My ex-wife is the only one that can save me. Guess I shouldn’t have eaten her favorite Girl Scout cookies…

You know you’ve still got it bad when you haven’t taken the wedding ring off a year after the divorce. Andy has always been the only one for me. The brawn to my brains. The hot fudge to my vanilla ice cream. The… well you get the idea.

But this isn’t the reunion I would’ve hoped for. With feral Orcs and a psychopath bent on world domination hunting us, it doesn’t exactly leave a lot of time to show her how ‘great’ I’m doing without her. Or to ask her why she left me without an explanation.

Between the fights about who actually left socks all over the apartment (totally her) and who was the biggest workaholic (maybe a tie), we start to realize that the past isn’t going to stay buried. All it takes is one illicit moment on the back of a motorcycle for us to reignite the passion that used to burn so hot between us.

Returning to a love that broke both our hearts isn’t going to help us survive. In fact it might just kill us. Problem is, we were never good at resisting one another.

Warning: Abandon is a stand alone romance in the Monsters & Artifacts series. It features a brainy, cinnamon roll Orc and a kick butt, special Agent FMC, booby traps, size difference, an Orc who's nerdy in the streets and spicy in the sheets and whole lotta Lost City Vibes. It's intended for mature audiences. CW's include debilitating illness, death of family member in the past.

Trish Heinrich’s steamy romance is fueled by caffeine and panic. When not daydreaming about the new book boyfriend she’s creating, Trish is geeking out with her two kids about superheroes, cuddling with her husband or bingeing Lucifer…again.
Devil’s Temptation is her first straight up romance and is the first book in her Celestial Superheroes Series. She writes Urban Fantasy under T.L. Heinrich because there are just too many stories in her brain for one pen name.

I’ve had this book sitting on my TBR for a looooong time because I wasn’t sure if I’d like a second chance romance with ex spouses. Trish always convinces me in the end that second chance romance has its merit.
Andy and Luke was polar opposites when it came to interests and strengths. Luke was a nerdy teddy bear who couldn’t handle the smell of sight of blood. Andy was a badass bodyguard/soldier who had a very hard time being vulnerable. The forced proximity and high stakes of their adventure facilitated honesty between them. They got to have their happy ever after and be more authentic with one another in the end. I also enjoyed the chronic illness depiction, with the fear that can be hard to grapple with.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: violence, gun violence, gore, murder, captivity, threat of cutting out tongue, mentions of torture, mentions of unethical medical experimentation, depiction of mind control, vomiting, fatal degenerative illness (blood illness, cross between Alzheimer’s and cancer), grief

This was so fun! It gave so much, and I enjoyed every bit of it! I mean it when I say it is like Indiana Jones, except there is Monster Fudging and an actual healthy love story!

The Basics
*MF Monster Romance - Orc M (Luke) & Human F (Andy)
*also, Second Change Romance; Action Adventure Romance
*part of the Monsters & Artifacts series; can be read without reading previous books; TRUE standalone, but world is interconnected
*Dual POV
*HEA
*A rescue mission and magical treasure hunt
*On page, descriptive & detailed spicy scenes; multiple occasions; plot enhancers

Andy and Luke fell in love and married while working together hunting down magical artifacts. Luke as a researcher and Andy as a bodyguard. They had passion, love, and adrenaline, but did not figure out how to translate those things to everyday life, and it fell apart. This book opens with Andy and Luke both still in love, refusing to admit it or even see each other. Luke was captured while on a mission, and Andy is sent in on the rescue mission(the boss does have some ulterior motives by sending her), which turns into a fantastic magical treasure hunt through the jungle!

Why I loved it
*A nerdy, hot monster who loves strong women, being vulnerability, dirty talk AND going out to eat? I honestly have never loved a MC faster
*A badass, hot woman who is his protector? Andy is not the type of FMC I relate to, but OMG, did I understand where Luke was coming from!
*This is second chance romance done right! Andy and Luke didn't fall apart over a huge misunderstanding leading to years of hate and rage. They simply didn't know how to be with each other and were too scared to figure out how to fix it once it started to break. It might not be dramatic, (don't worry, the rest of the story had PLENTY of drama to keep it interesting!) but it is so real and heartbreaking. The way they pined for the other through pain caused by the other was a gut punch.
*Watching them come back together and work through those hurts, process what broke them, so that they can maybe not repeat that mistake again was beautiful. They knew how much they still wanted the other, and that made them willing to take the risks they weren't before.
*I loved the adventure plot!! Can I just say one more time that I would love a nerdy Orc who gets excited about dusty maps and old books, going off an tangents about random historical fact, while walking through the jungle? Where can I find one of those?

Content Notes
*Orc specific neurological disease (similar in ways to dementia and MS)
*there is plot concerning a "Magical Cure" however, it is not a quick fix, and it is relating to a mythical creature. Research indicates the magical artifact could be a key to a cure, but will require more SCIENCE and development.
*hostage situation; Gun Use; Divorce
*Reference to Christian ideology & mystcism (but not in a theistic manner)

I received an ARC of this book. This is my unbiased reviewed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love the Monsters & Artifacts series of Standalones; each one has something unique to offer, and together, they build a rich world where monsters operate outside the notice of mundane humans with magical artifacts and lore. Abandon was such a fun read! It’s a bit of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft Tomb Raider with Harrison Ford played by a sexy orc saved by the kickass special agent FMC who saves the day while dodging bullets and looking hot the whole time (minus the awkward shower scene). It is a great blend of action/adventure and romance, pitting exes together to find a fabled treasure.

I was 100% invested in Luke and Andy’s rekindling relationship. It was easy to see why they fell in love the first time and how insecurities drove them apart. That they stayed in love with one another, even when they couldn’t make it work, broke my heart. It seemed like their reunion would have an expiration date, and they would not be able to rekindle their relationship but thank goodness for small miracles and HEAs.

The steam smolders as each remembers the feel, scent, and taste of one another, and they get distracted at the most inopportune times by spicy thoughts. Honestly, as intrusive thoughts go, they could be worse. At least these lead to a happy ending! Luke is a very giving lover and oral enthusiast. Andy loves to be claimed and to carry the marks of their joining.

I loved this couple and sincerely hope we get cameos (if not a whole book!) from them in the future.

Genre: Orc Monster Romance
Tropes/Features: Second chance, nerdy orc MMC, cinnamon-roll MMC, Special agent mundane human FMC, action/adventure, danger, treasure quest
Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF, Medium burn, steamy
Book Type/Ending: Standalone with HEA
TW/CW: Debilitating illness, death of family member in the past

When Trish talked about an Orc book I was so dang excited!!!

As always she did not disappoint Luke and Andromeda are the best second chance romance I’ve ever read!

This book hit ALL the best Indiana Jones meets Warehouse 13 notes with the bonus of an absolutely badass FMC, Andy, and a hella nerdy orc sweetheart, Luke. The plot was fast-paced, the action was believable, the history and thought put into the artifacts made it all the more fun, and the chemistry between the MCs was fire!

I don’t usually enjoy second chance romances *that* much, but I absolutely adored Luke & Andy’s. They had real problems, they had real conversations, and even though it was hard and angsty and emotional at times it was SO relatable. The tension, the dirty talk, the steamy scenes *chefs kiss* — I can’t recommend this one enough nor can I wait for the next one!!

🌶 Spice (K!nk & Variety of scenes): 2/5 (dirty talk, marking, size difference)
💦 Steam (Detail & amount of scenes): 5/5 (the. tension. Y’ALL 🥵 and we stan a man that eats like ice cream)
💕 Romance (relationship dynamics): 5/5
🌱 Character Growth/Arc: 5/5
📖 Plot: 5/5+ (the plot was fantastic, I didn’t want to put it down)
🏳️‍🌈♿️ Inclusivity: 2/5 (Dad bod, diverse characters)
⭐️ 5/5 Stars, would recommend

The relationship between Andy and Luke felt so real and relatable, that you are swept up in their feelings of love, denial and vulnerablity. Not to mention their adorable bantering throughout the mission, brings that spark of laughter that completes the story perfectly.

As this is a second-chance romance, the internal raunchy dialogue and finger-licking spicy scenes are exquisitely well-written and don't distract you from the overall story's theme. However, I admit that I loved the deeper emotional moments more, like the dancing or church scenes and any time "fish" were mentioned.

As this was my first time reading a Monsters & Artifact book, the first two chapters explained past events and characters so neatly that you won't be left stranded. The world building is clever and draws you into the adventure immediately. Not only do you have the sense of mystery and complex emotional trials leading to hidden treasure, but you also have the classic action shots like driving through a forest on a motorbike while shooting the enemy.

Mixing historical and action elements with a pinch of fantasy makes this a truly enjoyable read. You are drawn into this book with the sexy romance but stay for the rekindling of lost souls. I can't wait to backtrack and read the rest of this series!

I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

I just finished my ARC copy of Abandon, and I am still buzzing from the high. What a thrilling ride!

I was reeled into reading this with promises of Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone vibes, and Trish Heinrich really delivered on those promises. Loads of action and plot movement, interspersed with emotional tension and some really delicious spicy scenes. It definitely felt like a good blend and kept me on my toes.

I loved the use of real historical figures in the backstory, but fictionally combining them with a supernatural and paranormal twist. Just part of the very cool world-building around the "Archive" concept in this Monsters & Artifacts series.

Combining a nerdy cinnamon roll MMC and a badass hero FMC was delicious. Their character development felt relatable and realistic, so as a reader I felt the pain with them as they delved into their broken past, their terror and anxiety in the action, and I felt their delight whenever they experienced a win.

The climax felt possibly a little too reminiscent of a certain very popular film, but to be fair, it is exactly what I was hoping would go down. So I am not really complaining.

Overall, I felt it was a brilliant read, and I'm already anticipating the next book in the series!

I don’t think it is a secret when you look at my review history that I’m a sucker for orcs. Yet, I’m an even bigger sucker for an Indiana Jones-worthy whirlwind romance. So, of course, Trish Heinrich delivers all of that with Abandon.

This book hit it well in two big ways for me. I loved the riffs on Western history from Nazis to my new favorite gal, Hildegard Von Bingen. I also loved the main couple’s dynamic. Their romance was the glue that kept the kick-butt adventure awesome.

I admit I don’t normally take up second-chance romances. Heinrich has reeled me into reading and ENJOYING not one but TWO such stories. Abandon builds such a delightfully thrilling adventure that couldn’t work without these characters dealing with relationship demons.

Finally, readers should note that this story doesn’t hold back on the sexy times and also violence. Nothing is gratuitous in my opinion. They are on a dangerous spy mission though so be prepared.

Now excuse me while I go down an Internet rabbit hole on Hildegard Von Bingen.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Abandon. I LOVED this story!! The relationship between the main characters feels very real and relatable and they put in SO much work for their love. I also really really appreciated the mmc being vulnerable -- not something you see a lot. Both main characters felt believable and likeable and I was really excited by the side characters too. This was my first foray into the monsters and artifacts world and I enjoyed immensely the world building and adventure -- this checked all my nerdy, Indiana Jones, expedition unknown boxes.

Overall I give this a 4.5/5. The story was great, plot was super fun, smut was really good and present in amounts that didn't distract from the story but also didn't leave you going "WHEN are they going to bang?". In terms of monster smut, there is nothing super crazy going on (the parts appear human, just a bit bigger) but it was still so good.

I am a sucker for a good Orc and second chance romance and this book definitely delivered! It’s like Indiana Jones meets monsters and I was here for it.

This was my first book by Trish and I now need to go and read the rest because I am obsessed! Andromeda (Andy) and Luke are very much still in love with each other despite being divorced. Andy is this badass agent who is sent on a rescue mission and the last person she expects to rescue is Luke. He is such a cinnamon roll, I love it. I loved how action packed the story is and tie-ins with history. Can’t forget the passion between Andy and Luke when they come together, it’s hot 🔥. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for more of this series.

*This is the third book in the Monsters & Artifacts series but it can be read as true standalone*

Two quick Notes:
1.I received a copy of this book as an advanced reader but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
2.This is book 3 in the series, Monsters & Artifacts, but can be read as a standalone.

What I Liked:
🕯️The banter throughout reminded me so much of how Clint and Natasha constantly reminisce about their missions throughout the Avengers movies. I couldn’t get enough!

🕯️This book is the action adventure romance book you’ve been dreaming of. The dedication page says it all, if you loved Indiana Jones but wish there was way more spice and one of them was an orc…this is it. It’s EVERYTHING!

🕯️I’m not typically a fan of second chance romance, but the way they finally communicated how they felt sucked me in. Andy and Luke went on not only a physical mission, but also an emotional journey together and I think it transformed their relationship. ❤️

What I Didn’t Like:
🕯️Honestly, nothing. Trish managed to take my least favorite trope and make me fall in love with the story anyway. Amazing!

Final Thoughts:
🕯️I have loved this entire series since I discovered Trish Heinrich. Every step of the way has been fabulous. I’m just upset it looks like we have to wait until 2024 for the next installment!

It has been a hot minute since I’ve started and finished a book in one day but y’all I just couldn’t put this one down.

We have Andromeda and Luke, a divorced couple who are basically the poster couple for opposites attract. Like is this adorably geeky orc and Andromeda is an absolute baddie and definitely the brawns of the operation. Andromeda is sent on a mission to rescue Luke, who has been captured by an enemy organization. But the mission doesn’t go according to plan and the two end up on a totally different mission, one to find an artifact that holds the key to saving Luke’s life.

There is action at every turn, seriously there’s so much happening in this book that there was never really a calm stopping point. I loved watching Luke and Andromeda work together and help each other in their weaker moments (Andromeda has an extreme fear of fish and Luke isn’t too great with blood). I’m also a person who loves a good puzzle/riddle and there was definitely a little of that in here.

When you add in the romance aspect to a book I was already just hooked on you get a perfect five star read for me. The chemistry between these two is apparent from the start and I love that they take the time to work through the issues that lead to divorce in the first place.

So the tl;dr is basically that this is a book with tons of adventure, puzzles, romance, and a perfect happy ending. I love it ♥️

This book was sold to me as an orc version of Indiana Jones, and boy it did not disappoint.

You've got all the normal fantasy romance tropes, but Trish gives them a spin all her own. The female main character, Andromeda, is a badass on her own terms. A secret agent set out to get all the bad guys, and save the world. The male main character, Luke, is a muscle-bound Star Wars Nerd, who vomits at the sight of blood.

Abandon is a second chance romance in the best way, when Andromeda is given a mission to rescue her ex-husband Luke. You've got spice, and heat, and adventure, and a story that had me DEVOURING this novel in one sitting. The redemption that these two characters get was so satisfying, and so sweet. I loved every minute.

She’s been sent to extract her captured ex-husband. What she doesn’t know is the one man mission he’s on is personal and a matter of life and death. And he stills wears his wedding ring.

Our MMC is an orc who is a Clark Kent type loving history, Star Wars, and his books. Our FMC is all things tactical with a penchant for Thin Mints. This book is a fun time. Think Warehouse 13 or Indiana Jones but add in a cast of characters of the not human variety who hide behind glamours and protect the world from dangerous artifacts. Plus romance and spice!

I was crazy lucky to get to ARC this story for Trish! Andy and Luke are hands down one of my favorite book couples! Abandon appealed to my history nerd side as well as my childhood crush on Indiana Jones! Trish is crazy good at evoking adventure, a bit of angst, and sweet-hot romance all at once.

What a great story! Still building this world with so many interesting characters. The love, hurt, betrayal, and misery were all there in full color. How far would you go to save someone you love. Luke and Andy were put to the test and passed. I am so looking forward to the next test!

what a ride! figuratively and literally. indiana jones with a dripping of monstersauce and you get the feeling of this book right to a T;
two ex's, one called in to look for the other. so many unresolved issues surface as they both try to stay out of enemy hands.
one out to find an artifact/information to safe himself and a lot of others.
the other bound be rules and regulations she followed her entire career but not this time.
what a journey this was to selfreflection, hurt, truth.
what a rollercoaster when the enemy catches them.
but then how it all turn out? for that you have to read or i'm forced to spoil too much and what's the point in that?
ok, ony tiny hint, the pilogue after everything?
you better sit down for that one and start saving up bribery money, it's a doozy!!!

"All of my travels, every wonder I've ever seen, and nothing has ever compared to you."
T. Heinrich, Abandon

I think I need more shy, nerdy orcs in my monster romance books 🤩

First of all, a huge ✨️thank you✨️ to the author @trishheinrich for including me in their ARC-team and providing me with an ebook of Abandon 🙏❤️

So here's what you're getting from this amazing story:
🌙 a massive, shy and nerdy orc (who is not at all shy in private)
🌙 a badass, Latina, mercenary FMC (she can break your bones AND your heart)
🌙 an Indiana Jones type of adventure
🌙 so 👏 much 👏 SPICE 👏 from two POVs 🔥🔥🔥
🌙 a second chance romance
🌙 high stakes
🌙 ancient powerful artifacts (some actually existed or were rumored to exist)
🌙 did I mention the spice? (there's some motorcycle action too, that was a first for me)
🌙 a true psychopate villain (like this dude was legit psychotic)

I loved this so much! Like so so much, I rooted for Luke and Andy from the very first page, their heat was coming literally through my screen 😂 I have rarely read a book with a nerdy, shy, massive male character, let alone an actual ORC. They're always so fearless and aggressive, meanwhile Luke gets nauseous at the sight of blood 😂 I loved it 👏 but I also loved his character arc and seeing him take over control 🥵 Andy was great too, I loved their dynamic and the way there wasn't unnecessary resentment between them.

The story itself is also very gripping and I can't wait to dive into this world again 🫠 the worldbuilding is astounding and you can see the author put a lot of effort in the research. In the preface they give their "nerdy" side free reign and I enjoyed the story behind the artifacts of Hildegard that inapired the book, almost as much as the story itself.

This is a stand alone romance in the Monsters & Artifacts series. Swipe to see the full synopsys from Goodreads.

5 shining 🌟

- Indiana Jones meets Warehouse 13

This book was basically Indiana Jones meets Warehouse 13 but with monsters and spice. This was a funny and entertaining book and a great break from some of the darker books I’ve been reading recently.

Andromeda worked for a secret organization that recovers artifact with mysterious powers. Her most recent mission was to recover Luke, her ex-husband who was kidnapped by a rival organization in the hopes he could lead them to a cache of long lost artifacts. While on this mission Andy and Luke were forced to work together and find that despite the divorce, they were still both drawn to each other.

I really liked the switch up in this book where Andy was the skilled and dangerous agent and Luke was the nerdy but sexy bookworm.

I liked both of these characters a lot. They had amazing chemistry and they were badasses in their own way. But they were terrible communicators when it came to their relationship and I just wanted to shake them. The miscommunication trope is one of my least favorite tropes. But fortunately the were able to open up and finally talk and get a better understanding of each other.

This is the first book I've read of this author and I am totally happy I started with this book.

Now I've never watched Indiana Jones but I absolutely loved the National Treasure movies so I was all for the adventure in this book.

This is my first time reading a monster romance that involves an Orc so it was a pleasant surprise for me. With the descriptions it really help my mind picture Luke (the mmc).

This is a second chance romance with spicy times and a kick butt fmc!

I loved all the snark.
The mentions of Star Wars.
The sweet moments and the heart wrenching ones.

Andy (who is human) is called to go on a mission to retrieve her ex husband (Luke).
Once she gets there so many things happen and it doesn't slow down. I was drawn in and I couldn't put this book down.

Did I mention the spicy screens are freaking fantastic!

Who knew a motorcycle ride could be so hot 🔥 🥵

Absolutely need to read more of this authors books!

Abandon is an Indiana Jones type romance. Andy, the butt kicking muscle, protects the sexy but nerdy orc Luke as he searches for lost relics. Oh, and they just happen to be ex husband and wife.

Luke is attempting to find an ancient artifact but the organization they work for worries if it’s found, the group who wants to take over the world will use it for evil. They send in Andy to stop him knowing his ex wife, who he still has a thing for, may be the only one who can make him see reason.

As they reunite, so do their desires, but both attempt to leash them because the physical side of things was never their problem. Will this mission be a final goodbye or a new beginning?

If you like some spice, adventure, and fantasy, this is a good read for you!

A well deserved 5 stars for this 3rd book in the Monster and Artifacts series. This one made me cry y’all!

Monster romance but with a really cool quest with huge “Da Vinci Code / Indiana Jones” vibes. I love Trish Heinrich’s style, they always have a great plot and this one is filled with historical facts (of course, some are romanticized).

I absolutely loved Andromeda (a bådāss human secret agent) and Luke (a geeky Orc).

If you enjoy monster romance, give this series a try, you won’t regret it.

This was a fun adventure! It was a little slow to start but once things got rolling, I was anxious to see what booby trap they'd hit next. Andy is a badass with a knife but I loved seeing her soft moments. Luke had those tusks and a tendency to either bury his head in his books or between her thighs and I am HERE FOR IT. This book is definitely perfect for any monster romance and Indiana Jones fans.

Easily my favorite couple of the series! This has it all! Second chance romance, daring rescues and ops, a hunt for magical artifacts. And the spice! Whew! My kindle is still smoking! When Andy Kane is summoned by Director Dearborne for a special mission, the last thing she expects is it to be a rescue mission for her ex husband, Orc Professor Luke Turner. She is given one additional task: Stop Luke from finding the artifacts by any means necessary.

Luke has to find the artifacts or there could be dire consequences. But what happens when he lets Andy in on his secret? Will she choose duty over her heart?

Abandoned was such a fun and action packed book. It was a good mix of Indiana Jones adventure and the banter of Mr & Mrs. Smith. Luke and Andromeda(Andy) had me frustrated, laughing and rooting for them. Andy is a true badass. She is a tough, strong and stubborn Archive agent. Luke is one big, nerdy orc, cinnamon roll, professor and relic hunter. They both had so many flaws as individuals and ex's, but their love for each other is beautiful and passionate. When Andy and Luke come together, its clothes ripping, room ruining, break the bed spiciness 🔥🔥 The plot was full of history, adventure and mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

“‘All of my travels…every wonder I’ve ever seen, and nothing has ever compared to you.’”

Trish knows exactly what she’s doing when it comes to a second chance romance 👏🏼 between Abandon & Broken, she’s on fire.

I loved Andy & Luke so much. Luke was so swoony with him wearing his wedding ring after their divorce and wanting Andy so desperately. I felt all of their emotions as I was reading.

The plot was SO fun, holy cow. It was history meets Indiana Jones/Romancing the Stone and romance. I loved it. I was hooked from the beginning and ended up reading within like 24 hours because I just couldn’t put it down.

I really enjoy Trish’s writing so much and am so in love with this series!

When I saw that Trish Heinrich was writing a book with an orc MMC, I knew I was going to love it. And it did not disappoint!

Something about the adventure and thrill that goes so well with orcs that I adore. I love the size difference with FMCs, the swoon-worthy romance(and spice), but most importantly, the storyline that was built. This series just keeps getting better and better.

And ya'll. I would read this series even without the spice. The characters and their development are so realistic, it draws you in and keeps you in.

When I tell you this book is PHENOMENAL I mean it!

This book makes my geeky/nerdy heart so happy!!
It’s second chance ORC romance in the Monsters & Artifacts world!!

Andromeda is a total badass and I love her! Luke is so nerdy and sweet I just wanna love him!
There is so much that happens in this book that it’s impossible to put down until it’s finished!
It’s also one of those books I’ll NEED on my shelf and will reread!
