Eagle Point Search & Rescue #5

Searching for Finley

Rate this book
They've finally found someone who accepts them as they are, but it could all go up in flames in an instant.

Finley Norris is a woman with curves to spare, a fact she made peace with long ago…but she can’t say the same for everyone else. Ridiculed for her size her whole life, it’s easy for her to assume her huge crush on a certain sexy mechanic will remain unrequited. But her friends have other plans, and when one of them pushes the pair together, no one is more surprised than Finley when attraction blooms—fast.

Brock Mabrey’s as blue collar as they come, and he’s got the grease-stained fingers to prove it. He’s been judged for his rough edges for years…especially by women. That doesn’t stop him from crushing on a certain delectable baker, and when the opportunity to know Finley better presents itself, he doesn’t waste a second. She and Brock go from zero to a hundred in the blink of an eye, their chemistry off the charts. There’s nothing casual about the lust, love, and protection Finley inspires.

And she’ll need plenty of the latter, because Finley’s seen something she shouldn’t. Someone is desperate to discover what she knows…and determined to silence her permanently.

** Searching for Finley is the fifth book in the Eagle Point Search & Rescue Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

🎧 Audiobook Review: Searching for Finley (Eagle Point Search and Rescue, #5)

Author: Susan Stoker
Genre: Military romance / romantic suspense
Narrators: Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke

Finley Norris is the shy, small‑town baker behind Fallport, Virginia’s only bakery—a woman who genuinely enjoys her curves but still carries the scars of past teasing. Her long‑standing crush, Brock Mabrey, feels completely out of reach: he’s tall, muscled, confident, and the kind of man she assumes could have any woman he wants. Every time they cross paths, Finley turns into a tongue‑tied mess, convinced he’d never look twice at someone like her.

Everything shifts when Finley injures her wrist and can’t manage the morning baking rush. She calls her friend Caryn for help, expecting a temporary assistant—what she gets instead is Brock at her doorstep fifteen minutes later. What follows is a surprisingly sweet morning of shared baking, easy conversation, and the kind of chemistry Finley never imagined was mutual. Brock not only asks her out but openly admits he’s always been drawn to curvy women and finds her especially adorable.

While the setup is charming, the story’s handling of Finley’s body image was the one element that didn’t work for me. Although Finley claims to be comfortable with her size, her inner monologue repeatedly circles back to her weight—how she’s been teased, how she once lost weight but felt miserable, how she worries Brock will judge her body, and how she chooses clothes specifically to hide her stomach. The constant focus on her size made it clear she struggles with low self‑esteem, which contradicts the idea that she’s “fine” with her body.

On top of that, other characters—including the villains—frequently refer to her as “fat,” and the narrative keeps returning to the topic. For me, this became distracting. I tend to prefer heroines whose weight simply isn’t a plot point, because when it’s treated as a non‑issue, it feels like a non‑issue.

What did shine was Brock. He’s the quintessential protective, gentle giant—patient with Finley’s shyness, deeply attracted to her exactly as she is, and willing to move at her pace. His steady affection and quiet devotion were some of the strongest parts of the story.

The audiobook narration elevated the experience. Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood—two of my favorites—were perfectly cast. Jason’s deep, gravelly voice fit Brock’s rugged, grounded presence beautifully, while Savannah’s soft, expressive delivery brought Finley’s vulnerability and sweetness to life. Both narrators added warmth and emotional depth that made the story more engaging.

Overall, this audiobook delivers a sweet, protective‑hero romance with excellent narration, but the heavy emphasis on the heroine’s weight overshadowed the love story for me. Readers who enjoy curvy‑girl narratives may appreciate the representation, but if you prefer romances where body size isn’t repeatedly highlighted, this one may feel more distracting than empowering. Brock and the narrators were definite highlights, but the constant focus on Finley’s insecurities kept the story from fully landing for me.

Brock & Finley

I could not put it down!!!! I love the guys of Eagle Point Search & Rescue (and their women). Finley was already part of the group, but seeing her grow and really come into her own with Brock just loving everything about her was incredible. I’m so happy that there is still more to come. My curiosity is working overtime on Chloe and the mystery girl in the woods!!! So good!

Wow, I thought I had things figured out, turns out that story twisted in a way I never expected! How the authours brain thinks up these situations, believable and scary, and things she puts her characters through, diabolical I tell you. Finley and Brock have been dancing around each other for a while now, so when they finally get together, they move at warp speed. They have a string of bad luck on dates, but that doesn’t deter them. It seems like things should be smooth sailing, but nuh-uh, no way, and then when it seems like things have settled, more happens. I thought I’d figured out the bad guy pretty early, but I was waaayyyy off, which made it even more shocking. Loved the story, loved the narration, can’t wait for more from the Eagle Point Search and Rescue crew <3

What can I say about it? Amazing. Just like all of her books. A bakery trope, a curvy heroine who sees something she shouldn't. what else can you ask for except the next 2 books to be released early. it is a series, but can be read alone. Take the jump, you may find Bigfoot!

'Intense, sexy, demanding, insatiable and....

....adorable?

Brock is all these things! And whilst he would cringe at being described as adorable, the way he slowly courts Finley is as adorable as it gets. He has allowed her time to get used to him as part of their friendship group, waits for the slightest spark from her before acting on his feelings and tries desperately to hold back his growly Alpha, claim her now urges until she is sure, really sure it is him she wants...forever.
I love all of the guys in this Eagle Point S & R Team, they were all running, hiding from their pasts, their memories, they are all a little dinted and damaged. But they are all protectors, good men who will give their lives for innocents and who protect those they love with every breath they take.
An awesome series and I look forward to Talon's book before we finally get the finale of Raid and Khloe....a book that has been brewing throughout the series I cannot wait for the fireworks when they finally get together.

Another wonderful story added to this series! this has a lot of fun moments as well as a few serious ones. Its a perfect blend. I was excited for this story as we have seen these two characters in past books. Finley is like a lot of women..she feels heavy and doesn’t have good self esteem. So many people can relate to her situation. Brock is a big guy who works a blue collar job. While he enjoys her curves he struggles himself with feeling inadequate about the remnants from his job. I enjoyed their “dating” times plus their chemistry is explosive! I enjoy seeing the townsfolk and the addition of the mystery woman. I really am looking forward to the next installment.

Jason Clark and Savannah Peachwood do an excellent job narrating. Both have been around a while and are accomplished with their vocals. They always bring everything they have and make listening enjoyable.

Weight Obsessed

I really liked the book but only gave it 3stars because the story was obsessed with the woman's weight. She's overweight but he loves her yes its great to have a story where the female lead isn't a supermodel but it's brought up constantly and I mean constantly there's a few times where other people rudely refer to her as too fat. After a while i, an overweight woman myself, began to find it offensive this story concentrated so much on her weight. If you can ignore all the "fat" references its a good book.

This book by Susan Stoker just did not work for me. While i loved the plus size FMC representation, it felt that the hero was more obsessed with her size rather than her personality. Idk, there was just too much focus on her body rather than the chemistry and the plot.

How cute were Finley and Brock??? I loved that when he had the chance, Brock took his shot with Finley. Sure it was helping her when she was hurt, but any foot in the door is still a foot in the door. Finley wasn't sure at the start, didn't have a good self image and why Brock would want her, but Brock was quickly able to get her to see what he saw.

Their dates had me laughing, sure they were disastrous, but not in things between them, but things that happened to them. It's a good thing that both of them had a great sense of humor and could laugh things off and declare no more dates, just hanging out.

The drama at the end was so over the top, from the bad guy blaming everything on Finley, when it was squarely their own actions that brought about their downfall. I found myself holding my breath at times for what Finley went through, just the thought of what fire could have done to her was so scary! So glad that she found a way out and that Brock and the guys showed up to save her.

I liked Khloe being all demanding at the end, it was what Finley needed to shock her, to get her back to living, something she needed to do because she had so much going for her.

These books are essentially my guilty pleasure. Every time I finish one I have to read the next one because I have a compulsive case of the curious because they tease the next.

With that said this one is one of my least favourites of the series. Every single one of these involve a soap box but this was a bit much. I don’t know if it’s cause I’m a bigger confident woman myself but it’s like my god we get it she’s big… it’s 2023 while I know we aren’t past this 100% but a bigger woman with a fit man isn’t that novel. It’s performative.

The focus on her weight was over the top and the villain was ridiculous.

So I’m giving it 3 stars for being decent but not something I would read again.

A big part of this book that both Finley and Brock have previously been rejected by partners due to looks issues that they’re now insecure about. For Finley it is her weight, which causes her to doubt that someone like Brock would ever be interested in her. For Brock it is his grease-stained hands from working as a mechanic. On the one hand, their acceptance of each other as they are was inspiring. On the other hand, the medical person in me couldn’t help but think how loving it really is to encourage an obese person to keep eating sweets often. That rubbed me the wrong way. Despite this, the book had good chemistry and the suspense got messy, so it was a good read. I read the ebook. 3.5/5.

Great story. Finley is an overweight woman who owns a bakery Brock is a mechanic who is also involved in the search and rescue team . Their love grows as Brock brings Finley out of her shell. Fin sees something early one morning that causes persons to try and harm her but she has no idea why . I suck at writing reviews but highly recommend this book

I particularly identified with the heroine in this book. Loving yourself and letting someone else love you is an act of both vulnerability and strength. I love how Susan Stoker makes her characters so relatable.

Wow, I’m so confused about some of these reviews. I absolutely love Finley and Brock. And if you are an overweight woman and haven’t experienced some of these insults and treatment, I’m happy for you. But let me tell you, I’ve had some crazy stuff happen and I felt for Finley throughout this story. And Brock reminded me of my dad. A mechanic who couldn’t always have perfect hands, but was one of the best men I’ve ever had in my life. He treated my mom like a queen and me as well. As far as the villain, I found it very believable. Loved this story and the HEA.

another good story

Really like these, but- once again, the romance between characters is to enhance the story. Too many times these authors lose sight of this. I am just getting tired of having to skim to get back to the actual story. Hopefully the next book will be just a bit different.

There was a lot in this book I liked, the suspense, the friend's group, the relationship between Brock and Fin but I didn't like how Finley was portrayed. I really can't wait to read the next book

I was disappointed, In previous posts, I stated I was invested and needed to see this series through. I don't think I will continue. I am good after this and have no desire to read any more books by Susan Stoker. I wish her all the best as an author. If I decide and have a curiosity for reading the last 2 books I will go to the library.

This one was cringe worthy. I normally love plus-size female characters. I have never read the word "fat" so many damn times. I am a bigger plus sized woman. I have my insecurities, but damn. This one was terrible.

The best parts of this book was the narration and the epilogue, which was the introduction to the next book. I could listen to Jason Clarke narrate almost anything.

I love when authors write positive books about plus sized women. I felt like this focused more on Finley us weight and insecurities than it did on the issue in which Finley need protect. This book devolved into name calling. The number of times was this woman called fat and or the fat b word was ridiculous.

I felt like when she wasn't being called fat, she and Brock spent all their time in barely controlled passionate situations. I kept wondering if that was supposed to make Finley feel better about her size? They couldn't manage to make it through a date, but they could be intimate (uninterrupted) all over the place.

I didn't know there was anything wrong with being a mechanic. When did that happen? Was that supposed to be Brock's insecurity to go along with Finley's insecurity?

The situation that put Finley in danger was interesting, but I felt like it took up limited space in the book. When the story finally circled back to the danger, I had almost forgotten Finley was in danger. 2.5 stars.

Also, why don't people lock their car doors in most of these suspense/danger/thriller books?

Anyway, I guess I will see what Talon is up to since it does sound interesting.

I enjoyed this one. Like some other reviews I did think the reiterating of her size was a little too often, but it slacked off towards the end.

I really liked Brock and Fin together. I now have even more questions about Khloe, and am ready to know about Heather.

Over all enjoied this and Fin's position in the town, I would have liked a bit more of the other girls and a bit more of the post office gossip team.

I've enjoied this series more than some of Susan's others that are not active millitary so that has been nice.

Narration: Jason Clark and a British accent, wow, and Savannah Peachwood is always good

Great as always!

Being a huge Susan Stoker fan, I was excited for the newest book in the Eagle Point SAR series. I was excited to read Finley and Brock’s book.
The only drawback for me was that they were barely into their relationship when they decided that they get pregnant right away. It’s mostly my personal preference that they actually wait until they know each other longer.
Other than that it was a great read, as always.

Finley started out as curvy. Then big. Then fat. The author constantly brought up her weight. We got it in the first few chapters. Finley is fat. She doesn’t care. Brock loves her as is. No need to throw her weight in our faces every other page. Detracted from the plot. Detracted from her relationships with friends and Brock and his team.

Swoony with a side of danger

I really enjoyed Brock and Finley opposites attract, forced proximity tale of all the things. This is a heartwarming, captivating and steamy romance full of lovable characters with a touch of angst, mystery, and danger. Brock and Finley are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, insecurities and scars, but they are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. Brock is a former customs and border agent who is now an auto mechanic in the small town of Fallsport. He also is a member of Eagles Point Search and Rescue based in town. Finley owns the bakery in town and she is a shy and curvy girl. Brock and Finley have been attracted to each other for a while but neither one acted on it because they both thought it was one sided. Until Finley sprains her wrist and needs help in the bakery and Brock volunteers to help her and the more time they spend together, the deeper their connection becomes. It is beautiful to watch the relationship between Brock and Finley as it grows and deepens organically and they journey toward their HEA. Of course, there are bad people who feel the need to do bad things to Finley for reasons activating the uber protectiveness and fierceness of Brock. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown in sweet moments, strong friendships, steamy times, real life issues, painful pasts, imperfect characters, dangerous situations, and so much love. I am excited to read the Talon’s story next.

I will say I think this is the lowest I've rated a book by this author but this was just not it for me and I'm super sad about that.

I adore the susan Stoker World and have listened to all of her books.
however, there are some series she writes that have little military action and more romance. Eagle Point is such a series. there is a lot of action and suspense in previous novels, and some I couldn't believe the sinister nature that had me holding my breath.
However, Finleys story is the least I have taken to. it's a very day to day thread that rolls out with a wonderful alpha that's gorgeous but fits in nicely to society and a heroine that is definitely a loveable come as you are, all round good person. The flow of their falling in love, for me, was a bit too sugary and a fluffy overload.
The everyday life and daily living that Susan eekes out in this plotline is as natural as I predict it can be.
I enjoy more action and suspense and a bit less of the falling in love and family sweetness. The situation in the hot moment , although hot, was a bit too insta for me.
There is still a crisis to get around, and I enjoyed how Susan put it all together and her evil finale..holy cow!
So if you're a Stoker fan, you'll obviously love this story, but this one is a lighter, feel-good story that has tones of Susan's warm and fuzzys.
Savannah peachwood and Jason Clarke...well, just perfect. I love their narration, and they do these characters awesome justice.

Not that I am not excited for all the couple Susan stoker writes.... but for one that I wanted more than I want the fresh bread in my oven to NOT BE LAST 🥳.

This book delivered!!! I read this book in a couple of hours and that is only because I had to adult and couldn't just read it in one sitting.

The chemistry between Finely and Brock 🤌. The fact that he lets her come into her own and gain that confidence he knows she has before asking her out...swoon worthy. There is nothing better than a couple who support each other through hard times and any insecurities that they might have. When Finley sees something she shouldn't have she doesn't tell anyone. However, those she saw think she is going to run to the cops and tell them everything. The tension of this through the book while Brock and Finley are starting their relationship was well written and I may or may not have yelled at Finley to JUST SAY SOMETHING a couple of times.

One major thing I love about Susan's books are that the characters are relatable, their insecurities are relatable and while they are perfect for each other they are by no means perfect people. Needless to say I am MORE than ready for the next book in the series.

SEARCHING FOR FINLEY (Eagle Point Search & Rescue Book 5) Susan Stokes is the author, and I've liked all the books in this series. After reading Searching for Finley, I can't wait to start the next book and find out about the mysterious woman who is living in the woods! All the books in this series can be read as a standalone.

Finley Norris owned the bakery, The Sweet Tooth on the square downtown in the small town of Fallport. Every morning without fail she heads there to start baking. So many of her faithful customers come in as soon as she opens the door. But this morning there would be no treats because she had fallen the night before and badly sprained her wrist. Her girlfriends had a plan to get her help. They know she has a crush on the town mechanic, Brock Mobley, but Finley had not realized he'd also been crushing on her! He doesn't care at all about all her curves or that some idiots call her fat. They better not say it around him. Her conniving friends sent Brock as her baking partner and doesn't take much for them to connect. Just friends do not come close to how they feel about each other. They move fast in being together. It is very good that Brock gives her love and protection. Quite innocently, Finley saw something that she shouldn't have seen. There're bad people who want to find out just what she had seen, who she had told, and keep her quiet permanently.

Brilliant

Eagle Point Search and rescue team Ethan, Brock, Rocky, Zeke, Talon,Raiden all part of the Fallport community.

Finely Norris is a shy independent business woman and larger than life owns the Sweet Tooth Bakery as everyone in town loved her baked goods. The smell of fresh bread and cinnamon rolls were all the rave in Fallport. As Finely is aware of her size and shape nothing beats the termination and motivation to succeed. Only problem she has a crush on the local mechanic. Finely accidentally finds herself in a sticky situation will she get rescue in time.
Meet Brock Mabrey ex Customs and Border Protection Officer and now co owner of the old Auto Shop in town. His friends are all part of the Eagle Point Search and Rescue team and loved doing his job. He also has his eye on a sweet tooth baker in town. When things start to get hairy his only priority is for Finely.Meet

Another Susan Stoker winner. Searching for Finley dovetails perfectly into the Eagle Point series. Not only do we get Brock and Finley's romance, there's a wedding, a kidnapping and a new mysterious character introduced. We get to visit with our Fallport favorites too. Finley and Brock have b÷n "eying" one another for quite a while when they think no one else notices. They're only fooling themselves. When the perfect opportunity arises, Brock leaps at the chance to get closer to Finley. Convincing her that he wants her just the way she is, is going to take some doing though. Finley came to terms with her plus size a long time ago or so she says. Having Brock in her life is both a blessing and a curse. He's bossy, overprotective and no nonsense but at the same time she feels safe, cherished and accepted. There's only on problem. Someone has targeted her for an unknown reason. Brock and his team pull out all the stops narrowly avoiding a tragedy. There's definitely an HEA for these two in the very near future.

I don't know what it is about this series, but it lacks so much.

I liked Brock for the most part. Finley was okay, but I got sick of all the talk about her being fat. I get it was her insecurity, but after a while it just got old and had me rolling my eyes. I get they knew each other before, but Brock and Finley's relationship progressed fast. Most of it was fine and seemed natural, except how okay he was to potentially get her pregnant.

There was very little action, and when the antagonist actually "attacked," it was over before it even started. Not exciting at all. Susan spent too much time writing about Brock and Finley's relationship, and not enough time on the actual plot itself. I like smut to a certain point, but a smut book with a bad plot, doesn't make an enjoyable read.

A lot of the book was filler and pointless dialogue that I honestly just flipped through. There wasn't anything worth reading.

Again, this series isn't doing it for me, there hasn't been one book I actually like. I'm also surprised this book has such great ratings.

Brock & Finley

These two!! I love that they're finally having their HEA! Brock & Finley have had feelings for one another since the beginning of the series (or pretty close to the beginning). Finley was always super flustered around Brock, and Brock was trying to give her space to be less flustered. This was slow going, until a little injury gave him just the opening he needed...

I love the way these two are with each other! They're sweet as they get to really know each other, and their dates are quite hilarious & entertaining! And once they take the steamy times step, 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Like, they might be the most 🐰🐰🐰 couple Susan's ever written! Lol Lotttts of steamy times!

The suspense portions are INTENSE, too. The Boss, the bad guy, is truly out of their mind! *shudder* Very well played.

And then we have Khloe! And kittens! Tal! The mystery woman! Davis! All the women & weddings & love & ... swoon. I just adore Brock & Finley!!

😍😍😍😍😍
