A real page turner.
I liked this book and enjoyed it enough to read it in a day. The cold case squad, primarily Martina and Hirsch, are working their latest cold case about 18-year-old twin sisters who had disappeared 20 years ago on the same night. To complicate the investigation, they can't let Hirsch's boss know they're investigating because he may be a person of interest in the case. It's even more possible that someone higher up was involved, and Martina and Hirsch could be out of a job if they don't dig up all the evidence they need to solve the murders. I had one minor thing to mention that irritated me; not to get all nit-picky or anything, but when Martina says her mother “eyed me with a little contempt” (because Martina invited friends over to her house, and needed to discuss the case with some of the people there), I began to dislike her mother. What mother does that? (Maybe “exasperation” would have been a better choice of words over “contempt”?) It seemed just a bit judgemental and hypocritical when she was a lousy mother when Martina was young, Martina forgave her, and Mom is now living in Martina's house. Maybe that seems “picky”, but it struck me in a bad way. I've read this whole series, and although, at times, there have been a few things that were a little off-putting, I've enjoyed this series as a whole and will continue reading.
