Treacherous times leave loved ones dead as Sam pays the ultimate price to help Camp Wallace and eastern Tennessee.
Lauren discovers a way to restore the power grid four months after the EMP attack left the nation in the dark. But food is scarce, and danger abounds outside the wire. When a deadly epidemic hits Unicoi and puts their work in jeopardy, Sam and his best men mount a mission through the badlands to find medicine.
Lauren’s success catches the attention of both state and national politicians, putting Lauren and the Camp Wallace community in the crosshairs.
Enemies join forces, and Sam must act fast to protect the lives of his wife and unborn child.
Brink of Collapse is the fourth and final epic installment to the Survive the Collapse series.
This ended what has been a good series. Much of the story here was the Group trying to restore power, security and other services to their area while dealing with the corrupt machinations of politicians trying to take control. This seemed like it would be a realistic scenario in this type of EMP, an event that would leave quite a power vacuum. There were some awkward sentences and a few times the dialogue was such that I was not sure who was speaking. It was not too distracting though. I felt like one set of deaths was mostly for the shock value, and the ending seemed a bit rushed. In fact, we only hear about some of what happened after a main character regained consciousness. I did like the jump ahead to get some perspective on how the aftermath was being handled.
Review for whole Series. Definitely worth five stars.
I really enjoyed this series and this author. I prefer post apocalyptic stories like this which concentrate on the characters’ narratives rather than just on the disaster. You become invested in the outcomes and in their journeys. The deaths and injuries are more impactful because of it. I think this has been my most enjoyable series from this author so far. Looking forward to more. I think I might be getting to the end of her completed portfolios unfortunately so I’ll now have to be patient for the new books.
From the first pages of Book 1 to the Epilogue of Book 4 this was a dizzying, heart wrenching ride thru the Apocalypse of an EMP strike! Never give up and keep your head on a swivel are the two things I saw deeply ingrained in the Wallace family. They would do us all well to make them a part of our lives too
I guess Charlie’s mom and other sister didn’t make it. It was never made clear. Not sure why she had to go and kill off Vince and Lindsay it was so close to the end. The time jump was ok, but I would have liked to know what happened to everyone else that was in the community.
Book Review: Brink of Collapse: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (Survive the Collapse Book 4) Kindle Edition by T. L. Payne (Author) Format: Kindle Edition T. L. Payne gave a good description of how different our lives would be without electricity. Much that we take for granted would be absent. Great novel! I enjoyed the four-book series.
I enjoyed the conclusion of this series. Still some surprising twists to keep the reader engaged. Can they get the lights back on? Who can be trusted? What does the future hold for Sam and Lauren? Enjoy!
This is the conclusion of the Survive the Collapse series. Not everyone survives, but electricity is restored and the nation starts to rebuild. As evidenced by the epilog, the process of coming back from an EMP takes many, many years.
T.L. Paine comes though with another series that will keep you enthralled from the beginning to the end. The characters come alive, drawing the reader deeper into the story.
I enjoyed this series (though the author wasn't afraid to kill off characters!). Lauren and Sam may have been the main characters, but there were many who made the story richer and more interesting.
Finale. Wow what a series from start to finish. You dare not turn your back, you don’t know who would harm you. At least be a mole for the ones that will.
The Survive the Collapse series was good not unlike the other post EMP stories, No mention of faith though and hard to imagine getting through something like that without faith,
This series was an interesting take on what might happen after an EMP strike on the country. The side plot added another layer of intrigue. Some editing misses, however, it was well written and suspenseful. All three books kept me wanting more.
This was a great plot & I loved the way it ended. The characters were also very likeable. I wish there was just one more on the series. On to the next series.
I am not one to DNF a book series… But I have never been closer than with this one. Somehow, I stuck with it. I even tried to listen to it purely for entertainment…disregarding the plot holes, poor character development, and lack of emotion (to name a few things… ) Can’t be done. Just bad.
Fourth book in the series. Still lots of problems, but; working together pays off. Takers get what they deserve and a glimpse of the future for a great ending.
