Favourite Quote: That night, the one before Cara got out of jail, still haunted his dreams. It was frustration that had led him to Jimmy Lovell’s door, his determination to have one last try at prising the truth out of him about Hampstead. But he hadn’t been Jimmy’s only visitor that evening. If Jimmy hadn’t laughed in his face, hadn’t goaded him about his obsession with Cara, he would never have lashed out. One punch was all it had taken. He could still hear that crack as Jimmy’s head hit the side of the sink. Larry winced.
Favourite Quote: The bus eventually arrived, and Cara got on, climbing up the steps to the top deck. She made her way along the aisle to an empty front seat and sat down. As a kid this was always the place she’d loved most, high above the hustle and bustle, like being on top of the world. Now she used it as a vantage point to gaze down on the streets of London, checking out what might have changed while she’d been away, not much, by the looks of it, and whether there was any sign of the BMW.
What an incredible read! This book was an absolute rollercoaster, keeping me on the edge of my seat with chills and suspense until the very end. The shocking twists and turns, along with an unexpected plot twist, left me speechless. The revelation about the protagonist’s father was heart-wrenching, why didn’t he tell her? The novel is brilliantly written, featuring hilarious scenes and an intriguing protagonist. The author clearly has a deep understanding of gangsters, making it feel like a story straight from the life of a Kray gangster’s wife.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers. I would give the plot, characters, and ease of reading 5 out 5.
