cried, I pined, I hoped, I rejoiced.
Wow, what an amazing book. I just finished reading it in one sitting and was completely engrossed by the writing, plot, and characters. I instantly fell in love with both Michael and Darius the moment they were introduced. I especially felt deeply for Darius, given his predicament. The world-building was awesome and got me deeply invested in this fantasy world. But it was the relationship development between Michael and Darius, which was full of depth, sweet moments, and delicious slow-burn tension, that really elevated this book to a five-star read for me. I cried at the end as the lovers finally found their happily-ever-after. Can't wait to read Delton and Xara's book next. Both of them are so intriguing in this book. So excited to continue this amazing series.
I wish I could have given this book 5 stars because I really enjoyed the story. Two friends who pined for each other their whole lives, turned into enemies, brought back together again, hunting for a magic orb, solving a mystery -- this was such a fun plot!! There were a few plot holes, and I figured out the twists throughout the book, but overall, I thought the story was great!
I also loved the characters. My heart immediately went out to Darius when I read his story, and I understood why he made certain choices. Michael was just a lost boy who didn't know what to do with his forbidden attraction to Darius. Their love for each other was absolutely beautiful, and I was so happy that they ended up with their HEA.
However, this book would have been so much better with an editor. Once I read the acknowledgments, I realized that this was self-published and beta-read, so it made a little more sense. But I feel like the mistakes took away from the plot of the book.
Michael’s hand thumb moved up to brush Darius’ cheek.
I also noticed several continuity mistakes, like Darius would take off his pants and then 2 paragraphs later, he'd take them off again. 😣 This happened so frequently that I ended up skimming the last 25% of the book. It's not a HUGE deal, but the extra time and effort put into fixing those mistakes would have made this book a 4 to 5-star read.
5⭐️ 3🌶️ This book was amazing. The world building and character development was top notch. This is a slow burn however the spicy we got were 🥵 I really loved the love Darius and Michael had for one another. My heart broke for Darius and what he went through. I couldn’t get enough of this book. And was so happy they got their HEA in the ending. Highly recommended this series.
I rooted for Michael and Darius the entire time. There were times that the “solutions” seemed a bit to easy but overall a very enjoyable read. It had the perfect ratio of angst and spice.
Read as a standalone, there were no evident hooks to the previous book in this series. The MCs Michael and Darius play into the second chance trope; the author works in a clever view of the underworld. Some light heat, swordplay, deception.
I normally don't like slow burns but this one surprised me. I want more of Darius and Michael but unfortunately the plot continues with a different couple.
