This is the second book in the Sara Browne series, and follows on from Flickering Heart. It’s a dramatic and emotional read with a mystery/suspense storyline as a young couple try desperately to heal and get a fresh start.

This book picks up immediately after the end of Flickering Heart, with Sara and Scott dealing with the fallout from all that they went through in the final chapters of that book. It’s incredibly intense, and I was right back into those heartwrenching feels, and while there is a little bit of a recap, be aware that this book cannot be read as a standalone

Desperate for a fresh start, Sara and Scott try to get back into college life, only to very quickly realise that everything has changed. Not only do they have to physically and emotionally heal from all that they’ve been through, but there are real-life unexpected consequences which are hideously unfair, but which they have to deal with, and my heart hurt for both of them.

To try and keep her mind focussed elsewhere, Sara latches on to the story about a student who went missing from their University a year previously. She researches the case, and she searches for the person who took the missing girl, suspecting every dodgy character that crosses her path. It’s an intriguing story that builds mystery, and provides a suspenseful and exciting climax to the book.

But the heart of this story is the healing journey for Sara. It’s not easy, and there are a lot of ups and downs for both Sara and Scott. They make mistakes, but that makes their story real, and though they may be dealing with some very extreme situations, I enjoyed watching them come through it together, finding strength in each other, and loving each other through all of it.

“I’m not going anywhere, I would wait forever for you if I had to.”

The book ends in a good place, but there will be at least one more book in this series. I’m curious to see what the author has in store for these two in the future.

3 stars.

I finished Revive yesterday and all I could think was Wow! Wow! Wow! What a fantastic book. I love the way the book begins with Sara reliving her trauma from Flickering Heart and ends with her liberating herself from all the turbulent events that have happened to her. Her growth throughout Revive is compelling and realistic. Her relationships with her friends and, most importantly, her true love, Scott, are fraught with ups and downs that, in the past would have spun Sara into despair. Not so in Revive. She continues to seek help and gains strength as the story unfolds. The upheavals she encounters are unexpected and the extraordinary ending is so intense I couldn't put the book down! I can't wait to find out where the next installment in Sara's story takes us.

Tricia LaRochelle just won another fan.

Revive (SARA BROWNE SERIES Book 2) is the second book in the series and takes off from where Flickering Heart ended. Scott has been a force in Sara's life and why she has to navigate the challenges of her studies and the demands of friendships, she still reels from the traumatic events that happened most recently. When the story of a girl who went missing a year ago resurfaces, Sara holds onto it, remembering her own painful experience. Can it be that the person who attacked her is behind the disappearance of that student? There are many questions and Sara needs answers, but will she be able to find the answers she is looking for? Follow Sara and Scott and other fully drawn characters in this tale that melds romance with a mystery to offer an enjoyable reading experience to fans of YA romance. Sara is stunningly imagined and expertly executed, a character that will feel real to many readers. Tricia LaRochelle just won another fan.

Heart on a Tightrope

I'm up on the tight rope
One side's hate and one is hope
But the top-hat on my head is all you see

- Leon Russel, “Tight Rope”

In my review of Flickering Heart, the first book in Tricia LaRochelle’s Sarah Browne series, I praised the way the author dealt with how our troubled thoughts and feelings defeat our best impulses. In that story, both Sarah and Scott struggle to become vulnerable to each other and seal their love. In the sequel, Revive, this is true ten times over, and it makes for a gripping tale.

The powerful ending of the first book left Sarah traumatized even more deeply than she was when the story opened. Scott, too, shared in the tragic events and carries his own wounds. In the aftermath, as the second book opens, they each struggle to allow the other into their heart but can’t, thereby denying themselves the very thing they need most: the solace of mutual care. Reading their almost tragic story is like watching two tight rope walkers over a deep canyon gorge, fighting against buffeting winds to maintain balance.

As if it weren’t enough to follow the characters as they deal with past pain, a new menace arises in this book that threatens to cut the rope itself out from under their feet. A young woman named Carrie, a student at the university before Sarah arrived, has been missing for a year, and Sarah takes up the task of learning her fate. She does what she can to heal herself: starting therapy at a clinic called Revive, taking self-defense classes – but the case of the missing woman slowly takes her over, leading her into increasingly risky situations. The romance aspects of the book intermingle with elements of murder mystery and psychological thriller as Sarah goes deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of madness that led to Carrie’s fate. As the story reaches its climax, Sarah finds herself entangled in the same web of deception and danger, and must rely on an inner strength, and her beloved Scott, to escape.

One of the most powerful – if saddest – aspects of LaRochelle’s novels is the way she depicts in painful detail how past trauma has distorted Sarah’s view of herself and the world. Between the troubles of the first book and those of the second, Sarah has become alienated from her own life, loves and emotions, even her own body. Of those terrible events she ruminates and stews, thinking “My body didn’t feel like mine anymore.” and, “I’m ruined, Scott. Just leave me alone and find someone else.” Even though Sarah takes positive steps to face her demons and dissipate them, the author does not shrink from giving the reader a first-hand, troubling account of what psychic suffering does to one’s sense of self. Anyone who has fought against a damning internal monologue will instantly recognize how it can lead to tragedy.

But this is, after all, a romance story and in the end, though by the skin of their teeth, Sarah and Scott survive and are reunited in the blessings of their love. All is not joy in their world, mind you: Sarah’s healing is just beginning, and Scott has deep issues with his violent temper and anger at his father to deal with before he can truly help Sarah feel safe. As this part of their tale ends, we get the sense that they will face much more trouble, from the outside world and within their own hearts. But for now, we can breathe more easily as we watch them both reach the far side of the gorge, step off the tight rope and onto solid ground.

Revive is book two in the Sara Browne series by Tricia T. Larochelle.

This book centers on Sara’s recovery from her sexual assault. It also caters to Sara and Scott’s

relationship and rebuilding trust. The onset begins with Sara having nightmares; Scott is there to help her through each one.

Scott becomes the most patient and understanding man ever after experiencing the trauma with Sara.

Absolutely loved their relationship!

Sara spends a lot of time contemplating and thinking while trying to recover. Sara becomes obsessed with a

student that went missing last year – Carrie Stevens. She picks up bits of information here and there and the more she finds

out the more she needs to know. Carrie disappeared without a trace.

With soft encouragement from Amy, Sara seeks out counseling for not only the trauma of her sexual assault, but unresolved

issues stemming from her parents passing. (One session left me a crying, blubbering mess – because what a lesson!!)

Each session of counseling helps Sara take steps forward in the right direction.

Sara also decides to join a self-defense class to be able to always protect herself.

A press conference from the parents of Carrie Stevens for the one year anniversary of being missing, lends more to

Sara’s curiosity. Sara questions Scott if he knew Carrie and he was quick to answer that he only knew her from the

posters that were up around the school. He also gets upset and tells Sara to let it go and stop pursuing information, which

was weird to Sara. Just when Sara starts to get some answers into what happened to Carrie, her best friend Amy goes missing.

Sara begins to track down the people that she had doubts about with Carrie’s disappearance. Coming too close to the perpetrator, Sara finds herself

kidnapped also and in a shocking twist it is revealed who has kidnapped them.

Sara does everything in her power to save herself and Amy. She has lost so much in her life, she wasn’t about to lose her

best friend also. Will she be able to save them both? And what will Scott do when he finds out Sara is missing.

I read this entire book in one sitting. It was an amazing second book in an equally wonderful series.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Revive, Book 2 in the Sara Browne series, begins where Flickering Heart left off. Sara Browne has been through a horrible ordeal and is suffering repercussions in the form of PTSD and more. She must carry on as a college student as much as that’s possible—there are classes to attend and secrets about herself and her boyfriend, Scott Williams, to keep. However, flashbacks of the recent and horrible happenings keep barging into her thoughts, causing night terrors and driving a wedge through the couple’s attempts at happiness.

They both want to make the relationship work, and Sara desperately wants to “feel normal” again, so she takes steps to meet that end. In the meantime, however, Sara becomes obsessed with a girl who went missing the prior year. This dark element of the story began in Book 1 and at first lurks in the background here, becoming prevalent in the second half of the story, and speeding readers to the very end. You won’t want to put the book down.

Revive is about healing and being there for friends and family no matter how hard that might be and finding the way back to love and trust. Through ups and downs and all kinds of struggle, we feel for Sara and her steadfast attempts to make a happy life for herself and those she cares deeply about. LaRochelle has a talent for well-rounded, unique characters and emotion that rises like steam from the page. You’ll love this one and be back for more.

Author Tricia LaRochelle does it again! Revive is the second published book in the Sara Browne series, and it’s a jaw dropper. The beginning of this book takes you right back into the action of Flickering Heart’s ending. From there on, the book only gets better. After experiencing a traumatic event that no one should ever have to endure, Sara understandably struggles to move forward. Her visions and horrific memories of the event cause a strain in many of her close relationships, but particularly with her boyfriend, Scott. Between the secrets, trust issues, and additional trauma, their relationship must conquer a lot in order to survive. However, little do they both know, there’s even more trouble lurking on the horizon.

One thing I love about Revive is the added suspense to the story. That’s what I believe truly keeps a reader invested. LaRochelle introduces solid, well-versed characters in Flickering Heart, but in Revive she makes them even more endearing and relatable than before. New characters come into play in this second book that help you understand some of the fragilities the base characters carry. While reading, I continuously found myself hoping for Sara to find true happiness. Not having the knowledge of whether she was ever going to reach that peak, kept me reading. However, one thing I do know, is you won’t be disappointed reading this book.

This is the second part of Sara’s story and my second book of this author I’m trying to get to know; and while I loved book one…this one gave me trouble.

I am a huge fan of the anticipation, of the unknown, of leading me in different directions but the beginning was more than it needed to be. I understand that it added to the unknown and hide very well the person in question but for me a couple of chapters weren’t needed. To me it was too much….Too much meaning I almost didn’t finish…meaning parts of me wanting to stop reading because I felt like things were being dragged along to extend the book.

Sara’s story along is crazy and overwhelming but to add all of the other stuff was too much. Sara is an incredible character and I am loving her growth so much. Not only her growth but everyone else’s along with her. Sara kept me from stopping, Sara had me needed to find out the truth for her.

You don’t need to add all of the extra craziness and unknown to throw us off, I was already filled with so man scenarios that adding more just was too much. I am intrigued to find out that there is another book but am also loving where the book left off. I struggled with the rating….. the ending gave you the 4th star. Happy release week.

Stephannie's 5-Star Review:
This one begins where Flickering Heart left off. Sara Browne is dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event that happened in the first book. Plus Scott and Sara are coming back together as a couple. This is very difficult to navigate for Sara and everyone close to her because they want to help and it makes it worse because she just wants to move forward and try to be "normal" again. Instead of dealing with what happened to her, she becomes obsessed with a girl who went missing the prior year.  What happens next you will have to read this book to find out.
I really loved this book and couldn't put it down. There are twists and turns that I didn't see coming and enjoyed reading this two-book series. It's fast pace, dark and I loved every minute of it. I really love a story where you can't guess what might happen next and I also love when characters grow. This book was amazing and I can't stop saying how much I loved it. I can't wait to see what this author will write next.

This book was an amazingly intense conclusion to Sara and Scott’s story. This book takes over where Flickering Heart left off. Scott and Sara have a lot going on. Sara’s life once again has been turner upside down. How will she get past this horrifying event. How is Scott going to help her without pushing her to fast. Plus Scott has his own family dysfunction to deal with. Trying to focus on something else…Sara starts obsessing over the girl that went missing from campus last year. Can she figure out what happened? Is she in danger of finding out to much information. I really enjoyed both of these books. I enjoyed The fast paced writing style and the amazing characters. The story had some sensitive subject matter that was handled very well. I am Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This is the second book in this intriguing series, and this story continues straight on from where Flickering Heart ended. Sara and Scott are starting fresh after their fallout, while navigating their relationship and college life. Distracting herself Sara becomes obsessed with the story of a student Cassie, who went missing from the university the year before, and she unleashes a secret which ricks her to the core. This is a well written story which is intense, and with loss, healing, secrets, drama, emotions, mystery, suspense, trauma, intrigue, twists, and love, which leads to a riveting and addictive page turner.
Be aware this series needs to be read in order.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Another great book by this author! I’m not much of a fiction reader, but this series has been a lot of fun to read. The suspense/mystery elements of the book are what really had me hooked. In my opinion, that is what makes this book and the series unique. I recommend this to anyone looking for a gripping story with great characters that offers something beyond the typical romance. I’m looking forward to the next book!

Sara is running down a hallway trying to find a place to hide from the looming shadow...is it him? All she can feel is terror and then...

Scott shakes her awake....she feels safer when she recognizes that she is in Scott's dorm room and not the scary dark house from her nightmares. They had only gotten a few hours of sleep as they had stayed up just holding each other being grateful to be together again...every time she had dozed off she would jerk awake fearing he was gone...taken from her again.

So much had happened the last few days and she didn't know if she would ever recover. Rick is now in the hospital in a coma after Scott nearly beat him to death. Now the fraternity president is banging on Scott's dorm door demanding to know why there was screaming coming from his room and after making sure Sara was okay pulled Scott away for a meeting. Christian had heard what had happened and told Scott he was out of the fraternity.

She hated that everyone would be blaming Scott for what happened, but they were sworn to secrecy and couldn't let anyone know he had been protecting her and was glad when her best friend Amy asked to meet for breakfast before their first class. They had just arrived at the student union building to find a large crowd and TV camera crews...did they know.? How did they find out?

But, it wasn't about Scott. It was the one-year anniversary of Carrie Stevens's disappearance. Carrie's parents and the Sheriff were making a statement that although the backpack that was found was similar it hadn't belonged to their daughter.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is book two of the Sara Browne Series and IS NOT a standalone novel. You have to read Flickering Heart first and this book starts where book one ends.

So far this series has been told solely from Sara's POV. Her unlikely friendship with Amy who couldn't be further apart in personality and appearance, her PTSD from her parent's death and trying to move on from what was being done to her.

This book is action-packed, full of danger and suspense as Sara turns her focus on the disappearance of Carrie and Rick is her number one suspect...but the more she looks the more suspects she is adding to her list. She hates herself for her doubts, but after finding out that Scott lied to her...could he be involved?

Tricia LaRochelle has written a wonderful story about friendships, betrayal and trying to cope after tragedy. Once you start you can't put this book down. Highly recommend!

This book was just as action-packed, and full of danger and suspense as book 1 of the series.

In Revive, Sara returns and does what she can to heal herself, starting therapy at a clinic called Revive, taking self-defense classes, so that she could feel more like herself and a “normal” life.

She learns of a young woman named Carrie, a student that attended the university before Sarah arrived, she has been missing for a year, and Sarah takes up the task of learning her fate. – but the case of the missing woman slowly takes her over and leads her into increasingly risky situations. In her mind Rick is her number one suspect, until some new turn of events leads her to adding to her growing list of suspects.

With Rick now in the hospital in a coma after Scott nearly beat him to death.

Arriving at the student union the girls noticed there was a TV crew there with cameras and people gathered around, what could this be about? But, when they got closer, they could see that Carrie’s parents, and the Sheriff were there making statements for the one year anniversary of Carrie’s disappearance.

She hates herself for her doubts, but after finding out that Scott lied to her...could he be involved?

The first book in this series introduced Sara as a broken character, someone struggling to heal from trauma. She met Scott in Flickering heart and fell in love with him. Revive (SARA BROWNE SERIES Book 2) takes off from where the first book ended and Sara Browne is doing her best to build her relationship with Scott while navigating college. Things aren't that easy for her as she is still haunted by events from the time she met Scott. A year ago, a girl went missing and now Sara is obsessed with her story. Does it have links with her stalker? Follow as she unearths a disturbing secret.

Tricia LaRochelle has the gift of writing characters that are believable. They are flawed, and she knows just how well to use the background of these characters to sculpt their personalities. The gorgeous writing and the depth of characterization are elements that set this story apart. I enjoyed the way Sara is conceived and developed. A lovable character whose curiosity leads her to places that force her to confront her inner demons.

After reading Tricia T LaRochelle’s first book Flickering Hearts I was eagerly looking forward to the continuation of the journey toward love, and healing between Sara & Scott. I was not disappointed in Revive. If anything, I was drawn more deeply into their pain, and the way that Ms. Larochelle was able to paint such an emotional story, one that would leave me impatiently turning the pages. I felt every moment of Sara’s struggle to overcome her past traumas as well as surviving a psychopaths ominous schemes. This book is one heck of a poignant ride, one that will leave you breathlessly awaiting the sequel. It is both an emotional story, and a thriller of the best kind.

Revive is a very intense book that kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end. Sara is trying to deal with past events in her life, but she can't stop reliving nightmares over and over again. Her boyfriend Scott is there for her every step of the way, even though he is dealing with his own personal demons. Trying to put her mind elsewhere, Sara starts to look into a case about Carrie, a missing girl from the college she and Scott go to. There was a monkey wrench thrown into this story that I never saw coming. Tricia T. LaRochelle is an amazing author, and really knows how to write meaningful stories that deal with real life situations. I highly recommend this book!

Emotionally gripping, intriguing

This emotional packed story is definitely going to drag you in head first. The twist and turns along with the feeling of deception keep Sara on edge. Going to college is hard but to deal with what Sara has had to deal with is crazy. This story is gripping and the twist and turns of who is lurking in the shadows will keep you reading. I cannot say how good this story really is to read.

Another enjoyable book featuring Sara and Scott. This was the aftermath of what had happened in book 2 so needs to be read in order. This book was about Sara rebuilding herself so was a slower pace to start. I’m glad that Sara found ways to heal. The end part of the book had lots of action with Sara trying to solve the mystery of the missing student. This part was full of suspense and excitement and kept me reading to the end. Overall a good book.

I "won" a copy of this through Goodreads. However, when I downloaded the book, I noticed that this was available through Kindle Unlimited. It didn't feel as though I won this book.

I did try to read it. I DNF'd at 5%. The trauma was just to much for me personally, to read about.

I rated it 2 stars because it does seem like a book others enjoy.

In her second installment in the Sara Browne Series, LaRochelle delivers a taut thriller as young college student Sara Browne is drawn into a dangerous psychopath’s sinister scheme. Sara is still struggling with the traumatic event of her past, finding it hard to move forward. Though Scott is there for her, she is just too scared to be close to him. When a year-old case of campus student Carrie Stevens becomes a headline again, Sara begins to obsess over the girl’s disappearance and starts looking for clues, unaware of the danger waiting for her ahead.

LaRochelle deftly sketches the story’s twisty plot and does a fine job of keeping readers invested as the narrative move forwards. She cleverly doles out information, keeping readers guessing as they delve deeper into Sara’s investigation into the missing girl’s disappearance. The fast-paced story gradually fills with surprising clues that link Carrie’s disappearance to the current mishappenings, signaling the possible presence of the culprit in the campus.

The narrative is smooth and the characterization expert: Sara’s debilitating angst and inner turmoil are vividly portrayed, and readers will find it impossible not to root for her; Scott’s overwhelming rage is equally convincing; Amy is an appealing character, smart and fiercely independent. LaRochelle keeps a tight rein on her winding plot, and the lengths that her vulnerable but strong heroine goes to in order to leave her traumatic past behind make for satisfyingly moving reading.

This is as much a novel of suspense as it’s an exploration of grief, trauma, personal choices, and courage in the face of difficulties. A solid sequel with authentic characters and a gratifyingly knotty plot.

The events of Flickering Hearts (Book 1) are over but Sara is really struggling with all that has happened to this point. She & Scott were supposed to have a fresh start but Sara has PTSD & really needs some extra help because of the flashbacks, and it's really putting their relationship at risk. As all of Sara's pain is coming at me at lightning speed, all of a sudden, things take a mysterious turn when Sara finds herself obsessed with a missing student case, and she starts to look for clues. Little did she know that danger would once again come into her life with this new journey, so the twists are coming in hot from all directions, and I found myself on the edge of my seat from then on out. I wanted to hug Sara, and I LOVED Scott who would do anything for his girl so they're definitely an easy couple to root for. I don't want to say anything else about it, so you know what to do to experience it all for yourselves as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
