Rate this book
Lesbian/Sapphic Age Gap Slow Burn Romance: A lesbian age gap romance about finding the softest hearts behind the highest walls.
When blocking out pain means never allowing yourself to be loved, can you really believe you are living?

For Kristi Ivers, a forty-four year old flight attendant, life has proved itself to be unfair. By her twenties she’d already had more than her share of pain. Alone and unable to process the ache of loss she finds in stillness, Kristi’s life has become a busy throng of perpetual movement. Between work, travel and volunteering at Corazon De Las Colina, a dog shelter in central Costa Rica, she believes she has a full and happy life…until one fateful flight to San José.

Fenna Vargas, is a pediatric surgeon who has just completed her neonatal fellowship, and has the world at her feet. With the support of a large family headed up by her Nicaraguan grandmother, Yaya, Fenna believes in love. All you have to do is be bold and passionate… But is life really that easy?

Can Fenna’s belief in all that is good break down the lifetime of barriers upon which Kristi has built her life? Will the optimism of youth be enough to overpower the sage lessons of reality?

This is an age gap sapphic novel of lesbian romance, which embodies the love of animals and the wisdom of Nicaraguan grandmothers.

Prepare to be enchanted.

Wow. Was a nice surprise. I wasn’t expecting a book with so much emotion and depth. It moved me deeply. But be aware that there’re difficult topics in this book. Especially about grief and loss.
All is well at the end when the two MCs have gone through their personal evolution.
There’re some twists and turns in this book which I didn’t see coming. Which made it even more interesting to read.
Loved it and by the way the sex scenes were very hot. Highly recommend. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I enjoyed this audio book especially with Abby Craden narrating it. It’s a slow burn romance with only a bit of angst. I liked both characters and especially Grandma Yaya. The romance and dialog was good and plenty of hot scenes as well.

this was CUTEEEEE!! i imagined kristy to look like greta (d’arcy carden) from ‘a league of their own’ which totally amplified her sexiness factor!

i’m not gonna lie though, ‘rescuing hearts’ was a tiny bit too insta love for me. the characters were realising their love for each other like 20% in, which is a little too fast paced for me, the average slowburn enjoyer. but that’s mainly a point of personal preference!

that being said, if you’re looking for a book thats funny with well developed characters with real issues that they work through together and the added garnish of utterly loveable side characters (shoutout to yaya), this one’s for you!

I just realized my dream lady is a flight attendant that travels to an exotic country to volunteer at the local dog rescue shelter. 🥰

This story had me in tears 🥺 Some real emotional moments. I loved both characters - career driven, caring, funny, they both volenteer their time to good causes. Their chemistry was hott and things between them got very steamy.

If you're in the mood for a heartwarming romantic drama, this book is perfect! Can't wait to read more from Ruby Scott!

What a great read this was! The book takes you through an array of emotions as we learn about Kirsti’s past and her doubts about the future and Fenna’s present through her niece’s fight for life. Also let;s not forget about all the steamy sessions from their encounters. An absolute must read, looking forward to the next one in the series.

Another well written novel by Ruby Scott, taking the reader through a whole spectrum of emotions following the ups and downs of Kristi, a member of cabin crew, and Fenna, a paediatric surgeon, as their relationship develops. There are some fantastic one liners that had tears rolling down my cheeks, just so funny. Oh, and some rather hot steamy scenes too!

Watch out for the grandmother Yaya who comes across as a larger-than-life character despite her stature, I would love to meet her, she is just so special and very entertaining.

This novel, the first in The Healing Heart Series, covers a wide range of genres – Age Gap, HEA, Medical Profession, Animal on the cover (if you are following any bingo cards) to mention a few.
I would not hesitate to recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my!! What a great read. Wonderful characters, lots of laughter over some hilarious scenes. But also some serious touch when it comes to testing for cancer. And there are lot of cute animals. I found it very real characters and Yaya was such a family lady. A real granny:). Thank you Ruby for a lovely story, I enjoyed it very very much.

A got an ARC from the author for an honest review

It’s a high level 3 ⭐️ some parts are very engaging but there’s a style of the author’s writing, in this case with it being 1st person as well, that just means all the thoughts and tiny steps in interactions are overly detailed and I found myself skipping over them and still getting all the story I needed. At its core though, there’s a real growth that happens for Kristi mostly, which I adored. She was able to fully live her life when she found Fenna to be the best possible motivation to dream for herself. Fenna gave stability, shared her family and still allowed Kristi to come to the decisions herself so I thought it was a beautiful love story in that regard. They really shared the things that were most important in their lives and both ended up better off for it. Yaya (grandmother) is a top tier character full of wisdom and antics and honestly, we would all be so lucky to have that level of interference in our lives. Provided it’s coming from someone who truly knows you, with your best interest at heart. It was better work than any Cupid fairytale.

Unsure if I would be jumping into a series as this felt really well rounded as an ending but we shall see!

A full story for it being a little shorter.

I liked the characters, and there was a lot handled emotionally between both characters. It was a little heavy at time. The spicy scenes were well done.

This was such a beautifully written book that immediately captured my attention with subtle humor in the first paragraph. I continued to smile many times in this story.
There was love, adventure, anticipation, and falling in love with the main characters, Kristi and Fenna, who filled me with warm feelings as they were so sensually and sexually attracted to each other that all I wanted was a HEA!
There was the adorable Yaya, Fenna’s 4’9” Nicaraguan grandmother who charmed and warmed her way….and got her way! Having the benefit of a lifetime of experiences, she created so many moments of wisdom and humor that everyone who reads this will also embrace her.
Kristi, a flight attendant, often flew to Costa Rica, volunteering at an animal shelter. Fenna, the intriguing passenger in 25C, a pediatric surgeon who worked with premature birth babies, also travelled there. This was their beginning.
There was some natural and understandable angst as they both held back giving in to their feelings, needing the wisdom provided by a certain little grandmother! It was so enjoyable to witness how Yaya performed her magic.
Ruby Scott also has a definite gift for ramping up sexual tension and building anticipation that doesn’t disappoint. That warmed more than my heart!! This wasn’t sappy romance but I have to confess that I shed happy tears more than once!
I hope we hear more from Kristi, Fenna and her hilarious and adorable grandmother, Yaya…and of course from canines Dulzura and Bribión! I also can’t wait to read more by Ruby Scott.

The first paragraph had me smiling, the next few grimacing as the writer is very descriptive! The first few chapters did a great job of hooking me. Then I thought there was going to be a common trope, then there wasn't, then there was! A common destination by a new, entertaining path!
As the book progresses it get sadder. The emotional scene, with Kirsti’s explanation is sad but I wasn’t totally involved in it. That is possibly me rather than the writing.
I read the section after Kristi lets Fenni in, with my jaw clenched. The immersion I was missing in the emotional scene, I had in spades here. You know that way, in your head you are shouting at the main not to do what it looks like she might? (No spoiler, but she didn’t, yet!)
There are plenty of hot scenes, I will confess one irritated me because I thought it got in the way of the plot. I know there are others think the plot stops the hot in some books. I recommend you make up your own mind. I was pretty engaged in some sections, less in others (see above comment) but I enjoyed the book. 3.5 all in, rounded up because I was on a flight after reading this and when I saw the sick bag I started laughing!

So sweet!

It‘s just nice to read a story, in between the stress of the week, that warms your heart.
Those two characters stole it too.
I love Kristi as much as Fenna and Yaya is simply the best!
Funny, cute, romantic, extremely hot and so easy to read.
Beautifully written, but I expect nothing less from Ruby Scott!
I love all of her stories, but his one is definitely a favorite!

Rescuing Hearts is a woman love woman romantic story between a flight attendant and a pediatric surgeon, with amazing chemistry and great locations and emotional twists and turns, and fantastic supporting characters, this is the book that I couldn't putting down until finish. It is like seeing a movie, the MCs are vivid and personable and very likable, I feel like I know them inside and out and can't help but rooting for them with a well deserved happy ending, highly recommended.

Rescuing Hearts is the first book in Ruby Scott's Healing Hearts series, and it opens with a meet-cute at 33,000 feet. Kristi Ivers is a 44-year-old flight attendant who's turned staying uncommitted into an art form — one-night stands in far-flung cities, never the same woman twice, no roots, no risk. When a rough flight to Costa Rica seats her behind pediatric surgeon Fenna Vargas, what's supposed to be one more forgettable night turns into something Kristi can't shake.

Fenna, fresh off her neonatal fellowship and surrounded by the warmth of a big Nicaraguan family — headed by her formidable grandmother, Yaya — still believes in love without reservation. The two keep colliding, on flights and off, and slowly Kristi's carefully built walls start to give. But she's hiding something: a family medical history that's left her convinced she has no business promising anyone a future. When crisis hits Fenna's family, that fear gets put to the test, and both women have to decide what they're actually willing to risk for each other.

Don't you love it when a newly discovered author you enjoy is also prolific? I started this series because I want to get to the ice-queen in book two, but wasn't sure I could read it as a standalone — so why not just start at the beginning. I'm so glad I did. The age gap between Kristi and Fenna gave the whole thing a different texture than a lot of romance I read, the drama landed without ever feeling manufactured, and the heat was very much there when it counted. And then there's Yaya — an absolute scene-stealer, exactly the kind of larger-than-life grandmother figure you want in a found-family story. The dogs at Kristi's shelter didn't hurt either. Solid writing, as always from Ruby Scott — this was a great place to start.

Rescuing Hearts brings us two lovely characters, Kristi and Fenna. Both had very different backgrounds and lives growing up - but they are so good for each other. Both bring out the parts in the other that have kept them from moving forward with their lives, lending each other strength and courage.

Ruby Scott is the master of description and will grab you from the very beginning of this book - even if you then develop a hate of carrots. All through the book, even with the ups and downs of the relationship between Kristi and Fenna, we are guided in a way that makes us fall even more in love with the characters as the story progresses.

Written from POV's, this makes for a very emotional rollercoaster ride...but in the sweetest way. We have Kristi who is afraid to love. Fenna who is afraid she is moving too fast. And Yaya who is here to save the day. This book will make you laugh and cry but it's all more than worth it in the end.

Yaya is one of my favourite characters - she is funny, a meddler, says it like it is, and has the biggest heart of all. Her chapters are witty and hilarious and make me want a grandmother just like her.

It's full of cute canines, dog shelter assistance and volunteering medical help in underprivileged countries.

Oh and the steaminess of this book is *chefs kiss*. These scenes are always a great read when written by Ruby!

This book is a must-read

Rescuing Hearts was so much more than I initially thought it was going to be based on the simplicity of the synopsis.

I was hooked from the first chapter when Kristi, one of our mains, was forced to hold her seatmate's hair back as the woman vomited her way to Costa Rica.

This book was told in first person from both main characters' points of view. I found that this was a highly effective technique because it allowed me to learn exactly what was going on in each woman's head and made the book that much more emotional. About halfway through the book, a third character, Yaya's first-person point of view was included. I was simply delighted when the author shifted to Yaya's point of view because she was such an integral part of helping Kristi and Fenna make their fledgling relationship work. This was the first time I encountered a book told from three characters' points of view!

Kristi and Fenna were clearly meant to be together. Fenna stated, "I don't want tonight to end. Just being in her company, laughing together is right." This quote sums up what a perfect match the two were.

Rescuing Hearts, while a perfect sapphic romance with multidimensional characters, is also about courage, change, and vulnerability. You are never too old to chase your dreams. Grief while crippling doesn't get better, it gets different. Fear can be replaced by hope. Dogs are incredible. Love conquers all.

A beautiful and enchanting love story

When you give yourself a chance to move on and to hold on to love, the reward is life-changing.

Kristi Ivers is a forty-four-year-old woman who has been through a lot, as a consequence, she has built walls so high and thick, that are almost impenetrable. When she isn’t in her regular job as a flight attendant, she spends her time as a volunteer in a dog shelter in Costa Rica, where she is the most happier.
Fenna Vargas is a young woman and a paediatric surgeon, who is just concluding her neonatal fellowship. With a bright future ahead and an adorable grandmother who has taught her to believe in love and to go for it. There’s nothing to stop her, she just needs to be bold.
What happens when two very different women find each other and their beliefs are tested? Lessons in love and passion wait for them.

I enjoyed this book very much, the beginning is unconventional but there’s a good reason for it. It grabbed my attention right away.

I simply loved Fenna and Kristi's journey. They're perfect for each other, and Fenna’s grandmother Yaya is amazing. The story is well-developed, the character growth is something wonderful to witness and the pace is impeccable.

It's a very interesting, heartfelt and intense, emotional journey, about love; fighting your demons, self-love and growth.

I highly like to recommend this book.

An ARC copy of this book was given to me by the Author and I'm voluntarily leaving my review.

A fly by romance!
I titled this review a fly by romance, because that’s how Ruby starts out this love story. An off duty flight attendant on a plane, sees a beautiful woman in 25C and has a flicker of recognition. They happen to meet up at their destination and a no promises hook up leads them into a relationship that just continues to grow.
Ruby has written a wonderful story, full of love, fur babies and a pistol of a grandmother (the sexy times are smokin’ hot, too) The characters will make you smile, laugh and at times shed a tear. They are very well written and the life they build together is one we all wish for. The flow of the story will carry you right along and the editing is spot on, nothing to drag you out of the story. So, plan a few hours on the couch with your feet up, some snacks and your favorite beverage within reach. You won’t want to stop reading once you open this one up.

What an enjoyable read. Kristi is a flight attendant. Fenna is a Doctor. There is a bit of an age gap which I love. While they both live around Denver they meet in Costa Rico. Kristi goes there to volunteer at a dog shelter. Fenna goes to volunteer her medical services. Kristi is a one night stand type person. With no family left in her life. Fenna really wants a relationship. And Fenna has a large family. Who she has a great life with. Especially her grandmother Yaya. I wish I had a Yaya. She is a wonderful, funny, caring person. While parts of this book is very uplifting and funny. There is important thread that runs through it. It is the main reason Kristi is a one night stand person. Fenna is loving and caring and helps Kristi through her issues. Parts made me laugh out loud. And parts made me cry. It is a special book to make me do both. This is a book I highly recommend. I did receive an ARC but these are my own views. Enjoy.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the balance between found family and the family you’re born into. Ruby Scott does such a beautiful job showing that both kinds of relationships can shape us, challenge us, and ultimately help us become the people we’re meant to be. The support, loyalty, and love woven throughout this story made it feel just as heartwarming as it was romantic.

I also appreciated that this romance wasn’t instant. It was a reminder that timing matters, people grow, and sometimes life takes us in different directions before bringing us back together. That made the relationship feel even more authentic and rewarding to watch unfold.

The main characters completely won me over, but the supporting cast deserves just as much credit. Every character felt like they had a purpose, adding humor, heart, and depth to the story rather than simply filling space.

Ruby Scott has a way of writing characters you genuinely want to spend time with.

Rescuing Hearts: A Sapphic Novel of Lesbian Romance (The Healing Hearts Series Book 1)

Age-gap

This is my first book by the author and it was amazing!  .

The story does hit home. Losing your loved ones can never be easy. Kristi had a lot of pain from the past and wanted to protect herself, but Fenna was the one woman she could not forget .

I was so happy to see Kristi finally trust the love her and Fenna shared. It was magic and they could both feel it from the start.

Side note: Fenna’s  grandmother added so much charm to the story. She really shed a light on the importance of family. She was pure wisdom and she basically was the glue that helped Fenna and Kristi find their way back together.

This is my first book in the series and I can’t wait for book2 I highly recommend this book 5 stars.

Tears! All the tears! Anxious tears, tears of sadness, tears of relief, tears of laugher and many tears of joy! Rescuing Hearts delivers on every single level. It’s a heartwarming and wholesome story about two MCs who each carry their own fears but can’t help the avalanche of emotions they set off in one another.

This book made me smile, laugh, cry and more than once, a silent gasp fell from my lips!

But among the emotional rollercoaster and beautiful story, I will take two things from this book…

Firstly, the knowledge that everyone needs a Yaya in their life! Utterly precious and one of my favourite characters in a very long time!

And secondly, HOPE. Being brave enough to hope. Daring to hope. Giving yourself permission to hope.

This book and these beautifully messy characters may well have stolen a little piece of my heart today…

I have yet to read a book by Ruby that I don’t like, and this certainly isn’t it. It’s such a beautiful story and had me feeling so many emotions that I can relate to. I began reading it on flight 5 out of 7 during my holiday trip and had to chuckle at the beginning of the story taking place on a plane!
The balance of humour and heartache is perfect and the romance and sex is even better. I fell in love with Yaya and I am sure everyone would benefit from having someone like her in their lives. It really highlights that family doesn’t have to mean being blood related and I love the joy and contentment this brings to Kristi. Fenna and Kristi’s developing relationship and the story Ruby weaves around them kept me captivated to the end and I heaved a sigh of happiness and had a big grin on my face when I finished.

A lovely sexy, hart warming story and then it gets heavy. Two lovable women, struggling with private demons. One who cannot get over the fact of losing her baby niece through a condition she specializes in - the other not wanting to find out if the disease that killed her mother and grandmother will take her too. Surrounding the two women are the 'well meaning' family members, especially Fenna's Yaya, who is the oracle and match maker of the clan. Kristy has her 'adopted' family at the dog shelter she spends most of her free time at.
This is were it looses one star for me (totally personal - I do not like dogs). When Kristy brings Fenna to the dog shelter and Fenna gets slobbered over by the kennel dogs - yuck.
