I love the Gifted Clans trilogy, so this was an anticipated read for me. Despite of the fact that I had a blast with learning about Korean mythology (which I knew nothing about before reading this series), I have to say I didn't like this book as much as the first two. I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't dislike it, it's just that I was kiiiiinda disappointed.
As always, I loved the representation of Korean mythology in the book. We finally meet all the goddesses, and some new mythological creatures as well. There were some moments that felt a little cringey. My biggest problem with the book was that the stakes never felt high. Even when things start to pick up around the 75% mark, it lacked the excitement I was hoping for in the final installment of the series. The ending was very......... interesting?? Frustrating and bittersweet at the same time. I'm still wrapping my head around it and trying to figure out my feelings about it. It's just my personal opinion, though, and I suppose the ending does suit the story. That said, I adore the characters, and enjoying reading this book!

I wish we'd gotten more from the goddesses, especially the Water Dragon Goddess. We didn't really get to see their personalities. Riley and Emmett's kiss was very cute, but felt kinda abrupt and I wanted to see more moments from them. About the ending...... I'm a little conflicted about a 13 year old becoming the sun itself??!!

Graci Kim has done it again! A funny, reflective, and surprising conclusion to my favorite middle grade trilogy <3 Riley Oh, I'm gonna miss you so much. Can't wait for what Graci conjures next!

WHAT AN ENDING
I finished this in 4 hours straight. I love how effortlessly the plot went. 80% through the book, the 'twist' was predictable but still very enjoyable to read. BUT IT'S JUST SO HARD FOR ME TO ACCEPT THAT FINALITY 😭🥹 the ending omg madam Graci Kim we need to talk. When I see the titles I didn't realize you mean it quite *beeeeeeeppp*
The ending was powerful. I'm not a Korean. I'm just one of the saram in the world, but the ppl in giften clan series is my family and you can't say otherwise.
The narrator did a very fine job of delivering Riley's feelings. Her grief, her frustration. The outburst. AND THE BELIEF 🥹🥹🥹

If there's one word I would use to describe The Last Fallen Realm, it would be bittersweet. This is the last book in the Gifted Clans trilogy, and I was definitely looking forward to the conclusion of Riley's story and seeing how it would wrap up.
The Last Fallen Realm takes place a few months after The Last Fallen Moon. Dahl has joined the Mortalrealm with Riley and her friends, adopted by Riley's family. He's making a place for himself, and he's still the super excited kid we meet in the second novel with his bucket list of things to do in the Mortalrealm. The magic community is preparing themselves in Las Vegas while waiting for the remaining goddesses to make their move, but overall, it's been quiet.
Much like the predecessors in the trilogy, Riley's still trying to find herself and where she belongs. Everyone expects her and her soul-twin Dahl to lead them into the Age of the Final Eclipse the haetae mentions, but Riley feels nothing like the leader she feels she's supposed to be. When compared to Dahl and Hattie, she feels inadequate. Dahl's enthusiasm is infectious and carries to everyone else and Hattie seems much braver and stronger than Riley will ever be.
A large part of the narration is her trying to find her confidence and believing in herself as Riley and her friends find themselves in the Godrealm to stop the goddesses from putting their plan into motion. The pacing definitely feels slower compared to previous books because of this, but it was still highly entertaining to read. I loved seeing how Kim continues to incorporate parts of the modern world with Korean mythology, though I can also see that it might feel a little offputting for some. Personally, I felt it fit with the chaotic nature of the book as the three realms are merging together and time is quickly ticking.
Despite the slower pacing, it was worth it to see how Riley's story ends. Riley develops as a character the most in this one, but I enjoyed seeing her grow throughout the series from when we first meet her in The Last Fallen Star . Her relationship with her friends and family, and especially her sister, continues to play a big part. They're so supportive of Riley and showering her with all the love she deserves; I just love them.
It's been an absolute delight reading the Gifted Clans trilogy, and I'm really glad I crossed paths with this series. I'm honestly sad Riley's story is ending with The Last Fallen Realm, but I'm excited to see what Graci Kim writes next!

i've been waiting for the conclusion of the gifted clans trilogy but now that it's over, i'm sad. riley's journey is full of ups and downs, trusts and betrayals, and love for the people around her and the community she interacts with. when the goddesses are adamant in bringing down her world as she knows, riley knew she had to do something about it. even though she doesn't feel like a hero nor a leader, riley knew she had to do whatever she can to make sure the world doesn't crumble under the power of the goddesses.
as always, i finished this book incredibly quickly. i loved how the friends worked together but also giving individual characters the space to do things that they're good at. using their personal skills to resolve an issue and the rest trusting them to do the right thing. i also loved that family doesn't need to be blood-related, which was a topic that lasted from the first book. though riley isn't blood-related to her sister's family, they still treated her as a family member and they even took in riley's soul sibling into the family as well.
overall, a great book! i can't wait to see what graci kim is up to next now that her first trilogy has concluded.

Oh man, Graci Kim is going places. I believe I've rated this trilogy a 14/15. This entire novel was spectacular: as in the 2nd book Riley reverts back to her uncertain self but her growth is heartwarming and impressive as the pages turn. Also, it's imperative to realize that this series is a middle-grade/young adult one, and, hence I understand the need to promote relatable, loving characters who find their place in the world as heroes.
I would like to point out that the book is slightly long, with extra wild goose chases (as with the 2nd one) but I'll be damned if I give this finale anything less than 5/5.

What a ride, what an adventure. The Gifted Clans trilogy ends with The Last Fallen Realm, and I had the best time saving the world and learning about Korean mythology with Riley and the gang. I appreciated the last few chapters' emphasis that you don't need to be powerful, intimidating, or have immense magic to be a hero and change the world. It's all inside of us, and we have to gather up the courage to acknowledge and wield that power.
It saddens me, though, to rate the third book with just four stars. I'm not sure who was in charge of proofreading the manuscript, but I pulled out my pencil and marked about five or more typos in the book.
But don't let that deter you from picking up this trilogy. Share it with all the young readers you know. I'm sure they're going to enjoy discovering this world and rallying with Riley Oh as she takes on her biggest challenge yet.

This booked is like salted caramel cookies. Full of sweetness and a bit different from the standard cookies.
The payoff at the end was wonderful and full of sweetness and love. Like sea salt riley finds a way to enhance the kindness and love found in all creatures from the three realms.
The strength of this book is the creativity. The way korean myths and mythical creatures are blended into modern life. Cheolima's, inmeyeonjo, bulgae running doggie obstacle courses, imugivlearning to dance. Haetae being his normal cryptic self. Many fun events. There are er ven moon rabbits! I wish there were more puns. What helped me forget about the great puns from the second book was the setting. Vegas!! Many fun scenes and wacky events that could only happen in vegas.
If you love korean mythology, hijinks, loveable characters, competitive mini golf, food references(avo shakes), finding your destiny, folktale retellings this book is for you

The third and final installment of the Gifted Clans Trilogy, and I loved everything about it just as much as I loved the previous two books and more. This trilogy is one I’m going to revisit over and over again and recommend to everyone. It was just so fun, witty, exciting, and heartfelt, with all of the goodness on what makes anything with mythology so addicting to read.
If you didn’t know yet, this trilogy is inspired by korean mythology that starts off with the main character, Riley Oh, born as a Saram (non-magical born kid), into a family with the power to heal others. She studied and knows all the spells, but what use is knowing any of it when she doesn’t even have what it takes to cast them. When her and her sister Hattie, found a spell that could give her the power to heal just like her sister (just for a moment) but enough to prove her worth in the gifted community, everything goes wrong and it’s up to Riley to fix everything. (If you wanna read what happens to Riley after, then you HAVE to keep reading the rest of the trilogy).
Everything from the first book to the second book to the third book, just all flowed so well, and all of the characters in this trilogy are so lovable, I didn’t want it to end. 😭 But like all great things, everything must come to an end, and the third book was even more amazing than the previous two (if that was even possible. This is probably my new favorite middle grade series I’ve read to date because it already won my heart just from the first book. 💙 (And I’ve read a LOT of middle grade books growing up, but this is seriously the winner). I loved this book for all these reasons
First of all I loved Emmett and Riley’s kiss and how Emmett wants to name his bakery boy meets star or something like that, is amazing! I’ve always shipped them from the start and I love that they are a couple now there couple name is Emily yes that’s it. And when they confessed to each other that was one of my fav parts.💕
Second, I can’t believe Dahl dies! 😭😭 he was one of my fav characters (other than Emmett) and when he became the moon and he was talking to Riley I actually cried and I never cry during books.
I also love how Hattie’s alive again! Yay! 😁 and she has magical powers!? So she can, first off change the weather and second talk to her yong friends!? Love it!
And I love how every character gets a chance to shine and has a special role to play. Also you get to meet characters in previous books too.
Finally the plot twist! Love it! Who knew that the major was evil!? Ok that was the one of the best plot twists I’ve ever read!
Riley is the new Sun! ☀️ yay! She will do (and is doing) a great job and so will Dahl being the moon.🌙

I love the RRP concept to put new authors and world mythologies that get less exposure out into the marketplace where they can get the love they deserve. Grace Kim is a perfect example of this, and The Last Fallen Star reads as fast and enjoyably as any Riordan book I’ve read. The characters are really fun, and I really liked getting to see inside the daily life and likes of Korean-American teens in LA. The world-building is really creative, and the plot has lots of satisfying twists and turns. And the messages of building family and loving bonds worth fighting for is a great one for readers of all ages. I can’t wait for more in the series!

This was one of my anticipated reads of the year, and it was a disappointment. I do like that the stories were all given their endings, but the entire ordeal felt rushed, especially towards the last parts of the book. The pacing was off - it was slow at the start, and when things start to get interesting you realize you’re more than halfway through the story. Still, as a whole I enjoyed the series. It was entertaining and the world building was really good.

WE NEED A SEQUEL OR A PREQUEL TO THIS SERIES IT IS AMAZING!! The ending of the book was so sad, but it shared an amazing lesson to all the readers. It made me sad to find the Dahl died, until the plot twist in which he didn't technically die, just his human self not his soul self! Of course we can’t forget Emmett and Riley (ooOoOooOo), they are so cute together, so meant to be!!

And just like that the Gifted Clans novels come to an end and quite the ride it's been.
The Last Fallen Realm picks up several months after the end of The Last Fallen Moon. The goddesses have abandoned their witches, but with the help of the Horangi the Gifted world is...surviving. Witches all around the world are learning to harness their innate elemental magic in preparation for what's to come with the goddesses. And then all of Las Vegas is plunged into darkness and the Godrealm is blending in with the mortal realm and Riley and friends realize that the final battle is upon them. They need to finish off the goddesses now or everything they care about is just...gone.
I will say, I was initially skeptical about this series and how much I'd be interested in it given that Riley possesses no magic, but as the series has gone on and Riley has gained and lost and learned more about her true identity...it's become clear that Riley's lack of magic is necessary. She can't rely on magic to get her out of trouble, she needs to be creative, she needs to think outside the box. That's what makes her special. However, her lack of magic also makes for a great reason to keep her wide friend group around. Everyone serves their own purpose, everyone matters.
The ending admittedly took me by surprise that I have no desire to spoil but will admit leaves me...deeply curious. It's a complete ending, it's a satisfying ending, but also leaves the door open for something more in the future. It wasn't anything I would've expected happening and it's been quite some time since I've seen something similar happen. But it allows Riley to stay true to her character, and I think that's what matters the most.
All in all, excellent series with a wonderful blend of magic and fantasy and Korean mythology and culture. Each book really stood on its own and ends with a deeply satisfying and hopeful ending...albeit somewhat bittersweet at the same time.

This book is the third and final installment in the Gifted Clans series. A modern mix of Korean mythology, magic, humor and spunk, if you love the _Amari_ series by BB Alston or any of the other Rick Riordan presents imprint, this series will find a home in your heart and stay there long after you've finished. If you have not read the first two books STOP and read them (so worth it)!!
The Last Fallen Realm picks up a few months after The Last Fallen Moon left off. The world was not neatly put back into place, but the gifted folks are figuring it out. Graci Kim once again gives us a fresh, hilarious and creative world inhabited by her main characters and a few new faces. Set in Las Vegas (mixed with a few other realms) Kim makes a really fun choice as some of the crazy, out of place things that happen when the realms collide are totally normal in a place where people expect the unexpected. Main character, Riley Oh, continues to struggle with her place in the world, imposter syndrome and some new feelings???? as she matures. The weight of the worlds is on her shoulders, but with her friends by her side and her own resourcefulness, she makes it work. My daughters and I love this series because Riley is not perfect, but she is able to use her gifts (which happen to NOT be so supernatural most of the time) to defeat obstacles and come through for the people she loves. The characters make mistakes and figure things out but their belief in each other and eventually themselves are their greatest strengths. I love that Graci Kim did not necessarily give us the ending we all wanted, but the ending we NEEDED...one that was right and true to the characters and the story and one that leaves readers settled with the notion that magic is all around us, but most especially within us. We will deeply miss reading about these characters, but they are all so well developed that we can imagine their continued existence. We're so grateful for our time with them, and with this series. They are truly a gift.

As with the first book, I laughed and I cried and I gasped out loud. I found myself cheering for Riley, hurting with her, feeling proud when she finally found her courage and understanding when she was too afraid to think about what needed to be done. I’m extremely grateful that this is the series I chose to pull myself out of my decades-long reading slump. There’s something about the way Graci Kim writes that I can’t quite describe, because I don’t know the proper word to use. Riley’s voice is extremely conversational — she could be in the room with you, telling you the stories of what happened to her. But her voice is also, at times, extremely wise beyond her years. Which is fitting, really, considering her origin story and history. And sometimes? Sometimes Riley sounds like my own inner voice. I’m not thirteen, and I’m most definitely not Korean. But sometimes Riley feels like some odd manifestation of my younger self - anxiety and imposter syndrome creeping into the simplest moments of life, and overrunning the most complex ones. I think Riley Oh is a character almost every reader can relate to, regardless of age or ethnicity or even gender.
A beautiful series. Thank you, Graci Kim. I can’t wait to read more in the future!

I'm not crying from that ending, YOU ARE!
Okay, okay, I confess. I did tear up during the last few chapters on multiple occasions. The entire series from start to finish was superb and is a great story of growth, perseverance, and sacrifice. As much as I would love to see more books in this series, I think the way everything was buttoned up and finished was perfect. Adding more to the story I think would water down it's overall message.
Perhaps this author can do something similar to how Uncle Rick wrote the various spin-off series from "Percy Jackson" that all tie in together and do other stories with different characters within this universe? I'd love to see a continuation with Hattie, Emmett, and/or Taeyo, heck, maybe even a completely different set of characters that eventually meet some of the main characters later on similar to how "Heroes of Olympus" was a completely different set of characters that end up teaming with the PJO kids.
All in all, as previously stated, this was a great series to read regardless of your age as it's message is universal:
“The only thing stronger than fear is courage. The only thing greater than ignorance is compassion. And the only thing more powerful than hate is love.”
And boy oh boy could be use more courage, compassion, and love during these trying times.

I'm a little sad that the Gifted Clans trilogy is over now, I hope Graci Kim revisits these characters in spin-off stories because I'm not ready to say goodbye. Overall this is a satisfying ending and was a fun read. I loved how Kim expanded this world and the different magical creatures and characters readers get to meet along the way.
THE LAST FALLEN REALM isn't my favorite book out of the trilogy, but I appreciate how Kim ties elements from the other books in the series into this one (along with the short story that's featured in THE CURSED CARNIVAL AND OTHER CALAMATIES anthology so make sure you read that first).
I appreciate Riley Oh's story arc and that Kim managed to find a good balance of letting these characters act their age while also tackling BIG problems that could easily have had the characters reading older than they are. This is a fun middle grader-early YA series that I think a lot of tweens and teens will enjoy reading.
Also - I'm still dying to try Emmett's salted caramel cookies. Just sayin'.

I should maybe have remembered my own recommendation to listen to the third one like I did for the first, but instead I ended up reading it through on my phone all in one day and certainly enjoyed it. I probably would have liked it even more if I had read it closer in time to the first two and remembered more of the details, but even without that, this final installment in the trilogy was quite good. All the kid characters are back, the absence of the adults gets explained well, and the crazy magical things that happen in the human world are considered just part of the experience since the primary setting is Vegas. Many of the goddesses from the previous books come back, and some new ones make an appearance. The overlaps between the three realms are also intriguing, and there are some great connections made in the process. Rylie struggles with some pretty big anxiety, but gets support and help from her family and friends that helps her process and address it in an accurate but very kid friendly way. I also appreciated the inclusion again of the author's note at the end regarding the overall story development and the myth she learned late into the writing that actually paralleled her plot.

A good way of ending the story as we finally have the big battle with the four goddesses as they put their final plan into action. And it does have an epic set up for everything as the sun disappears, the dimensions are merging, and everything starts breaking down. Honestly reading this reminded me of some of the comic events from DC like Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis as they also have similar set ups with reality breaking down resulting in everything kind of mixing with each other. I do wish that element was a bit more focused as it is mostly used as an excuse to get the characters to each key location as quickly as possible. It would have been interesting having normal humans suddenly seeing mythical creatures and seeing Riley having to deal with that. Also the final battle is a bit of a let down as they set up for a this big battle as they have an army of witches and monsters on both sides but there really is not a war but the ending is interesting and I do really like how the story resolves as it is a nice bittersweet ending that does have the heroes achieve their goes with some consequences.

i had been meaning to pick this book up after finishing b2 but hadn’t had the time to finally check it out at my lib until now.
throughout all three books, i really enjoyed going along riley’s journey, learning more about herself, gaining confidence in her abilities and sticking to her beliefs.
also watching the sisterly bond she has with Hattie, the bond she makes with Dahl and again, like, the whole time watching her believe she CAN do something instead of just listening to the voice in head saying she can’t.
she defeats her imposter syndrome. so good for her.
reading the mini golf tournament/series of tests Riley had to do, it was the right sign to prove to herself what her sister had been saying all along, she COULD lead, she just needed to lead in her own way.
the mayor being the accomplice bad guy took me by surprise. the moment with her, dahl and the haetae was really sweet.
i really did enjoy reading this series, learning about korean mythology, the writing was easy to follow for me and just,,,,kudos to graci, this was a fun read for me.

We are off to finish the end of this journey with Riley, who has been going through a lot, really. After learning why she *really* didn't fit in with her adopted family now she has to do this thing where she has to stop something called the Age of the Final Eclipse? And help witches get their powers back?
As a MG trilogy you can imagine that everything does pretty much end well and it's about how we get there that is more important. Always and important lesson, Riley learns to believe in herself and in what she can do. And of course it is good she has the support of her family and friends to help her through it.
Overall I thought this was a weak ending to a eh trilogy. Appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Korean mythology but overall thought it was a skippable series. Maybe I am out of gas with the Rick Riordan Presents series, maybe it just wasn't the right time, etc. For someone who is into mythology or wants to know a little more about Korean mythology, etc. this might be a good set to pick up.

This was a charming finish to this trilogy. I enjoyed getting to see the world through Riley's eyes, Kim writes teenagers so realistically. There were some parts that were cringey, frustrating or awkward, but that's exactly how teenagers are so I expected nothing less than.
My only real qualm was the ending. I understand the necessity of it. And looking at the big picture, it's a good and solid ending. My personal preference is I just wish it looked different, more of a happy ending for my own little heart 😅 but sometimes endings aren't perfectly wrapped packages with a neat little bow. I understand that but my heart is a little sad lol.
I will say, although I loved the progression of Emmett and Riley and their relationship, it felt a little rushed in this book. But the way Kim goes about describing Riley's changing feelings for him was so wholesome and understandable for teenagers and kids to read.
All in all, this is a solid trilogy and I enjoyed it 👍🏾

Well, dang.
That was my immediate reaction after finishing this book. The end certainly had the complexity, twists, and epicness befitting the end of a trilogy.
This book finishes the depiction of a three-realm world full of colorful characters, which, though not always realistic, are often silly and lovable. Riley's voice is distinctive and chock-full of slang, pop culture references, and asides. The present-tense narrative is a little chaotic for me, but some readers will probably find it funny and fresh.
I did not like this book as much as the last one (there were some questionable plot moments if not any full-on plot holes), but I did appreciate the full gang being back. The true heart of this story is the ability for everyone to work together and contribute to making (or saving!) a better world.
Overall, I will give it 4 stars for my taste, though that could round to 4.5 for the ending that completely surprised me. Happy reading!

I have gotten in the habit of listening to audiobooks while I’m working. This has led to me, today, scrolling through my excel spreadsheet and sobbing while characters say words like “shirt balls” and “bada bing bada boom”.
Children’s books are so good at spanning the entire spectrum of the human emotion. I think they deserve more credit as a category overall. This story is about found family, what family means, impostor syndrome, self worth, the tendency to push away the people you love so you don’t disappoint them, and the power of love. Familial love, friend love, romantic love.
I wholeheartedly recommend this series. Good lessons, solid reminders, and real problems. I mean relatable problems- I am not currently dealing with being a piece of the last fallen star. problems like identity questions, confidence, and the question of deserving love.

Dawno nie czytałam książki, która oferowałaby czytelnikom i czytelniczkom tak barwny i oryginalny świat, a jednocześnie była tak wartościowa w warstwie emocjonalnej. In this epic conclusion, Riley will have to fulfill her destiny to save the world. But it won’t be easy. Riley and her friends and family have been preparing for months for the inevitable war between the clans and the goddesses. And the time has finally come. The walls between the realms have been ripped and they are slowly merging together leaving destruction in its wake. Riley and her friends will have to band together to fight each new challenge that comes their way and unleash her true potential alongside her soul brother, Dahl. But it will take everything they both have. And the end result will be nothing like she ever imagined. A really great conclusion to this series! This book was once again a lot of fun and funny and filled with adventure. It’s been a fun journey with Riley and I’m sad to see it end!
