Rate this book
In Texas quarter-horse country, the magnificent animals are fast, beautiful and expensive - just like their privileged owners.

First place in the All-American Futurity brings more than just the richest purse in the nation. It brings power, prestige, and ignites passions that flame hotter and brighter in the winner's circle than anywhere else.

Just about anyone with a good horse, a big dream, or an angle. Including the lucky lady whose mother won a breeding ranch in a poker game. The Arab determined to create the fastest horse who ever lived. An aging cowboy star with one last chance at the brass ring. An ambitious woman reporter with her eyes on the big time - and the big money. A wealthy young polo player ready to give up the sport of gentlemen for the sport of kinds... And with the stakes so high, not everyone is content to let the best horse win.

Not when there are other ways to get what you want - like theft, blackmail...and murder.

This is not a book I would have picked up for myself. The characters are genuinely likeable. The plot revolves around a quarter horse race and the ending is a surprise. I liked the book and even though it was given to me, I am glad I read it.
