Scoring the One

Rate this book
Star baseball player Bishop Henson was Bailey Landon’s biggest crush—until every interaction with him leaves her believing that he’s nothing but a playboy. Unfortunately, she keeps running into the infuriatingly handsome athlete at every turn. But she has bigger issues, including figuring out a way to save her family’s farm. Right now, she doesn’t need the complications that come with a relationship, and she’s not about to risk her heart to the local baseball team’s celebrity shortstop.

At least that’s what she thought.

It turns out, there might be more to baseball’s biggest player than meets the eye. Can Bishop change Bailey’s mind about him? Or will these two opposites strike out in the game of love?

4 Star Review Scoring The One (A Brides of Banneker Novel, #1) by S E Rose

When I heard that S.E.Rose had a new series releasing I was eager to read Scoring The One, the first book in the her A Brides of Banneker series. This is Bishop Henson and kindergarten teacher Bailey Landon’s story.

It was well written, entertaining and I quickly became hooked on the story that Ms.Rose wove. Bailey, at 33 feels that life is passing her by and she is worried how she is going to save her family’s farm. Having crushed on Bishop for quite some time, she is grateful when he helps her when she injures her arm.

She never thought that baseball star player Bishop would ever be interested in her and yet there is something sizzling between them. There is so much more to Bishop than he lets shine through and the fact that he is five years younger than Bailey only adds to her reservations.

I enjoyed the journey as their relationship developed; it was witty, sweet and romantic.

Scoring the One is like all your favorite things in a romantic comedy rolled into one. Laugh out loud mishaps and swoon worthy moments are what S.E is known for and she did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down!

Oh, Bishop. You may have some wretched luck, buddy. Terrible first and second impressions, colors that aren’t right for you, and the knowledge that the woman you’re attracted to thinks you’re less than wonderful. Can you repair it? Can you recover? But most importantly, can you win her heart without breaking yours?

And Bailey. You may not want to let go of that crush just yet. Or, at least remember that not all is as it seems. Especially come one pivotal moment that could ruin it all. Let yourself fall for the guy. You have no idea what he’d do for you.

These two have some humorous moments, some embarrassing moments, and definitely steamy moments. And as they get to know each other, I find myself wondering how this might go. Will it be good, bad, a little of both? Is there a forever here? I’ll admit to being a little surprised by the lengths Bishop will go to just to make Bailey happy, but I also wouldn’t have it any other way. After all, this is Banneker. The town of oddball residents and animals, home to fun and embarrassment all in one fell swoop, and support for each other like you wouldn’t believe. We also meet new faces and I can’t wait to see who gets their time to shine next.

Perplexing

This was a sweet story with the required HEA, but one thing only contributed to my mediocre rating: her lack of knowledge about professional baseball. Anyone who is well-versed in the sport knows there are games at least five nights a week, starting around 7 and ending around 10. There are almost always day games on Sunday and often on Wednesday. And the teams have batting practice just before games. And there are ALWAYS games on Saturday. Scheduling snafus in major league sports just do not happen. There would not be parties every Saturday night nor would players finish games in time for dinner after driving an hour or more. Plus teams travel at least half the season. They always seem to be around for T-ball games and all kinds of activities. I realize this seems petty and nitpicking, it is a fantasy after all, but when baseball is the centerpiece of your book, the basics should be accurate.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

If you have read the authors previous series about the Moore family, this story takes place in the same world and also includes those characters. It stars Bailey who is one of Di Moore's friends and Bishop who is a baseball player with Clark Moore on his team. While it is part of the world, this story stands alone very well.

This story can be considered a second chance romance as Bailey and Bishop have known each other awhile. Bailey, age 33, has crushed on him, but she got over it when she saw some things he did and had a really negative opinion of him. Meanwhile Bishop, age 28, yes, he is a younger guy, has noticed Bailey but not wanting to risk his friendship with the Moore family because romantically he is a bad bet, he never took a shot with her.

This is a story about discovering who you are, the good, the bad and the awesome. It's about taking a chance and believing in yourself and risking yourself for a chance at a true love. It's a story about growing up, maturing and growing up into the person you want to be.

There is a tiny bit of drama with a fling of Bishops, but I love how he dealt with it. It showed his maturity and how he is feeling about Bailey.

I adored seeing the Moore family again and how the family is growing and changing. This was a really fun, hot and sexy story and I loved how the two characters are so drawn to each other and can't fight their feelings for each other. If you love a sassy female lead and a hot and sexy baseball player who cannot resist each other then you will love this romance.

#scoringtheone is an all new book from #thebridesofbannekerseries by @seroseauthor

Bishop has history as a playboy. He was young and had real money for the first time when he joined the MLB. Now that he’s had some life changes and grew up a little he’s ready to settle down, but being a professional baseball player it’s hard to know who’s genuine. Now it seems like he’s finally noticing a teammates friend who’s been around for ages. Bailey is beautiful, smart and funny. Can he prove that he’s not the playboy he once was and wants something serious or is his past going to haunt him and let his dream girl walk away?

Bailey hasn’t had many long term relationships. But she’s always had dreams of finding the one and getting married. She’s crushed on Bishop for a while, but has the thought he’s not serious and not looking for long term. Once she spends some time with him, she realizes that she was wrong. He’s kind, funny and sweet. But can she believe he wants to settle down or is their small age gap show her he’s just not ready?

Loved being back in this small town! I love the Moore’s and anyone they are associated with. Bailey was outspoken and fun which I loved, but also buckled down when she needed too. Also, she was a little klutzy which made her normal. Bishop is a good looking baseball player but had a fun and wild side. He was so sweet at times with Bailey and his niece that I wanted to see more! Definitely can’t wait for more of this series!

Book one in the new A Brides of Banneker and if Bailey Landon and Bishop Henson’s story is anything to go by this will certainly be another hit series for author S.E. Rose.
Bailey is the local kindergarten teacher and she has a massive crush on star baseball player Bishop but after meeting him decides he is a player on and off the field and that’s means she needs to move on. Problem is she can’t seem to stop bumping into the hot athletic……….
Bishop has so many layers and once you get to know him you realise he really isn’t the playboy he is portrayed as but will Bailey give him a chance and will she let him help save her family farm. One click to find out what the future holds for this adorable couple.
This couple are perfect together, the banter is witty and I’m sure like me you will be left with a big smile on your face. Scoring the One ticked my boxes, it’s entertaining, it’s fun but more importantly the characters have depth and it was great watching Bishop go all out to prove to Bailey he was wirth taking a chance on. Looking forward to what’s next in A Brides of Banneker Series.

Scoring the One is a fantastic read. This is book one of the new series A Brides of Banneker. You will just love this one so much. If you loved the Moore family than you are just going to love this one. Bailey is one of Di Moore's best friends and a schoolteacher. She is sweet and caring and has had a crush on Bishop forever. Bishop is a pro ball player and friends with Kent Moore. He is a fantastic uncle and has not made a good impression on Bailey. There is fabulous chemistry that go along with many mishaps that will lead you to giggle out loud. Bailey and Bishop are fabulous together. I love how Bishop just goes out of his way to make everything special for Bailey. I loved this one so much and cannot wait to see the next one fall. Bailey and Bishop will own your heart in this. Bishop and Bailey have known each other for while. Friends of friends, she grew up with his baseball teammate Kent. She has had a crush on him for a while, but realizes he is not her type of guy. She wants someone who views her as more than a one night stand. When they have a series of odd interactions, it wakes Bishop up to the fact that he wants to live a different life and be more serious with someone. Their slightly awkward friendship becomes a romantic one. But will his past come back to haunt him?

Bishop, Bailey and their friend group are written as good people, people you would want to know and be friends with. This is the first book in a new series but it builds off a previous series. I have read other books by this author and liked them as well.

I read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Bailey Henson is 33 and a kindergarten teacher. Seeing that her first class of kindergarteners are now driving she's feeling like an old maid and of course her mom reminds her that she's not married and has no kids. Her biggest worry is her mom and how to save her family's farm. So the last thing she really needs is a relationship and one with Bishop.
Bishop Henson is a pro baseball player and a jerk if you ask Bailey Landon. But things kind of change after he helps her out by taking her to the hospital when she injured her arm. Still he's almost 5 yrs younger than her and in his prime and she wants a serious relationship not a young guy still playing around. Could there be more to Bishop than what she thinks? Can he change her mind?

First of all these characters are so stinking cute together. Of course to get them there was a bit of work and some serious slow burn. I honestly felt like this was the depiction of the opposite of a meet cute, it was clearly wrong impressions only happening for Bishop, he just kept showing the wrong side of himself when Bailey was around. Bailey may have been stricken with a crush but those feelings went into hiding the more she was witnessing what she saw a playboy type behavior.
I love a good playboy turns his life around story and it is clear that Bishop was already working on some big changes but from the outside it would be easily misunderstood. The scenes of his caring for his niece are truly priceless.

Scoring the One is the first book in The Brides of Banneker series. It’s a slow burn rom-com and I was here for it. I loved these characters so much! Bailey is a school teacher worried about her mother and saving the family farm. Bishop is a baseball player & former playboy who is changing his ways. He has a wonderful relationship with his neice and is very protective of those he loves. Misunderstandings cause Bailey to think Bishop is a jerk, but after he takes her to the emergency room to get stitches and check on his neice, her feelings for Bishop change. Can these two make it work and spare themselves heartbreak or will outside forces break them apart? I can’t wait for the rest of the series and I sure hope we get to see more of Bishop and Bailey.

This RomCom is based in a small fictional town Banneker where Bailey, a prekindergarten teacher has lived all her life. She is friends with one of the wives who is married to a fellow Baseball player on the same team as Bishop, so they mingle in the same circles.
She has had a huge crush on Bishop for a while but he has only recently decided to take a chance with her, despite him being very attracted to Bailey for a while. He's also been a bit of a player and has started changing his ways since he started dating Bailey.
This story was fun and charming with great characters. The friends and family involved really rounded off the story well. There is humour, sexy love scenes and relatable characters. A lovely read.

The author returns to the adorable town of Banneker (see Perfectly Imperfect series) to start a new series call "Brides of Banneker." It's the perfect set up of small town rom-com. It's funny, sweet, and heart warming.

I'm not the biggest fan of instalove stories, and this story really is insta, but it's also a bit of a slow burn, which I found intriguing. While there isn't really any spice, there is plenty of chemistry and steam, and the witty banter and teasing between Bailey and Bishop is what made me fall in love with this story.

Both Bailey and Bishop are my favorite types of characters. Bailey is a strong female, her life isn't perfect, she has real world problems, and she doesn't whine about it, just does her best. Bishop is a total cinnamon roll and that's all you really need to know (IMO). The way Bailey and Bishops friends react to the highs and lows of their relationship were really well done. I like how their was support and honesty and just how the situations were handled. Though Di and her love of all things romance did edge on the side of annoying, which if you're familiar with the Perfectly Imperfect series, is on brand.

This was a cute and quick read! Bishop is a (former) playboy and baseball player. Bailey is the older, responsible teacher. I loved that Bailey was older than him, it’s not something I see in many books!

They are both so precious with kids. Hattie was the cutest and I loved seeing her pop up throughout the book 💛

Overall this was just an easy, lighthearted read! If you love sweet baseball players, and an amazing group of friends definitely pick this up!

I totally loved reading this first book of a new series.
I read The Kingsmen series and this book is totally different.
More romcom and loads of steamy scenes as well.

Bishop and Bailey have known eachother for quite a few years.
Bailey works as a kindergartenteacher and Bishop as a professional baseball player.
After bringing Bailey to the emergency room, things between Bishop and Bailey start to shift.

This book is great if you love small town, romcom, sport romance and steamy scenes.

I loved going back to Banneker with this one. I love the close friendship/sisterhood that Bailey, Di, Syd, and Fin have. I also loved the hate crush that Bailey had on Bishop. It was fun watching them get throwb together by friends and circumstance. I loved that there was a slight age difference. I also loved that Bishop pulled out all the stops to make Bailey happy and it was so sweet that Hattie was a huge part of that too. Can't wait to read more of this series!

I loved Bishop and Bailey not just because they are perfect for each other, but the absolute hilarity about how things go between them before they get on the same page and I didn't know dates could go as bad as they did when Bailey went on her double date!!! There are loads of laughs, fantastic characters, a few sad times and a fun cute crush to love romance.

between 2.5 and 3

unfortunately it just wasn’t for me (but it might be for someone else!) the miscommunication trope is one of my least favourite and i felt like the story was a bit too quick (kinda felt like instalove for me)

but give it a try! it might be for you
