this volume focuses on Akira and his twin brother, there’s some hostage situations happening and another battle where Kabane once again proves to be the real MVP. that ending got dark so fast.. like wtf is going on?!
This volume is about Akira and his Twin. There is abuse, and you feel so bad for Akira’s Twin. He and Akira are told they must save their people. Whoever hits puberty first will have the village. A village that is 95 percent female... The men have lost their sanity and has become impotent. As you can imagine, Akira’s Twin hits puberty first and is sexually abused by the women in the village. Kabane and the rest of the agency are there to help Akira and uncover more about Kabane’s parents.
Second time reading this part of the series (first time was online, now is the physical release) I think I'm getting close to where I left off when I read online but not sure... Still a good read!
Autor nie umie zwyczajnie przedstawić uczuć, a często wręcz je olewa, by zrobić śmieszną scenkę.
Mimo to końcowa fabuła o bracie ratowała ten tom.
This is still an enjoyable book, but as a whole, Kemono Jihen is starting to suffer a little from not having a central villain. You could argue that Inari fills that role, but she's usually just off in the background, doing her own thing. Lacking a core antagonist isn't immediately a bad thing, as it can be done well, even in a shonen/seinen series--just look at Dorohedoro. For a sizable chunk of that story, there really is no one you could point to and say with authority, "that person is the villain." The difference between that series and this one, however, is that even when the story took a detour here and there, there was were strong main goals driving not only the heroes, but a lot of secondary characters as well. Kemono Jihen sort of has that. But...
The thing is, we're quickly burning through those character motivations. In general, our heroes all want to reconnect with, or learn more about family members they've lost...and in the span of a few volumes, we've more or less met those goals for Shiki, and now Akira. Kabane still hasn't reconciled things with his parents yet, but his is really the last remaining goal of the group. That leaves the rest of the story feeling a bit directionless--not quite "enemy of the week" or anything, but it does feel like the characters just kind of coast along until a case or coincidence happens to bring them to their goals. With the (rather disturbing) way this volume ends, maybe Akira's extended family/clan is going to become a major threat, but we'll have to wait and see.
On the upside, the art is still great, the characters are still likable and genuine, the action's solid, and the world Aimoto is building is an interesting one. But the directionless nature of the overall story could really benefit from something to give it a better sense of focus sooner, rather than later.
The first volume of Kemono Jihen was much better than I anticipated, so I gladly continued with the series. Since then, though, the story has been somewhat messy and disconnected. Also, in this volume, it feels like Akira's arc is thrust into the story too quickly (nonetheless, I slightly relate to him in chapter two). My point is I don't plan to continue the series.
The first chapter of this volume is admittedly quite funny, even if it isn't especially important to the story. I like the implication that Mihai is quite famous online. The rest of the volume is okay. The ending is a bit strange and dark, and other reviews seem to agree.
As a parting thought, I'll say the same thing I said about the previous volume: I didn't know his hair was white like that.
This is going to be the last volume of this series that I'll read. It skews too silly most of the time in a way that I'm not really a fan of. I'm also not a fan of how that story flows, and the characters are becoming boring to me. The art is the only thing I'm still liking in the series, since it's fine to look at with some really nice panels from time to time.

Another good volume bit while I am enjoying these short ‘arcs’ I am kind of missing a more overarching storyline, hopefully we will get it now we have introduced Shiki and in the middle of introducing Akira’s backstory.
I first read this manga back in 2019 and decided to reread it after binge-watching the anime a while back, as well as hearing about an official English release coming soon. This volume revealed Akira’s more mature twin brother and his possible connections to Kabane’s parents. Poor Akane goes through a lot this volume as a result of some hurtful words from Shiki (and a clueless yet blunt Kabane), and his brother reentering his life. Hopefully things looks up for both Akira and his brother, despite the battle and, a troubling flashback that will get revealed more in the next volume.
