A must read for all professionals, but I think especially important for young(er) professionals … whichever field of work they are in. I say this for a few reasons:

- most stories in this book tell us that people come into supply chain from other fields (of interest / work experiences / qualifications) … true in my own case as well

- these stories truly show how critical & amazing supply chain is … for both, businesses & professionals (both grow because of this field)

- these stories help the readers understand the bond of inter-connectedness of various functions of a business … and the role supply chain plays in ensuring this bond is strong (and remains strong)

- these stories highlight that supply chain is really about people … about collaborating with others & growing together

- these stories talk about men & women as leaders … yes, that’s a +ve in my view

- these stories are from around the world, and include many different industries

- these stories make supply chain professionals appear S**Y … well, I can definitely spell ‘rockstars’ here ;) … rockstars that are seldom interested in taking the stage, and are happy to operate behind the scenes

- finally, the book gives us the CHAIN model that is simple & efficient

The only (slight) irritant I found in the book was the recurring reference to McKinsey … many of the leaders mentioned in the book are ex-McKinsey … but this is understandable, since one of the authors, Knut, is currently with the firm.

From Source to Sold is an enlightening dive into the intricate world of supply chain management, presented with clarity and depth that both newcomers and veterans in the field will find invaluable. This book does more than just skim the surface of supply chain management; it delves into the heart of the matter, exploring the complexities, challenges, and innovations that define this dynamic field.

The book begins by setting the stage for the uninitiated, painting a vivid picture of the complexities inherent in modern supply chain management. What stands out immediately is the author's ability to articulate these complexities in an engaging and easy way to grasp.

As the book progresses, each chapter delves into specific aspects of supply chain management with a focus and depth that is rare. The chapters on global supply chain challenges and innovations in supply chain management are particularly noteworthy. The former provides an eye-opening look at the myriad of challenges – political, economic, and environmental – that supply chains face on a global scale. The latter, meanwhile, is a treasure trove of information on the latest technological advancements and strategies that are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in supply chain efficiency.

The real strength of this book lies in its interviews and contributions from various industry leaders. The insights from figures like Claudio Strobl and Lynn Torrel are practical, real-world examples and advice that lend the book a level of credibility and relevance that is hard to replicate. These sections underscore the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and innovation, themes that resonate throughout the book.

Another commendable aspect is the chapter focusing on customer-centric supply chains. This chapter is a timely reminder of the shift towards customer-centric models in supply chain management. It helps readers understand the end-to-end process from a logistical standpoint and from the perspective of ultimate value delivery to the customer.

The book's approach to sustainability and supply chain ethics is thoughtful and forward-thinking. In a world increasingly concerned with ethical consumption and sustainable practices, the book does an excellent job of addressing these concerns in the context of supply chain decisions. It's a chapter that informs and inspires readers to think about the broader impact of their supply chain practices.

From Source to Sold doesn't just stop at providing information; it goes a step further by offering a framework for successful supply chain leadership through the "CHAIN model." This model encapsulates the book's essence – Collaborative, Holistic, Adaptable, Influential, and Narrative-driven leadership – and serves as a valuable guide for anyone looking to excel in this field.

From Source to Sold is a comprehensive, engaging, and insightful exploration of supply chain management. Whether you're a student, a business leader, or just someone curious about the inner workings of global trade, this book will broaden your understanding and appreciation of supply chains' crucial role in our world.

This book is unique in many ways. This is the first book that I came across, that completely focuses on senior supply chain leaders and their success stories. Secondly, these leaders are global, and are located across the world dealing with various local as well as global supply chain issues. And lastly, the authors have written this book whose core is technical, but the narration is intimate. The success stories that they have narrated are engaging and inspiring.

The prelude of this book includes a two headed “self interview” of the authors, Radu Palamariu, managing director of Alcott Global and Knut Alicke, partner and head of Supply Chain for Europe at McKinsey & Company. In this interview, authors tell us about their journey in the industry and their motivations behind authoring this book. They build on their belief that supply chain is uniquely equipped to breed the organisational leaders of the future. This perfectly sets the context of this book.

The book is the result of interviews the authors conducted with twenty six top Supply Chain leaders and it is the synthesis of their learnings from interactions with these leaders. Each of the interviewee has generously shared the anecdotes about the challenges they faced during their journey in supply chain domain and the strategies they adopted to overcome these challenges. It is a treasure trove of real life stories which are difficult to find elsewhere in the literature. Each chapter is concise and easy to read and is an ideal resource for the students and practitioners. The book is edited by Vishnu Rajamanickam and his professional touch as a transport and logistics journalist is clearly evident.

The authors should now consider writing their next book about mid-career and new entrants in the field of logistics and supply chain management, who face an entirely different set of challenges in their career.

I participated to the book launch in Carturesti Carusel, and I was happy to see the interest of the colleagues of a few book contributors from Mondelez, Microsoft, Henkel and a few other companies. The book is a compendium of stories from leaders in the supply chain industry. Written in a conversational style and easy to understand, we hear key insights from people that lead multi-billion businesses to entrepreneurs. Achim Dunnwald talks about the importance of aligning to the same vision and purpose on core KPIs and always staying curious. Andreas Krinninger has a funny story about a 3 star Michelin Chef and the importance of synchronicity. Bonnie Fetch touches on an important topic the cultural challenges when being responsible for other regions. Chouaib Rokbi has stories about the culture of questioning and disagreement. A great tool to work with people in companies, as it has a QR code inside and if you scan it, you have access to bonus content including videos and worksheets for your team. A great resource to spark a conversation with your colleagues about how a team can achieve new heights!

This is a great book with many personal stories that is so inspiring. It is easy to read and most importantly, the authors kept it so real and share how they overcome the many challenges still seen in the current business. My 7 years old is reading the book too! Though there are words that he do not understand, he continues to read on as the book kept him curious.

More about leadership than Supply Chain - most of the articles suggest god-like powers of intellect and read like a self-penned performance review. The book lies awkwardly between a business biography and an instruction manual. Best for those newly starting out in business

You won’t learn a single thing from this book. It’s just full of platitudes and no specifics.
