Although I have never been in a hostel or taken up science at the high school and college level, I enjoyed this book, which talks about @author_harshita 's time at BITS, Pilani, India. I could imagine how life would have been had I been a BITSian thanks to her book. I recommend it to former students of BITS, Pilani, so that they can go down memory lane and recall good times. I also recommend it to current and prospective students of BITS so that they can get an idea of the institute from one of their seniors.

BITS and Pieces, A Collage of My BITSian Memories is Harshita Nanda’s trip down memory lane. She takes the readers back in time to the campus of BITS Pilani, her alma mater.

There are 26 chapters in this book, titled alphabetically. The lucid writing and fast-paced narration transported me to the campus. Harshita’s various recollections and anecdotes bring the pages to life. I enjoyed visiting the campus, classrooms, the various bhawans, and the mess. Getting familiar with the jargon, knowing the students, and being a part of their lives was interesting.

Certainly, readers having a connection with the institute would be more emotionally invested and be able to relate to the book on a better level.

The illustrations are another stellar aspect of this book. The illustrator has created customized and delightful images for each alphabet. It aptly depicts the content of the chapter. My only grouse is regarding the placement. The illustrations appear at the end of every chapter, instead of at the start. Introducing the chapter with illustrations would have created a better layout and enhanced the appeal. E.g., The illustration for the chapter starting with M faces the next alphabet.

Pick up BITS and Pieces if you are looking for a light-hearted read. It will surely remind them of their college days.

I received a review copy from the author. All opinions expressed are my own and unbiased.

I am not a BITSian, but this sounded so familar. Change a couple of terms and a couple of places, and it could be virtually any top rated, cosmopolitan campus in India. Picked it up without knowing what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. I will certainly recommend it to all BITSians- it will be a trip down memory lane for them

Harshita’s narrative style captures the essence & spirit of the Pilani Campus of Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), which is now an Institute of Eminence. For every BITSian alumni, this book & its narrative style would surely bring back memories and associated emotions in their fullest glory. For the current BITSian students, especially in Pilani campus, this book will serve as a comparison point to explore areas within the campus to see what has changed from the late 90s to current day. For future aspiring BITSians, I think this book will serve as a motivation to want to get to experience the magic of BITS that every BITSian will proudly vouch to and get a sneak-peek into the much talked about exclusive BITSian vocabulary. The illustrations by Girija Hariharan are a true representation of everything that the words in the book talk about and close to the reality of what it used to be on campus in the late 90s and early 2Ks.
