Moonlight Prophecies #3

Wane on Harvest Moon

Rate this book
Cat shifter Luke and rat shifter Preston have had a solid relationship for ten years, but lately, the increasing attacks on their pack and the stress of raising their adopted daughter are highlighting more of their differences than the values they have in common. When they travel to Glenwood to investigate the source of the ancient artifacts tied to the recent violence, tensions in the shifter community—and their relationship—are already running high.

Strangely, this mystery seems tied to the events that brought them together. On their first mission, eighteen-year-old Luke and twenty-one-year-old Preston had to put aside their differences—and back-burner their mutual attraction—to prevent a disaster that would have revealed the existence of shifter kind to humans.

But how does what’s happening now connect to their past? And can they find the answers their pack, their species, and their relationship need to survive?

Wane on Harvest Moon is part of the Moonlight Prophecies series. I’d recommend reading them in order. It’s important with the context in this story and is part of a series. I was so glad to get Preston and Luke!! Luke is a cat shifter and Preston a rat shifter. I freakin loved Preston and Luke and couldn’t help but root for them as they solve the mystery! Overall, a fantastic read! Well written with pacing that just flowed!

I was very happy this book was about Luke and Preston! It is a separate mystery and romance, but I highly recommend reading the previous books in the series as you get to know them there. The mystery brings even more of a fun connection to Luke and Preston's relationship, but I do not want to give anything away. If you have been enjoying this series, you will really enjoy this one that focuses on Luke and Preston.

CW’s and CN’s at the end.

I binged all of Amanda Kay Meuwissen’s Moonlight Prophesies books and I have to say I’m really enjoying this unique take on shifter lore. All three books are interconnected and have some fantastic worldbuilding incorporating different shifters, vampires, witches, seers, some gnarly politics and a sinister villain at the centre of it all.

Book 3, *Wane on Harvest Moon* focuses on two side characters in the first two books, Rat King Preston and cat shifter Luke. I was so intrigued because this isn’t a shifter I’ve encountered before and it’s such a unique premise. What’s extra interesting is that these two are an established couple at the start of the series and this book gives us a closer look at their beginnings and also how they’re coping in the present in the midst of an urgent mission to figure out who is trying to harm them, their pack and all their friends.

I really loved their dynamic. Coming from two different social classes as well having polar opposite personalities, Pres and Luke were a delightful reserved/sunshine couple. Though Preston is deeply unsure about Luke’s rather carefree attitude, the cat shifter’s sweet and easygoing nature does a lot to soothe some of the hurt Preston has experienced at the hands of his entitled and cold parents. Both characters learn a lot about themselves as well as how to lean on each other as they’re thrown together in a newly formed pack that has a lot of danger to face from the get go. The story moved seamlessly between fast paced action, to the sweet, swoony and sexy and I had such fun with this book. The story is far from over so I’m really looking forward to what comes next for these characters and the rest of the pack!

CW’s: mentions of growing up in a shifter version of foster care; neglectful and emotionally abusive parents; mentions of parental abandonment; mentions of minors being recruited for illegal labour; depictions of shifter related prejudice and discrimination that mirror some real world race relations; some violence and injuries.

CN’s: This is a shifter romance between a rat and cat shifter who are from opposite social classes. This is the third book in a series and must be read in order. This is a medium heat novel and contains on-page sex scenes.

“To be continued?” Preston worried his kiss-bitten lips, but he didn’t say no.
“How about I remain… cautiously optimistic?” A smile tugged at Preston’s mouth, which Luke counted as another win.

It’s no secret that Luke and Preston are my favorite couple of this series. But since they were an established couple already I didn’t expect a book about them. So, when I read this installment’s blurb I couldn’t be happier. Even though most of the story takes place ten years ago, when Bash became the Alpha, this series should be read in order. There are quite a few present time mysteries revealed here.

description

Seeing how Luke and Preston meet and their personalities back then was so endearing. Preston being kind of a snob while Luke was all positive and seeing the glass half full type of man. The perfect match if you ask me. Even though Luke is younger than Preston, due to everything he’d been through since a little boy, you could tell he was wiser in a lot of topics.
And all their current struggles, after ten years together and with some changes in the family, felt so real. No matter if you are matted, sometimes you just need to slow down and listen to each other and remember why you fell in love.

The best cat/rat pairing since Tom and Jerry. I’ve been waiting for their story since book 1. Now we are only one book away from all the mysteries that are still unsolved.

I was already predisposed to like the central characters in this story, cat shifter Luke and rat shifter Preston, for any number of reasons, and I found, as the story unfolded, that I ended up caring about them, rooting for them, and investing in their relationship even more. It’s worth pointing out that this book is part of a series, and reading previous books in the series, if you haven’t already, is not only helpful for context on the characters, previous events, and general world building, but also rewarding in its own right– they’re really good! For me, while the events of the story (vague here, because it’s worth experiencing the plot on its own terms) were definitely engrossing, it was the character development alongside those events that felt like the heart of the story– the mystery is super interesting, and what it brings out in them–what it says about who they were and who they are now, even more so. 4.5 stars.

First off while this can be read as a standalone, it's best if read in order. There is an overreaching arc ties the series together that's woven through all the books. Luke and Preston's story is a fantastic addition to this highly enjoyable series. Well-written with great world building as always.

Wane on Harvest Moon is the third book in the Moonlight Prophecies series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This story follows Luke a cat shifter and Preston a rat shifter who have been together for ten years. I am so happy to read Luke and Preston's story after meeting them in the previous books. I like that we learn so much about how they met and what happened in the past. It was hard seeing them at the beginning of the book. I still can't wait for the final book in this series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This is the third book in the series. I would recommend reading the books in order to fully enjoy everything this series has to offer.

I eagerly devoured this one and it was so freaking good. This book focuses on another couple - Luke and Preston as they try to solve the mystery.

Fantastic book and I would highly recommend it.

Wane on Harvest Moon by Amanda Meuwissen is book 3 in the Moonlight Prophecies series. It was previously published in 2021 but is being rereleased. This book focuses on Preston and Luke and their search for the anonymous person who donated the goods. Most of the book was focused on the first time Preston and Luke met and I was here for it. I love these two so much and it was so sad to see them fighting at the beginning of the novel. They had recently adopted Jesse, a teenage tiger, and it was causing cracks in their bond. Preston said so many mean things to Luke. I did not agree when Luke said that they both were to blame. Preston was so cold and cruel at the beginning that he needed to grovel a little bit more. Luke was not innocent, but he was reactionary rather than attacking. I was glad to see them return to the love they had when they first met. I think this series has a very interesting take on mates/mate bonds. It’s hard to determine how they decide their mates and how they actually become bonded. It’s never completely laid out (one character said you just say some words sort of like vows), but I would have loved to have seen it play out on page. Also, are they mated forever? It was just not completely clear to me. For instance, if Preston and Luke (who were bonded) decided that they couldn’t fix their issues what would happen? I know there was so much more happening here, but I was fixated on the bonds. Anyways, I loved this one a lot. I am not sure who my favorite couple is: Preston and Luke or Bari and Jay. Pretty evenly matched I think. Cannot wait for the conclusion!

Preston and Luke deserved a book since their first appearance. I am so glad they got it in the end!

⭐I loved their dynamic, different backgrounds, and long relationship, in which they learned from each other and supported each other through good and bad. Getting to see their first meeting, first love confession, and first obstacles was a nice opportunity, and I liked every minute of it.
⭐Both main mysteries - the artifact from the past, and the donator from the present surprised me. I liked the ideas, the twists, and the final revelations.
What I didn't like, however, were the resolutions.

🌙 It's a short book. It's not the first book from Amanda that felt too rushed. It's a short, fast and easy read, don't get me wrong, but its length was its biggest problem. While the first 2/3rds of the book is mostly the setup for the plot, getting to know MCs, investigating a little bit, and showing their strengths and weaknesses, after the scene in the Shelter everything sped up insanely. All the confessions (and there were a lot of them) looked unbelievable, made because of the dramatic moment, or because the plot needed them. I especially didn't like the mystery donor one - really, just for that short time, he was able to say it? Very convenient.
🌙 And while I'm at it - I love when characters speak to each other and communicate their needs and faults, it does seem forced here. Maybe if they had more pages and a couple of talks instead of one, it would end up more believable.
🌙 While the first two books explored different cities and packs, this one was mostly about Centrus. The beginning gave me hope for a new and different place, with its own quirks, magic, and balance, but in the end as readers, we spend time watching young Bash's circle. Nothing more, which is really a pity - especially because it was the first time that we got to see someone younger (Jessy) discover another city. Somehow I hoped for something more like family investigation and tours, not just a NA romance (however cute it was).

🌙 In the end, I have very mixed feelings about this book. As always, I loved the ideas, the world, and the different chemistry between MCs. I liked how there was no obvious top/bottom energy in either of them. And I liked the big revelation about the mysterious villain slash vampire.
What I didn't like was the length. The speed stole some good romantic moments, some good dramatic moments, and some good scary moments. Some things didn't really make sense (firstly Preston couldn't teleport in That specific place, but two pages later he suddenly could?; The Thrall working only after The confession?; Nell giving a sudden advantage to the circle right when they needed it?; Etc.). I'm betting that if the author had more chapters, and gave more days to the characters, most of these would be easily avoided.

⭐I can recommend this book without a doubt to anyone who enjoyed the previous two, but I'm also hoping that the next one will be longer, to conclude everything properly. There are not a lot of things sadder than seeing the wasted potential of a series.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC! This review and opinions are only mine, and I'm volunteringly posting it here.💕

Life between Luke and Preston is increasingly fractured, with old insecurities coming to the fore originating from opposite sides of the social divide. That, plus some ancient artifacts, puts a few things into perspective.
Wane On Harvest Moon is a splendid read, but not quite what the blurb led me to expect.
The story is told in the third person from the viewpoints of Preston and Luke. I always love Amanda Meuwissen's ability to get the world-building spot on for my taste, and her characters are superbly different. Luke spent most of his life at the shelter, where he was free to express his feelings. In contrast, Preston’s upbringing was sewn tighter than a monk’s purse. Luke is adorably cheeky, along with Preston’s dose of strait-laced that is willing to be influenced. And, I loved the comic book references.
The story mainly follows Luke and Preston’s initial meeting as their past connects to what’s happening in the present and the series storyline. Remembering the past also influences the actions of the present. These characters are awesome additions to the story. However, given the blurb, I’d have liked more relationship issues to be aired in the present, as what was on the page didn’t alter my heart rate. But, what makes the story a page-turning read, is the extra pack action and heat.
The beginning and end were the connectors to the series timeline and the progression of the underlying arc. But with the focus on Luke and Preston and their past, the present relationship issues became somewhat safely dealt with. It was a shame because that could have added some delicious angsty moments that would have elevated the story to a higher rating for me. What happens is probably more realistic, but this is fantasy and I love a bit of angst.
Nevertheless, Luke and Preston are a marvelous power couple, and alongside the other pack members and story characters – what I read, I enjoyed, and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I loved “Wane on Harvest Moon”! Honestly, I was worried because I thought the family theme between Luke, Preston and Jesse would be omnipresent in the book. So, I was pleased when I realized that the events would take place in the past during mostly all of the book.

We discover how Luke and Preston met. It was great to return to the origins of Centrus’ Circle with Bashir, Bari and everyone else. I loved Luke and Preston since the beginning of the series so going back to the beginning of their relationship was nice.
I loved the fated mates’ theme. Their relationship is adorable despite the obstacles between them. They have to trust each other despite all their differences. This book conveys tolerance and acceptance of who you are.
They have opposites personalities but they complete each other perfectly. Luke is easy-going, funny and radiant while Preston is more cautious, reserved, and serious. It’s the collision between two very different worlds and natures.

I really appreciated that Preston and Luke are unusual shifter. It was the first time I’ve read a story about a rat shifter and a cat shifter, and Preston’s power as a Rat King is original and unique. I already knew a little about their abilities thanks to “By the Red Moonlight” but discovering Preston’s powers as a Magister was great. Luke being an “alley cat” is really relevant too. I guess it can be challenging to create fights with rats shifters and cats shifters since they are really small but, in this book, Luke and Preston’s powers were well-used and realistic.

The action and suspense are well-paced until the end as for the previous books of the series. This book also confirms that Bash is an incredible alpha, even though he was so young when he became an Alpha just after killing his father. I appreciated the decisions he made for his city.
I’m glad we finally know who is the main villain. I can’t wait for them to finally fight Alexa.

This book was delightful. The pace and storyline were gripping and just right, not too fast but neither was it too slow. The action that took place was thrilling and I adored every second of it. I was so invested, so filled with sorrow, rage, love, it was all so strong and thoroughly enjoyable. I really could not get enough of this one.

Reading all about Luke and Preston's past, the start of their relationship, the intense struggles they and everyone else went through was a wonderful touch and since they were an already established couple in the other books it was a really nice throw back so we could 'see it' happen in real time so to speak. The fact that it all tied into the current events spreading out over the other books just made it even better.

I am so invested in this world, in the characters and Luke is the sweetest sunshine boy to ever sunshine I swear. I adore him as much as Preston clearly does. It's so obvious why Bash chose him for the position he did because it's perfect for him and he's such a beautiful soul that there really was no one else possible for that spot. And Preston, the way he kicked so much behind and so powerfully throughout the book, watching him grow and further his powers, perfect, just perfect.

The storyline going through all these books is dark and twisted and intriguing and I really can't wait to see how it resolves and figure everything we don't already know or haven't guessed out. Amanda has a way of writing books that just stick with me and I'm sure others too, this book was of course no exception. I adored it so much and wish it didn't end but of course, there's still the next one to go! Really looking forward to diving back into this world one last time.

Wane on Harvest Moon is the third book in the series and features rat king, Preston and cat shifter, Luke. They are side characters from the first book and an already established couple. In this story, Preston and Luke are struggling to adjust to being adoptive parents and navigating a new family dynamic. They keep finding themselves at odds with each other, much like they were when they first met.

Most of the story is a flashback to their past when they meet and the mystery they faced then, which has come back to impact their present. Preston and Luke come from very different backgrounds, but both endured a lot as children. Their different experiences can make it hard to for them to understand where the other is coming from. Through remembering their shared past, they realize how much they do love each other and what is most important.

Amanda's writing style is fantastic and engaging. She does a great job balancing romance and action. The plot was interesting and blended well with the overall series.

I loved seeing their history, but I do wish there was more time spent with them in the present during the story. I love established couple romances and I felt like I was missing out on seeing more of their resolution and how they moved forward together with their little family. I hope to see more of them in the next book, which is also the series conclusion.

Wane on Harvest Moon is the third book in Amanda Meuwissen's Moonlight Prophecies series. It's not the strongest book in the series, but Preston and Luke are my favorite characters after Ethan. They're opposites. Cat shifter Luke was orphaned and raised at the Shelter. Rat shifter, Preston, had a family. A privileged family that was controlling and looked down at 'lesser' shifters. And were angry that Preston was gay. Luke is more open and affectionate while Preston is stiff and buttoned up.
They're busy, busy, with pack dynamics and raising their adopted tiger daughter, Jesse. Their relationship is suffering, they seem to be drifting apart. Miscommunications lead to hurt feelings and neither can figure out how to stop. Behind their hurt, you can see the love for each other and their desire to provide Jesse with the life she deserves. A better life than either of them had.
The mystery is interesting with lots of twists. Glenwood is quite different from Centrus or Brookdale, with a heck of a strong female alppha.
A quick, fun read. One more book to go. Can't wait.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

I love that the couple in this book are a rat an a house cat. Most shifter books have more conventional shifting creatures. Cat shifter Luke and rat shifter Preston are the focus of this story both in the present day and ten years ago. As usual the story is well written and interesting. Honestly I had to give it four stars unlike my usual five for her Ms. Meuwissen’s books because I just didn’t like it quite as much as I have other books of hers. I guess it’s this series that seems to be not as focused as previous ones. Maybe it’s because Bashir is still getting prophecies rather than the prophecies being established in the beginning? I can’t say that there was anything wrong with it but I just couldn’t get into it as much. Don’t let this review put you off at all because Ms. Meuwissen writing at a little bit sub par is still miles above other writer’s best. I definitely still look forward to see where this series is going.

Preston and Luke are having some troubles at the start of this one. It's been implied that their relationship has become a bit strained due to their different parenting styles with their adopted daughter. This one starts with the three of them visiting a neighboring city to follow up the threat from the previous stories. While I appreciated the backstory of how these two met and came into the positions they currently hold within Bash's circle, I thought we'd get more of a back and forth between past and present. It's not until the last few chapters that we get to see these two make up after a huge fight and I would've liked to have seen them put into practice their promise to meet each other halfway with parenting. I like Preston and Luke but I was expecting more of a story on an existing couple, and this is really focused on them before they're together. I'm curious to see how the overarching plot will turn out but this one didn't quite hold my interest like the previous two.

Wane on Harvest Moon is the third book in the Moonlight Prophecies series, and while it can be read alone, the overlapping characters and plotlines make this one that’s best read in order. As with the other books in the series, Wane on Harvest Moon is filled with a myriad of paranormal characters and features an interesting suspense and action plot as the characters work to uncover and stop a plan that could harm their shifter communities.

Luke and Preston were introduced in the first book of the Moonlight Prophecies series, so it was fun to see how the rat and alley-cat shifters ended up together. The approach to Wane on Harvest Moon was unique, combining their history from 10 years ago when they met and first worked together to stop a threat to their alpha and community with their current work to stop another threat. The transitions between the current timeline and the past were smooth without a lot of back and forth to disrupt the flow. The reader gets a chance to really get to know the characters while still getting a fun and interesting story to follow.

The ending of Wane on Harvest Moon is a little ambiguous, so I am sure there is more to come in this exciting paranormal adventure series. As with other books, the variety of secondary characters is fantastic, and I am eager to meet the couple and see where the series takes us next.

Preston & Luke
An interesting way to work the story, starting out present day to introduce the continuing plot from books 1 & 2 and then working in their original mating story from 10 years earlier.
The layout of this book was incredibly interesting. I never expected to have the bulk of it basically be a prequel story but it's definitely necessary to read in the third spot in the series.

I loved getting the chance to be introduced to the youngest members of the circle with Preston & Luke right as they are invited in. Thrown together for their first big prophecy apocalypse, the two form a very quick bond, but Preston spends a lot of time trying to fight it, all because of the nonsense in his head from his family and childhood. Luke works so hard to bring Preston out of his shell, and watching the two fall in love is a sweet journey even when you consider what they're fighting for. Both Luke & Preston have sunshine-y characteristics, but it's clear that Luke is definitely the more outgoing one of the duo. It was also great to see how Preston worked to improve his abilities, as he's still very wary in the beginning and trying to initially act over confident.
It was also a great time to be generally introduced to the rest of the circle as well, because even without their own written love stories, they all play an important role in Centrus City, especially in their first week.

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this crew wins the day and figures out how to take down the big baddie. I loved Wane on Harvest Moon and all of the Moonlight Prophecies series so far!

I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Preston and Luke have been a couple for ten years. Their relationship started off a little rocky but it didn't take long before they had things figured out. Now ten years later, they've adopted a teenage daughter and things are getting bumpy again. Trouble comes to Centrus City and they go to Glenwood to get some answers, only to have more problems and questions arise.

I like Preston and Luke as a couple. They have good chemistry and balance each other out. I like that we got their back story. I like that we get more information on who's behind the attacks on the packs. Not a fan of stories starting in present time, then going back in time, only to come back to present time. That's probably just a me thing though. Looking forward to book 4 and the continuation of this series.

I was so happy to get Luke and Preston’s story and thankful we got to see the beginning of it all as well. This series is still best when read in order to really follow it all. Luke a cat shifter and Preston the “Rat King”-an unlikely couple at first glance but fated for sure. I don’t always like established couples books especially if their relationship is solid but they suddenly have turmoil just for the sake of a story. Luckily this was handled really well and actually was more of a reaffirmation of their bond once they figured sh&t out!! Definitely recommend this and the whole series in general.

This is book 3 in the series and must be read in order. Luke, a cat shifter, amd Preston, a rat king, have been mated for 10 years. The adopted Jesse who is a tiger shifter. They were having some problems and went on Bash’s orders to another town to find out more about the artifacts. When Preston went to bed, he saw Luke sleeping and started remembering how they met 10 years earlier. Love how their romance started with Preston being iffy at the beginning. I loved how they were able to communicate near the end as they found out more about who is causing all the problems for the shifters. I cannot wait to read the last book to find out what happens next.

I loved the way the author has done several things with this book: 1) Given us more insight and information about how Luke and Preston first met and how their relationship developed, 2) made the story about an established couple facing serious stress in their relationship and 3) making the plot about the dangers to the the pack and the outside world parallel so closely the dangers to Luke and Preston's relationship. Everything in this story work seamlessly together: the wonderful characters and the amazing world building.

This is the story of Luke and Preston, it is the 3rd book in The Moonlight Prophecies. Please read the trigger warnings. I love this series. I would suggest that you read the series in order, just makes it so much better. It is written wonderfully with great characters. I adore the world created by this author and this one fit in perfectly. The action and mystery, not to mention the steamy moments keeps you reading well past your bedtime. Definitely recommended.

Luke and Preston mission takes an unexpected turn as recent tensions and events make them reminiscence how they met and their first challenge.
Their enemy finally is made known, but her web and connections are more intricate than they expected as things and events connect.
Their chemistry and development were exquisite, as they accepted their true selves, find their common ground and happiness.
With this new information, they have to be ready for the final attack and be ready to confront a powerful enemy.
I liked the story, and I’m looking forward to the grand finale.

Great addition to the series!

I enjoyed Wane on Harvest Moon by Amanda Meuwissen. It's the third book in the Moonlight Prophecies series. I liked Luke and Preston's story. I liked seeing what happened in their past and how it influenced their future and how it helped them reconnect and remember why they loved each other. We finally find out who the mystery donor is and have a name for the vampire who is trying to reenact the past. I look forward to reading the last book to find out how they defeat her.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
3.5⭐️This series has plenty of twists and turns and the author does a great job with the expansive world building. This was my favorite couple so far, as I really love story centered around established couples like Preston and Luke. The highlight for me was getting to relive Preston and Luke’s beginning, that was wonderful. Honestly, I am less interested in the plot and the mysteries but I liked this couple a lot. If you like lots of plot, there is plenty of here and I appreciated getting some more of the missing puzzle pieces.

I love series books and this is a great addition to 'Moonlight Prophecies.'
Throw in some shifters, an adopted daughter and ancient artifacts and you've got an engrossing mystery that will enchant, make you smile, and shake your head, all at the same time!

How soon people forget what brought them together as a couple.
This 'flashback' is perfectly done!
This is a perfect example for us to cherish each other!

This is a cliff hanger so be prepared.

Overall, this book was good. I was a little confused because I haven’t read either of the two previous books, but most of the time, references to the past were explained. Preston and Luke are a good match and strong couple, they just had a major change to their lives and are assimilating that separately instead of together as a team. It’s good to see them figure out how to come back to each other. Recommended!
