Apparently, I'm the granddaughter of the all-powerful Sea Witch of Nyxleia. Too bad dear old granny isn't telling me what that means exactly, in terms of magic or powers. No, she keeps telling me to figure that crap out on my own and fulfill my destiny. Such love. But if that bombshell wasn't enough, I'm now engaged to the four Pirate Kings and doing my best to keep my feelings and lust separate to learn more about them. I need to discover how they broke the Blood Oath that triggered the curse and determine if these bastards are worth the hard work and pain it'll cost me to save their world. Otherwise, I might just try to find my way back to Earth instead. Although as I learn more about them, I start wondering if I want to leave at all. But then again, no one has ever wanted to keep me forever before. Why would these pirates be any different? Not to mention my list of enemies grows by the day. It's not like I have time for feelings, or dreams, or to wish for the fucking impossible. However, when the claiming finally arrives, part of me wants all four of the Pirate Kings to want me for me instead of because of a prophecy. Will that ever be true? Or just some laughable dream someone like me didn't deserve? This is a dark “Why Choose?” (reverse harem) romance where Angel gets all four morally gray pirates and doesn’t have to pick one. Full of heat, a curvy heroine, four possessive males, and “touch her and I’ll unalive you” vibes. CWs are listed on the author’s website. Book Two ends on a cliffhanger.

Another fun read from Minerva! I love angel and her pirate kings! We pick up right after the cliffhanger from arrival and spend the first chunk of the book world building. But don’t worry, still plenty of sexy times! We slowly get to learn why each of the kings broke the blood path and got a better insight into Shen and his mind. I also just love the world Minerva creates. It’s so colorful and filled with magical flora and fauna. I want to see it irl (and I’m with Angel that a trained mini dragon beats a parrot any day 😂)

We end on a baby cliffhanger? Like it’s kinda one but not one that makes you want to throw your kindle at the wall and I really appreciate that lol. Can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy!

"But every once in a while, I wished I could open up to someone, anyone, and not have to hide behind some kind of mask."
***BE ADVISED SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1! SO CHECK OUT ARRIVAL FIRST.***
Angel has just learned that she is the granddaughter of the all powerful Sea Witch of Nyxleia. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a clue what that means regarding magic or powers. Instead Angel has been told to figure it out on her own and fulfill her destiny. As if that wasn't enough, she's now engaged to the four Pirate Kings and working to keep her feelings and lust separate to learn more about them. She has to figure out how they broke the Blood Oath that triggered the curse and determine if they are worth the hard work and pain it'll cost to save their world. Angel struggles with whether or not she wants to really leave at all, but since nobody has ever wanted her forever, why would the Pirate Kings. Yet, when the claiming arrives, part of her wants all four of them to want her for and not because of a prophecy. With her list of enemies growing by the day it's not like she has time for feelings or dreams, or wishing for the impossible.
Okay so I gave the first book 4 stars and really enjoyed the premise of the book and the potential it appeared to have. I have to admit that to an extent this one let me down just a little. The book basically picked up where the other one ended and spent some time giving us more character backgrounds for Angel and the Pirate Kings. It even did remarkably well with the spicy factor, which I think was a little bit more in this one. We get the idea that the Sea Witch and the Earth Witch might have had a hand in more than originally thought; but not a lot of detail. We learn why a few of the kings broke the Blood Oath but the stories are pretty rushed.
We get absolutely nothing more about the prophecy really. I wanted to know a little more but it just didn't happen in this one. We see a few of the Pirate Kings developing feelings for Angel and Angel developing feelings for them, which okay great! But the back and forth in their own heads about not acknowledging anything more than lust was a bit irritating. Angel was also very fragile in this book and so focused on how she has never been wanted and shouldn't expect anything different. I didn't feel like this one had much of a plot to be honest. I mean we learn about mermaids but that is about the most exciting plot point.
Again don't get me wrong the spicy scenes were great and we get a lot more from this book than the first. I just felt that other than the mermaids and the spice absolutely nothing happened in this book. It just felt like it drug out and it was all about feelings that everyone shouldn't have but does and won't acknowledge. Not to mention the abrupt ending. It felt like it just stopped in the middle of a thought. However, will I still read the next book? Yes. I want to know what happens next with all the characters and get some answers on the prophecy.

Angel finally gets some answers after the surprise revelation from the sea witch. She finally commits to her new reality and four new fiancés, news to all of them! The way her relationship changes with each of the guys when she undergoes this change from prisoner to fiancée is interesting. Angel is a modern woman used to asserting her own authority, so being told what to do by the four pirate kings hasn’t set well with her and they’ve had constant battles over this in the previous book. Now they’re all treating her with more respect now they know who she is to the sea witch.
Women in this universe have the same issues with men we have now tho love that they can be pirates too and to see the pirate kings have women in their crew, would so love to be a pirate myself.
Angel’s relationship with three of the pirate kings is progressing well, after all she’s actually living lots of woman’s fantasy of sexy pirates dominating her. Shen is another matter tho, he still feels guilty over the death of his first wife and his fears of impotence. So pleased to see Angels eventually made some progress by the end of the book.
Would definitely like to sample the jewel fruit, that scene with the three kings was seriously hot. Although this book is packed full of smut there’s a lot of world building and we find out more about the backstory of the pirate kings. Loving the direction this tale is taking us and looking forward to Angel coming into her power and asserting control over this world.
There's still questions about what it is that Angel and the pirate kings need to do after they're married to save the world. Want to know more about her mermaid powers, definitely a good series this, really enjoying it and becoming invested in the characters.

🧜‍♀️ 🏴‍☠️ Awaken ARC Review 🏴‍☠️🧜‍♀️

Thank you so much to Minerva Kayden for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!!

Awaken is the second book in the Curse of the Pirate Kings Why Choose series and picks up immediately where Arrival left off. In Awaken, we are reunited with Angel and her four Pirate Kings - Nadif, War, Shen and Ethan while they work to uncover secrets of their world that no one could have expected

I really enjoyed reading Arrival, and Awaken was just as good! Awaken is not a standalone and meant to be a continuation of the series - so if you’re new to this series - be sure to read Arrival first! I loved learning more about all the characters and seeing how they grow together! As always, check trigger warnings - especially if you’re sensitive to things like breath play, primal/chase, group playtime activities and other BDSM elements

Overall, this was a 4 star read for me - another super fun installment in this series and I can’t wait for the next one! And the smut - absolutely fantastic! 4 flames for spice!

Well, this second book was a huge improvement over the first book! I am glad I stuck around and had faith! The characters are developing beautifully, even with their extreme kinks, and they are showing redeeming character traits as opposed to just being mean spirited and aggressive. The Sea Witch is also showing us more about herself and the situations that brought Angel to be, and why she was abandoned as an infant. This book goes a long way explaining the background of all the characters and history, and that explains the now and sets up the future. It makes you care about the why and the people involved. I really hope they all get that happy ending together! Don’t get me wrong, this is still a dark, ultra-steamy, story which might not be for everyone, but it has grown into so much more than it was in the beginning! I am really looking forward to book three, and at this rate, I know I will be sorry to see the end of the trilogy! Bravo, Minerva!

This is the second book in the Curse of the Pirate Kings!

The story picks up right where book 1 ends. Angel learns a little more about her grandmother, the curse the prophecy and how she is to save the world. There is a lot of world building in this book which helps to answer a lot of questions for book 1. You get to learn about each pirate kings past to an extent and how they each broke the blood oath. There is still plenty of smexy times and plenty of group activities. This book ends on small cliffhanger, but not one that would make you want to chuck the book across the room. I cannot wait for the conclusion this story about angel and her men.

Great Continuation!!!
I thought this a great addition to the series.
We learn a lot in this book and some things are revealed. There is also a lot character growth and we learn more about each of the pirate kings. Angel and the kings grow closer. I love the banter between them. I can't forget the the steam, it was so hot!!🔥 🥵
I'm so excited for the last book! I can't wait till all 5 finally come together!!

Perfect if you want a quick smutty (very smutty and hot) read

There are elements of story and character building but I would prefer more sprinkler around all the smut because Angel and her men are so interesting and compelling in their own right! And the world is fascinating!

Very excited for the third and final book though, hoping to have everything tied up and resolved and see Angel at her full potential!

“I refused to say I loved it. I wasn't ready to embrace any kind of deep feelings, or shit.”

The writing was bad, the plot went no where, and the smut was barely there. So disappointing compared to the first.

Great book!

I really like this book and the first one, looking forward to reading the next one. Only thing I don't like about them is the language. I get that it's dark romance, but I've read others that didn't have all the cursing.
