Didn’t know there would be this much information on sheep! Wow, am I impressed?!

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
After chickens and pigs we have a new animal, this time sheep! I was just so hyped about it because I knew I would love this book! Plus, hello, sheep are cute! I wanted to learn more about them!
In this book we learn all about sheep! With a fun introduction featuring a fun fact that if you wanted to count all the sheep you would have to count to 1.2 billion, dang, I hope people fall asleep faster than that, haha. We get a fun passport on sheep and all the differences between them. I was indeed already wondering why not all sheep have tails, but apparently that is a thing that differs between sheep kinds. And then we learn about various distant relatives and how the first ancestors of sheep took their first steps to how they started to live with humans and get domesticated. And I learned that sheep can apparently also snort, which I kind of want to hear now. XD I could tell you all what is in this book, but I will just keep it short because otherwise this will just be a summary and not a review, there is a lot more in this 80 page book and I just soaked it all up. Quite a few facts I knew, but this book dives deep into sheep and shows us not just the basics but all the things as most children’s books do! And also tells us about things surrounding the sheep, like shepherds or enemies (and I didn’t know that llamas were used to fend of predators, haha, but it also doesn’t surprise me), but also wool and cheese. Mm, now I am hungry for some cheese.
I also learned a new word Transhumance. I am not sure if what the sheep shepherds here do is the same, after all they don’t go up and down (not much going up or down here), but they do graze at various places in various seasons. They take care of the grass near waters, parks, and some other places in my town. Sometimes you will see a whole herd of them near the grasses just on the border of the town, sometimes you walk in the park and there they are in their own fenced off big area. I just adore it and look forward to it, even trying to make a quest out of it. Will I find the sheep this time on my walk? Or bicycle ride?
Just like with the two other books I really really enjoyed the art, it was just so pretty!
I cannot wait for the next book. Cows? Horses? Goats? Rabbits? Oh please, please, let there be more books like this one! I just cannot get enough!
I would highly recommend this wonderfully illustrated and full to the brim of facts book to all, sheep-lovers and people who want to know more about animals will love this book (and also the others in the series).

Colorful, educational, and fun!
We recently were gifted some beautiful crochet sheep and they are three different colors. As I read this book to both of my children, they were playing with the sheep and pointing at the ones that looked like the ones in the book.
We absolutely loved the illustrations! It was so fun and bright, yet incredibly educational.
My seven year old was super shocked by some of the facts and was thrilled to learn more about sheep!
This book is so enjoyable, and would be great as a part of a homeschool lesson as well!
I will for sure be looking at more books by this author! It is a fun and easy way to have children really learn more about different animals!

An adorable and informational book all about sheep! I really enjoyed this book! The artwork was whimsical and fun, and yet each page held facts and information about sheep. The kinds of sheep, anatomy, about wool, the basic care of sheep. A great resource for teaching children about sheep before diving in.

Although the book claims to be an ultimate encyclopedia I would have to say that I wouldn't call it that just given the fact that it only covers a handful of breeds and lore when there is just so much more to get in. As for maybe being a encyclopedia of the species geared towards children I will definitely give it credit for that since of how rounded the actual book itself is.
Sheepology is split into five sections that aren't fully separated from one another but instead allow the book to flow easily from one section to another as the reader flips from one page to another. As such readers will be first introduced to sheep in general whether the animals are the domestic sheep that many are quite familiar to and also the wild sheep members as well as the history of human domesticating them as well as their contributions to those same early ancestors.
The book then goes into exploring the anatomy of the sheep both on the inside and the outside plus gender names as well as communication noises. This then flows into the various usages that sheep are known for contributing whether it is for their milk from which sheep cheese is made and all the various uses for wool or other fabrics made from wool.
Then the book starts to wind down with the contribution of sheep into the human culture as well as how to start a small sheep farm if you should be interested, which of course winds the book up with its last section of providing a few known breeds. Although not conclusive readers will be given basic information such as wool color, size of the sheep including a breakdown of the size differences between ram and ewe plus notable features just for a start.
Although this may be one creature that you were taught should be naturally overlooked I think that would be doing a great disservice to this animal. This book should be used for children in such programs as 4-H, for those who are interested in learning more about history, agriculture and just animal-lovers in general for this book won't disappoint.

I thought the illustrations were well done, and the art style felt a bit like some of the classic picturebooks I remember fondly from my own childhood. I thought the information was well chosen, and the text was accessible and I learned more about sheep in this relatively short book than I thought I would. While there is a bit on anatomy and animal husbandry, the information and images are completely age appropriate for the target audience of children 6-10 years old. This book would be great for an animal obsessed young reader, a child doing a report, or anyone interested in learning more about sheep.

It was very interesting to learn more than just the regular basics about sheep. The general habits of sheep, transhumance of sheep; their caretakers: shepherds, dogs and donkeys; what can be "harvested" from sheep: eg. wool, milk and its by-products such as cheese; the plethora of breeds and their origins and so much more, were all encapsulated in this one volume.
Although the book states this non-fiction, educational work is targeted at children ages 6-10, the explanations are rather detailed so I feel the older side of that scale is more likely the readership to benefit. Readers who believe in a young earth may take exception to some of the datings given, is one caution I have with the book.
All in all, together with the great illustrations and labelings, this chidlren's book could be well worth the investment, especially as, perhaps, a home education resource for science class - in my opinion, at least. This is NOT, a ba-a-a-d book.

Topically portrayed in a bright painted vignette style, the reader can open to any page and learn something new and interesting about sheep. It's comprehensive, yet totally captivating for those with short attention spans, as you can take in as much or as little as you like at a sitting. From breeds of sheep, to their anatomy, their care, differences in shepherds around the globe, the variety of cheeses from sheep milk, their unique nature, plus much more, this was not only educational, but delightful to read. It will definitely be on my keeper shelf and reread many times as a read along for the children in my life, as a reference in my writing, and for sheer pleasure, as an adult who knits and crochets and loves beautifully illustrated books.

For being only 80-pages long, this book was an informative surprise! Every page was jammed packed with cute illustrations and facts about everything sheep! Not just about the sheep themselves, but also about flock migrations, shepherds, making cheese, making wool, and more! I felt like a sheep expert after reading this book!

This nonfiction text is the encyclopedia of everything you never knew you needed to know about sheep! There is tons of great information in here, and the illustrations are very interesting. The book is a great introduction to non-fiction text features such as labels and textboxes. I do think the font is a bit small and hard to read (I am reading a digital copy so this may be different in hard copy) but it is a clean font so, relatively accessible. I think this would be a great gift for a sheep fan, or a good reference text to use for a report on sheep. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

This is a lovely book!
Really nice illustrations, fun and informative text, just the right amount of information for a 6-10 yr old (ish!) aged kid, or a grown-up (me) who loves this level of info
I'd say the title suggests it holds more in-depth knowledge, which is a bit of a shame, but if you bear in mind the age range you won't be disappointed by this
I'd definitely recommend this for a curious mind, though you might find you get sheep facts read back to you for some time after...

Always love the books in the series, now talking about sheep. As usual, there are so many information about sheep that we never know. This book also provides stories behind weaving, wool and other sheep products, like cheese. Sheep is also an intelligent animal, contrary to what we believe. There are studies about how smart sheep can be, and it is interesting to read about stuffs we have are made from sheep contributions.

Although this book is full of all kinds of interesting facts about sheep and the domestication of sheep and the things that she produce and how sheep and humans have become entwined it is kind of a dry read and it seems like kids would not really be able to concentrate on this book for long unless they were really really into sheep.

This book is great if you're a vegetarian... not a single mention of sheep being raised for meat. After reading this book, children would be under the impression that sheep are used only to produce milk, cheese, and wool. Would not recommend if you're trying to teach children about farming or where their food comes from. I liked the other books in this series, but this one was disappointing.

This book is full of interesting sheep information. From mating rituals (non descriptive) to what wool looks like under a microscope. The legends are a fun as finding finding out where sheep related come from. I am intrigued by chickenology now.

Wow! I'm amazed by all the facts in this book and I grew up with Grandparents that raised sheep, I didn't know a lot of the facts in this book. It was so informational and the illustrations were beautiful and a so detailed. I loved learning so much about Sheep and what Sheep offer to the world.

This is so cute and informative! As a spinner and knitter, I'm already familiar with a lot of wool and sheep related information, but I still found this adorable children's non-fiction to be full of new information and the accompanying illustrations are just too cute.

I was completely unprepared to be so intrigued by sheep. This book is expansive, informative, visually satisfying -- a winner of an informational book.

Cute sheep book, packed with interesting information. I found it in the kids section but I still learned a lot from it as an adult.
