I didn’t know I’ll enjoy this so much. Taken in consideration that I don’t listen audiobooks too much - actually: close to zero. But this was awesome! Sound design and mix production? 10/10. Voices? Actors? WOW! 10/10. And the story was great.

This wasn’t quite as good as the other Marvel podcasts, but it was still interesting. It doesn’t feature a lot of action, though there’s a lot (maybe too much) character development. I could be biased, as Hawkeye isn’t my favorite Avenger. In all, it’s engaging but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

This podcast is the second of a new series that takes place in an apocalyptic world, 30 years after the fall of the Avengers and X-Men heroes. It is obviously inspired by the graphic novel series Old Man Logan but isn't necessarily following that storyline. This series first included Star-Lord and will eventually include seasons about Black Widow, Doctor Doom and Wolverine.

In this season, we improbably discover a blinded Hawkeye (Clint) is the star attraction in a traveling circus, which makes him relive the day that the heroes fell to the villains, leaving him the only Avenger left. His estranged teenage daughter Ash finds him and asks him to help her get revenge against someone who wronged her, but Clint has his own plans for vengeance against Zemo. I am looking forward to future seasons to find out how the older scattered heroes are able to find one another and rise up against the villains who took over the world!

Clint Barton is a hero has-been, a washed-up, drunken star attraction of the Ringmaster's circus in King Zemo's territory, part of the American wasteland after V-day. He plays his part well, but he's blind with revenge, and he's only biding his time.

As usual, Marvel's podcast has top notch production values. The story is compelling, and Hawkeye's historical character arcs and supporting cast (Bobbi Morse, Kate, Ash) provide a rich backdrop, but the plot builds up to a climax that ultimately fizzles.

Der einzige Überlebende der Avengers, Clint Barton, alias Hawkeye (Mark Waschke), erlebt nun jeden Abend in der Manege vor den Augen der Zuschauer den schlimmsten Tag seines Lebens wieder und wieder. Übellaunig, gebrochen und halb blind brennt in ihm immer noch der Wunsch, ein letztes Mal ein Held zu sein und seine Freunde zu rächen. Er ist bereit, diejenigen zu töten, die für den Tod der Menschen verantwortlich sind, die er am meisten liebte.

Als der Zirkus der Bruderschaft samt Rummel und Ringmasters Road Show in Zemos Königreich Halt macht, bekommt Clint unerwarteten Besuch von seiner 17-jährigen Tochter Ash (Shari Asha Crosson), die er seit Jahren nicht gesehen hat. Nachdem sie ihre große Liebe verloren hat, will auch Ash Rache nehmen und besteht darauf, Hawkeye auf seiner geheimen Mission zu begleiten. Dabei lernt sie, was es bedeuten kann, eine wahre Heldin zu sein.

Meine Meinung: Bereits die erste Staffel, die sich um Star-Lord gedreht hat, hat mir gefallen. Die zweite Staffel war auch cool. Die Beschreibung hat mich neugierig gemacht, die Sprecher und Sprecherinnen waren großartig! Auch die Musik, das Sounddesign und die Foleys waren wieder einmal super.
Fazit: Man bleibt beim hören dran und möchte wissen wie es weitergeht. Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert für alle, die das Marvel Universum lieben und für alle die neues entdecken möchten. :)

It's my pleasure to be back in this desolate world. it's a pity that the characters I met this time aren't as compelling as the one ones in the first volume. However, the plot and the world building make up for it.

I absolutely loved the circus and the tension surrounding drugs and mutant blood. It was an absolute pleasure to navigate the complex parenthood of the different characters.

Zemo, as the main villain, was disappointing to me. He never manages to capture the scene or to be a threat to the characters, and despite the book being about his kingdom, I still don't get how he managed to be on the winning side.

All in all, it's a pleasant ride but less than the first volume. I'm looking forward to the third one 😀

Recommended for people that like their coffee cold and take the time to think things over before rushing into action.

The entire time I listened to this I couldn't help but try to imagine how the Wastelanders' United States of America could really come to pass with evil authoritarians, fascists, and monsters carving up the country into zones. It is hard to picture because this near future is so different from our own reality.

Then America's presidential election of 2024 happened right when I was finishing it.

The story does provide hope that, even if it takes a generation or two, authoritarian regimes eventually fall, due to heroic actions by heroes, and even by small acts of kindness by people no one knows or even regard as heroes.

The ending's surprise was quite off the wall, and not completely plausible even in this implausible setting, but why not? It was a good story.
