Crescent Pass #1

A Forest Between Us

Rate this book
- Owen -
Harper Calloway is the one who got away.
Gorgeous. Vivacious. Witty. Everything my introverted self could never be. And though that single night five years ago is all I had with her, there’s no forgetting the girl who steals your heart.
So when the woman in question shows up on my doorstep demanding an annulment for a drunken Vegas wedding I don’t fully remember, it seems like a sign. A second chance to make good on that connection I’ve never felt with anyone else.
Except she doesn’t have any interest in reconnecting, even as things between us heat up the longer she stays in town. What will it take to convince her I want forever?

- Harper -
Owen Taylor is not who I expected.
Protective. Thoughtful. Humble. And the sexy lumberjack vibe he’s got going on? Who knew I was such a sucker for that?
I didn’t come to Crescent Pass to start anything up. My life is in Chicago, not the forests of the Pacific Northwest. But the longer I stay here waiting for an annulment, the harder it is to resist this rugged mountain man who shows me for the first time what it’s like to be understood. Cherished. Worshipped.
We both knew from the beginning this couldn’t last. So why has he gone and stolen my heart?

My Review:

Having only recently discovered the delight of reading Allie Winters’ unique blend of humor and spice, I continue to revel in her clever wit and amusing storylines. It also doesn't hurt that her tales are not only peppered with crisp levity but sheet-scorching sensuality as well. Once obtained, her stories tend to be gleefully devoured like a failed dieter on a binge.

I adored this endearing couple, they were both people I would enjoy knowing and spending time with. Both were smart, successful, witty, well-meaning, and hard-working, and while they were also opposite personality types, once they were finally in sync, they fit together with perfection. And oh, happy, day. This tasty missive was only the start of a new series, there is more of this delicious goodness yet to come!

Small town, second chance romance by new-to-me author, Allie Winters. This is the first installment in her new "Crescent Pass Series" and very fun to read.

One night in Vegas – a bride -- a groom – a quicky wedding. Five years later, nobody remembers it ever happening . . . and this is when things get REAL (and lots of fun, too)!

Harper Calloway and Owen Taylor were such fun to get to know. She’s outgoing and citified and he’s a bit of a recluse and stays to himself. When the girl he met in Vegas five years ago shows up on his doorstep in the middle of his forest with a big problem that needs to be solved, he sees it as a second chance with the woman of his dreams.

Without spoiling the surprises and fun, I’ll be a bit vague in saying that there were a couple of spots where the author may have stretched the realm of believability to keep the plot moving but nothing enough to turn me off or make me put the book down. It only added to the hilariousness of the situation and it's fiction after all. The older I get the better I’m accepting this whole “fiction” thing!

After enjoying this first installment so much, I’m certainly looking forward to more of the Taylor Clan and Crescent Pass, Oregon. Hopefully, Owen and Harper will make appearances in future books.

Hallmark movie lovers, listen up - this book felt exactly like watching one of those movies. It was uber sweet, relatively low angst, and packed full of small-town charm and nosy meddling family. It was lighthearted and feel-good and I so enjoyed my time with Harper and Owen.

I wasn't quite expecting Owen to be such a cinnamon roll, but honestly - I was here for it. I adored his awkward adoration of Harper, and the desperate way he cared for her. He was completely lovable and I absolutely adored him. Harper was sometimes a harder sell for me. I wasn't sure what to make of her decidedly ditzy "mistake" that led to the mess she and Owen found themselves in. I also didn't love her complete avoidance and unwillingness to look at solutions even as she admitted that her heart was involved and there was no way she was going to be able to leave Owen behind without breaking both of their hearts.

That said, I did love the way everything wrapped up. It was a quintessential grand gesture that hit my heart just exactly the right way. A Forest Between Us was a heartwarming, sweet, adorable romance and the perfect way to spend a cozy weekend. ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars

This is just a terrific sweet and steamy read. It’s a bit of slow burn as these two navigate the fact that they’ve been married for 5 years without having any contact. Oops. What happens in Vegas, doesn’t not in fact stay in Vegas.

I love how Owen sees this as his shot with the one who got away and Harper just wants this whole thing over. These two could not be more different, but they compliment each other so well. As time ticks on to getting their annulment, Harper starts to appreciate all things Crescent Pass, including Owen and his slower life that focuses only on the important things.

I feel like in a lot of these types of books (city v. country - a choice must be made) that it’s automatically the women who must sacrifice. I really loved that Owen was willing to give up everything for Harper. And i just loved how it ended!

Wonderful love story and can’t wait for more in the series!

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…or does it?

As Harper is helping her friend with wedding plans, she finds out the drunken Vegas wedding she had several years ago is legitimate. She travels to Oregon in search of her “husband” Owen only to find that he’s been pining for her ever since. He wants to make things work but she wants an annulment.

A Forest Between Us is a second chance romance with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. It is the first book in Allie Winter’s new Crescent Pass series and it can be read as a stand-alone.

Like any good small town romance, A Forest Between Us has a full cast of delightful characters including all the nosey, meddling neighbors you could want. I adore the MCs in this book. Owen is just so perfect, Harper never had a chance of not falling for him. Owen’s family is lovely and welcoming in spite of not knowing he had even been married.

This book is paced well, even through the ending. The epilogue ties up any loose ends well but leaves an opening for Kristin’s story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to seeing where the author takes this series next.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4.0 stars. Oh so very cute, sweet, slow burn romance. What happens in Vegas...too much alcohol, a trip to the Elvis chapel, and whoops! It's 5 years later and time to set things straight. Both Owen/Harper are 😍 for each other. Just takes reluctant Harper a while for her head to know what her heart is telling her. Well meaning, nosey small town characters and, of course, there's a loveable dog. Owen's siblings provide for future books. Brother Grayson and his sister's friend Abby are likely subjects, but its Owen's widowed sister Kristen who's up next.

New author for me and you can count me in for book 2. Fun read.

⁣Well, when I get to the end of a book and realize I highlighted no passages for a quote for my review, it’s a good indicator that the book was fine, but didn’t knock my socks off. ⁣

I thought this was a Christmas romance, but it’s not. It’s just a woodsy, Autumn romance. It’s second chance and close proximity and small town and city girl/country boy, and I enjoyed it. ⁣

I did love the explicit condom use, the pining on his side, and the rustic setting. I did not love the insta-love, the repetitiveness, or the obviousness of how it would all shake out. ⁣

This was a cute and quick little read I picked up for free from Bookbub/kindle unlimited after I finished a romantasy comedy. I don’t think I’ve ever read Allie Winters before, but I’ve already downloaded the next book in the Crescent Pass series!

I didn’t know what to expect, but I sort of fell in love with Crescent Pass. I’m a nature girl at heart and not a fan of the big city so Owen’s quiet little life tucked away in a small town out in Oregon was such a nice escape from actual reality. It was also a nice little palette cleanser between my endless digital and physical tbr pile full of more fantasy adventures. The premise of this (and no spoiler alert since it’s in the book blurb) is that Harper and Owen drunkenly got married in Vegas and barely knew each other. Everything that ensues is fit for a hallmark movie minus the spice. I think the spicy scenes were fairly spread out and it doesn’t consume the entire book, but ymmv. I know not everyone likes spice. I saw a review somewhere online that says hallmark fans will love this series and they’re not wrong, but they absolutely didn’t mention the spice levels so I wanted to make sure I did just in case that’s not someone’s cup of tea out there.

There’s a typo at the beginning. Classic you’re/your stuffs that I’m sure will get sorted out with another pass of editing for the e-book version. But I always like to mention these things because it doesn’t bother some people, but that’s the only thing I noticed. Solid writing overall, side characters that make me wanna stay in the series forever and an adorable German shepherd. The one thing that might be a negative for some readers is that Harper is kind of frustrating in how much she clings to her old life and is resistant to the obvious way her life is changing. But isn’t that all of us? So, I think it’s pretty realistic in that sense, but for sure she didn’t need to run poor Owen’s heart through the wringer until she warmed up to everything. If you want a quick little romance read I’d say give this series a try. I’m a sucker for small towns secluded in nature though so I’m biased. 😛

Goodreads: I gave this 4 stars here on Goodreads since we can’t do anything in halves, etc. Honestly I waffled between the 3.75 on fable and a full 4 stars. I think it’s a 3.75 for me overall because of harper. She just was so dang resistant and I was yelling at the pages in my mind like “just go be with the man!” Lol.

I’ve read this author’s books in the SmartyPants Romance Universe books and really enjoyed them. So when she reached out to see if I’d like to try this one, I was definitely interested. While I couldn’t fit it in when it was released, I was able to get to it a couple weeks later. And it was a really good read! I liked both characters a lot.

The fact that Harper thought her marriage in Vegas wasn’t real was hilarious. Actually it happened to Penny in my favorite tv show, The Big Bang Theory, which made me crack up right away. Owen was such a sweet guy, that I did get a bit frustrated when she was so adamant about not giving him a chance to see if there was actually something there. I was glad that so many things conspired to make her have to stay and spend time with him.

Based on her own family, it was so nice to see what Owen’s family was like and how they instantly took to her. The small town was fun, loved the librarian too. I think she’s going to be getting her own story as part of this series from what I read at the end of the book. In fact, I’m very excited that this will be a series and we will get stories for all the siblings in Owen’s family. Because I really liked all of them. Even his absent brother got a phone call in and will be hopefully coming home in future stories.

The steamy moments were perfect, especially that one out on the front porch. Kinda makes me want to find my own perfect guy who lives out in the woods like that, lol. My only issues with the story have to do with her constant not giving him a chance, at least outwardly, I was pleased that inwardly she was seeing the possibility. And then I also wonder if I missed something about why Owen lived so remote and away from everyone. I get that he was a major introvert, but I feel like I needed some more specific reason as a lot of people kept mentioning it.

A great story, great start I hope to a new series that I can’t wait to read more of!

***5 Stars***

This was a fun, sweet, smexy and at times frustrating small town, opposites attract romance. The characters were all well written and I really didn’t want to say good-bye when there were no more words to read.

Owen and Harper. I gotta say, I loved Owen. He’s a bit of a recluse and definitely doesn’t like anyone nosing about in his business, but the man has a heart of gold. Harper is feisty. She speaks her mind, is open to trying new things and is driven and has that “thing” about her that draws people to her in any situation.

Their journey is definitely a unique one and I will readily admit to saying “Seriously?!?” when it came to the whole Vegas marriage/annulment situation, because on one side of the situation, I totally got it, the other side…ehhh…it took a minute to realize that yes, that could happen. But once I moved past that issue, I really loved watching Owen and Harper fall for each other. They are opposite in so many ways, but they fit. They had chemistry and flow, even when things were awkward, and showed just how good they could be together if they would only let themselves.

As I said before, this was a fun read. The small town, everyone is all up in everyone else’s business vibe was strong and the town was filled with great characters. And speaking of characters, I don’t have a fav amongst the residents of Crescent pass, but Cheryl is a hoot and I really liked Kristen and Abby and Duke was a sweetheart and I cannot wait to go back and watch as the next one falls to Cupid’s arrow.

Sweet, sexy and delicious
5 stars

I am a big fan of Allie Winters so I was delighted to hear that she was starting a new small-town series set in Crescent Pass in Oregon, focussing on the Taylor siblings. But fear not, each book will be a standalone and, like this one, has its own HEA. First up is baby brother, Owen, and his surprise wife, Harper.

We first meet Harper, a marketing strategist who lives her best life in the city with her friends, when she realises that not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. On paper, she’s not necessarily a heroine that I could identify with, but from the first, I loved her. She was relatable, fun, kind, quirky, self-deprecating and honest - if perhaps a little stubborn and closed-off with regards to Owen and any future they may have. She’s definitely not the ditzy city girl who doesn’t do the country, wearing high heels on a hike type of thing - thank goodness.

Owen is something of a lumberjack, cinnamon roll hero that despite his sweet nature, is still gruff and delicious and all sorts of mountain-man fantasy come to life. I loved that on top of this, he’s a card-carrying introvert but feels an immediate connection with Harper and, for the most part, isn’t afraid to tell her. There’s just something wonderful about him and his deep, unshakable feelings for Harper. The way he wants to worship her. I wonder if Crescent Pass to mail-order husbands?

There is something of a slow-burn between our couple as they get to know each other again. But that slow burn features some tasty pops of heat that prepare us for the big moment. And even then, the big moment only comes after some appetisers that will make your eyes roll back in your head with the sheer deliciousness of the couple. This pair have chemistry, both in a sexual way, as well as on a deeper, more personal level. Utter perfection.

I’m always on the edge of my seat when we get a true ‘opposites’ couple. When there’s something that isn’t an easy compromise that will let them be together. In this story, Harper is a city girl from Chicago while Owen is an introvert from a small town in Oregon. Just that, ratcheted up the tension for me as I worried over whether they’d make it work. I mean, of course they will, but I love an author that can make me feel that pull even when I know what the outcome will be.

Allie Winters has kicked off the Crescent Pass series with a fantastic book that I couldn’t put down. It had everything I love in a romance - a wonderful couple, palpable chemistry and a richly built story in a vivid setting. Add to all of that Ms Winters’ ability to draw me in and make me part of this story and you’ve got, for me, one of my top reads for 2022. Easily 5 stars and I cannot wait for Kristen and Grayson’s stories in the future.

Thank you Allie Winters for giving me this book to read and review!

I hadn’t read anything by Allie Winters before so I don’t know if she does this with all her books but she really ticked ALL the boxes with this one! I love a good small town / second chance romance and this was it – the small town vibes and all the different characters were great, the setting was wonderful (and I would really love to visit Oregon in the fall), and both Harper and Owen felt true with their thoughts and emotions. I was so pulled in by the story that I could really feel all the pining, hesitation or bold leaps of faith.

Harper and Owen had met briefly in Vegas and hadn’t seen each other in five years until Harper shows up on Owen’s doorstep. Harper has a life in Chicago whereas Owen lives in a small mountain town in Oregon where he pretty much keeps to himself. Harper had planned to be in and out of Oregon in a day but ends up staying for longer and the friendship that develops between the two main characters was beautiful to read. They both start to wish they could stay together but understand that it’s impossible. Throw in some hiking and waterfalls, a cute dog, adorable nieces and nephews, cooking lessons and meddling townspeople, and you’ve got yourself a cozy and swoony autumn read with all the feels!

OOOH, did this book just give you everything you needed in a contemporary, small town romance. I loved the connectivity she offered to her characters. She didn’t tell me about their personality traits through characters but showed them through their actions which made every single character extremely likable.

OWEN. LAWD. Immediately adding to my book boyfriend list! Owen is an unattainable, grumpy mountain man that FALLS FIRST. and boy does he fall hard. I was swooning at his love for Harper before he even realized it was there through all of his actions toward and for her.

Harper really truly is such a relatable character to so many women. A wounding childhood, the feeling of being alone when you’re surrounded by people, and the feeling that everyone is moving on around you. I think we have all related to at least one of these at sound point. Her character development was *chef kiss* We truly watched her learn to love and accept love throughout this novel.

You’ll find:
-Found Family
-Small Town Romance
-Second Chance Romance
-Forced Proximity
-Grumpy/Sunshine
-Accidental Marriage

I mean, it truly fills all the boxes! This was my first read from Allie Winters and i’m already excited to see where the rest of this series goes!

Thanks so much to Allie for supplying me an ARC for an honest review!

I love a good small town, second chance romance! Put in a mountain man living in the forest and I was completely sold!! You know the saying "everything that happens in Vegas stays in vegas" well..... marriage isn't one of those things and poor Harper wasn't aware of that five years ago when she was drunk and married Owen! Fast forward and she finds out that indeed a marriage in Vegas is legit and now wants to get a annulment. So she hops on a plane and finds Owen but little did she know that she would end up falling for this amazing man! Owen loved her from the beginning five years ago and new then that she was the one for him! This was slow burn on the aspect of figuring out that they were definitely right for each other. A few nice spicy scenes and a whole lot of time to make up for but in the end they finally figured things out!! Absolutely loved this story and definitely recommend it.

Thank you Allie for the giving me the opportunity to read this book!

Harper believes what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. She believes that with Vegas weddings until 5 years later she realizes her wedding was real and official. Now she has to track down her mountain man husband Owen and asked for a annulment. But Owen has other plans.

This is a RomCom that gives you all the feels! I really feel in love with both characters from the beginning and their family’s. Allie made me want to book a one way ticket to Crescent Pass. Allie goes into detail to where you can picture the story but doesn’t bog down the book.

I was laughing and getting the lovey feels. The spicy season are gold. She writes spice so taste and it doesn’t take away from the story.

What a lovely novel to read to be introduced to a new-to-me author.

I couldn't believe the stupidly innocent naiveté of Harper when she discovers that a Vegas wedding is, in fact legal.

When she tracks Owen, her husband, down. He is as surprised as she, that they married one drunken night.

Whilst waiting to discover their fate, Harper and Owen initially co-exist only to realise that they actually like each other...and more.

This is a seriously sweet and naively innocent love story that will lighten even the darkest hearts. Don't be misled though, our quiet mountain man has some serious moves!

A lovely read for a cold afternoon by the fire...or anytime really!

This sweet, sexy story was everything I’d hoped for. The storyline was entertaining, the characters were likable, and I was completely engrossed in the outcome. Obviously, a HEA is expected ( and delivered!), but our heroine was incredibly stubborn to get there. And Owen. Swoon! He’s such a grumpy teddy bear! I absolutely loved him. I’m definitely excited to read Kristen’s story!

New to me author so yay new backlist!! :)

Very easy to read! I mean, Owen definitely was my favorite! I wanted to see what was going to happen between Harper and Owen so I couldn't put this book down.

I like how there really weren't any "villains" and there really wasn't any "angst" per say. I like all the family and friends!

I can't wait to read the second book and more from this author!

A Forest Between Us by Allie Winters is a sweet read focusing on Owen and Harper. Owen and Harper have a history. Harper doesn’t believe that she is married to Owen, after all it happened in Vegas, but when she comes to the realization that it is in fact true, she needs to go out into the boonies to find Owen and get him to sign an annulment, only Owen wants to reconnect, but Harper doesn’t want to. What happens when two people from opposite ends of the scale come together…well we’re about to find out.

Owen is definitely the quintessential rugged mountain man with a soft heart, and he genuinely cares for Harper who is a city girl through and through, albeit a little naïve when it comes to certain things, and it definitely takes her a while to get used to the country. Both characters are destined to be together in this sweet and funny romcom and it is a start to a new series. Overall, a really good read to while away some hours.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

2025 review:
Oh, Owen Taylor...the big ol' puppy dog that you are!

2022 review:
This book came to me completely by chance and... it was just the loveliest surprise!

It's the perfect read if you're looking for an opposites attract, second chance romance between a city girl and small town boy.

The story gets straight into it with Harper finding out that Vegas weddings is actually a legal thing and that she's been married to Owen Taylor for 5 years... Now, Harper is determined to track down Owen and hope that it's possible to get an annulment from a man that she hasn't seen or heard from in years... (This is terribly vague and poorly summarized, but it's amazing, mkay...)

I truly do appreciate the fact that the author got straight into the story, which made the reading experience just so easy to get into. It was just the fluffiest story with a slowburn process, but the spice/chemistry between Owen & Harper made my heart into a gooey mess.

As soon as our mc's met, I instantly knew that I would be hooked on their romance, as they just had these comforting interactions.
Owen absolutely owned my soul! He's the sweetest recluse that has been holding out hope for another chance with Harper, and I just... have no words...only feels

As much I adored the moments between mc's, I have to appreciate Owen's meddling family as well. They were just as special, and my heart is so happy that the siblings will also get their own stories. The anticipation has me in a chokehold. I simply can't wait!

I don’t even know where to start. I loved Owen and Harpers story so much! I just loved everything about this book. From the setting, to the characters, the romance, the spice. It all just is so well put together. If you love a small town, second chance, forced proximity romance… you have to check this out. It really just checks all the boxes for me. There wasn’t a character I didn’t like. Owen is an incredibly respectful, romantic mountain man that tends to like to be on his own away from people. and Harper is outgoing, fun, impulsive city girl who genuinely loves being around people. She’s the golden retriever of humans If you will. They couldn’t be more opposite but their mutual attraction is something they have in common. The tension in this book is palpable and not redundant or annoying. It’s just right for what’s going on in their story. Will they find their happily ever after with each other? Or by going their separate ways? You have to read their story to find out!

This book was just OK. My biggest issue was that it was at a grade school writing level. The MMC was really sweet. The FMC was just average and kind of boring.

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Tropes: second chance romance; forced proximity; Vegas wedding; small town romance; found family

A Forest Between Us is the third book I’ve read by author Allie Winters. Winters has an easy way of storytelling, and she engages her reader quickly in her stories. Her newest story follows Harper and Owen, a couple who spend a night together in Vegas and marry each other. The story begins 5 years later when Harper realizes that the marriages in Vegas are actually real. She finds Owen and travels to ask him for an annulment. Due to many incidents, she spends several days with him…in his home…by themselves. What happens…well, what happens in Oregon stays in Oregon.

Let me start with the aspects of A Forest Between Us that I struggled with:

I’m not a fan of insta-love. It moves too fast for this reader. I would have liked for the beginning of this story to spend more time developing their backstory, but eventually, Winters finds the groove for this couple. In the middle to the latter part of the book, I was invested in Harper and Owen.
Harper is intelligent. Really, she is. However, the believability of her thinking Vegas weddings don’t count was low. Maybe it’s because I live in California, a state that borders Vegas. I’m not sure, but I had a hard time believing that Harper would have that understanding.

Now, as to what I loved about this story:

Other than Owen’s insta-love, he is the pinnacle of this story, the reason you should read it. Honestly, he’s a little beta here. When he and Harper finally hit the bedroom, he likes himself a bossy woman. But it’s the way he adores and cherishes her that makes him a swoony romantic hero. His ability to ford streams, carry the woman through the forest, cut wood, and sundry other physical tasks also make him every romance reader’s dream.

The world that Allie Winters is building here is an interesting one. I’m invested in the other characters of the story, namely Owen’s siblings. I want to read more from Winters in this world because there is something idyllic here, but there are real-life problems. The world of A Forest Between Us is one I want to spend more time in.

The found family trope is probably one of my favorite tropes as it reminds us that we are not alone. If we have horrible blood relations, we can construct a family of friends who meet our emotional needs. Winters shows us the power of this through Harper’s friendships with her best friends and with her inclusion into Owen’s family. In both groups, Harper receives the love she didn’t feel growing up, and it’s a promise to us all that we can find people to love us.
Allie Winters’s A Forest Between Us was a cute read at a time when I needed something a little sweet, a little spicy, and a little small-town. Don’t miss this one. I think you’ll find yourself smiling wide for Harper and Owen’s journey.

3⭐️s

“I know you’re not perfect. But you’re perfect for me.”

I want to start by saying 3 stars from me is not a bad book. This was good! It’s such a cute, fluffy and eventually steamy romance that is easy to breeze through!

A Forest Between Us by Allie Winters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Tropes: second chance, one bed, grumpy sunshine, accidental marriage, outdoorsy man city girl, insta love

Here’s what I loved:

The story
I love the drunken Vegas marriage and the second chance romance at play here. I think the 5 year gap of time makes for an interesting rekindling too.

The characters
Owen is h-o-t hot! I love me a good rugged mountain man! Maybe it’s because I was raised on a farm, but a man whose got softer hands and more style than me is just a turn off. Leave your boat shoes at the door. Someone else’s door. I like ‘em rugged and Owen is rugged! Harper is fun and quirky. I liked watching her struggle to assimilate into the country. I also love Owen’s mom and sister. The overly loving and doting mother is Cheryl to a T.

The ending
I enjoyed how this story wrapped itself up in regards to Harper and Owen. I mean, who doesn’t love grand romantic gestures? It was cute and very “happily ever after”.

Here’s what I didn’t love:

The “it happened in Vegas, I didn’t know” scenario
I struggle to believe that someone doesn’t know that a marriage in Vegas is still a real marriage, especially coming from Harper who is cultured and worldly. From Owen I could maybe see it since he’s a mountain man hermit of sorts, but Harper is up to date with culture. I do like that she recognizes how dumb that is, but at the same time, I just struggle to believe it in the first place.

The pacing
The beginning happens somewhat fast and abruptly. The girls are out to brunch, she’s discovering Vegas marriages are real, and then she is at Owen’s doorstep all within the first 15 pages. The rest of the book mellows out and the pacing gets a lot better; however, there are still moments that feel glossed over or hurried along.

Kristen’s story
I like Kristen’s story, so my reasoning for putting it in my “what I didn’t like” section is not her side story itself, it’s that we get little tidbits about her and her struggle throughout the story, but none of it gets wrapped up in any way by the end. Things are mentioned and then it’s just over.

*Out November 16*

Thank you Allie Winters for the Arc in exchange for an honest review! As always, all opinions are my own.

“What was a forest between us, blocking our view, keeping us apart, suddenly clears.”

A Forest Between Us is a terrifically sweet and steamy read! Thank you so much Allie Winters for the opportunity to read and review this book early!

The woodsy small town vibes in this book were so cozy! I loved the scenes Owen and Harper spent outdoors hiking as well as the time spent in his cabin. Owen’s profession as a woodworker and all of the descriptions about his furniture also sealed the deal for me!

Owen is such a wonderful book boyfriend. I haven’t read many instant-love romances, but Owen makes me want to read a ton more! I cannot get enough of the way that he talks about Harper! You can tell that she is the light of his world and that he would do anything for her. I also love male main characters that are artists (Jack from Lease on Love and Daniel from Part of Your World — I’m talking to you!), so that was a big plus for me! And finally, despite enjoying a fair share of isolation, I love how family-oriented Owen is. You can tell that he cares deeply for his mother and sister, and the way he interacts with Jenny and Jamie is adorable.

I was a little skeptical about Harper at first, but I quickly came around to loving her. For a majority of the book, she wears these rose-colored glasses that idealize her life in Chicago. She eventually comes to realize that things have changed and that a better life awaits her. Nonetheless, Harper is this incredible, dynamic character that you can’t help but feel drawn to.

*This might be a potential spoiler, but I can’t help but mention it.*

The thing I loved most about this book was Owen’s grand gesture at the end. While it is Harper who ultimately moves to Crescent Pass, Owen was completely and utterly ready to give up his quiet, introverted lifestyle by moving to Chicago with her. The book details Owen’s love for the town and his simple ways which makes the gesture mean so much more to us readers. For me, it is very refreshing to see both parties being equally willing to make a big sacrifice, rather than just the female main character.

This book would make a great addition to your fall TBR!

Meet Owen y'all!!!🌶🌲🌶🌲🌶

⭐️ AHHHH OWEN!!!!!

This was fun and sweet to read and got me out of a reading slump I have been nursing for weeks. I am also in dire need of running for the mountains myself! (and that is a lot to say cause hmmm, let's say I am kind of an urban girl to the bone) but hey, truth be told, I am into rugged men that work with their hands!!!! And Owen's craft as a woodworker and all the descriptions about his works of art mmmm...damped my panties.

He's also such a wonderful book boyfriend, caring, sweet, talented, family-oriented, a gentleman, hot, and just swoony!

Did I mention he was rugged?🥵

I'm not usually into insta-love, accidental Vegas marriages but for some reason this book engaged me and got me devouring it pretty much in one sitting.

Owen won me over right away and I loved the grand gesture at the end.♥️♥️♥️The fact that  sealed the deal for me!

Harper grated a little on my nerves with her determination to get an annulment and it ended up kind of aggravating (honestly wanting me to delete a whole star) but oh man, she had no chance of not falling for our mountain of a man here! Owen was such a good balance to Harper and I just swooned over how devoted he was to her-she was one lucky bitch to have him infatuated like that!

That's right baby, is it itchy??🌶🌶🌶

Title: A Forest Between Us (Crescent Pass #1)
Author: Allie Winters
Hero/Heroine: Owen & Harper
Tropes: Second Chance, Small Town,

TW/CW: Death of a parent (off page), dysfunctional parental relationship,

THE GOOD 😀

Oh my god, this book, talk about giving me the heart eye emojis. I loved everything about Owen, Harper and their wonderful relationship. When a brunch with her two best friends ends up with a bit of a wake up call for Harper, she realises she has a situation that desperately needs sorting. Two thousand miles later, she ends up on Owen’s doorstep to drop the mother of all bombshells on him.
Let me tell you this - Owen and Harper were just so bloody adorable, I loved them and their combustible chemistry. You could tell that they had serious feelings for each other, however their situation, and the literal distance between them, was like a dark cloud above their heads.
One of the things I loved most about this pairing was that Harper was the confident, extroverted one in their relationship. Owen, ever the introvert, complimented her so well and was so caring and considerate when it came to Harper and her feelings. I also loved the fact that Harper had her found family in Owen’s mother and sister. Despite the odd situation, they took her into their close knit family and treated her as if she was their own, which put the biggest smile on my face.
An incredible second chance romance, A Forest Between Us is one story you definitely don’t want to miss. Especially as Owen is the ultimate lumberjack snack, just sayin’.

THE BAD ☹️

That there aren’t any lumberjack snacks that live in a cabin in the forest near me. I don’t even live near any forests. Absolutely. Gutted.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: A wonderful and engaging second chance romance that gave me all the feels
