Good series, valuable pepper info
One of the better post apocalyptic series I've read. The quality of the writing was average in the first few books but improved later. I enjoyed the shifting focus among different characters and areas, and for the most part the convergence of their stories was well depicted. The characterization is a bit amateurish, and there are a few places where a big event is foreshadowed, but ends up just being summarized after it has already occurred. Also , some story lines didn't feel finished at all, especially the one involving the president and the native American tribes.
The character arcs for Bill McAllister and Jason Ross are clunky and repetitive, not very plausible.
Despite its literary failings, it is a competently written and very well researched series. Especially in the first two books the authors effectively destroy some prepper myths and naivety.
I'm a retired English teacher and published playwright, so my review is probably a little more critical than the average reader might compose. I would fully recommend reading the entire series.
