The Girl In The Storm

Rate this book
I never believed I’d see my daughter again. Until a mysterious girl arrives at my door in the middle of a snowstorm.

My five-year-old daughter Riley disappeared from a playground ten years ago, moments after I opened a cryptic letter from what the police believed was a deranged fan. In the aftermath of Riley’s disappearance, I tried to create a safe place for myself. I live alone in a secluded cabin in Montana, writing horror novels and hiking with my dog. Until Miranda knocks on my door, half frozen, telling me an unbelievable story. There is no reason for a young girl to be out in a storm so severe it knocked out my power and isolated me from the outside world. I know something isn’t right. After she sings a song I wrote for my daughter, she promptly disappears again. An age progression photo of Riley proves Miranda is my daughter, despite her father’s insistence that my solitary life has warped my mind. Following the clues Miranda left behind, I end up at the local library where I meet a man who brings the frozen parts of me back to life. With the help of the librarian and a local deputy, we search for the missing girl. When I finally find her, it may be too late to save either of us.

The Girl in the Storm is another fantastic thriller by Annabelle Fogerty. This book takes off on page one and you will not be able to put it down until the very last! It is a very well written psychological thriller that will make your heart jump out of your chest! Ms. Fogerty writes a descriptive story that builds up with each page, until she gets to that extremely expected ending! This is a heartbreaking story that will tug very hard on heartstrings. Riveting and mysterious, I felt a part of this story and it stayed with me long after I finished reading. I highly recommend this exhilarating thriller and I look forward to her next one.

Thank you Annnabelle Fogerty for an advanced copy of this thrilling novel in exchange for my honest review.

Lots of things that don’t add up…..

Spoiler alert: If my son had been kidnapped at age five and then suddenly showed up on my doorstep at age 15, there is no way in hell I wouldn’t have known it was him. And this was just the biggest hole in the story! Really disappointed in this book because I had such high expectations. Don’t bother reading it. First two-star rating I’ve ever given because I usually can tell if I’m gonna like a book by reading the synopsis and the reviews. Can’t believe so many people liked this one.

When horror author Natalie graves was younger she never thought she would be a mother and yet after what was supposed to be a one night stand with her accountant she was a mother and the wife. She never loved anyone the way she loved her daughter Riley one day while she was at the park watching her play and going through the mail in her purse she found what looked like an expensive birthday card but instead had a intimate picture of her feeding her daughter the day she was born and when she looked up Riley was gone. The little boy Riley had been playing with mom said her father come and got her. But Natalie knew her husband was at work and wouldn’t have come to the park and took the daughter and left. Who took her daughter and what did the card mean when it said “mine!“ it would be years before she knew and when she found out that would be other revelations that would shake the foundation she was raised on. I really thought this was a good book but without giving anything away I think the ending was a little out of character but despite that it was one moment in a long great book. The majority of the book is awesome and I thought that one little faux pas was forgivable because this is so worth reading and why people love thrillers. I received this book from Booksprout and the author but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

The Girl In The Storm is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story all in one written by Annabelle Foverty. I was totally drawn into this story from the first few pages. The characters are excellent to tell this story and bring it to life. When a young girl of five is snatched while at the park with her mother she is considered dead. Her mother and father tear each other apart. The story then flashes forward to the mother living in the mountains of Montana when a snow storm blows in and with it a young girl appears at this ladies door. While staying with her things happen which makes it appear that the young girl has reappeared and is working with someone to drive Tabitha(the mother) crazy. Things really step up and when Tabitha starts in estimating on her own the suspense is jaw dropping. When all is revealed it will shock you who is behind everything. This mystery is written in a very unique way and will definitely keep your interest. This is my first read by this author and there will definitely be more.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

A really good read. Bit slow to begin with. Twisty and surprising. 5*.

After her 5-year-old daughter disappears and her inevitable divorce, Riley moves from California to a cabin in Montana, miles from her neighbors and the road. She’s content to write and has no need for social interaction. Even when a snowstorm cuts off her power and internet service, she feels self-sufficient with her generator and stock of food supplies. But she isn’t prepared for a knock on in the night or for what she finds when she opens the door.

Of course, we all know who Miranda will turn out to be (no spoiler – it’s in the summary!) But why is she taunting Riley? What happened to her all those years ago? And when she leaves abruptly, can Riley ever find her again?

Fogerty does a great job of bringing out all of Riley’s thoughts and fears. She creates a great sense of dread, isolation, and the fear driving on treacherous roads. And she shows how Riley can learn the power of relationships.

This story is still on my mind two books later, and that, for me, is a sign of a great book!

Thanks to Booksprout and the author for an advance reader’s copy.

A great read that keeps you guessing throughout the book

This was a good read. I loved the character, Tabitha, and can relate to the inner battles she constantly faces. I also like the portrayal of the people she interacts with and how they deal with her quirks - some are immediately accepting of her and some try to shape her to what they view as normal. The twists and turns had me trying to figure out who Miranda was and who could’ve possibly taken Riley. D only thing I would point out about this book is that the ending was very quick pace. I wish it would’ve had a little more drama and struggle with the protagonist at the end. And I feel that there should’ve been a little more inner turmoil and struggle within Miranda at the end. She seemed easily swayed to turn away from everything and everyone she learned growing up for someone who was virtually a stranger. The only reason I did not get this book a five star rating was because I felt like I wanted a little more at the end.

I am still mulling over how I feel about this book.

This book gave me severe anxiety and I contemplated pulling my children out of school and homeschooling them so they can never leave me sight. It always made me desperately want to hold them and never let them go, but it’s late at night so I’ll do that in the morning.

My only two “complaints” about this book is:
Tabby pays $5,000 to get security cameras installed but only gets two and the two do not even cover the whole permitter of her house. Talk about rip off and why get security cameras in the first place, if they do not fully cover all sides of your house?

Finally, it seemed the writing style or writing pace changed have way through the book. The book in the beginning was very slow and detailed and towards halfway through, there wasn’t a lot of details and it went by fast (if I’m making sense)

A couple other things bugged me but nonetheless it was a good thriller. I will be tossing this book in the “ring” for my book club pick

Our protagonist, an author, lives in near seclusion in a cabin in a remote mountain area and writes mystery novels known for their brutality and carnage. Always near and dear in her heart and mind is the memory of her beloved daughter who was kidnapped at five years of age. While she has learned to move on with and go through the motions of life the sadness within her permeates her life. During a snowstorm a girl knocks on the cabin door………This is where my heart really started pitter pattering, something did not feel right about this whole scenario. From this point to the end of the book there is a menacing undertone and I could have never guessed the sick depravity of the mastermind behind the evil kidnapping. I was left for a few days with a sense of disbelief and sadness. A great thriller that kept me engaged and guessing! I’ll be back for more of this authors books!

This is the first book I have read by Annabelle Fogerty, but I will certainly read more. Her writing is face-paced, keeps you reading, and extremely interesting,
Riley has begun a successful writing career and her thrillers are selling well. Then, on a trip to the park, her daughter (age 5) is kidnapped. There are no good leads, and eventually it ruins her marriage. She moves from California to a secluded home in Montana where she continues to write but has very little social life.
During a snowstorm, a teenager appears at her door having broken down on the road. Riley takes in Miranda and feeds her and gives her a bed. But something strange is happening. Miranda reminds her of her daughter and when she hears her singing a tune to herself, her suspicions are aroused. She made up the words to that song and used to sing it to her daughter.
When Miranda disappears without saying goodbye, she begins to investigate further. With the help of a librarian who also becomes a love interest, the story continues and gets more and more exciting. Read this book if you want to be glued to your chair and love suspense.

Let me start by saying .... WOW!!!! I absolutely loved this book! The author brings strong characters and weaves a tragically heartbreaking and mysterious story that grabbed and held me from start to finish. She does a fantastic job building the suspense, terror and anxiety and paints her scenes perfectly with her descriptive writing. You can feel the emotions Tabitha has as she goes through the loss of her daughter and all the struggles she has to deal with. She had me glued to the pages trying to figure out who was messing with her and why and surprised me with the ending. It's well written, moves fluidly and is a terrific read. Loved and Highly recommend reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

I didn't hate this book, but it dragged for me. While I certainly understand trauma and it's affects on a person (been there), it became tedious to read Tabitha's inner thoughts about the same thing over and over again, questioning whether or not she was crazy, imagining things or actually on the right track.

The plot itself was fine and I appreciated the interspersed chapters from Miranda's perspective as it really gave a lot more detail to what was really going on. The "shocker" at the end was not something I saw coming either which is always welcomed in a book.

I just couldn't go higher than 3 stars since easily half the book could have been left out with the repetition of Tabitha's self doubt and the book would have still been fine.

Good thriller. Tabitha has survived a severe childhood trauma which has completely colored her adult life. She is a successful horror novelist, but sometimes loses focus and is rather anti-social. Her five year old daughter is kidnapped, never found, and presumed dead. Tabitha can not accept her daughter's death and that leads to the end of her marriage. Ten years later, during a storm a young, nearly frozen, begs for help. Thus begins a series of incidents leading Tabitha to suspect Miranda of being her long lost daughter. Very suspenseful with a number of people and reasons for Tabitha being tormented. Very entertaining read!

Good book

This book grabs you in the first chapter and keeps you intrigued until the very end! I read it in one sitting. Tabitha, the main character, has a few quirks that are explained in the acknowledgement. Her daughter, Riley, is taken at 5 years old and never found. Tabitha is a famous, successful author. Her marriage is over. She just wants to write and be left alone. One very cold and snowy night, a young girl shows up her doorstep. Tabitha knows it's her long, lost daughter or is she?

You will enjoy this book as much as I did.

This was by first book by Annabelle Fogerty and I loved it! Imagine feeling so alone you decide to live off the grid and stay to yourself only to hear a knock on the door during a snowstorm! Would you answer it? And what if the person staring back at you was going to change your entire life?

This was such a great read and had a twist at the end that I did not anticipate.

This was probably a 4 star read until the end of the book. I thought there was a good premise and even though I felt like I'd figured out what was basically going on early on, I still enjoyed the ride. But once the mystery was finally cleared up, I don't know, it just seemed to become a perfectly wrapped package with a huge bow and glitter...just a little too tidy for me. But still...if you can live with an over the top happy ever after ending...go for it. It's an interesting read.

This novel had potential and the author writes well, but it was about half the novel it could have been. It was the full story but it was told too quickly and the characters, which were good base characters, particularly the lead, were just not given enough time and space to develop. I stopped caring about them about 2/3 of the way through.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. It's not one of the murder mystery I enjoy reading but it has a lot of action and suspense. You can't help but feely sympathy for the mom. The ending was fantastic.

This was a very good book, the pain that Tabatha went through after she thought their daughter had died was intense and heartbreaking. And then the stranger appeared and it threw Tabatha for a loop. I look forward to reading more by this author. It is a definite must read.

Brilliant thriller

The characters seem real. I was not sure if the main character was was mentally messed up and imagining the events that were happening. I don't want to give away any secrets so I recommend you read it if you like well written psychological novels.
