The third and final installment of the Shattered Trilogy!
Spoilers below:
After a bittersweet victory, Blaine and his friends head to the Forest of Ancients to free Lexica from the Rift. But as the barrier grows closer to breaking, the undead in Olaren surge in power, Selenious struggles with the Lamentation of Magic, and Helm's mages wreck havoc on the world.
Emily Huffman is the author of The Shattered Trilogy, an epic fantasy series. Before becoming an author, she worked in fraud—but now she leaves stopping the bad guys to her characters. If she’s not writing, you might find her cosplaying at various conventions, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or playing video games/board games!
So, the four Lamentations are trying to bring bag the goddess Lexica to stop Helm, and things, as usual, do not go quite as planned.
This was probably my least favorite out of the series only because it seems like the characters stopped growing and went backwards. There was a lot of complaining and a lot of "we should do this" but Blaine, or Selenious are both saying "no I don't want to", only thinking about themselves and their feelings and not about the world that is about to end! It seems only Lilliana and Braxxton were the more mature ones(and that's saying a lot!).
It also seemed like the story kind of dragged and I just wanted it to reach the climax, but when it did, it seemed rather anticlimactic and a bit odd how it just ended.
The world and the idea of the world I love. I just never really connected with any of the main characters, except for Braxxton and Lilliana. Those two were my favorites! Braxxton was always a lot of fun and I like how mature and rather logical Lilliana was throughout the series. Those two were the perfect balance and I shipped them hard! lol!
Anyways, overall, I really enjoyed the series, and wish the ending was a bit shorter and more climactic, and I wish the characters had better growth by the end of the series, but this is a unique series, and I think others would really enjoy this series, so don't allow me to sway you because you may love this series and may love how it ends! I look forward to seeing what else Emily will write next!
I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had the pleasure of being an arc reader for this book, and it was a great way to complete the trilogy! It was definitely a heavy book, and the main battle was epic, but there were also some heartwarming "aww" moments in there too. The characters grew so much! And the action was fast paced, even more so I think than the other books, which I liked.
Soooo much happened in this book…. I don’t even know what to say! Such an amazing book, it was so good. The action was top tier, kept me on the edge of my seat. And I absolutely loved the ending, such a great ending and wrap up to the series. I will always recommend this series. I’m so happy to have experienced it and made a friendship with author Emily Huffman! 🥰
I didn't want it to. I even stopped reading at my usual pace just to enjoy the world for a little bit longer... But it had to come to an end. A very thrilling ending to a wonderful trilogy. Can't wait to see what else this author brongs us.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book. Wow. Um wow. This was an awesome book. I loved the journey each character took. This has been an amazing series well worth the read!!
When it comes to the conclusion of a series, especially a trilogy, I care so much more about the pay off. I want an ending that feels satisfying, I want to see the growth and arc the characters have gone through, and I want a final fight that makes sense and doesn’t feel underwhelming.
And this book DELIVERED! There were definitely some slow points towards the start, but the final confrontation felt like a really good display of the skills and powers the MCs had acquired throughout the series. The ending was satisfying and made my heart happy after the SUFFERING I dealt with at the end of book two. And from beginning to end, I could see how the characters had grown while still remaining true to the core of who they were. When I finished the book, I smiled a contented smile.
This is 100% a solid conclusion to the Shattered Trilogy and makes it a series I HIGHLY recommend. Thanks to the author for the eARC!
Fave Quote: We all have our stories, with sorrow and beauty, with light and darkness, with beginnings and endings
Shattered Worlds felt slow to begin, but then the action really ramped up. As the final book in an epic fantasy trilogy, the inevitable battle scenes didn't disappoint. There were some emotional deaths, but thankfully less than I was anticipating. Found family has been a major theme in this series, so to see tensions running high within the group was surprisingly refreshing. I also feel like the pet skeleton deserves a shoutout simply for existing
