Eden escaped the Anthros and all the evil that lived within— the Artificials, the Idyllics, and the horrors of the experiments she endured. Leaving the city behind is impossible though. It follows her through the wilderness, haunting her during the weeks that follow.
Beneath the tranquility of the mountains, a secondary threat hides. The Cheyenne Complex houses a colony of humans with a personal vendetta against Idyllics. They’ve used their advanced technology to incapacitate the superior machines before, and they aren’t afraid to do it again to protect their people.
When Poppy, a resident of the Cheyenne Complex who lost her sister to the Anthros four years ago, stumbles upon the unsuspecting Eden, an unlikely alliance is formed. Can two natural enemies work together to protect their most valuable asset from the machines that are closing in?
In this thrilling sequel to Caged, Eden and Poppy will both have to ask themselves just how much they are willing to give up to save those they love the most.
Excellent follow up book following Idyllic Eden and her rescued humans. I really enjoyed reading this, less physical torture more mental anguish for our characters. Some great plot development and a great storyline for book three to come. Whilst book 1 felt kinda hopeless for the humans left in this apocalyptic world, book 2 has a spark of hope. A small spark but a spark nonetheless.
What I superb follow up on Amy’s first novel “Caged” Getting into the mind of Eden is sometimes as scary as it can be emotional. This story is so well put together, that it’s very hard to put the book down (or ereader ;) ). So many questions pop up in my head, impatient to know how this will end ! I can not wait for the third book to come out. Well done Amy and thank you for giving me so many hours of escaping the real world and sucking me into this story !
“My second immersion into the cruel world of Cybernetics, AI’s, Service Machines and Idyllic’s. Now Eighteen-year-old, Eden has some Idyllic modifications herself (becoming Drei) which make her inner battle to protect all who she meets even more of a mental duel. Amy Johnsons creative imagination has produced a real page turner again, in Lost (The Idyllic Series Book Two) published in 2021. The second book in the Idyllic series, read as part of the Sconnie book club and worth every late-night minute. Eden is a brave, selfless, energetic, character (I love her) ripping heads off going into battle, fearless yet, constantly questioning her actions in this second book. Maybe the Idyllic part of her is constantly battling with her human side and bringing her guilty self-blame emotions to the surface? She worries me right through to the end as she questions her existence, now she is lost, partially to the new system inside her. With every action she feels she is bringing further pain and danger to others. I can’t help but feel she will win through even though she seems to be tottering. Her self-questioning carries through to the men in her life and her realization that her love focus has been buried deeper than she is aware. Her self-dialogue is the best! A great way to express so much. Her love for Knox and his betrayal has been a hard lesson for a teenager. His return brings back all the initial emotions, the unwanted sparks, yet more for her to deal with. Now that she is back with Linux, her best friend she sees love in a different light. Especially when he man’s up during the big bloody battle scene. I can’t write anymore I’ll spoil it! Poppy, one of the many new characters who lives in a protective dome, is fascinated to learn more about this first new Idyllic they have captured in five years. Her curiosity is born out of her need to know if Eden/Drei has seen her lost sister. She is a strong character on her own. I’m really looking forward to seeing her evolve. I didn’t like Knox at first, he was too quick to want to dismiss Eden. Then his role is to maintain survival and secrecy so why would he. His role evolves well as … the battle scene shows. I could say I don’t like the battle scenes but that would take away the sheer pain and reality of what each character must go through to survive and protect each other and their human world. This is a professionally written, well thought out story with complexed plots, with just enough detail and ghastly, cruel detailed tortures to create a world of beings only Amy could. It is truly brilliant. I’ve said it before , I’ll have to say it again, I would never have picked up this genre but when it keeps you up to 2.00am in the morning it is a very special book. A fantastic read. Amy is an exceptional writer, incredibly talented. I could not put the book down. For me this is an extraordinarily strong 5 star. Can’t wait to read the conclusion. I can see Amy going a long way as writer. Well Done! Veronica Shaw Amy Johnson’s Book Lost” review 023.
I loved Caged, the first book in the Idyllic series, and when the ARC for Lost became available, I jumped at the opportunity and was lucky to get a copy. This read is a treat for dystopian and young adult fiction. The writing style is beautiful, the characters are strong, but not without flaws, making them relatable and likable. The story is told in the first person and from multiple POVs, which can be challenging, but Johnson does a great job. Eden, Linux, Poppy, and Knox each have distinctive voices, and their chapters help shape and bring clarity to the story. Eden needs to find a safe place for her people while fighting to find herself and navigating her feelings for Knox. The dedication at the beginning of the book "For everyone who feels like they’re constantly battling the two different sides of their personality— human and machine. You’re not alone. " follows each of the characters (Eden, Linux, Poppy, and Knox) into their self-discovery journey. A couple of my favorite quotes from Lost: "Constantly being at war with yourself, fighting for control of your emotions… It doesn’t feel right, but at the same time, isn’t this the epitome of being human?"
"Linux is the best type of book: one you read over and over again in the dark, warm confines of a blanket. You tell all your friends about how great it is, wish you could spend a single day with the main characters, and dream about the world they live in."
Highly recommend and look forward to the next in the series.
Lost by Amy Johnson. The idyllic series book 2. “I can do this, and even if I can’t, I have to.” Eden escaped the Anthros and all the evil that lived within— the Artificials, the Idyllics, and the horrors of the experiments she endured. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Eden and Poopy and Kit. I am loving this series and I hope there is more to come. 5*.
I couldn’t wait for the sequel to Caged and wow, it delivered! Lost is equally mind blowing. I wanted to read it fast to satisfy my need to know, but also slowly as I wanted to savour it and not to end. I loved the addition of the people of the Cheyenne community. They all add something new to the story and I was immediately invested in them. The trust issues between them, bearing in mind Eden is now an Idyllic, are poignant and so well written. The inner struggles that Eden experiences, fighting her new instincts, are real and at times excruciating. And the ending? I need book number three now! Absolutely loving this series.
Wow what a follow up, this is book 2 in the series and doesn’t disappoint. The writing is still descriptive and real, the plot is well planned and the characters have been further developed to add more to them. An excellent read
This was quite different to the first book and felt more like it was just a bridge between books 1 and the action I expect is coming in book three. That said it introduced some great additional characters and developed the characters we knew from the first book. I’m looking forward to see how the series continues.
Book 2 in the series did NOT disappoint! My best way to describe the series is these books are in the genre of dystopian, romance, and full of action. I even felt inspired by the care and love our humankind is capable of showing, a kindness that comes from deep within. If you like books like THE HUNGER GAMES, &/or TV/Movies like THE 100 (Netflix), TERMINATOR, with an easy-to-read, great style, and well-developed characters you'll grow to care for, (even if some have become half 'machine' and want to kill you), these books are for you. I am a fan of the Idyllic series and the writing style of the author and looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommend.
Amy Johnson is a beautifully descriptive writer who has built up an insanely good post-apocalyptic dystopia. This continuation of the series sees higher stakes, more action, and an ending that definitely leaves you wanting more. 5 stars
Caged, the first book in the series had left me wanting more and the second book delivers brilliantly.
On the run after killing Null, Eden and Linux find themselves in unknown world - green, beautiful and savage. Hungry and looking for shelter they stumble upon a secret human colony. Unfortunately for them the artificial's and Eden's nemesis is not far behind.
The most captivating factors in the book are the characters. I love how Eden evolves, changes and struggles with what has been done to her. What she has become. She doesn't know the extent of her abilities and discovers them slowly. Linux on the other hand becomes bold, takes charge and most of all the chemistry between these two characters is amazing!
The new characters are quiet interesting and it takes a lot of talent to develop them so beautifully. Poppy is a lovely understanding medic who is invaluable due to her talents. Echo is the geek and Kit is the muscle and both are adorable in their own ways.
The second thing I thought was great the way the author describes the tech. It's novel, gripping and has been described so well. The writer gives you enough details (but doesn't bore u to death) and leaves the rest to your imagination. I especially like the way the idyllic interpret emotions.
The third thing is the plot. It's so realistic. The world setting, the descriptions, and the environment. In a world that is lost and dominated by machine everyone is expendable. Even a powerful idyllic. Food and resources are scarce and people do anything to survive. And some lives are preferred over others.
All through the book you find yourself on the edge wanting to know what would happen next. You root for the characters, and just when you think you know how it would end, you find out you were wrong!
Amy Johnson’s second book in the Idyllic series surpassed her first. Although the plot hooked me in the first chapter, Amy’s charactorization and conflict of her heroin made me want to continue from chapter to chapter. If you are looking for an emotional experience of our world in the future, this is a must-read. Fans of this genre will keep the pages turning pages until the last punctuation mark.
I enjoyed Book 1 of this story, so I decided to read Book 2, which was equally as good. The story packed a lot of suspense with less violence than the first one, and held my attention to the last word. I found myself rooting for Eden and wondering what would happen to the other characters. Another good read!
Loved this book. It continued on with Eden and Linux trying to find a place to save the Luddites. Poppy is just a girl who is missing her twin will she ever find her again. Maggie or subject 12 thinks she knows where she is it but it is all Deja vu. Read this fast paced book to find out what happens
