When your world is built on Magic and lies, what happens when both start to unravel?

For most of her life Seraphine has been running from her magic and her nightmares, haunted by them in a way she can never explain to anyone else, not without risking exile. Something not even Creston, the male who has kept her safe her whole life, can stop.

When the darkness in her dreams starts to take form in reality, what else can she do but fight to find the truth that will save her from it?

Because the nightmares aren’t just haunting her, she is being hunted.

By something far more powerful than she could have ever imagined.

Something from Faerie itself.

Let’s dive straight into the review. Disclaimer this took me 78 days to read due to personal matters going on in my life and physically reading or using my kindle was a struggle to focus. I feel I didn’t give this my full attention and would love to read it again in the future. Overall I really enjoyed the concept of this book and believe its four stars. I loved learning about the world Amber created. I was so intrigued by Seraphine’s power. She didn’t know how to control it and it affected the people around her. Throughout the book you get bits and pieces of who Seraphine is but you are still seeking out answers. By the end you only have fragments of who she really is. I loved Creston and Seraphine together. When Amber mentioned slow burn boy I felt it to the point I need to wait and find out in the next book. But the way it ended I need answers. I loved the dream state and nightmare storyline a lot and the boy who was taken I hope they find him in the next book!

This was a very good debut novel. I feel the author really knew her characters and it showed with how unique they each were. I loved how they all interacted with eachother. You can see the bond they have in the tight knit community they live in.

There are so many moving parts in this story and it has the potential and set up to be Epic. The world building was thorough and the settings were solid. Even the magic system was easy to follow which is so important in any fantasy novel.

The author should be very proud.

With that being said, here are some of the issues I had:

I really enjoyed every twist and turn, the problem was the aftermath of said twist. Any time something huge happened or something big was revealed the fall out fell flat.

Something that should have set off a major chain in events, was a huge deal on one page then on the next it was like it didn't matter. It had no real consequence. The characters would just hide away and do more research but no real movement took place afterwards.

These situations are meant to drive your character arc but it never really did. Until the end of course. I hope with the next book, the consequences give more impact.

Another issue i had was the characters felt very YA for being 24 and older. They were naive in a lot of ways that is expected in a book of teenagers but not an adult. Granted they are still young and live for hundreds of years but that is no reason for the FMC to be so childish in her interactions and reactions.

Creston was my favorite. I love him and every time we got to spend time with him I swooned. Which brings me to my next little issue. This was sold to me as a spicy slow burn. It was definitely a slow burn but very pg-13 level spice. Nothing past second base. That is fine in any book but it should be advertised as such.

I feel this was a YA novel with a toe into NA. Not quite there yet but promising.

Thank you to Amber Yve for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review. This is the first book in the A Blood of Midithrias series and I am definitely hooked for the ride. I really loved the magic system and how it was based on the elements. However, it was elevated and felt more complex than just earth, air, wind, water, or fire. Seraphine or Phi was full of depth and I can only imagine where her journey will go throughout the next installments. I thought the world was super cool and it felt modern while still also being fantasy. There were hints of romance and mystery that were so exciting to read. The friendships and found family aspect was so touching and I thought it really added to the narrative. I did find the beginning a smidge slow, but things really picked up and I was wholly intrigued on what was going to happen. While I loved Seraphine for being a bad-ass bitch, I also adored Creston. He was tough, but unfailingly protective and definitely had several swoony moments. I am so angry at the cliffhanger but it really just makes me more excited for more books! This a great debut and I'm fully invested now.

Thank you to Amber Yve for sending me an ARC of this book to read and review.

This is the first book in the A Blood of Midithrias series and save to say I am absolutely hooked. I loved the magic and the worldbuilding. I am so obsessed with our MC and how she is navigating through her new way of life.

The ending. OH. MY. GOD.

Amazing story, and such a thought out world. Love the character development and the relatability even in a fantasy setting.
I couldn’t recommend this enough.

Read this for the power, for the love and all of the feels.

Honestly… just amazing craftsmanship.
The way she tells the story, it’s a slow burn / slow start but it really helps to explain, learn about the characters and their world, even keep the questions flowing.
I couldn’t put it down once it really got into it!
Can’t wait to start the next book!

Thank you for choosing me as an acr reader. I loved the book so much. Literally would give a 3.9.
Loved the fantasy plot so much. What I appreciate about the book is the writer has not extracted anything from any previous books that I have ever read (and I’ve read pretty much evenly fantasy book).
Hope you guys try this too
