Dori: a collection of poems

Rate this book
Dori is a belief that we are stitched with the same thread of the same fabric despite being hyphenated by many differences. It is a belief that at every stage of life we go through a whole gamut of emotions which – if we start sifting through – would bring to light a process similar to that of thread-making.

While there are many stages to this beautiful process, what really caught the interest of an internationally acclaimed poet and author Vinati Bhola, are the three simple steps: Cleaning, Combing, and Spinning. Dori is divided into these three chapters and each chapter will hold your hand and walk you through poems crafted carefully to fit into their individual themes.

“you have had a long
journey.

you have
crossed
too many stories,

sung too many ballads,
written too many poems

to find the one
that begins with a soft thud,

kicks you in the gut
and brings you
back to life.

how does
that make you feel?”

'Dori a collection of poems' is a remarkable take on bravery, self-healing, love, hope, and grief.
Poetry is a form of literature that is self-explanatory of emotions and experiences and Vinati is just an excellent artist of this form. Vinati's poems are realistic, and heartfelt with the tonic of wordplay and profound expression.
'Dori- a collection of poems' is segregated into three specific parts: Cleaning, Combing, and Spinning.
Cleaning focus on detoxification that consumed our energy in the wrong. Cleaning significant emphasis on the core of one's being- forgiveness to self, healing from scars of pasts are few amongst the majors.

Combing focuses on healing, setting priorities on untangling the knots to experience freedom. Combing,  part 2,  of the book, is all about calmness after the inner revolt is won. But did anyone forget the historic wars, then how can a person just forget his scars? Combing has a beaming effect on the ones you read when you reach the end of hopes.

Spinning is a versatile part that ends the book on a very positive and hopeful note. It gathers together the broken pieces and gives us the strength to hold on. We often push the new beginnings with preoccupied thoughts of the past. Part 3 teaches us to absorb everything.

I feel some poems written here are so significant. We often pressurize ourselves to excel beyond our expectations and sometimes without anybody competing with us. The first is self-introspective in their norm of writing. They question you from the pinnacle of your vulnerabilities giving us a sense of 'someone's listening. Someone at least understands'. Some poems throw courage. Strength to cope with life's impossible downs.
This book, I felt, is more about the healing from the scars done by another person and not by the unforeseeable situations in life.

Vinati has a way of expressing nights. We all know that if nights are romanticized for lovers, it also becomes a gateway for haunting thoughts and loneliness.

As an overview, this poetry book is a keeper, a listener, and a 'beautiful book' is just an understatement. 'Dori' actually ties her readers to themselves, which is very important.

The Hindi word "Dori" means thread. Although there are many ways in which individuals differ from one another, pain is one thing that we all experience.

The author skillfully draws a parallel between the making of thread and getting over hurt.

The poems assist us in the initial stage of cleaning by removing items from inside that no longer belong there.

The poems in this collection will help you with the second step of combing by directing you to remove mental ruts and furrows and arrange the disorganised strands in a straight line free of any type of knots.

The poetry in this collection will nudge you to abandon safety gear and plunge into uncharted waters as the third and last step.

The author expresses her anguish in her own unique way. The poetry act as guiding hands that pull you out of the shadows. The deep and meaningful poems of varying lengths create a unique impact.

I gained hope from the poems that things are not as horrible as it seems. It helped me feel happier and more at ease. Some of the poetry had bullet points to make it more appealing and easy to understand. The language is clear and calming.

Overall, it's a beautiful poetry book that serves as a guide for all the sinking ships.

Something about Vinati and her perspective provides me with a lot of calm and positivity in life. She has a very calm and subtle way of portraying her thoughts which are heavy and deep in nature, so this contrast and the combination of poetry brings a wave of emotion that one is not ready for, yet welcomes it with open arms.
Her previous book had the same impact on me and I am not surprised with this one because it just as amazing as the previous one but better.
The book starts with an explanation of how it is divided and what can we expect from each one of them. The book is divided into three parts that are Cleaning, Combing and Spinning, inspired by the process of thread making, bringing it to the origin and the title of the book. Each part has its own significance turning the entire book into a journey of cleansing, eliminating and moving forward.
Vinati has a very simple and subtle way of expressing her perspective and turning it into poetry.

I would recommend this book to every poetry fanatic looking for simple, subtle and elegant style of poetry.
