Zodiac Cove #3

A Touch Enchanted

Rate this book
Violet Fischer has lived in Zodiac Cove her entire life and has been in love with Donovan Latham for just as long. They’d been best friends since kindergarten, but when he left the island shortly after she confessed her feelings for him, she vowed never to let him know how bad his rejection crushed her. Their friendship survived the eight years they were apart. But it might not survive the magic that burns hot between them.

As a descendant of Pisces, Violet has always been drawn to the water. It only makes sense to her that touching Donovan would give her the ability to breathe under it. Too bad he’s been avoiding her ever since that first spark of magic ignited between them. Violet is desperate to master her gift, but not if it means once again asking Donovan for something he’s not willing to give.

Donovan Latham spent eight long years away from his home and the woman he’s loved for his entire life. Family obligation kept him away, but when he returned, the Virgo in him started making plans to make Violet Fischer his at last. Until an earthquake released both magic and a deadly curse on the island. Now, he can’t bear to be around her, knowing that when he touches her, it’s only magic that makes her think she wants him.

But when the curse moves from the center of the island to the ocean, guarding something it doesn’t want the descendants to find, they have no choice but to work together. Because as the only pair who can put up a fight in the water, the curse has set its sights on them. If they can’t figure out a way to be honest with each other once and for all, they have no hope of using their magic to discover what the curse is hiding. And no hope of saving the island they call home.

We are definitely moving up again with the curse and how it’s acting. It’s gotten more dangerous and more rampant and the final twist in this books makes it sure the Zodiac people are running on borrowed time.

If the last book focused on body horror, this one focused on the paranormal and we got some good clues and revelations on what the curse had done and why. I’m very curious to see what happens next.

The couple Violet and Donovan were childhood friends who had a massive falling out yesss back until Donovan returned to the island. So we have a second chance romance -sort of thing happening with a lot of spice and a lot of miscommunication. I wanted to bash Donovan’s head in, he was an absolute dumbty but I am glad Violet could forgive him time and time again. And I’m glad he saw the error of his ways also.

This book also amped the spice factor. I don’t mind it but compared to the other books, there were definitely a lot more happening in the proverbial bedroom than before. These two were really going at it like bunnies!

The book does end on a cliffhanger which every book has done and I’m curious to see what happens with Kenna and Galen and their story which is next.

I dunno who I saw promoting this book but Iom shouldn't have listened. This book was boring. The heroine had no backbone. She lets her douchebag of a bestfriend back into her life almost as soon as she opens the door for him.

Also, she feels deep and lets her emotions rule her because she is a pisces 😂
I also found it weird because anytime she came into contact with him, she turned into some kind of mermaid or siren even when they kissed which feels too close to monster romance for me so I"ll opt out thank you very much.

Not to mention that he is not sorry for cutting loose he just feels stupid. I should also add that there is a way he discusses his sex life with his bro that is disgusting to me.

Jesus Christ. I could not catch a fucking break. “What do you want me to say? That I had her pressed against the door with her nipple in my mouth while she ground her pussy against me so hard I was seeing stars? That if you hadn’t knocked, I was about two seconds away from tearing off her shorts and rutting inside her like a goddamn animal?”

No. Just say that he stopped sth good.

OK so I have to admit I was pretty skeptical to read this one just for the fact that none of the powers are combative so I was really wondering where the author was going with this. But I wanted to give it a try anyways. My problem with this book has to Them having the stupidest fights and separations that could have easily been talked out also for the fact that when Donovan messes up, Violet easily forgive him. It's honestly kind of infuriating does all she says is I forgive you and that's both times. Their dynamic did get better after they started to though however this is my least favorite from the series so far.

Purely subjective review, I grabbed this book blind and it was a pretty decent read but even though it’s a standalone in a series imo it cannot be read as a standalone. So going in blind really cut my experience down a peg.

urban

Prophecy takes over the town. 4 of the 6 couples involved now but primarily number 3. They were a previous couple.

2.5 disappointed ⭐
I have been loving this series. Really loving it - reading a book a day. Until this one.

The paranormal and background story is still awesome and has the right pace. The secondary characters (especially the mc's from the previous books) still great. The steamy scenes are pretty hot too.
The author's writing keeps shining and transporting us to that place within the book with ease.

BUT:
1. This couple made me go mad. Both stupid immature morons. Both of them. The miscommunication kept happening at the most stupid and unrequited steps and levels. And they were supposed to be best friends since childhood 🙄🙄🙄 how ridiculous. They acted like they didn't know each other.
The first two books did have some kind of miscommunication or assumption happening (tropes I hate), but there was a solid motive for it and was dealt with with some maturity. In this book was just, not only gratuitous but childish.

2. Also, the repetition I "complained" about in the first book came back with a bang and a looooot of extra inner monologues. Maybe it was that I was not so invested in the romance plot, but I ended up skipping paragraphs after 40% of the book and at some chapters only concentrating on the ones with dialogue.

I'll read one more book in the series because this one might have been a hiccup. If the next goes down the same line as this one, I'll be sadly done.
