‘This is a fine romance’ – An effervescent and thrilling new novel!

California author Landry Yves has served in the business industry and now makes her literary debut with THE THINGS NOT SAID, an impressive mystery romance that is delivered with poetic force. Her gift with words is evident in the opening page as a nightmare is occurring: ‘After several moments of this exercise [deep breathing], I feel my heart rate slow. But as the adrenaline subsides, my mind returns to the dream I’d just woke from. Tendrils of dread knot in my stomach as I think of the glorious oblivion that managed to embrace me during sleep. The knots continue to tighten until my stomach hollows. Like a jack-o’-lantern, my warm and gooey insides are scooped out the moment reality chases away the reprieve of the dream, its imprint evaporating like mist until I am once again cold and numb.’ And with that bit of suggestion, Landry’s story unfolds: ‘Eliana Tate was a master of her own universe. With a successful career, and married to the love of her life, she wanted for nothing...Until tragedy strikes and her world is irrevocably shattered, leaving her a shell of the no-nonsense woman she once was. After a lengthy sabbatical from life, Elle discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she's forced to pull herself out of her grief in time to save her husband's legacy. However, returning to her former life proves to not only be difficult—but dangerous—not just for her, but for those around her. When friends become enemies and nothing is as it seems, how far will Elle go to push for answers before she's gone too far?’

The business career acumen of the author serves the story’s credibility well as she develops Eliana (Elle) through this adventure. Yes, the core is a romance, but the accoutrements are thrilling suspense factors that suggest the core for a cinematic conversion. Very successful writing debut, this!

⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review

Synopsis: Eliana has a successful career and is married to the love of her life. Until tragedy strikes and takes away the best thing that has ever happened to her, her husband. Eliana will do everything in her power to save her husband’s legacy.

Reader’s Thoughts: The Things Not Said by Landry Yves is a mystical contemporary romance novel full of love, loss, and healing with some mayhem along the way. I love how Yves is so descriptive with her characters allowing the reader to feel as if they know the characters on a personal level. Her overview on the daily struggles someone faces following the loss of a loved one is realistic and eye opening. Her ability to discuss hard, life changing topics and turn it into a heartfelt novel was impressive. You won’t want to miss the mental and physical journey Eliana goes through to reclaim her life.

Thank you, @katieandbreypa and @landryyvesbooks for providing me with a complimentary review copy. In no way has that influenced my voluntary review.

“Are you real?”

This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me. I am a sucker for a good mystery romance novel. Landry Yves’, “The Things Not Said” is a great story of loss and working through it. Imagine having everything and losing everything in one day. Eliana is one great character; female characters should be like her. I love the plot and most especially the plot twist! The characters in this novel were written perfectly and have a good established purpose of being added to the story. Love is something that can make or break people. And also, you have to choose your friends and people around you really wisely. A heartbreak takes longer to heal than a broken leg (as far as I know). I love the ending of this book.

This novel truly encompasses getting through life and overcoming the pain that must be endured. This is part thriller/part romance/part empowerment and it truly is a breath of fresh air. The FMC has so many layers – they really are well-developed throughout the story. Some of the minor characters shine in the book, as they help Elle through her journey. There are surprises throughout and it really is a thrilling story!!

This is Landry Yves' first novel and it truly is a hit out of the park. I can't wait to see more from this author!

The Things Not Said
A Novel Written By Landry Yves
Fiction - Mystery
Published 2022

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This book has a little bit of everything for readers- romance, mystery, and suspense. This book is the author’s debut novel.

The main character, Eliana Tate, had it all. A loving husband and a successful career. Everything came crashing down after the untimely death of her husband.

It takes Elle many months to overcome her grief. When she finally returns to her job, she has to fight to regain control of her husband’s company. Everything is different now for Elle. Who should she trust? Who is protecting her? Who wants to hurt her? Who is truly a friend?

This story has some twists. One I was able to figure out. One was unexpected.

I did like that the female main character was a strong woman willing to fight for what she wants.

“I may not be able to change the past, but I can certainly change how I respond to it.”

“…I resolve to take control of the things I do have control over. I will no longer be a victim of circumstances.”

Did I expect this book to be a little bit of a thriller based on the blurb? Yep. But this is definitely full of suspense. Almost from the beginning you're trying to figure out what the heck is going on (in a good way), and with every revelation, I just want to know more and who was behind everything!

Ok, I don't want to give any spoilers, but OMG I LOVE Ben. He is the best friend we all deserve. And that twist is another OMG moment.

All I can say is please read The Things Not Said if you like suspense/thrillers/mind f*cks. You won't be disappointed!

I actually was pleasantly surprised by this book. I wasn't sure how I felt going into it because it's not my normal read, but it really sucked me in! The mystery kept me guessing, the emotions were so real throughout it. The writing was easy to follow. I would definitely recommend it to mystery lovers!

4.5⭐️

This book was very well written and able to grab my attention from the get go. It was the perfect mixture of romance and thriller, but had its fair share of heartbreak as well. When Eliana loses everything that she holds dear, she must pick up the pieces and get back on her feet. But when Eliana realizes her friends aren't who she thought they were, that's when things start to become dangerous and she starts to see their true colors. Elle was such a strong character and I really admired her for that. I very much enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

I very much enjoyed this book. There were points I was able to predict and other things I didn't see coming. I could see a book 2 or even a short novella released with the way the ending was set up but it was also satisfying enough that I am happy if there is no more. Definitely a great romantic suspense read and I am interested in checking out more books by this author.

This book is definitely not what I was expecting at all! Elle is a fantastic fmc and is so real and raw. Being with her through her journey you feel as though you are experiencing it with her. Her life is tragic after the lose of her husband but with the people in her life being as loving and supportive as Ben makes me want to find friends like him. With people like her enemies in her life I’d probably would never leave my home out of fear.

3.5 stars! This book grabbed my attention from the very beginning. The intrigue and the mystery of what was going to happen next. I really liked it but kind of had it figured out at the beginning. I needed just a little bit more mystery. However, this book was still really well written and it had a great storyline. I liked Eliana and how ballsy and sassy she was.

Landry Yves is the author of "The Things Not Said", a book of romance, action and adventure. After suffering a great tragedy, Eliana Tate is forced to come out of her pain to the forces to save her husband's legacy. It is not easy for her to get out of the well into which she fell, but little by little she recovers.

With a great talent for writing and especially for storytelling, the author makes this book exceptional. The cover of the book is inviting, and the original plot and characters are magnificent. Definitely, it is a story to read several times. Highly recommended for fans of the Techno Thriller genre.

Landry Yves’s novel grips the reader from the get-go, making it an easy book to get into. It starts in the middle of the existential crisis in the life of protagonist Eliana, also known as Elle. Slowly but compellingly, we then learn, bit by bit, how her previously apparently perfect life unraveled. This combination of suspense novel and romance kept me reading much later than I should have. Without revealing any spoilers, the novel has an unexpected but incredibly satisfying end that “makes up” for all the turmoil the character and the reader go through before that. I definitely recommend it for all fans of strong female protagonists, steamy romances and thrilling suspense stories.

The Things Not said is a great read and a perfect mix of thriller and romance. Eliana, the protagonist of this book, has a perfect and happy life. Sadly, when tragic events occur, she loses everything she holds dear. She takes some time off and when she seems to be recovering and trying to get back on her feet, she finds out that some of her friends are not what they seem and things get dangerous. I chose this book because I wanted to read a good thriller and I’m glad I found it. This book is full of surprises and will keep the reader interested throughout the whole book. I really liked the plot and how the writer developed the story. I would highly recommend reading this book.

The Things Not Said is a story of overcoming from our main female protagonist, Eliana Tate, a successful businesswoman that when she least expected it, her husband passed away. With the loss of her husband, her world is shattered, and isolates herself from it. However, she decides to take a sabbatical year so she can have a new purpose in life and save her husband's legacy.

The book shows that every event, object, and person in Eliana's life is going against the current of her thoughts and ideas. She is dealing not only with her mind but with her surroundings as well, so she focuses on her work primarily. This is a book about overcoming, how to give meaning to your life despite unexpected events, and all in all, living happily with what you have. A truly inspirational work, would recommend it!

The Things Not Said is an incredibly well-written book about a sad situation that seems to be more prevalent in our time. You follow Eliana Tate, a woman who's happy with her life and her husband; she wanted nothing more from life. It then takes the one thing she loved away from her, her husband and leaves her in a deep dark place. From which she has to pull herself out.
It’s a beautiful book and somewhat relatable, not exactly to the situation but to the other themes within the book. Such as being back-stabbed by those you trusted, pulling yourself out of a dark space when it seems impossible and returning back to who you once were, maybe not the same but definitely better and stronger. A very recommended read.

Romance and Suspense may go hand in hand seamlessly in some stories but Landry Yves’ The Things Not Said isn’t one of them.

I read a reveiw copy sent by KatieandBreyPA - thank you. The review is my opinion only.

This is the story of a widow who, before her husband died, was a confident, no nonsense successful businesswoman. Now, after months of grieving and being on the brink of a self-destructive meltdown, Elle or Eliana Tate has stepped back into business trying to save a company her late husband had helped build up.

And she came at the nick of time to prevent a greedy man at a position of power from ruining the company.

But the financial scrummage—the fraud, the contracts, the due diligence—is just one part of the story. Unexpected turns of events keep the story from becoming dull. There is kidnapping, secret government contracts, hidden cameras, clandestine security and the likes, which stand true to the suspense part of the double-genre story.

The romance part: the relationship—or the memory of that—of Eliana and her late husband, Alex, is the crux of the romance in this story. With some non-graphic sex scenes, this story tries to tell the depth of love the couple shared.

The novel takes its sweet time to build up steam, but when the action hits, it is impactful. But there are a lot of clichés. The moment the word ‘government contract’ was mentioned, somewhere in the beginning of the story, you would easily guess one important twist that comes later.

My biggest problem with this novel was the absolute ridiculousness of the plans our villains hatched in the novel. Elle’s financial takedown her nemesis was too easy. Multimillion dollar embezzlements getting unraveled within days of cursory investigation! Hardly supervillain stuff. And then the climactic plan of getting money—makes no sense even to the protagonist! The plots seem plain old stupid.

The novel is well written, but it could have benefitted greatly by leaning one way or another to the romance or suspense sides of the story. The middle ground, as it seemed to me, was not interesting enough.

I would recommend it as a light travel reading.

You won't guess this ending 🤯

After the passing of the love of her life, Eliana became a shell of the person she use to be. She had to take a pretty lengthy sabbatical, not only from work but from life all together. And once she decides to try yo adjust to her new normal, she's finds out her late husband's lifelong work is being destroyed by the people she thought she left in charge of it. She quickly learns that if she wants to save her husband's company, she will have to face more dangerous situations than she thought.
Spice Rating : 🌶
I very rarely read mystery/thriller books but this was so good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were so many twists and turns throughout the story that I couldn't set it down until I was finished.
Poor Elle 😔 I felt so terrible for her with everything she had to face. It was non stop betrayal. But she had her best friend, Ben, by her side the whole way. I loved their friendship, especially how it started.
The only complaint I have is Elle seemed to be very stiff in some of her conversations. Even with people she's known forever, it just seemed so off to me.

The Things Not Said | Landry Yves

5⭐

The Things Not Said by Landry Yves is my first book from this debut author, but it most definitely won't be my last. She came out swinging and did not disappoint! It is also my first romance suspense/thriller.

The Things Not Said is a fantastic mixture of romance, suspense, and thrills and is emotionally packed. Let’s also not forget overcoming and rebuilding after a significant loss while feeling you have been challenged every step of the way; this resonated with me. Honestly, a little too close to home.

The character development is exceptional, especially that of Eliana Tate; I found her very relatable. I found myself completely immersed in the story.

The story follows Eliana Tate, who basically has everything she could ever ask for; a great career and a loving husband. Suddenly, everything around her falls to pieces; her life is completely shattered. Left broken, she falls into a deep depression and is barely a shell of her former self. In order to preserve the legacy her late husband had been creating, Eliana finds the inner strength it takes to pick herself back up and push forward. People she once believed to be friends soon became dangerous roadblocks for her and those around her.

Thank you to Landry Yves, who gave me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Things Not Said by Landry Yves is a contemporary adventure romance that follows a young widow as she attempts to reclaim her life and move on from the unexpected death of her husband. Set in New York City, the story is a page turner with a major plot twist that will keep you invested to the end.

The majority of the story is told from the perspective of Eliana Tate as she finds herself returning to work nine months after the tragic death of her husband. She is still grieving, and as she tries to navigate her new normal it’s very obvious how much she loved her husband. Eliana very quickly finds herself being stalked and targeted by a mysterious figure and that is when the story really picks up. I found myself unable to put the book down as I desperately wanted to find out the truth along with Eliana.

Yves does a fine job creating an atmosphere of adventure and mystery while never losing sight of Eliana’s emotional journey. The story is written in the first person, and the narration is descriptive while still moving the plot along. Occasionally the narration does sidetrack from the main story which does slow things down a bit, but it does not happen often and also adds another layer to the character.

The characters who would be considered the ‘good’ characters (Eliana and her friends) are extremely well written. They are multidimensional with believable emotions and reactions. Their dialogue is effortless, which is always refreshing. The villains however, felt a bit two dimensional to me. I never truly understood their motivations as their actions seemed disproportionate. The story itself is still solid, and it doesn’t take anything away from this very enjoyable read.

Overall I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars and I would say it’s probably a 2 out of 5 spice level. There are a few intimate scenes, but they’re not written in obscene detail. I would highly recommend this book to any fan of contemporary romances that have any sort of mystery or adventure plots.

Hummingbirds & Healing

Elle went on quite the extensive journey throughout this book both mentally and physically.
She was a very strong female main character whose point of view I enjoyed reading from.
I was amazed at her strength even at some of her darkest moments.

Some elements of the story from the business aspect were a bit lost to me as the characters conversed about it in heavy detail but that didn't take away from the overall story itself.

I was able to predict a few bits along the way while others were a huge surprise. I'm wondering if maybe there will be more to come from these characters in the future or if we'll be left to put some pieces together on our own.

Overall it was a good romantic-suspense to me whilst also telling a journey of healing and grief.

Eliana “Elle” Tate is a powerful and successful woman who saw her world turn upside down when her husband died. Months after, her life is getting back on track. Her company is in good hands but the same cannot be said of her late husband’s company.

Now, her life is focused on getting back everything that is hers, but strange events are happening and she feels like she is losing her mind.

She is missing something, but she can’t understand what or where.

In general, I liked this book. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, but I didn’t feel immersed in the story. It was missing something I can’t pinpoint.

This is a book full of mystery and action, about love, grief, business, danger, and suspense.

Thanks for providing me with this ARC.

The FMC Eliana is on a mission to regain control over hes late husbands company, after leaving it for several months in the hands of her enemy. The last 9 months, the worst of her life following the death of Alex, her one true love. I laughed and cried with Elle. A super representation of how hard love and loss can be. A heart-felt and eye-opening but at the same time beautifully written novel. I loved the writing style of the author who literally made it so easy to be exactly in the moment at every part of the story.
And how amazing is it, that it's the author's first novel 🥹 My best regards to Yves for absolutey nailing it.

Getting over a loss is never an easy thing, and being a target on top of it, just makes it that much worse. The twists in this book had me holding on till the end. Elle trying to get over such a big loss as losing her husband isn't easy, and being almost kidnapped and having her friend taken from her would be enough to keep me on edge. But to have her husband come back from the dead, another twist you weren't sure was going to happen. I fully recommend anyone who is into suspense to read this book.

The Things Not Said by Landry Yves is a book which has a powerful woman in the main role, something I like a lot. As the story progresses we get to read how Eliana changes; we get to see her life, which seems to be a dream like life, then when everything falls down and finally, we see the character rising up again. Without any doubts, this is a reading I enjoyed and I would recommend. I believe it is a bit long for the plot but there was no dull moment within the story. A very good reading!
