The hit NBC television series takes the comics world by storm. Series co-executive producer Peter Johnson ( Rising Son) and series writer Zev Borow join with artists Jeremy Haun (The Leading Man), Phil Noto (Jonah Hex) to take Chuck Bartowski and his friends on a globe-trotting, action-packed adventure too big for television! Will Chuck survive his first trips to Japan, South America, Eastern Europe and Singapore?
Went and picked up the Chuck graphic novel last weekend after watching the show's finale. It's actually pretty good, definitely better than the cheap tie-in I expected.
It's actually written by Zev Borow and Peter Johnson, who were writers on some of the early episodes. It's a fun story where Chuck, Casey, and Sarah save Senator O'Bannon (aka: Obama stand-in). Pretty light-hearted story that slots in well early on in the show's continuity. I recommend if you're craving just a little bit more Chuck.
I also love the back-up stories, entitled "Captain Awesome's Tips for Being Awesome."
Let's get it started, ok? If you've read this or planning on reading it, you're most definitely a fan of "Chuck". And if we, the fans, have to be honest, a huge part of the show's appeal was in the humour and Chuck's ridiculous antics. When i started reading, i was a little disappointed. It was obvious the artist(s) gave their best. The likeness to the characters (Especially Casey, gen. Backman and the nerd herd-ers)was simply incredible. It seems the artist had quite the trouble with Sarah, but it didn't made me like the art any less. They've made an effort to feature Chuck's nerdy humour too. But the jokes fell flat. Maybe because Chuck's expressions never really changed. The amrican's steriotypical method of drawing comics doesn't give its characters the freedom of facial expressions as, let say, mangas do. But KEEP READING!!
It get's better. Yeah, the plot is still unbelievably predictable and Sarah doesn't look better. But i guess the creators of the comics have seen their mistake cause these last issues had that spark the show has. And the ending...let's say it's in a true Agent Carmichael style..;)
About the mini-comics at the end of every issue - Morgan:Awesome = 1:0 Morgan's comics were funny and I could just hear Joshua Gomez's voice narrating. Awesome's tough... they were boring and all the while reading them i had the feeling i was accidentally reading "Superman" from the '60.
Overall, I don't regret picking it up; it was quite the fun seeing Chuck as that poor schmuck from season 1-3.
This really doesn't hold up well at all to where the TV show went after the first season. The writers just seem to want to fly off to various locales, in an attempt to avoid a big budget for an actual TV show. Comic book art for a TV show, when everyone knows what the characters look like, is difficult, and this wasn't an especially good effort. The storyline, involving a Barack Obama character, wasn't that great. And the Captain Awesome-derived humor didn't age well, given that the writers decided to make Devin a well-rounded character.
Hmm... me gusta que hagan comics de series que me gustan, (casi) siempre se agradece ver más sobre personajes que te interesan. Y bueno, este comic esta bien. A secas.
I love Chuck. This was a fun little story, and I really liked Captain Awesome's little side comics as well. The art was pretty great. Good likeness for the majority of the characters. The only character who's comic version I wasn't a fan of was Sarah. The comic version of her really didn't look like her at all.
The dialogue and relations between the characters is spot on, strong likenesses, apart from Sarah who has none of te beaut of Yvonne Strahovski, but the plot is entertaining and rollicks past and all the humour is there.
It's not a particularlly great comic book the plot is not memorable and and the artwork is okay, however as a great Chuck fan this book really shines as it captures the show's and character's essence! For the 9€ I paid for it was very worth it.
I liked Captain Awesome's story better. Chuck's was... disjointed. Although kudos for making the characters look just like their tv counterparts. I'll stick with the tv show.
