The HellBeast King #4

The HellBeast's Claim

Rate this book
It started as a HellBeast’s Mistake that ended in me making my own.

And now I am paying for it.
Now I am running from it.
But I am soon to discover how foolish that was.
Because you didn’t run from the HellBeast King.

Not when that King still wanted you.
Not when that King wasn’t ready to let you go.
So now I am being hunted and soon he will find me.
I know this.

Of course, he won’t have far to look.
Not when club Afterlife is the only place left on Earth safe enough for me to hide. Hide from the Beast that has been fooled into wanting me. But more than that,
Fooled into declaring me as being…

More of the same…

I don’t know why I keep coming back to this author expecting something different only to always be disappointed. It’s like I’m in an unhealthy abusive relationship, much like most of her female characters.

I love Jared Cerberus, or at least I loved him in the Afterlife series, but seeing the same formula of, misinformation, abuse, lack of communication, and jumping to conclusions, play out with him just made my head and heart hurt. I told myself I was done with this series after I had to skip through the last book but I couldn’t help it. I keep waiting for him to turn back into the smart badass he was but yet again we are given the same overused tropes of characters making bad, stupid, and out of character decisions in order to push the plot. Oh…and don’t get me started on the female lead and her idiocy.

The author obviously knows where she wants the story to go, but instead of letting her characters get their organically, she forces idiotic decisions to move plot forward. I ended up skipping and skimming again and I’m soo done at this point. Why so many women enjoy this type of trope and don’t see the glaring red flags both from a romantic perspective and a writing perspective scares me most about all of these high reviews.

Like I said…

I love Hudson’s world of demons, angels and vamps. Have loved it. But I am so disappointed in Jared’s whole series. He sounds like a dumb meathead. I forget that he’s British, he’s so un-charming. And I get that he’s playing a biker, so he’s more rough around the edges than Draven, but, he’s also lived for hundreds of years so I expect him to be a little wiser and more mature. He sounds so lame! Like, how is this guy a King of anyone? Orth telling him 5 times, “you’ve got balls brother”, because he’s going to stand up to Draven, but I mean, duh? He’s a king of demons and the gatekeeper of Hell. Shouldn’t that go without saying? I don’t know.

How many times does a character have to say, “like I said..”? Never. Or, “this before” doing xyz. The word, “this” was used so much I wanted to pull my hair out.

I just don’t know what happened with this series. The best scenes are with Pip, Sophia and Keira. It’s hard to imagine giving up, but this book was by far the hardest to get through. I thought this story was finally going to end, so I pushed through, but, bored, so bored with these two MCs.

So much for running 🏃🏃

Seriously is there ever going to be a point where these books are terrible??

Of course not!!

Sheesh, you'd think you'd never read any of Stephanie's books before!!

After everything Ella went through in Hellbeasts Mistake, you'd think she's catch a break, but no, well not in this lifetime at any rate. Not that it should be a surprise of course, as none of the ladies in the Afterlife universe have it easy and let's face it, they're all kick-ass for a reason!! They need to be, so as to be able to take their kings.

This book though is all about the thorough necessity of communication that's needed, should you wish for your relationship to succeed and unfortunately, that's always the way between the kings and their chosen ones!!

And in this Ella and Jared are no different, especially when neither actually listens to the other, as they tell others....but never tell each other....anything!! Let's face it, they're either screaming at each other or trying to eat each others faces off. There's no wonder neither are on the same page!!

But I'm not going to tell you anything else, cos at the end of the day, I don't want to ruin anything for you. However, prepare for lots of the above, with parts of action thrown in to keep us all off balance and biting our nails lol.

Now audio, Alyssa Avery at least keeps everyone's accent and voice the same and there are no Marcus monologues so no need to wonder just how he's going to sound and what accent in this book. So the audio is definitely better. Now does that make it worth the cost to buy it....hmm not sure it does but hey that's your choice to make.

I will say, that there is so much rawness throughout, that you can almost feel the heartache coming out for Ella, so for that reason I would change my prior answer to yes, this time I will recommend the audio, as well as the book. So hey enjoy 😉😏

After listening to Afterlife, Transfusion and Vincent’s story ( still waiting for part 2!!!!!) I choose to read Hellbeast as my oldest niece reminded me that reading and listening gives you two different experiences. She loves to read because she can get lost in the story and I stopped and questioned my self “do I feel that when listening to a story” answer was, NO. I realized that I play games, scroll through FB and even check my email. So I decided to read this series and yes, I was lost in the story and remembered this feeling. That being said, I am finding this book somewhat frustrating. Spoiler alert!!! If you have read any of the books I mentioned above then you may find the same Situations occurring. Girl falls in love, gets kidnapped multiple times, all the lies the main characters keep from each other, always a prophecy to be fulfilled and as readers you may find more similarities between the books. Now as for the Hellbeast series, Ella drives me nuts. I find myself asking why Stephanie made her so confident and competent when she puts her in Ella’s mortal life but when Stephanie puts Ella in an immortal environment, Ella starts making complicated decisions and even gets dumbstruck half the time thinking about what she should be doing. Yes Ella even says a few times “duh” what am I thinking or even doing and then she starts running around and more lies and then tender moments go on in the series. I do however love that Stephanie can write a story that sucks me in and I can actually visualize the story. That is the hardest part for me with books. I also like how in all the books I have read by Stephanie Hudson so far, she brings reoccurring characters back in to play. I am definitely team Lucius! And after finishing the Hellbeast series I think I am actually going to “read” Transfusion instead of listening to it. So read on Or listening, Stephanie Hudson fans!!!

>Book Review – The Hellbeast’s Claim

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Hellbeast King series and ends in a cliffhanger. Jared realizes Ella is his Chosen. Ella thinks Jared is still hung up on his dead wife. Communication between Ella and Jared would have made this a very short book. Jared wants to claim Ella, but Ella doesn’t want Jared to make a mistake and mate the wrong Chosen. Ella is willing to sacrifice her love for Jared, so he can have his Chosen and live HEA.

>Jared and the reader finally are told what is medically wrong with Ella. I love the interactions between Jared and Ella when they are not fighting. Jared is so overprotective. Jared and his brother have a great relationship also. The secondary characters are very rich in this book, really helping the story out.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. The author gives too many detailed descriptions of everything from clothes to hair to every room Ella goes in. All of the description caused me to skim some parts, which I hate doing.

irritating Whiny childish women

For goodness sake, could Ella (red) be anymore of a plonker?
She is childish and has the communication skills of a 12 year old with a flair for the dramatics.

Not telling Jared about her Illness, trying to kill herself by dancing.
Not listening to Jared tell her he loves her and she is ‘the one’?!

She just kept running away from him. Basically it is a repetitive cycle of kissing, crying, running away, getting in trouble, being saved and then the silly women runs again- for his own good. Soooo frustrated.

Firstly talk to him. Sit down and discuss your vision of him and his wife, talk about your fears and be a grown up.

Plus the weird undercurrent storyline of the bear shifter and the demon hunting her!? Seemed added on just for something to break up the kissing-running away thing that is boring the pants out of me. However, I will continue to read the series through and will risk repetitive strain injury from all the eye rolling I have been doing

The Hellbeast’s Claim by Stephanie Hudson is a 4 ⭐️ read.
This book was released Oct 7th and I had so many plans to sit down and read it with no distractions but unfortunately Covid found me and for 2 and a half days I could barely open my eyes to see never mind read 😭 but I got to it eventually and it was worth the extra wait.
Ella is running from Jared she believes he claimed her by mistake but doesn’t give him any time to explain, she head to Afterlife where she’s sure her aunt and uncle will protect her. But there’s no where she can run that her Hellbeast won’t find her.
Introducing himself to parents wasn’t really something Jared ever thought he’d do but he knows to get to Ella he will need to go through them and he definitely impresses them.
This book was enjoyable and I can’t wait for the next one.

Eeeeek I'm actually starting to really fall in love with this series now! I have to say I think it might be my favourite Stephanie Hudson series so far but I still have a good couple Hellbeast book to go so well see!!

I absolutely love Jared as I've said a couple books back. He's such a big softie and I have such a soft spot for him. He knows he's fucked up but he's trying to make it right and I love that for him. I hope Ella can see this soon especially seeing how well Jared got along with Ella's family. (Just a moment to appreciate Ella petting Jared's beast too 😍)

I love seeing Don and Keria even just a little scene here and there and I kinda missed them to be honest! Their interaction is still so so good

✔️ fantasy romance
✔️ fated mates
✔️ hellbeast
✔️ making right
✔️ kidnap ?!??

This author never disappoints me with her story telling.
It seemed like it's been ages since i was in the Hellbeast world but since i picked this up it seems like no time at all.
I loved catching up with Ella & Jared again and there problems, this was set at just the pace i love to read with a few firm favourites that pop up and have you in a fit of giggles along the way.
Ella is still being stalked by a demon but she is being protected by the best demon out there The HellBeast, what more could she ask for.
I loved Jared in this book especially with meeting her parents that was just so funny, he really is starting to redeem himself now with what he now knows about Ella's illness.
That ending was perfect i now can't wait for the next book in this amazing series.

Frustrated

I loved this book. I tried not to read it and wait till the 5th one came out, but demons be damned I couldn't wait. The frustration comes from it ending. I knew before I turned the last couple pages it was going to end too soon. I don't want to give anything away because I hate that. But I will say is no one will be disappointed. The only disappointment comes when it ends. I swear I think Jared is my favorite now. I just wanted to jump into the story and give him a hug. I really hope it's not going to be very long before Stephanie releases number five. I swear she just keeps you wanting more and more. If you have not started the Afterlife series it is a must read. He will not be disappointed.

A good story with a disappointing lead female

I am reading the series and I thought that this was the last book, but no this ended in a cliffhanger, just a painful ending. It’s really more of the same thing as the lead female, Ella, refuses to digest any information. Her Aunt Keira has explained more about the supernatural world and Chosen ones. And still Ella thinks she can avoid her King now that they both know they are fated. Her King Jared, should just literally tell her that her illness prevented him from recognizing her so Ella would stop thinking the claim was just accidental. At least this book shares some history for both lead characters to make up for the lack of it in the prior three books. Disappointed.

This book was like a looping because at the end I had to think of Marcus in #3 when he said to Ella, 'he doesn't see any difference between her staying here and running off to Afterlife. The result will be the same`. ... Nothing really happens here and yet by the end of this book you know more than before. But maybe it's just me.

I have to admit that I really liked Jared here. He was really trying to make up for his mistakes. He is also aware that he still has to "grovel" a bit here until Ella's pain finally subside and eventually disappears. - But that's only possible if she doesn't run away again. And so this sneaky HellBeast King turns into the CaveMan King in the end.

another hit

I Love Ella, but as per, she is repeating her aunties mistakes, I know this has to be done to drag a story line out, but it really is annoying, just accept you're the fated and get on with your happy life.

loved the storyline as usual, but I honestly get so frustrated with the constant use of "meaning" and "which meant" you're a seasonal writer now, your editor needs to reevaluate this, I nearly threw my phone a few times as it boiled my blood, any other writer would get 3 stars max for this, but I'm a huge afterlife fan and can't bring myself to bring the stars down.

Wow, amazing read, Ella and Jared’s story continues but what makes this read even better is the mixture of previous characters from Afterlife. Honestly the misunderstandings that surround decisions made by Ella are slightly frustrating and the fact that Jared doesn’t actually tell her why he said the things she overheard is annoying but it all makes for an amazing read. Great story and plot, fabulous characters. There are some heated moments but I’d imagine it will be explosive once they finally seal their bond. Some intense moments, and difficult scenes but there is also some banter and comedic moments. Can’t wait for the next read in this series. Highly recommend

Bloody brilliant

I’ve waited for this book and it was so worth the wait. Now I’m chomping at the bit for my next fix.
Jared now knows she is his chosen but he’s lost her and is now on the hunt for his queen. He’s pulling out all the stops. She is his and no one will stand in his way. Not even the king of kings.
Ella is certain the Hellbeasts half claim is a mistake. A mistake that is her fault. She will rectify it no matter what. She loves him but she has to let him go.
Packed full from start to finish and we get to catch up with all our favourite characters from Afterlife too.
Absolutely loved this

Book 4 in this series and I'm a little disappointed tbh. It was much of the same as before, Ella running (again and again) Jared chasing yet again. Ella seems to be a bit of a wet blanket if I'm honest and Jared has lost his badassness. She actscway younger than her 29 years and I get the fated one idea, each king besotted with his chosen one but this story seems a bit dragged out, the only good bits were with the old Afterlife cast which held to form but thus story was a bit meh.... I mean book 4 and he's still not claimed his chosen? Misunderstanding or not it's a bit toooo sloooooowwwww burn. Hoping book 5 can redeem this series as I'm losing hope fast.

Dragging it out

Honestly I love Stephanie Hudson as an author , Afterlife & Transfusion are among the best I've read in the PNR genre but it these Hellbeast books are mostly waffle with a story thrown in with lots of flashbacks .Great money spinner for the author not so great for the reader , could in all fairness of took the pages & pages of angst & self reflection out out & had a fantastic story in a couple of books , I've come to the end of my Stephanie B down journey I don't even care any more if Jared & Ella get their happy everyday we

I have waited and hungered for this book! Then I go and pour through it in one night and now we’ll I have regrets of binging it. Why can I not savor your books Stephanie? No matter, I will wait with baited breath and hope for the next. I’m such an eager beaver when it comes to your books. PS. If you don’t know her books you are missing out!!! I’m a hardcore no triggers dark reader but her books are like eating a whole bag of candy and not looking back. A total guilty pleasure.

The Hellbeasts Claimed

I re-read bks 1-3 to remind myself where we left off before devouring bk4 Claimed. 😍 loved it! the pace, the story, the characters the ease of the flirty banter had me smiling n laughing. The frustration n wanting to shout out just sit down n talk to each other. But like in real life we don't always do as we should in case we upset someone who we love.

Hope to hear Soon when bk5 is due out cos I need time to read bks1-4 before starting 5 😝😆😁

Keep up the great work Stephanie

Utter dissatisfaction

This series was good to start but has now become an entire waffle. It’s a DRAGGED OUT MASTERPIECE. It’s only positive is how creative you have to be to waffle so much it’s like someone tried making more oil out of water. I had such high hopes but from book 3 I should have known. I’d still recommend the read if a total torturous waste of time is what you want. Also people really should not have friends and family give such false reviews….. time I’d never get back

Disappointing

I was a huge fan of After Life. I also read the full Transfusion series. I was really looking forward to Jareds' story. Unfortunately, I couldn't get two chapters in without being completely annoyed at the recycled story line. It's all the same story, just slightly different characters. Two people so madly in love but can't be truthful about anything, and keep secrets. Lets not forget all the, "fuck me, but my girl.." I'm sorry Stephanie, I do not mean any disrespect. I love so many of the characters you have brought into this world.

Unnecessarily dragged out plot

As bad as I want to 4 or 5 star this book because overall I do love this series, I’m so frustrated that if the next book is just like this one I’m just going add it to my DNF list. There is literally no reason as to why nothing was resolved in this entire book. A misunderstanding can be dragged out in several episodes of a tv show sure; but an ENTIRE book?? A few chapters of miscommunication would have been better. Come on Stephanie, you’re an amazing writing but this was disappointing. I don’t even like Ella anymore and Jared deserves better.

Stephanie NEVER disappoints!!

I have been faithfully following and reading Stephanie Hudson's Afterlife saga, and let me tell you she is absolute magic with her storytelling and the gift of making a story come to life in your mind. Also a unique, and sometimes cruel, way of living one gasping for air and craving more! Strong, beautiful heroines and the powerful, supernatural Kings that will burn the world for their Chosen Ones!

Jared has won my heart.

The more hellbeast books come out the more I fall in love with Jared. All the kings are pig heads at the beginning of their stories, but Jared just makes me want to lock him up. Finally got the answer of Ella's condition which I haven't been trying to figure out since book 1, but as Stephanie has done it again, I was so way off kilter it never came to mind! Can't wait for hellbeast 5!!

Amazing 🤩

Totally loved it if both Ella an Jared would have been more honest with each other they wouldn’t be in this situation as clearly they both love each other but the suspense is what makes these books as well as the roller coaster of emotions and hat come with them. Love all of Stephanie’s books you get so invested in them your gutted when they end can’t wait for the next one!!

Fighting For Your Chosen

The Hellbeast's Claim, book 4 of Stephanie Hudson's The Hellbeast King series is filled with fighting and love. Jared deserves to he happy but will his past come back to bite him in the end? Ella has suffered her whole life and survived but will she survive being heartbroken? The rollercoaster ride is worth it as you read their story. I can not wait to get the next book.

Um Communication?

So this book while still good wasn’t great. We do find out a lot of back story stuff. Though never have read other series of this author, I felt a bit lost. And what’s with the lack of communication between the main characters? They talk to everyone else but each other. So frustrating. And she is blatantly ignoring the signs. Another cliffhanger, so on to the next one.

Oh! This is awesome!!

Man, what goes on in this book is just mind numbing! Laughing one minute, sad the next, getting the crap scared out of you! It’s all here!!
I just know there is going to be an epic grab made for Ella in thr next book after the mess that was made during the last attempt. And I can’t wait to see how Jared takes care of it.
What a love story we have going on!!!

one star removed for too much fluff

The story is great but it shines most with dialogue/action btw characters. The fluff in between is what sucks. Too much detail about places and people where it’s is not warranted nor needed. Too much repetitive inner monologues. I found myself skipping ahead of the inner thoughts to actual interaction btw the characters. Still I read in one sitting so still get 4 ⭐️s.
