Special Forces veteran Jeff Kirkham and survivalist Jason Ross hurdle toward their final confrontation after Kirkham seizes control of the Homestead and stands between Ross, his wife and his land. But the two men's personal vendetta may cost them everything as the Mexican cartel bears down in an armored thrust to subjugate the Rocky Mountain West.
Only Jenna Ross, estranged wife of Jason Ross, sees the full measure of all that is at stake, and she struggles between dark treason and the iron anvil of tyranny. There is no manipulation she will not consider, nor personal value she will not compromise to save her friends and children. Will it be enough to bridge the hatred between her two scarred champions?
Blood Spring is book nine and the final installment in the Black Autumn series and brings the full saga to completion.
Sorry to see this was the last book. I enjoyed the journey and storytelling over the last 8 books. Definitely worth the read if your into apocalyptic storytelling.
Spoiler Alert: Disappointed in that advertised 'all characters from all books' yet no involvement of Mika, Bethany, and AI (which I found most intriguing). I understand potential future books on the subject but didn't read 9 books to be left guessing. Overall good read except some plot inconsistences that stuck out for me. I know everything can't be covered but some things the author put out there. - referenced some tank occupants getting shot when getting out to go to the bathroom. Why wouldn't Militia position 2 shooters at every tank hole especially since tanks were in same place for days (maybe weeks). Which also begs question how did they get food to tank operators. - Bill was labeled a turncoat early so why didn't he just kill cartel leader when he saw how unstable he was? - at end Jeff knew he wasn't giving them gas and would be a battle at the end yet he had no forces ready when hostages were going to be shot. - so much detail went in to military planning yet the read was Jess just sat around for days doing nothing waiting for action. - a lot of detail about Russians and how they would eventually be engrained in to US history so it would have been worthy a paragraph or two.
One of the better post apocalyptic series I've read. The quality of the writing was average in the first few books but improved later. I enjoyed the shifting focus among different characters and areas, and for the most part the convergence of their stories was well depicted. The characterization is a bit amateurish, and there are a few places where a big event is foreshadowed, but ends up just being summarized after it has already occurred. Also , some story lines didn't feel finished at all, especially the one involving the president and the native American tribes. The character arcs for Bill McAllister and Jason Ross are clunky and repetitive, not very plausible. Despite its literary failings, it is a competently written and very well researched series. Especially in the first two books the authors effectively destroy some prepper myths and naivety. I'm a retired English teacher and published playwright, so my review is probably a little more critical than the average reader might compose. I would fully recommend reading the entire series.
I'm actually bummed out now that I'm finished. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but this means it's the end of the road for all these rich characters we've learned to love and hate. It was filled with surprising twists and turns, and I had no idea how it was going to end, other than the inevitable showdown between Castillo and McAllister. I was anxious to see how Sage returned to his family and how Mat Best joined the fray. I kept expecting to find out what happened to Cameron and his growing family who was reunited with his brother Tommy at the end of Honor Road. Not sure if I missed something or not. These authors have raised the bar for this type of fiction. I hope to find other series with close to this level of realism, tactics, and wit.
I have to admit, when I first started reading volume one of the series, I wasn’t sure if it was going to hook me like other books, but after the first few chapters, I knew I would be binge reading this until the very end. Excellent storyline, development of characters, action, drama – hell, even a little bit of love thrown in. Mr. Kirkham and Mr. Ross, my kudos to the both of you for knocking this one out of the park. You’ve definitely gained a new fan and I will be reading any other books associated with your names. I also do hope that they do decide to make a movie out of your books because it’s well worth it. Thank you!
Great series and the ending was great at wrapping it all up even as sad as it was. War is hell and never gets any better. The final story was another one of courage and faith. All battles must eventually have an ending and decisions are questioned and debated. No one answer is correct as the good faces the bad . Bravery at its best wins out . Great series. I would love to see Netflix or Starz to make a movie out of it. Not only would it be exciting but would also teach valuable lessons of an apocalypse.
Loved this book. I was upset after finishing the the Black Autumn Series (first 8 + short stories), it felt so unfinished. There were so many questions left unanswered. This book brought everything together and closed the loop for how all the books/stories tied together. Now there are still a couple loose ends still out there, but it appears the upcoming series (listed at the end of this book) will cover those. Great job, amazing series, loved it all the way through.
Well written with multiple plot twists. All the action kept me up reading way too late. I highly recommend it. I do have to say though, as an old tanker (yes, I was on M1A1s) the tank is not as invincible as described. Finally, I'd like to say, I think Jason and Jeff did a pretty good job bringing most of the characters back for a close. Thanks for the action guys.
Best series I have read since the original tom clancy
Solid action, believable characters explored in depth plus a lot of interesting information besides on all kinds of things, such as military tactics, agriculture, biology, botany, anthropology, native americans, and even a little theology.
The conclusion of the Black Autumn series was indeed a dramatic finish. We had the Mexicans, the Russians, the Mormons, and the Utah and Arizona militias come to a final battle outside of Salt Lake City. There was no shortage of back stabbing, treason, intrigue, and violence. Overall it was a fun series
What a spectacular ending to a great series. The manner the players from the series came to the final showdown was tastefully genius. I look forward to the next series! 😊 💕
Excellent follow to the first one I read. Confusing at times with so many soliloquies of philosophy interspersed with the thoughts about how to proceed at times. The battles were well described and realistic. Sets the future in a good way.
Good read and good follow up to the prequels. Closed chapters on some characters/stories, but really liked how it tied many of the previous Black Autumn books together. Hopefully, there's more to come with the Black Autumn series.
A good conclusion to the Black Autumn series. The authors did a great job of not falling into a rosy, everybody makes it out ok ending. I give them props for a Hollywood movie quality climax. The character arcs coming full circle was a good touch as well.
I have read my apocalyptic / SHTF novels. This is the best IMo. Not only are Ross and Kirkham excellent writers but I think they have scored a bullseye on what we will see. Thanks to both of them.
While being fiction it probably gives a better picture of what it will be like when, not if, the SHTF. With dems in charge the S will HTF sooner or later. The series actually ends on a high note. I pray it will in actuality.
This series truly draws you in. Enough twist to keep you guessing on which side to root for. The finale is a good wrap but I would enjoy another catch up in “1 year later” style.
The ending with the line, I became very emotional for every character. This series was the most engaging and thought-provoking reads of my reading challenge. It also was an eye-opener to what would happen if this scenario ever became real. Looking forward to future Ross books.
This book wrapped a lot of loose ends up. It was dramatic and compelling, the Native American group with the former president’s son and Mina and Bethany were not in this one but they do plan more of that thread later. Good reading
Well-written, probably the best of them. Compelling story, many a lost hour in the late nights to reading this, rather than sleeping. And a stark reminder that in chaos, we need to rely on the Divine to maintain humanity, rather than on “humanity” alone.
And disappointed. Just Hated this ending. Must if the book wasn’t worth reading. All the other stories were great. Wasted potential for otherwise excellent series
A good read, the army guys need a bit more actual input from their AF brothers and sisters...still wondering about the army and air guard in cheyenne...
After the fall, some very brave people took on there challenge to survive, and even tnrive. Great storytelling by the authors. highly recommended reading.
The authors have written a multi book series on " the end of society " as we know it. The scary part it is I can imagine all of these events actually occurring if society did break down. Blood Spring is near the end of the series. where the Utah militia is fighting the Mexican cartel. The authors weave in characters from the first book, the men who established the Homestead , in preparation for the break down of society. A lot of bad things happen, but also some good. If you enjoy this type of story. I would recommend you read the Black Autumn Series
